Unfortunately, one of my guys can't make it so I reach out to the captain to see if he'd be comfortable rescheduling. Being mindful that current times are tough, I was incredibly grateful that the captain was okay with this. Please remember that you can't always control how good the fishing is or if there's enough people on the boat for a trip, but you can practice great customer service and professionalism. Captain Lenny put us on the fish and kept us on the fish all day long. First drop was for Bonito, and we killed it. Next drop was blue fish, and it was all you wanted. Last drop was a combo of both. Cast, reel, FISH ON! All day. Fantastic crew too, Anthony and Ron were right there to help whenever you needed them, and Scott keeps the whole boat running smoothly. Can't wait to go back out. Best party boat I've been on in the east. Always a very helpful crew, and the people on board tend to know what they're doing.

This was my first time on a trip to the canyons on this boat. The crew was cool for the most part. I didn't like when the one buy sprayed fish guts on everybody as a joke though.. Not cool.. We also didn't know how the boat pulled up on the pots. No worries though all in all I had a good time and I'd go back. Just make sure you get there early so you can get a good spot on the boat to sit and fish from. read more

I fish often. Including party boats. Maybe 15 times a year and I've been on a lot of different boats. I have a good idea of what boats to avoid. Anyway, I don't shy away from the GE. The boat itself is okay. Definitely not the best or worst. Fast enough and big enough to get it done. Captain is experienced and doesn't hesitate to use some gas to get on the fish. Current mates are okay. Some boats have mates that jump on every problem immediately. They're not that quick but definitely capable. And a nice bunch. The complaints I see here aren't legitimate. Captain moves too much...It's expensive...We didn't catch fish...etc. Its fishing. And not even day is a banner day. read more

Went on a 18hr fishing trip with 4 friends, and it cost a couple of hundred each. No big deal. We caught all Sea bass (16) and a lot of Porgies. I only kept big Porgies and threw all small ones back. Each person keeps all the fish they catch in their personal cooler. When you sleep coming back to the Marina, the crew who we all tipped very well, is supposed to clean and gut all of the fish. THEY KEPT ALL OF OUR SEA BASS!!!!! REALLY?? I know because I didn't want them filleted and they're are no Sea Bass in my cooler and all small Porgies. Where is our fish? It happened to all of us? We are so upset, try to support local NJ businesses and fisherman..........and we each tipped the crew $60 to gut the fish and help. The crew was fishing while we were fishing which is fine but we had to wait longer for them to help us. They keep all of the Sea Bass and replace it with Porgies bc they sell the Sea Bass when they get back.........ultimately, all our good Sea Bass is missing out of our coolers? I have been fishing on party boats for 40 years and went out for the first time on this boat. It will be my last time. They nickel and dime you for things other boats provide for free. The mates were kids, they were good kids but in above their heads working on a crowded party boat. They are also expensive. 10/25/19. Had pre paid for 2 people got to the dock at 7am. And were told they were full. But on board we will find you a spot on the rail. Needless to say there was no spots and we could not fish. I was maybe able to get my line in the water 10 times. There was a lot of hype on the stripers There were only 2 caught. They did not offer any comp or my money back. If there are prepaid customers the captain should have held those spots until 730. This was the worst day of fishing in the 45years I've been fishing. Don't know if we will come back . read more

We had a great experience on this boat. The staff was great and super helpful. However, there are some things that really ended up being a bummer. Early in the day was bluefish fishing and we got several and paid $2 for a burlap sack to put them in. We were not told that leaving the fish out of ice would make them mushy and result in them having to be tossed at the end of the day (yes, it's our first time). We even had a cooler, we just didn't know, which made it even more frustrating when the bluefish were wasted when filet time came. Sharing this little bit of information would have been SO helpful. Another thing that concerned me was the lack of concern for spent fishing line. Lures had to swapped from bluefish to sea bass and any extra fishing line was strewn about and later washed off into the ocean. Unless they were using biodegradable fishing line, it takes 600 years for fishing line to degrade. We have a micro plastics issue- it's needlessly harmful. Also, i know it's still fairly common, but coffee was served in styrofoam cups. It felt really strange being in the ocean and being so savagely environmentally unfriendly. I also felt bad for just throwing the fish into the sack and letting them slowly die- apparently ice/ cold water is a humane way and again, we were not made aware. Before we get started, this is my first ever review - so it's pretty serious. I went on a fishing trip on August 16, 2015. I was with 6 other gentlemen and we chose this boat off a recommendation. The boat read "Stripers and Blues" and thats what we expected. We went to fish and the captain drove us 90 minutes away to a location with 4 other boats and the only fish that was being pulled out the water was mackerel. He refused to change location, we sat in the same location the entire day. Heres what kills me - he wrote on his website that it was a good day fishing for blues and mackerels, only 3-4 people caught bluefish. If I wanted to fish for mackerels I would have taken a boat out for mackerels. He lied on the entire fishing report and I based my selection on his fishing report. I will be making the same review on Yelp, this is unbelievable. Quite frankly, even the men who caught a few fish were disappointed because they tricked us and had us fishing Mackerels, unbelievable. read more

