I stopped at this McAlister's on the way home from Lubbock to Austin. If you've been to one McAlister's, you've been to most. I got my order to go, and they were pretty quick getting my New Yorker out to me. The bathroom was clean, and the restaurant was quite big. Everyone seemed nice inside as well. The last time we were here was probably over a year ago and we decided we wouldn't come back. Unfortunately, a good friend who is on temporary diet restrictions wanted to go, so we did. The dill pickle lemonade was surprisingly good! But... The reason we stopped coming was the shockingly minimal amount of meat on the sandwiches, and the high prices for meat that can't even cover the bread. It hasn't changed, I can't believe they are still in business, this is the same reason we stopped going to (the now closed) Schlotsky's). The amount of ham on those sandwiches seem to be ok, but... I order a 1/2 and 1/2 with a garlic steak and a "bbq" honey pork. The tiny slivers of meat that were there were not appealing at all, they were both the same odd color of grey, and again, couldn't even cover the bread. The flavor (like the meat) was almost non existent. I couldn't even tell which was which... I literally used about six napkins throughout the course of 2 sandwich halves?? What was leaking out? It wasn't water? As I longingly gazed out the window at Chick Fil A I lamented the loss of $35 for sandwiches and drinks for 2 people. So long McAllisters, you blew it for good this time. read more

This is a nice choice for a variety of sandwiches, soups & HUGE baked potatoes with your choice of fillings. The potatoes are definitely a filling meal by themselves. Drink options are a nice variety too! My favorite sandwich is probably the roast beef with melty cheese & Ajou for dipping! Orders are placed at the service window. Then I'll be outside the restaurant is typical of all McAlister's. It's clean it's comfortable. There is a lot of service at McAllister's, so not a lot to say there since you order your food up at the counter and then they just bring it out to you. The food at this McAlister's was almost in edible. Had a not been hungry I wouldn't have, which is not typical. Garry waited on my family and I- he was very helpful, friendly, professional, and made my sister and I feel like our business was important to this restaurant. Store was clean and the food was awesome. We had already finished with lunch before I did this survey otherwise I would have added pictures. The salad was fresh and good. The Italian sandwich was one of the best I've had in a long time.

Three different menu items and I haven't acquired the taste for this place. I like the idea that it's new and popular but just hasn't worked out for me. First visit: I tried the Rueben. For the price you'd expect a decent size sandwich, Right? Right! I called my order in for lunch and let them know I wouldn't be by for another hour. Was told it wouldn't be made until close to that time. When I received my sandwich it was skimpy and was warm. Even the sauerkraut and sauce were warm. My guess is they made it about the time I called and held it for almost an hour. Besides that it tasted funny. Coleslaw tasted funny too. And later that evening between 9pm and 10pm got really sick. 2nd Visit: I dined in and ordered THE BIG NASTY. The roast beef was really dry and did't seem the cheese went with the gravy. Imagine 1/2 pound dried out low quality deli meat. At least it lived up to it's name it's definitely BIG AND NASTY. YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! 3rd Visit. Later in the evening after having the Horseradish Roast Beef and potato salad my spouse felt nauseous and got sick. Definitely won't be going back to this McAlister's. This is the cleanest most friendly Mc Alister's that I have ever been to. The service is great, the servers are pleasant and friendly. A lot of chains seem to surface clean, even the gunk that is usually on the corners on the floors is not there. This restaurant (and several other McAlister Delis) was owned by Southwest Deli group, but sold to Sun Holdings in July. They have NOT paid their invoices for services that were provided to them. The store manager in Brownwood said he is sorry that there is nothing he can do. A while back a gentleman contacted me and said we would get paid in two weeks. It has been over four months, and it is clear they would rather cheat a vendor out of money and switch services then pay the money they owe for services they received by a vendor they used since day one. Take your hunger and money to an honest restaurant that doesn't cheat people out of money. read more

I enjoy McAlister's in any location. I go to this one the most. Ordering at the drive thru is not a great idea, just order ahead. The food is good and the staff has always been friendly. Four stars because the last two trips there were more than a couple dirty tables. Always love the Jalapeño Turkey Crunch! read more

