I had heard good things about the products and service from Golden 1 Credit Union when I lived in Sacramento. I already an account with one of the major banks in town but when I recently came into some money I thought of opening an account at Golden 1 Credit Union. I entered the branch in downtown Davis and no more than a minute later was given a friendly greeting by Martha Gutierrez who quickly escorted me to her desk. I told her I was interested in opening a checking and possibly a savings account. She patiently and thoroughly explained the different account options available and answered my questions as well. After making my choice, she quickly and efficiently gathered the necessary information from me and helped me complete and sign the forms to create and open my new account. The entire experience was very pleasant! Martha couldn't have been nicer to work with and I was finished and on my way in under an hour. Before leaving, she made sure to answer any questions I might have and encouraged me to call if I thought of something later. Overall, it was a positive experience and I will recommend Golden 1 Credit Union and Ms. Martha Gutierrez to others. read more

This bank used to be good, but they have fallen. I had $307 dollars taken out of my bank account for a smoke shop. I have never walked into a smoke shop before. After they reviewed it, they said that the card I have in my hand was present at the smoke shop and so I owe the money. I have been with them for over 8 years with a balance over $10,000 at all times. If your card is ever stolen, don't expect to get your money back. read more

Man don't know how I brought everything that would be needed to open a checking account and got denied every time and had to get new items and as soon as I bring everything I still get denied at this point I had my ssn, lease, and my id and nothing still and then once I did have those I had to get a parent involved Im a 20 year old man that needs a parent signature to open a checking and savings account along with proof that they live at the Same address at me?? (the teller also asked me if I lived with my parents) ended up wasting a whole afternoon. Went to yolo federal and set up my appointment right after that and then the next day opened my account in less then 25 minutes. Don't wast your time unless you a kings fan. read more

I have an existing savings account with Golden 1 and went in to open up a checking account. After standing at the teller window for 20 minutes, (despite there being empty desks all over the office), I was told that since my existing savings account is a joint account, and I intended to open an individual checking, I would need to submit a whole new application and the teller would not be able to do that. The teller offered me an appointment in a week, which I declined. I already have an account, on which I am the primary account holder - just because it is joint does not make me a whole new customer to this FI. I am so puzzled by this. The bright side is that this experience made me realize that I do not want to do any additional business with G1, so at least that happened before I had another account to deal with. read more

This review is for this Golden 1 branch. Staff are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, location is clean and neat. There are several ATMs located outside the building as well. I would prefer if they had better hours, 10am-opening makes any in-person banking needs fairly difficult if you work full time. Location is not very accessible, there is a rickety old elevator in the front of the building (not a part of this branch, just the main building elevator). There are multiple flights of stairs and very limited parking. read more

I have accounts with commercial banks and had an account at a Credit Union in Petaluma. My credit score is fair, however, this all does not come in to play as I wanted to open an account with them and not ask for a loan. So keep in mind I was giving them my money and yet they would not open an account for me stating the chex.com system had negative things about me. I called chex.com people and got a copy of my report and checked with them there were no negative things for my profile. I went twice to their branch in Davis to open an account and twice they refused without any proper explanation as to why. I am suspecting they are being biased because the color of my skin. read more

I have never had so many problems, IN JUST two visits. First of all, it takes forever to get to the teller, the staff is amazingly slow. Second, there is no consistency between staff. You can do something with one teller and then see another teller that says you can not. I believe consistency is the most important thing for a business, especially in a bank. Honestly, you're better off just going to the ATM's outside then speaking to staff. Creating my accounts was good, that was the easiest part actually but that's pretty much it. read more

Golden one is no longer a credit union for their members. It seems they're more concerned about having their logo on Arenas, then serving their members. If you go to any other branches, they are so understaffed that you will spend your entire lunch hour trying to withdraw money from your account. They need to hire more people or reopen some of the branches they have closed. The wait time in line is ridiculous. I waited over 30 minutes to withdraw my money and the only reason I was able to complete my transaction is because the six people in front of me got tired of waiting and left. Very disappointing a local Credit Union no longer values the members time and opinions. Golden one is more like the DMV than a local credit union here to serve their members. read more

A month ago I sent an email to the manager (she gave me her card and invited the email regarding obtaining a Medallion Signature Guarantee) I never received a response. This morning I called the Davis branch and left a message asking for a call back so that I could schedule an appointment for the signature paperwork. It took over 6 hours before I received a call back. In the meantime I went to the Woodland office because they answered the phone immediately and said that I could come in right away. Parking is also a challenge at the Davis office. read more