I've been on this boat a couple times..... once a couple years ago, and once yesterday. Each time no fish by literally anyone on the boat. That's great and all, bad days happen. When you read that other boats are pulling in stripers left and right, makes you wonder whether the crew on this ship actually knows what they are doing. Captain not only kept going in circles, but positioned the boat to where all the lines were being drawn towards the stern of the boat, causing many tie-ups with other lines. Also had us dropping lines only for 5 minutes and picking them back up. With lines being tangled on almost every drop, made it nearly impossible to keep my line in the water long enough to even attempt getting a bite With that said, I will not be going on this boat ever again. We love this boat. Went out yesterday and caught 20 sea bass- had to throw a bunch back in, but the ones we took home were oh so delish! If you think your going fishing - think again. I drove from Brooklyn NY this past Saturday for a day a stripper fishing with my son. I arrived at the boat at 6:30 AM for a 7:30 departure. Only to be told at 7:15 the boat was not going out because they did not have enough people. What a bunch of crap - other boats I have been on ask you to make reservations on line and call the night before if they are not going out. The Golden Eagle does not. So I expected them to go out if they had 2 people or 70 people. The Golden Eagle needs to understand they are in a service business - They offered us nothing as compensation for treating myself and my son like second class customers - they just don't care about customers only their bottom line. This was a huge disappointment. It was my birthday and 8 of us got together for an afternoon of fishing. When I called to make the reservation I was told to arrive by 4:15pm. When we started to board the boat I noticed that it seemed to be a little crowded. We were handed blue tickets and welcomed aboard. After standing in line for 20 minutes filling out paperwork because we bought our tickets on Groupon we finally were able to go look for rods. As we began to circle the boat we quickly realized that we most likely would not be able to be fishing together because there were so many people on the boat that finding even two unclaimed fishing rods next to each other was a joke! We ended up at the back of the boat where one of the crew guys was cutting up the bait. We convinced a few people to slide down so that we could be together. I finally had to ask a crew member for 3 more poles which he promptly got for us. The boat finally starts to move and we get about 2 miles away from the dock and the boat stops and the captain says, "Ok drop your lines". WHAT ?? Keep going! We're in the river not the ocean! And this is where we stayed! For 4 hours the boat turned in a circle - maybe the captain thought he was confusing the fish!. One of my friends spoke to the captain and he was told that other fishing vessels that had gone out earlier had alerted our captain that the seas were "too rough". WHAT !?!? Why not tell us as we are boarding that we will be fishing in the river and not going out onto the ocean?? Not a single person caught a fish. I was talking to one of the crew members who told me that they had reservations for 50 people but an additional 20 people boarded the boat! Why would they let that many people on the boat? It was so crowded and lines were constantly getting crossed. For the 20 minutes that I did drop my line I got hooked 3 times with other people's lines on the boat. It was a disaster. None of us fished for the last 3 hours - we sat upstairs, bored and pissed. This was a complete and utter disappointment and we spent a lot of money to sit on a boat in the RIVER ! The crew members were very nice and helpful but in all honesty there wasn't a whole lot for them to do, other than untangle lines, because no one was catching anything. I WANT A REFUND !! read more

