Well, I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat, so I decided to walk into Golden Chick for a quick bite. I was looking for the $6.00 Golden Deal that they routinely offer. When I walked in, everyone was sitting down just as they would at home. I walked over to the counter, and eventually, everyone jumped up and returned to the preparation area. Instead of getting a meal and an iced tea like I normally do, I just got the tea and left.Later, two men pulled up beside me and asked if I knew these people. I didn't know what that had to do with anything, but I responded, No. One person then got out of the vehicle and walked over to the door, complaining that they forgot the gravy--even though he had never ordered anything. I can't leave 0 stars. After a twenty minute wait in the line and finally being able to order, I then had another 15 minute wait to get food that was not hot or fresh. The wait and no apology on them taking so long. That doesn't cover the food: Ordered the 8 piece roasted chicken it was just thrown and stuffed in a small box, a family mashed potatoes that were disgusting and watery, and a family fried okra that had obviously been sitting for quite sometime. This is the second bad experience at this golden chick and I can say that I won't go back. I have been to other golden chicks and have always been happy. They always mess up our orders when we get it to go. When you go throw the drive thru it seems like no one is there to wait on you. Then when you try to contact them on the phone no answer an automated message comes on " The person you are trying to call is not in service." I wanted a piece of fried chicken last night (9/6) around 9:00pm. I went into the restaurant to order. All I wanted was a wing and a biscuit. After standing for over 5 minimum at the counter and watching 5 people behind ignore the front I should have left. For some reason I didn't. My mistake. Someone finally came to the register to take my order. I asked for 2 wings and a biscuit. She yelled back and asked if there were 2 wings. Someone yelled "No, only 1". I said I'll take it. With an hour of business still left I couldn't figure out why they were short on chicken. I got my order and the biscuit was good. The wing was dry and leathery. How did I guess that was going to happen? Hmmm... I saw where there was an option to do an online survey with your receipt. You guessed it! I wasn't given a receipt. I asked for one and was told it was "too late". Wow! And you guessed it again... I'll never visit this place again. What a waste. read more

Today was the opening day for Golden Chick in Brownwood. We showed up at 7 PM and there were at least ten cars waiting for the drive-thru and the parking lot was packed! There's quite a bit of competition with Chicken Express and Jerry's Fried Chicken here. Golden Chick's prices were a bit lower than the rest, so that's always a good start! The wife and I are from Austin and we used to hit Golden Chick almost daily for a few rolls and sweet tea after work. We didn't smell rolls baking here but luckily they had some! We got the 16 piece family meal with mashed potatoes, fried okra, and an extra dozen rolls because the 4 that come with the meal are never enough! I also ordered 4 of our tenders "spicy." We almost drove away when the wife noticed we were missing our okra. I would think there'd be a little more attention paid to detail on the first day. Employees at both windows confirmed our order before handing us food. Had to wait a few more minutes for okra. Once we got home we were disappointed to find we only got a half-full container of mashed potatoes. The spicy chicken was mixed with the non-spicy chicken which made it all spicy. It's just a salty cayenne and chili powder mix that's sprinkled on and the kids had a hard time eating it even with a little spice dust. FYI this stuff is called "Lotta Zing!" Overall it seemed more well prepared than the other chicken places in town. They've also got roast chicken which we've never seen before, and we can't wait to try it. Did I mention the rolls? We love the rolls. Some of them were a little squished, but they're still AWESOME. We drove home with rolls in our mouths chanting "nom nom nom nom" between bites. We usually get tons of sweet tea from Golden Chick too but the cheaper chicken apparently meant higher drink costs. A large was over $2 and we're used to 90 cents for a Golden Chick tea. Y'all should sell GALLONS of tea for $2.50 and take over the world. read more

OK, Ive given this place as many chances as Im willing to give it. I go there because its convenient but no more. First of all its dirty. The floors are gross, the tables are never bussed, chairs are sticky, entry doors are gross. No masks on the staff & Covid is rampant in our little town. I was the only one there but had to wait 15 minutes for tenders/fries, then the fries were not fresh. Is there a manager on site? If so he/she isnt paying attention. Goodbye, Golden Chick. read more

I've waited several weeks to hear from the Store Owner after calling Monica ( store manager ) twice and she telling me she passed the message along but no one ever calling me back. That's the reason this property goes from a best to an absolute worst review. First, I admit the food is good. Plus, they have some really good specials like the 1/2 price chicken on Monday's. But after witnessing a black employee call a customer fat a$$ mf ( sounded out) I won't be back for their food. I am glad someone at least occasionally moves that employee from the DT window but can just imagine how desperate they must be for help to keep an employee that vulgar and disrespectful to a customer employed. I'm very disappointed that this Golden Chick sells all that fried food and doesn't care enough to call a customer back when a message of this type of behavior has been received. First I want to say that I was skeptical about going to this place because of a previous experience I had at a different location. The food was flat out amazing. The fried chicken and macaroni were full of flavor and fresh most importantly without the taste of oil overwhelming the flavors. The price was fair and the ice cream is free. I have always liked Golden Chick BUT this was my 1st time at the Brownwood store, we are just visiting the area and the grand kids wanted chicken. We ordered the tenders and chicken dinner box thing, we waited for our order a tad too long for my taste. Spent $54 get back home and the chicken was awful! The tenders were ok but the chicken was just this side of burnt and tasted like it was cooked in old oil. The green beans were so salty I couldn't eat them, I like salt but this was beyond salty! The sweet tea was pure sugar! It has been a long time since I have visited Golden Chick and I certainly will not be back to the Brownwood store! read more

Love the chicken tenders, and my roommate loves the chicken salad sandwich. I eat here a lot, and my belly is proof! The meals are high calorie like most fast food joints are, so be ready to adjust your other daily meals. The tenders are real chicken breast meat, not pressed chicken parts like so many others. The people are very friendly. The other two reviews were both close to the opening day, and as with most new businesses, they tend to adjust and become better with time. I don't use the drive thru much, but I think it has vastly improved since they opened. Oh, and the rolls are phenomenal. read more

I went in to pick up a to go order for my wife. The order was missing the potatos. Ok, nobody's perfect if it does not happen on a regular basis. But the service was extremely slow. While waiting on my called in to go order, a customer in the place came up to the counter and showed a piece of metal wire he found in his chicken. I told my wife to check her food very carefully. I LOVE GOLDEN CHICK! The employees are always kind, and I can never get enough of their chicken tenders along with the gravy and a little or a lot of zing! Seasoning. It's my favorite place to eat without any doubt. I also really enjoy the fries and rolls, the selection of drinks, everything about it is so good. I could eat it every day. Sometimes there are coupons available which saves me money and other times there is a sale on the four piece tender meal which is what I get every time, very convenient to say the least! I constantly ask my girlfriend to come to Golden Chick with me and when she's in the mood for it or sometimes not, we go and have a great meal regardless! Forget the rest because Golden Chick is the best! They have other great items like fish and their sides like Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes are great as well, and especially the corn nuggets.