Golden 1 has really gone down hill with service and reliability. After charging more for children accounts in ways of fees, giving incorrect account information , and loosing a large check for deposit and making it the customers responsibility to locate it, we are migrating to another banking service for our personal and business accounts. read more

I've been to the Golden 1 Downtown Davis branch many, many times. It is part of a co-opt branch with my primary bank account and as such has always been super helpful with all of my banking needs even if they aren't actually through golden 1. That said, partially due to these awesome experiences. I've opened up 2 separate Golden 1 accounts for other purposes. Each time, I've opened them in person at this branch. The process has gone smoothly and unproblematic both times with two different associates at Golden 1. The lines can be somewhat long at certain times of day, but I think this is pretty typical at banks during rush hour times, and I don't think it's necessarily the fault of the bank. read more

Of course, not all the bank tellers are the same and I have had my share of inpersonal visits, but that's to be expected. Sometimes there is a wait, sometimes there isn't. It just depends. One time, I remember waiting over 20 minutes for a simple transaction because the bank was understaffed. When I first got into college, I opened a Student Visa at this branch. The process was simple: a paycheck stub, proof of enrollment, and identification documents. I was quickly approved for $500 and until this day, I have received substantial credit limit increases due to responsible use. The customer service representatives go up and beyond, which makes this credit union a definite keeper. I rarely go to Golden 1 Credit Union because I have direct deposit and use their mobile app on my iPhone for check deposits. But on the occasions I do go, the parking for this location is never congested, which makes it perfect for quick visits. read more

This Branch is the worst. Why is there 1 Bank Teller while 4 people are in line. I see 2 other Bank Reps in there cubicles who can help with deposits or other transactions. The guy behind me is already yawning loudly........and I am growing cob webs. Gee, just in time for Halloween. I live in Davis, but I usually frequent the Golden 1 Branch in Vacaville where they assign 3-4 Bank Reps to get the line and the members IN AND OUT. So much for giving this Branch a second chance......the other thing that is annoying: -AGRESSIVE SOLICITING FROM THE TELLER TO APPLY FOR NEW LOANS OR LOWERING YOUR RATE. read more

I brought in a small amount of change, neatly rolled to exchange for bills. (I've had an account with Golden 1 for over a decade.) To begin with, the teller informed me that he had to ask if exchanging coins for bills was permitted. Place was empty. And I waited a good while for him to get an answer. Next, the teller, let's call him Garrett.... asked if it was all there. I let him know it's not polite to second guess your customer, at least not for $30. He responded that he had been "gipped" before, that everyone does it more or less. I invited him to count it. Is this supposed to be such a big deal?? Losing my patience. I asked him what Golden 1's policy on providing bills for change was. He replied that USUALLY there is a cash machine that does the job at the branch, but it's not working right now. I asked if there was a fee. He then asked if I had more or less that $500 in my account. What is the purpose of this question I thought? "why?" I asked. the reply: "There's a fee if you have less than $500". There's a nicer way of telling that to a customer. I've had an account with Golden 1 for almost a decade. I've had my wife, parents and friends consider and make the switch to Golden 1. Golden 1 is a great credit union, it really is. It's just sad that condescending rude behavior can make you forget all about that. I demand better customer experience. For the time being I'll avoid the Davis branch like a plague. read more

How on earth does this place get any good reviews? I have to go for business reasons about 3-4 times a week. Every time there is a long line with tellers who are SO SLOW! Also, I agree with the previous reviewer that stayed the tellers had a lack if customer service. I once had to wait 10 minutes for a teller to get and count $80 worth of 5's!!!! She counted them a total of 5 times! By the last time, she laughed and said " I'll just count them one more time." I said please don't, but she did it anyways! It was torture! I would advise anyone in the Davis area to set up an account elsewhere. read more

People do not do business with this bank. I got couple hundred negative because I lost my job in the beginning of covid 19. This bank decided to close my account even after I talk to them about this issue. I had same problem with chase but they helped me and kept the account open. Now i paid amount I owed they still won't fix my problem. Credit UNION my ass. read more

