I spent part of the afternoon at Virtua Willingboro Hospital being inspected by modern medicine like a suspicious suitcase at the airport. By the time they let me go, it was after two o clock and I was hungry enough to consider eating the clipboard having been required to fast since the night prior. Instead, I drove over to Golden Dawn Diner, an old Route 130 diner that proudly runs on solar power and seems determined to keep the great New Jersey diner civilization shambling onward at least another few decades. The parking lot looked a little lonely when I pulled in. Not dead exactly, just resting its eyes. Inside were a handful of regulars who had the settled look of people who know which waitress works Tuesdays and which booth wobbles. My kind of crowd. The waitress appeared almost before I sat down. I did not need the menu. Two scrambled eggs, home fries, white toast, scrapple, coffee. Scrapple, for the uninitiated, is what happens when Pennsylvania Dutch thrift and ingenuity collides with breakfast meat and nobody asks too many questions afterward. It is made from pork "scraps," cornmeal and existential resignation. Fried correctly, it is uniquely magnificent. Mine was magnificent. Thin slices, crisp around the edges, soft and moist in the middle, clearly worked on a grill by somebody who respected the material. The eggs were right, the home fries actually tasted of potatoes, and the coffee arrived hot and kept returning as faithfully as a Labrador retriever. The food came out with astonishing speed, which under the circumstances may have saved me from gnawing on the booth. Eighteen bucks including tip. If in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. We have been coming to the Golden And Dawn diner for close to 20 years and recently, we met a Lovely young lady named Idil, pronounced Adele! Not the singer but an Amazing server and so Kind and friendly!! She reminds me of when my Grandparents had several restaurants as I grew up in New Jersey. Idil makes you feel immediately at ease and very welcomed. Her service is always consistent and great. Many servers are great, But no one is charming and really builds that relationship where You WANT to come back as soon as possible!! We also Love Aleeka!! She's amazing, too. We Love these Ladies and their service is Great! The place is always spotless and well cared for and Clean! It reminds my family of when diners were Diners in NJ. Very few are left and Thank God for Golden Dawn Diner and Idil !! We look forward to returning and enjoying our meals with her. We stopped on our way home from Columbus Flea Market--our first visit. Early Sunday afternoon was busy with the after-church crowd but we were seated immediately. Full menu available, although most people were getting breakfast. We did the same. Everything was perfect, including over-easy eggs and home fries with onion and pepper option were so good! A side of sausage brought 4 links--more than other diner's 2 links. Order of scrapple was two thick slices--again, more than the expected single slice at other places. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Even the restrooms made us happy with regular faucets instead of sometimes-frustrating motion-activated water. They also had paper towels--especially useful for cleaning up syrup-sticky hands! At a table near us, a rather persnickety customer had very specific (and unusual) requirements for cooking her steak. The server got the assistance of another server to make sure they fully understood the instructions--the servers were very gracious and respectful. We had a wonderful visit today, I've been coming here since I was a kid and it has the same nostalgic feeling when you walk into the door. It has a cozy and comfortable feeling to it and is the perfect place to come and eat. I decided to have the French toast and my mom got the waffles we asked for a side of fruit and it was perfectly portioned and delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and made our experience one not to forget. Amazing service! We will definitely be back in the future! Taking the older family members in my life down memory lane, to a diner and Burlington New Jersey where they lived in the 30s. they had a great time and so did I. Golden Dawn diner is a real New Jersey diner! The decor is updated however it's still the standard diner style seating and bakery area. We loved it. Since my initial visit I have been back twice to try various meals and I'd liked them all so did the family. Please make sure to ask for the rolls as they are complementary however you must ask. Oh boy you will be glad you did! They are too kind one has a light cheese filling the other has a light cinnamon filling I prefer the cheese but either one will work. I love liver and onions a diner is one of the few places I can get it. They do a really good job with the liver and onions, burgers and the fries are awesome I generally don't like bigger fries but these are pretty good. My cousin who likes meatloaf was happy. We're been going here for years, and lately it's gone downhill. The only thing that's gone up is the prices. I had the Mediterranean Scampi the option of linguine or rice, and I ended up with mushy rice. I assumed I was getting linguini and it was my fault for not specifying, but the waitress never asked. She was pleasant, maybe too much. The bread was stale. I got a to-go breakfast burger (burnt $13.99?) for my daughter, and was charged for the tater tots that, according to the menu, were included. Quite busy in the middle of Sunday, this Golden Dawn Diner in Burlington, NJ, is an institution in this part of South Central Jersey. It has been slinging hash for more than 50 years, specializing in breakfast, brunch and lunch, but with plenty of choices for dinner, too. Prices have