Ok, it's been awhile since I've eaten at McAlister's, so I was looking forward to the sandwiches Mrs. Arlen picked up and brought home this evening. However, once I opened the package, I was a little surprised at what I saw. I was supposed to see a New Yorker, filled to the brim with lots of meaty goodness.....However, what I got, was a sad little sandwich, that only contained about one-third of an inch of meat in thickness, almost no cheese and about three times the mustard it should have had. Their menu claims it has 10oz of meat, but I think their scale must have been set to grams this evening. While, I've semi-grudgingly paid the rather steep price for this sandwich in the past, I always thought the amount of meat it contained, made it worth the cost.....but not this time. The sandwich I got was something I would have thought was only worth around two bucks....and that's if I was being generous about it. Oh well.....maybe they were just having an off night at McAlister's or the meat was being rationed. However, next time I pay a small fortune for a sandwich from there, I hope it will be something that doesn't cause me to have to go to my kitchen afterwards to make a tuna sandwich to fill the void in my tummy left by the previous sandwich from McAlister's.....At least the pickle was still the same size. read more

It's not as well as other Mcalisters around Texas. The southwest chicken grilled was missing guacamole and I asked for Lettuce and tomato but they seem to grill them which made them wilted and soggy. They just slapped it together and it showed. Then potatoes was already browning and not fresh as it should be. Unfortunately we just went to go eat at Humphrey Pete's after we left here. I'll probably go back but I will have to pick more carefully on what to get. read more

I'm so thankful to have a McAlister's in Brownwood! The BEST tea, fast service, and DELICIOUS food.

The only reason this place is getting a 2 is because the food is kinda meh and good on some days. First off, my mom and I stood at the counter waiting for someone to come talk to us for a while. That wouldn't bother us if it was busy, but there was only one other customer in the dining room. Not to mention the other servers were on their phones, or looking at each other as if to say, "You do it, i'm not doing it." When we FINALLY got someone to talk to us, it was a girl who wasn't too thrilled to be there. She had a piss poor attitude towards us, didn't smile, and when we asked a few questions she seemed annoyed that we didn't just order and move on. She very clearly didn't want to talk to us; I don't know if she was on her way out the door or was about to go on her break. When we got our food, it was an "alright day" for food. Which means one of the cooks actually does his job in the kitchen when we got to eat there. But when we tried to talk to staff again, they either ignored us or gave us an attitude. Whoever manages, I know you MIGHT think you are doing your best. However, if your staff are that miserable or you are putting people who clearly don't like showing hospitality up front, you need to seriously re-evaluate your staffing or your own practices. I will only eat the food again if I feel like I have to, but I am avoiding this place as much as I can. read more

First, time I went there I order a baked potato. When I get my order it is still raw in the middle. How do you mess up a baked potato. I return it asking it to be remade. I waited 20 minutes before I go to the counter and ask what is taking so long. Was a bad experience. I decide to give the place a second chance. I go with a friend and we ordered to go. The woman who took my order was standing around telling jokes to her co-workers distracting them. I heard the manager caller her name several times and say, "don't act like I can't see you, you need to get back to work." She redirected her several other times but it never fixed the problem. The wait for the food was unreasonable long, especially since my friend and I were the only two customers in the building at the time. When, I get home, first thing we find out is the nacho basket is really just chips and a small container or queso, not nachos at all. Just call it chips and queso. Worst of all we find my friends sandwich is missing. If having to drive all the way back wasn't annoying enough, being a 10 plus minute drive each way, they didn't even take the time to remake the sandwich. It was already cold and the melted cheese congealed. I asked the manager, "what time does the head manager worked, so I could have a word with her about her employee's blatant playing around instead of focusing on what seem to be her only job besides standing around joking." The manager straight up lied to me. I called the next day at the time she said the head manager would be there, but the same manager answers the call from the night before. I ask to speak to the head manager. The woman responds, she'll be in after lunch. I tell her, "you told me she would be at work for lunch. Can you give me an exact time she works." She responds, "11 a.m." Which is 10 minutes from the time I called. So I tell her, "OK, I'll call back then". Her response was, "well if she isn't late." I asked, "is she usually late and how long." I got no response other than "emmmm, well." I said thank you and hung up. I called back at 11:15 thinking that was plenty of time if someone was reasonable late. I asked again to speak to the head manager. I received the same lady as before on the phone. This time her response was, "Oh shes not working today. Give me your phone number and I will have her call you back when she does." At this point annoyed is not a strong enough word to describe my frustration. I replied, "I will not give her my phone number, I will go up there and talk to the head manager in person, since you are giving me the run around. When does she works next?" This lady wouldn't give me a straight answer, just said, "I don't know." The whole ordeal is becoming not worth my time. The manager is clearly trying to shield her employee for some reason, by feeding me false information. I will give it one more try to contact the head manager, but I will never eat at this place again. read more
