We had dinner at Golden Corral located at 2136 Lawrenceville Hwy in Decatur, GA Health Score 93 = A on 10/20/24 Which is Excellent for a Buffet Restaurant. The ambience is extremely noisy with a ton of people moving about the restaurant and serving themselves at the buffet. We selected Golden Corral because our family can choose from so many different options, from salads, fruit, soups, chicken, fish, steak, roast beef, multiple vegetables, rice, Mac and Cheese and a full dessert bar with multiple pastries and ice cream. Eating here for dinner just makes it's easier to satisfy everyone tastebuds. Anthony, the only male sever assisted us with seating and cleaning off our table. He was Outstanding and provided complete service with a very positive and playful attitude when it came to refilling our beverages and removing any plates we had compiled. Very much appreciated. I'd definitely recommend this location to my family and friends for breakfast and dinner. It was Anthony's OUTSTANDING customer service for me. This might genuinely be the worst food I've ever had. I have no idea why it's always so packed because the food is honestly terrible. The service was okay, but the restaurant smelled bad and felt extremely cramped. Most of the food looked unappetizing and tasted bland, with only a few items that were actually decent. Happened to be in the neighborhood and a friend wanted to take me to dinner. Very busy on a Saturday afternoon around 5 P.M. They had all the steamed vegetables, meats, steak and Bourbon Chicken, wings and fish that I like. I really prefer this type of buffets because you can choose what you want, and take just a little bit of everything. Loved the salads too and Broccoli and Cheese Soup was great. I have loved Golden Corral for 20 years or more. The one we have in California is also very good. This one was very good and very clean. For the price, there is a lot of variety. Thank goodness, we found some freshly cooked broccoli!! The green beans look out of a can,mushy. The fried chicken and the turkey are always very good. The desserts are excellent. It's not the Bacchanal of Caesars Palace, but it doesn't cost $100 per person for a very satisfying meal. Great job of consistency! read more

Golden Corral is a decent place to go when you are hungry. In case you don't know, Golden Corral is an all you can eat restaurant. First the good stuff. Lots of choices on the buffet. My favorites were the chicken and dumplings, pizza (especially when it is fresh), and wonderful chocolate covered pineapple chunks for desert. Salad bar was good too. See my pics. Surprisingly good chili here, and topped it with onions and cheese from the salad bar. Good service from a busy crew. Friendly servers. Nothing was bad, but most vegetables on the steam table were overcooked. Soup was too salty. Fried chicken had too much breading. Hamburgers were so-so. Super crowded. Pro tip: Sit in the back behind the desserts as not so crowded here. Seemed a little downtrodden compared to other Golden Corrals. If Golden Corral was rated on a price/performance curve, that is how much value do you get? Then the rating would be 4 stars. Lots of free parking here. Who knew that the best fried chicken and dinner rolls were under the same roof? Location and Parking This location is next to the (almost defunct) Northlake mall. Parking is free. Venue and Atmosphere Lines are long if you go at peak meal times, but they keep it moving. The buffet is kept clean and tables are quickly wiped down to make room for the next party. Service As good as you would expect for a packed house on a Sunday night. Our drinks were refilled quickly and our server was nice. Food and Beverages Can I get a little commotion for the fried chicken? That's what I was here for, and a fresh pan hit the buffet right after I collected a clean plate. The dinner rolls were right next to the pan so it was perfect. The salad bar was well stocked and had plenty of options. The cabbage was also surprisingly good and the broccoli cheddar soup, while not Panera, wasn't bad either. We came here for lunch at the beginning of August. Free parking was easy to get because the restaurant wasn't crowded. Prices are good for this AYCE. Our server (the one who refilled our glasses, gave us clean plates and took away our dirty plates) was very good, and came to our table periodically to see if we needed anything. The restaurant was clean, and stayed that way during the entire time we were there. The servers kept up with taking used plates away and cleaning tables soon after customers left. This restaurant can certainly seat a lot of customers at the same time, and there is a dining room that can be used by really large groups to give them a little private area of their own. I liked that everything that I helped myself to in the salad section was presentable, clean and fresh, and all veggies, toppings and other salad items were available - nothing was empty. On this visit, I had fried chicken, fried chicken livers, green beans, mashed potatoes and a salad. All of these were good, and the fried chicken wasn't greasy. I also had popcorn shrimp, pot roast, and the peach cobbler. Out of these things, the pot roast was good and had a great flavor. The popcorn shrimp lacked flavor, and the peach cobbler was too wet/slimy for me. R and I used the available disposable gloves to wear on my serving hand, but the overwhelmingly majority of customers did not use them. This is a good location to eat at. read more