gone higher with inflation pressure, but it is still on the lower end of cost as everything rises under the same economic realities. I was there for a morning meal, and quickly ordered their Veggie Lover's Omelette, Hash Browns, Rye Toast and Coffee. The three egger was loaded with onion, green pepper, broccoli, snow pea, mushroom and tomato, with my ask for added feta cheese accepted with a smile from my amazingly attentive server. It was very good, with more variety of ingredients than usual. The potatoes were also a large score, with enough crisply browned surfaces to make me happy. The rye was buttered, yet remained crunchified to the end. The Java was was institutional Bunnomatic, but refilled so often I almost felt compelled to drink more just to keep my server feeling appreciated. She was very good, dropping off fresh napkins with each visit and making sure the requested glass of milk for the coffee was also replenished. To my knowledge, there are three Golden Dawns in this region; in Hamilton, NJ and Levittown, PA, as well as this one. They are all good, and this may be the oldest in the clan, while Hamilton, the newest. So Golden Dawn Diner seemed to be a great option. Since I started my day early 7am the spot was not too busy. The service was very nice and courteous. Told me what they were most known for and French Toast came up again! Yummy! So I made my choice, 2 French Toasts, 3 scrambled eggs with cheese and some bacon. The plate came out in a timely fashion and oh boy, it looked soooo good! She had advised me that the toast were big so 2 actually did it for me. The food was really good. It's an enjoyable diner. Entry is spacious & has a sweet sky light. This place just needs some oldies music playing in the joint. I wish they oldies music. Just hearing neighbors talking about Ft Meyers Florida. So that is my only request! Pac-Man Video game was in the vestibule . Wow! Nostalgic sweetness. The front staff is uneducated and not welcoming to those with disabilities!!! I wished to dine here for my mothers birthday and had my service dog with me. A male employee stopped before I had fully entered the diner and said my service animal was not welcome without an identification. There is NO REGISTRATION or ID for service animals in the U.S and when I mentioned this he stated it was policy. I have dined here before with no issue surrounding my animal. Those who rely on a legitimate service animal should know they are not welcome if they don't provide a FAKE IDENTIFICATION CARD and will be refused service. read more

The last time I ate here the food was very good... The prices were a bit higher than other diners in the area... One of my favorites here was the snapper soup... It was the best snapper soup I had in a long time... If they still make it, I suggest you give it try... I also enjoyed the meatloaf that they prepared here... Went here for Sunday brunch. Live near here for the past 3 years and always wondered what the food tasted like here being Im from North Jersey and there's nothing but great diners there. The inside is deceptively large and spacious relative to what it looks from outside. My wife and I stood for several minutes until someone finally greeted and seated us. I ordered French toast with home fries and two eggs which came to about $10.00. The French toast was just okay. Looks like some homemade potato bread which was lightly dipped in egg. There wasn't much cinnamon on the French toast but the waitress was able to bring out an extra cup of cinnamon. The home fries were very bland along with the egg. The syrup supplied comes in packets which I personally thing mirrors an air of being cheap. Outside it being cold and thick, it just didn't make anything better. My wife ordered a chicken Caesar wrap with steak fries which came to about $13.00. The meal itself was not worth close to it. The wrap was small and there was so much more lettuce than anything. The fries that accompanied the wrap tasted like grease. I'm a pretty easy person to satisfy however in this case everything aside from the French toast which was only mediocre was subpar. Additionally, our waitress forgot my wife's Long Island iced tea (which by the way was the very first thing she verbalized she wanted to order to the waitress) however because the food was bad, by the time the waitress came back the last time to see if we needed anything else, we were just happy to grab the check instead of reminding of the forgotten drink. Lastly, cashing out at the cash register took 5 minutes as the cashier kept pulling the card out from the reader too quickly. It took her 3 separate attempts, I have to double my bank account to make sure she didn't make duplicate charges even though she promised she had not. I love this place! I'm so lucky it happens to be pretty close to my home. NJ has more diners than any other state, but not all of them are good. This place is. Their snapper soup is just like the old Bookbinders, and the only one I have found in the area that I like. The food is always good, the portions are generous, and usually, the service is great. I wish they could add a few things like Matzoh ball soup and Crab Bisque. I look forward to when they can return to the fuller menu like before the pandemic, including a seriously chocolate cake and eclairs. Their fish dinner specials with things like Bassa are always wonderful! I'm also partial to their eggs benedict. And I REALLY appreciate that the chef doesn't ruin my scrapple by deep frying it. He'll put it dry on the grill as I ask, and it comes out crispy and perfect! Management is Greek, and for whatever reason, the Greeks seem to really know how to run a great diner. The place is clean and well maintained with a huge solar field and free wifi, has good air circulation, plenty of parking including an easy to use handicapped ramp, a large vestibule where you can wait to meet friends or try to win a stuffed animal for the kids. They added a liquor license a few years ago, and some large TV's for the sports fans. During the pandemic, they were smart and made outside tents so we didn't have lose them like we lost the Sage diner on Rt 73. We still mourn the loss of the old Harvest Diner with their great bread baskets and welcoming spanikopita, which was also great. If you are looking for a classic diner that will make you feel like you had hoped it would, go no further. read more

