My entire experience with Nick and his team was delightful. We bought a new build home in Brentwood, CA and the yard was just a pile of dirt. Nick came by and helped us visualize what the space would look like and his team got started a few days later. They were all very professional and courteous. Everything was done in a timely manner and Nick is very responsive via phone and texts. While looking for landscapers originally I had a hard time with anyone responded so this was very refreshing. Our stamped concrete is breathtaking and the shape of the turf and patio are beautiful and unique, I love that they were able to do soft curves and not just straight lines. They were able to run a drip system for the low maintence plants and attached it to my current sprinkler system. We also created a dog run on one side of the house and Nick was able to install a fence for me to section it off. I'm incredibly happy with our experience and our beautiful yard. ETA: we discovered that some of the plants in the yard were not dog friendly and Nick came out the next morning to remove them and will replace with more appropriate options. read more

We have been in our development for over 3 years now and have had an ongoing positive relationship with Nick @ Goldstar Landscaping. When we first moved in, I had no idea what we wanted for landscaping. Nick was very patient and toured us around several yards in Stonebrae so I could figure out what we wanted. Gold Star Landscaping produces very nice and high value landscaping projects. Nick and his team's cement work is second to none. Nick built our backyard in mid 2015 in which he laid concrete, built a retaining wall, installed artificial turf, installed irrigation, and planted shrubs and trees. As of February 2018, his work is holding up very well. We constantly receive comments on the quality and look of our backyard. People are amazed that the hardscape is formed with stamped concrete. Aside from Nick's work product, he is good guy. He always has a smile and is in good spirits. He also has helped with me various muscle-based tasks, such as helping me unload and move enormous pottery and a pergola kit. We are in San Leandro hills and needed a retaining wall. Nick came out to our home to look at the job and gave us a fair quote and a 3 week timeline. He was not the least expensive but the least expensive is not always the best. We are on a steep up slope and breaking up the old cinder block wall and hauling it away was not an easy task. Although it is hard physical work going up and down all those steps, Nick, Duc, and the other workers made fast work of it and the old wall was taken away and the foundation hole was dug up the first couple of days. They came back a week later and made the concrete forms and installed the rebar. Nick explained exactly what was happening with the project and all the quality materials he w as a using to make the wall as strong as it can be. The 3rd week, the concrete pump and truck came and poured the concrete in just a couple hours, when we came home that evening, the wall was beginning to set. He returned at the end of the 3rd week to finish the drainage behind the wall, backfilled it, cleaned up the area and the project was done. We asked him about additional work later terracing the rest of the back yard so it becomes a usable space. He once again had a few options for us to mull over and gave us a fair price estimate. I recommend Gold Star, Nick, Duc and their crew to any project you may want done, fair price, no hidden costs, accurate timeline, communication during the process and an excellent result. read more

He went over my ideas for backyard landscape improvements including adding a retaining wall and also completing the necessary drainage and graveling for previously installed wood retaining walls. I asked him about adding some other features to the project and he was willing and very reasonable in what he charged for that. Nick listens well to the customer's ideas, and explains how he will accomplish building a long lasting wall. His team was the best. They worked quietly and with a gentle focus on not disturbing any plantings that were in place nearby. They did a great job. Clean up was complete, always appreciated. I called on and spoke to Nick on a Tuesday. Told him what I was looking to do and we made an appointment to meet on Saturday for an estimate. I texted him the address as he requested and asked for a confirmation, which he responded and confirmed that we are still meeting. Unfortunately on the day of the appointment, he was a no show. I texted him and asked if we were still meeting but I never heard from him. I didn't hear from him on Sunday, which understandable since it is Sunday, and I was hoping he would call on Monday (better late than never, right?) but never responded. I had my fence replaced and while doing that, the company we used ended up breaking two sprinkler pipes. I needed to get these fixed asap since it was a huge waste of water while watering the grass. Gold Star came out quickly and got the job done. In addition to the two pipes that we needed fixed, he also fixed two sprinklers that were broken. They were fast and did great work. I now need sod installed and will more than likely come back to them to have it done once I get other quotes. read more

I had gotten a couple different landscape designs and many bids...the designs didn't have plants that I liked and the bids all came in over 6 figures...more than I could or wanted to spend. After a Nextdoor review, I called Nick. We went over the designs, and one cost savings was to do stamped concrete instead of tile. Nick did everything possible to take the basic plans and tweak them to come in at my budget. He made great recommendations - like putting a gate in where I wouldn't have thought to put one and lighting placement was wonderful and a joyful surprise. He has quite an eye for the aesthetic, and works hard for his clients. I had wanted a certain pattern for the concrete (at the last minute), and he went out special the night before to get it, ensuring a really beautiful patio. He quoted 8 weeks, it was done in 8 weeks. His team works hard (even if the weather is over 100'! or if there's a lot of rock and heavy pots and tons of bark to move around.) They work for your delight. Highly recommend! read more

After a week of trying to contact Nick, the owner, and told him I'm filing a complain at the licensing of what they did.. Nick finally called me and wanted to continue the project . Sorry I'm done with you people...Nick, Dan, and Andy are the people who came to our house to do our front yard and backyard project. They will do things their way without even letting us know what they're doing.. we have plan on what we wanted to do prior to signing the contract, Nick agreed. But they will do things that they didn't communicate with us and they just decided to do it. Multiple times we already discussed these and we had argument about these. There's so many problems with the work they've done in our front yard and backyard that other contractors, who came to our house to continue the mess they started, questioning if they're really license people and know what they're doing...It will be a very long story to put it here, but the fact that we're filing a complain at the licensing and go to court with them if needed.