So this place is very diverse in fifteenth nationalities and I greatly appreciate that but very few spoke English or had a hard time understanding what we needed. A solid 4 I had a small taste of the clam chowder and cheese broccoli soups. Good. 3 Next I had the fried shrimp. Fried okra. And hushpuppies. The shrimp had a bit of an odd taste to it. All a little mushy I suspect they were all frozen Another 2 Dinner rolls. Save your room for these. Fresh baked and the sweet butter they use is amazing. 5+++++ Dessert. Amazing. Despite the 2.5 star average rating here, my love and I decided to stop in to this Golden Corral today, since we were in the area. It was super busy for Saturday night dinner service, but we still managed to find parking and were seated promptly. Inside was pretty hectic; it was pretty loud and crowded - very high energy. However, the crew did a great job of refilling everything for the most part (at least everything that mattered to us). I didn't really care for the Northern beans (I think that's what it was), and the hush puppies were very overcooked. However, everything else was great. If you're looking for a more mellow, laid-back, not so busy location, then I recommend the Duluth GC. However, this Decatur GC did a much better job of seasoning all the food - especially the chicken and dumplings and white gravy. I actually enjoyed those items from them this time. The rolls and fried chicken is consistently good at every GC from what I've seen, as well as the salad, soup, and dessert bars. The marshmallows on the mashed sweet potatoes were perfect too - soft yet just a little crispy. Aside from the great food today, we also had excellent service from our waitress Denise. She was super sweet, attentive, and helpful. I think the highlight of my evening though was getting to overhear a live gospel choir who was singing "Happy Birthday" and other songs for a private party right next to our table. They were awesome! They almost brought me to tears. They're The Victorious Army choir - if you haven't heard of them you can look them up on YouTube. Granted my mom wanted to eat there and I was opposed at first and then I was like that was actual delicious. I mean since it's the southern version of this restaurant the food was actually really good. My fave was the mash potatoes because they were hand mashed with butter. My husband & I come to Golden Corral every weekend as a cheap date. Specifically, for the steak! We usually go to the Marietta location, but this time we were closer to Decatur, so we came to that one. I was so disappointed in the food. Alot of the of it was burnt, including the steak. At 11:30 I noticed there wasn't any steak being cooked & was told they wouldn't have any more out until 4. So you have steak at breakfast, but not at lunch? I find that suspicious. The Marietta location always has steak at lunch. I asked to speak to the manager about the quality of the food & she didn't speak good English nor did she take my complaint seriously. She just stared at me blankly and said I'll let the cashier know and walked away. Outside of that, the location is dated, the dishes are dirty. I had go through several plates to find a single clean one. The floors are dirty & the furniture is worn and scratched. If you eat at this location use the plastic utensils! I had an experience that exceeded my expectations. First of all, restaurant was very clean and servers were available and helpful. The food choices were abundant and well prepared. The price is great for the food options and I think the sweet potato bake, burger, and fried chicken were the best bang for your buck items. Of course I am rating this higher because of nostalgia, but regardless I still think for 12 dollars it is pretty worth it considering you can try out different fast food items altogether. We have been eating at Golden Corral North DeKalb about once or twice a month on Sunday for several years. The cons: It is always very crowded and very loud. There are always out of control children screaming and running. The steak chef is only manning his grill half the time - the rest of the time he is just gone and you cannot get steak. Sometimes he is talking to his chica and you just stand there waiting for him to finish. The manager needs to do something about this guy. Finally, the cinnamon rolls which are divine ran out early last week. Pros: The food is tasty. The steak is rare if you like it. The fried chicken is the best. The cheesecake is awesome. The cinnamon rolls are heavenly. Although it is not fancy and there is mayhem with people who just paid running into those walking to get food - the design of the restaurant is bad and it is just VERY, VERY LOUD!!! I went to this location on a Monday evening. It was pretty busy for a weekday evening. I've been to Golden Corral locations before, but this one was a little different. Usually there is a drink server that would fill the drink order upon entering the line. With this particular location, you get your own cups and drinks upon entering. The buffet was huge, with plenty of items to choose from. The food was delicious, with the exception of the hard rice, and the restaurant was clean. Our server was friendly, and attentive. I normally go here because my mom likes it here. I always eat steak and mashed potatoes which are pretty good. I also love the gravy on the mashed potatoes. And the yeast bread is to die for!! However, the guy who always cooks the steak always has an attitude, is slow as I don't know what, and does not know the difference between medium rare and medium well. They need to do a better job of not having people wait 20+ mins for steak on a weekend. Overall, it's decent and service is pretty good. Next time I will try dessert...I never do. read more

Me and mom did a throw back and went to Golden Corral. The salad bar seemed fresh and was fully stocked. I made the best salad! I always get fried chicken and it did not disappoint. The rolls were fresh and sweet. The tea was very southern lol. Super sweet. I wish there were more topping for the baked potato bar. My mom enjoyed the fried okra, fried fish and seafood salad. She got dessert too which she raves about. Only one real complaint was that there were a lot of dirty tables when we walked in which was a little of a turn off but we found a clean section and sat. Let me be honest and say this is a review written by an easily annoyed 26 week pregnant woman who hasn't been feeling 100% lately. Food was fine. Experience was the most annoying thing I've endured in a while. I had to work too hard for this dinner I paid $15 for. It was crowded. They had the best selection right up around where the gentleman was carving steak. There is always a heavy crowd of folks waiting for steak. Steak is good. I get it.. but I pretty much paid $15 for mostly nachos cause a) I felt lightheaded after standing and waiting 5 minutes for steak the one time, and b) the people waiting are so damn aggressive about their spot in line they'll give you an eat shit look for "pardon me, I'd just like to get to the beans please." I was shoved and bumped into by at least a half dozen different unattended children. I was shoved and bumped into by full grown adults who just stared at me like my fat, pregnant ass just trying to walk by was the biggest inconvenience they've ever experienced as well. Food temperature on many hot items was very bad to where it changed the taste. I asked the employee at the steakhouse to put the smoke brisket back on the grill because it was so cold. They're not doing a great job at cleaning their dishes nor are they doing a good job with keeping their steam tables cleaned. If you get food poison here, it'll be obvious where it came from. There's plenty of parking and it's free. Lots of places to sit and eat. Don't be fooled by the "all you can eat". The quality isn't there. Prices are way too high for what you get. You'll come out better going to a full service restaurant. If you prefer all you can eat, I would go with a full service restaurant who offers "all you can eat" on certain days.