Across the street from me, we hit this place all the time. They offer a customer rewards card ($10 off of every $100 you spend) which is awesome. I would put them in the top 5 NJ Diners. Their daily lunch and dinner specials are always good. I LOVE their stuffed Chicken Marsala, chicken croquettes, and Arugula Salad with grilled chicken breast. Fudge Layer cake is AWESOME for dessert, get it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The offer a full bar inside, so if you're in the mood for a drink or two, it's always a plus. My biggest gripe with the Golden Dawn is the breakfast. It's good, don't get me wrong, but their prices for breakfast are WAY TOO HIGH! We will go and get two dinner specials that come with soup, salad, drink, and dessert for a $32 bill. We will come for, have two egg, cheese, and breakfast meat sandwiches, 2 coffees, and spend $22...CRAZY! If I'm spending that much I'll hold off for a $10 lunch special, more food and more justifiable to me. So skip breakfast here and come for the lunch and dinner specials! read more

I was craving a diner breakfast this morning and my hubby suggested this place. I am so glad he did. After downing a rockin chocolate milk in record time, I ordered a Greek omelet (with feta, spinach, and tomatoes), home fries (well-done, thanks), and a bagel with cream cheese. Matt ordered the breakfast quesadilla. Both came out hot and fresh. My omelet was delicious- fluffy and the perfect ratio of egg to filling. The potatoes were cooked as ordered (this rarely happens) and didn't have salt or pepper on them. I consider this a positive point because there is salt and pepper on the table- I can season them just the way I want them. Matts food was also delicious. The wait staff was fast and friendly but not overbearing. The check was brought promptly. Fun fact- This diner is run by solar power. There are large solar panels behind the restaurant. Even if the power is out nearby for whatever reason, they'll still be open. And green. Love this. A native Jersey girl, I love a good diner. Decent little diner that still gives HUGE portions of food. I ordered a garden omelette (lots of cheese, if you're into that) and you can tell it's plentiful! I had fruit instead of potatoes, but I saw someone else have home fries and it looks heavenly. Maybe I'm just cravings carbs? My husband also got an omelette, but without cheese because he's a hater. He did ended up with cheese in his omelette by accident (I bet the cook forgot because it's not usual that people dislike cheese... maybe), but that was an easy fix thanks to the waiter and cook. Our breakfast was fine,portions generous and server was excellent. The shock came with the bill!!! Our breakfast was 2 eggs side of meat and omelette with meat, juice For one and coffee for one. Bill was $36.00 + 20% tip . Unfortunately we will not return. Very disappointed. We want to support local businesses.We understand the rise in cost and businesses need to make a profit but this was over the top. A glass of juice for $4 is outrageous! I have to say I am absolutely delighted by my experience at golden dawn diner. My friend stopped by my work just before closing and we haven't seen each other in a while so we decided we would go out for dinner. We couldn't really decide on a place and the diner is only a few buildings down from my work so it was a convenient choice. Let me tell you, We made the right decision. We were seated right away and it only seemed moderately busy at the time we were there. The hostess was very pleasant. When it comes to looks it is a typical diner. But there's nothing wrong with that! They had a very extensive menu with lots of wonderful choices at affordable prices. It can also be noted that they have alcohol as well, though we did not choose to partake. The waitress came over right away and took our drink order. Now since my friend and I had a lot of catching up to do it took us quite a while to order. The waitress was not only friendly, but very personable, kind, patient and understanding. She stopped in a check on us periodically as we chatted. We went ahead and ordered some soups. I got the snapper soup which was pretty good. My friend got the French onion and it honestly looked like the most picturesque bowl of soup you can imagine. They do not skimp on that delicious melted cheese. We finally ordered our meals, my friend got a pasta special and I went with my favorite choice a bagel with lox and all the Fixin's. The food arrived very quickly. The portion was extremely generous of the lox. Nice thick bagel and Philadelphia cream cheese. Came with cucumbers lettuce tomatoes the whole works. I loved every bite. My friend quite enjoyed her pasta, no leftovers! I have been going to diners my entire life and I have also dined at some of the most expensive restaurants in all corners of the world. I am not exaggerating when I say that the service that we received was to be compared with the best. The cashier was extremely pleasant and just as personable as the waitress that served us. It is easy to see that the people here enjoy their jobs. I work in the community that this diner is located in and I think they're an absolute asset.