Literally the worst bank I've ever dealt with. I had to argue with them to even open an account, which I feel silly about now, and then they made it difficult to even deposit money with them. They once destroyed a nearly $30k check I tried to deposit at an atm and just sent me a photocopy of it with a note saying that it should be "just as good" as the original. I dont think I once ever got help by calling support without having to speak to a manager. Or two. There are way way way better banks. And I hate to say that because I hate dealing with big banks but geez, G1 gives small banks a bad name. The staff at this location are nice enough, but they arent much help with the bigger problems going on here. read more

Been banking with them for years and never had issues until recently. I got my new debit card in the mail (old one was expired) and the card had incorrect last name. I have been married for 3 years and everything has been changed on my account 3 years ago. I call customer service was told it was a glitch, information was put in correct and I'd get a new card in 5-7 days. I did, however it was the same issue, wrong last name again. I went to the Davis branch to get info and a new card with the correct information. The girl who helped me was very nice, she called to see if they could issue a new card with the same number and name changed and was told yes with manager approval. She asked her manager (who's desk was right next to hers) to approve it, and the manager girl said nope, can't do that. She explained what she had been told over the phone and the manager refused. So I said fine I'll take a different number on the card. She went to a different manager and was able to get me a card with the same number then had me try it at the atm. It didn't work and said no accounts were found. At this point I had already spent an hour there and didn't have time to deal with it anymore since I was on my lunch break from work. So I ended up leaving with no debit card. It's been 2 weeks that I've been without being able to use my debit card which is pretty rediculous. I'm switching banks because of this. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

This credit union is generally non-responsive, slow, antiquated with their systems and processes, and holds your money longer. I am trying to get the last of my account closed and that is like pulling teeth. I do not recommend them. read more

I opened an account and two weeks later when I tried to deposit my monthly paycheck they held ALL of the funds for 9 days because it was a new account. Obviously this nearly ruined my life as I'm sure it would most people's if they had to wait 9 days after the start of the month to get their monthly income... thanks for screwing me over Golden one... On the plus side I feel like the people who work there are nice enough and when I went to the bank to say like "hey give me something here I'm dying" they were able to release a third of my check. Good thing my landlord is a reasonable person otherwise I could be out of an apartment... It's not like my check was from a hole in the wall restaurant, it was from a longstanding government entity. Read the fine print people. And get your checks cashed elsewhere for the first 30'days. read more

I belong to a Credit Union elsewhere, but Golden 1 is a member of the CU Network, which is basically thousands of CU's across the country. Since we are on the same network, I can do just about anything I need to do in any network member location. Since moving to Davis, this is where I have been doing my banking for the last few months. The location is easy to get to and just off downtown, so there isn't too much traffic. There is plenty of parking within 1 block of the location which is on the corner lot of a small office building. I've rarely had to wait more than a few minutes to be helped by someone, they have ATM's outside and I have always been treated nicely and professionally. That said, if you don't know much about CU's...well they typically offer better rates on loans, checking, lower fees in general and if you belong to one that is a member of the CU network, you can have access to thousands all over the US...pay no ATM fees as long as you use one of those member CU's...I mean really, you can't beat it. read more

Three ATMs outside. One down at street level is quick to access when walking downtown. Lines can go slow inside but the tellers are nice and if you need to meet with a bank employee for account stuff they are very helpful. If you have an account, you can use the coin counting machine for free. read more

Went into this branch at 5:30 to open a savings account for my son as I am a member of this credit union. I signed in waiting for a banker, there were about 6 tellers and 2 bankers, 2 customers and myself waiting there was a wait time of about 8 minutes, I didn't mind the wait. The woman who "helped" (blonde short hair, bad attitude and fake smile) had me wait 10 minutes while she had a full conversation with a customer on her way to "ask" if she could even help me. The costumer service at this location is poor. I've never been treated so bad and made felt so insignificant by anyone. I've gone to different branches from Roseville to Vacaville, South Sacramento, in which I've received the best service at the south Sacramento location. If no stars were possible for this location that would be my rating, perhaps the new hires should be trained at a different location and maybe then I would give this branch another try. This was by far the worst experience at a member owned bank I've ever had. read more

I've only been to the ATM, so I cannot comment on the service inside the branch. There is very limited parking near the bank, so it can make it difficult to run up to the ATM if you are driving. This location is downtown Davis, so beware of bicylists when you are looking for parkng. read more

There was a teller that refused to open an account for me because she misunderstood that I needed a checking account for a school club...we are donating our fundraising money to charity, but she literally accused me of possibly taking money from the club by opening this account...she sent me to a drop in appointment with a different staff member who opened my account because she actually listened to what I was saying.
