Chicken Maduros with Rice
Rafik C.

The Golden Chicken in Holbrook plaza where Mama's used to be. Came here for take out. Nice ambience. Fast service. Good portions. I had a couple chickens with rice and Maduro (sweet banana). Authentic Peruvian style cooking. Everything was excellent. I will definitely come back here with my wife for a sit down dinner.

Pollo a la brasa, "avo" salad (more salad than avocado), mixto chaufa ans aji verde (odd mint green color but tastes ok)

We ordered delivery from here while visiting my MIL. The food took a long time to arrive; we received a message from the driver when they were close, that the restaurant forgot to give them part of our order, so they had to return to the restaurant to retrieve it. Aside from that, everything was pretty decent. We were worried the food would be cold but thankfully, it was not. We love Peruvian food so ofc we went with the pollo a la brasa. They have combos that care paired with different sides. We had their combo #3 - whole chicken, avo salad and French fries. We also ordered a side of salsa criolla (onion salad) and some chaufa with chicken and beef (mixto). The chicken is the same that I'm used to. The meat fell off the bone and was juicy. The chaufa we ordered was huge. It was enough to feed all four of us. I took some back for my son, who was not with us. The fries were ok - nothing special. The avocado salad was more salad than avocado. It was basically a house salad with a quarter avo thinly sliced on top. They sent plenty of aji verde so we definitely did not need to order an additional large side of it. The color was a little off-putting. It was bright green like mint green ice cream. I've never seen it that color and I couldn't get past it. It tasted like other sauces I've had from other Peruvian spots but definitely not the best. The color was really odd. All in all, the food was good. We love Peruvian because there's not a lot of opportunity to have "bad stuff" added to the food. It closely resembles food I grew up eating at home, and make for my family. A meat, starch and veggie...can't really go wrong with that. I'd prefer this type of not-so-fast food, than a burger. Its nice to know they are near my MIL's home so we have a decent go-to from which to order when visiting.

Acabo de salir de este restaurante. El restaurante estaba vacío, y aún la mesera se demoró 10minutos. Cuando llega a la mesa dice que van a querer , sin saludar. Nada. la mesera fue muy grosera y tiene un actitud no agradable. No me sentí bienvenido. Sentí como si la estuviera molestando. Y pues la comida era mediocre. El leche de tigre si estaba rico. Pero no creo regresar por la atención de la mesera. Y cuando ya me dio cuenta le cobra un servicio de 18%.

I am a fan of this place. Their lunch specials are totally worth it. It seems to be almost a regular sized dish + comes with a soup. I will say i've had better Peruvian food on LI, but for what it's worth in our area, there's not a ton of selection. This place has good flavors and portions, but has a little more fluff of carbs than the actual dish itself. Also, the beef is always overcooked to infinity - but that seems to be a trend at any Peruvian place i've been to. TIP: Ask for an additional green sauce with your food. One usually comes with it, but in a tiny container. Need more of that goodness! Overall - good flavors and will continue to patron. PLEASE give more than one small Green sauce. It's nowhere near enough for the portion of food.

Whole chicken

This is our first time here and while it is a bit of drive from where we are, it was so worth it. We ordered combo #2 which came with whole chicken, avocado salad, sweet plaintains and instead of french fries, they exchanged it for white rice. This came out to $24 + tax. First off, the chicken is amazingly moist and not burnt at all in any way. While they don't serve yellow rice, I do have to say their white rice is cooked to perfection. Not too mushy and just great texture. Can't say that for all the rices out there. The maduros had a lot of flavor and wasn't too oily. We ordered from this place with tepid expectation but glad it wholeheartedly surpassed it. Will definitely order from this place again for sure.

Combo meals are great for family portions

Best Peruvian food in Suffolk Period ! Don't even waste your time going anywhere else. I'm a sucker for good Peruvian food and this was better than we expected. I went to another place before this I found on Yelp and the place didn't look like someplace I wanted to eat from lol let's just say that. I looked up A few more spots and saw this location was t far from where I was. When I walked in the food smelled heavenly, My take out order was taken quickly and I water less than 10 mins for a large family combo number 2. I usually spend wayyy more when ordering Peruvian take out but this was more food for less money. When I finally got the food home my family devoured every morsel and wanted more the next day ! Yes it's that good trust me !

Jalea and chicken combo

For the value, this is not a bad place but compared to the city's Peruvian chicken places, it falls short on flavor and quality. We ordered one of the combos that included whole chicken, avocado salad, plantains, and French fries for around $25. Pretty great deal. The avocado salad and plantains were great, but French fries weren't as crispy but maybe it would have been fresher as soon as it came out of the fryer. The disappointment was the chicken. The skin didn't have enough flavor and was a bit dry. A nearby place called caribeno has much better chicken, although not Peruvian.

Great authentic peruvian food, the best i've had in suffolk county! Used to work at the meat farms close by-and Golden Chicken 2 was always a great, filling, hearty meal for lunch. I like it so much that even though I don't have that same job anymore, I'll still drive about 20 minutes from my house to grab it for lunch or dinner.

First time eating in this location. I was impressed with the food selections and, more importantly, impressed with the taste of the food. This location seems a gem inside a small shopping plaza in Holbrook off of Main Street. The location does offer some seating inside, but I decided to order out. The chicken was perfect, and I had rice with meat and chicken. Good flavors and great taste. I would highly recommend trying this establishment. It's a hidden gem.

We arrived about 6pm and were lucky enough to score a two seat table. It was almost filled to capacity with lots of diners enjoying their meals. With great Latin music playing and laid back vibe, I was looking forward to a great meal. John our server was polite and efficient. We started off with traditional Peruvian golden lager, Cusquena. Crisp and delicious! Two ceviche appetizers and two steak entrees. We're ceviche lovers and throughly enjoyed those dishes. The Honey enjoyed his Lomo Saltado. The traditional Peruvian stir fry dish. Strips of beef sirloin, red peppers, onions and tomatoes. Served with French fries and white rice. My Tacu Tacu Steak with rice and beans was a hit, and miss. The steak was tough and the rice and beans, really "starchy". It's hard to explain they tasted heavy and sticky. The portions are generous so I had leftovers for home. Surprisingly, the dish tasted better the next day. The menu highlights their Happy Hour and Wine Down Wednesdays. We're looking forward to returning for one or both :) of those! For some warm vibes, good service and fresh food this place is worth a visit. Thank me later.....

On top of that, when the food arrived, they got our order wrong. My sister and I both asked for a chicken wing, but they gave my sister a chicken breast. Without knowing, my sister took a singular bite. After she realized, we called the waiter over to replace it. However, the waiter said she could not, which did not make sense because it wasn't our fault and she only took one bite. Even worse, she found a hair in her food. But the cherry on top was that there was no sound on the tv that the world cup was on. It sucks because the food was really good. Safe to say we aren't coming back anytime soon.