We went down, jumped on the boat, and soon after we could not get off any longer the mates told us they have not caught any fish in days. There was a boat next to them going for black fish which would have been better. I think honesty would have brought me back to them at some time as I do like to go on boats to fish. Downgrading to 3 stars - have been on this boat 5 or 6 times since my original review. Fishing the Jersey shore has been difficult since Hurricane Sandy, so I feel for people who have to make a living this way --- but I would've liked to see more effort to find fish when the fishing is bad. Thought I read this past weekend that they'd try for stripers and if no action would go for cod. That did not happen. Moved a few times in the same general vicinity when no one on the crowded boat even had a bite. Bad days fishing happen--- it's not the captains fault, but not trying harder to locate them is. ============================================================== Went last Saturday with two friends - two of us got a striper. Was not the best day for stripers, but the captain was not afraid to spend fuel looking for them (I think he must have lost money on fuel trying to insure everyone caught a striper. )Most of the boat had a striper by the end of the day, and a number of folks limited out. Had a great day. There is no reservation need to get on, and the rods and baits are extra that you have to pay. Me and my friends and most people on the boat caught large blues. We had a good day. There were many bait pods and Dauphins. The only thing thatis uncomfortable is the long trip looking for fish. Feels like more than half of the whole time were wondering in the water. Mates were right on the calls fixing tangles and help with the large catch. Over all great ship, busy mates, big fish, will visit again. read more

Today was the worst bluefish trip I ever went on maybe 50 fish on the whole boat that's terrible

After my last experience it would be the last on this boat unfortunately (catching 2lb Macks wit 4/0 reels) I used to love going fishing on this boat seems the new capt. Has the go out catch whatever and stay at one spot to save fuel past capt used to find the hot spots and seek out the big ones I was very disappointed cause I fished this boat countless times when I was younger & caught a lot of big fish... Good thing is I found a real captain in point pleasant (Gambler) and I can't wait till my next trip; guess it's hard to find real fisherman captains nowadays... I highly recommend watching what they bring in before you hop on this boat I wished I had better review cause I did like this boat for the full night fishing... read more

I have fished on The Golden Eagle at least five times over the years. The mates aren't usually very customer friendly but they get the job done. I have had a few successful outings for Blues but the majority were busts with one or two fish. Maybe that's why they call it fishing not catching. read more

Came all the way from Florida and decided to take the golden eagle for a striper day trip. Of all the party boats I've ever been on, I have to say this one has been the most disappointing. The deck hands were fantastic though. I want to emphasize that up front. Aside from that, in nearly 8 hours of being on the boat, only about 45 minutes to an hour was spent fishing. The captain would blow the horn for us to fish. Literally 2-3 minutes later we were told to "line up". After the 8th or 9th time this became very frustrating to say the least. He was even blowing the horn to bring our lines in with two stripers "on". Ridiculous. We went up and down the east coast chasing fish from Belmar to NYC. He only twice gave us more than 5 minutes to fish. Again, ridiculous. I don't care that most of us didn't catch fish. I care that we weren't given the opportunity to properly fish. If I had intended on going for a day cruise, I woould have paid for that. Instead I paid to fish...$63 bucks including the pool. I spoke to a couple of other deck hands from other party boats at this marina who said that was not the way it was supposed to be and that I should complain. So here I am. read more

First I must say, the crew was outstanding. Extremely helpful, friendly, and worked hard. Unfortunately, my problem was with the captain. He seemed very pushy and arrogant, especially toward his staff members. His staff was doing an outstanding job and were great. I lost confidence in the captain due to his behavior. We did catch some Ling and it was a beautiful day but there is much room for improvement compared to the other charters I have been on. read more

Our trip on the Golden Eagle was the best! The Captain (Greg) was so friendly and welcoming and the mates were very patient with my fishing ignorance. The boat was clean and the galley food was actually pretty good. We were on the boat during a day when the Captain was on board and he actually cooked the fish we caught with one of his recipes. Not a mouthful was left of a 13 pound bluefish! I do recommend getting a scopolamine patch from your doc just in case the seas are rough. It saved me! read more

I thought I should write a review for Golden Eagle Fishing, since I read the reviews before going out on a fishing charter. I didn't buy the charter, it was given to me as a gift and it was purchased from Living Social. I read all the other reviews and I was a little worried that it was going to suck. It didn't. My friend and I got there more then and hour early, I knew it might be busy. It was a pretty packed boat and I was next to a guy who tried to hook me a few times, but even with that it was fun. It's fishing, there are no guarantees, but we had fun. My one buddies and I caught a total of 8 fish. None were keepers, but we didn't mind. It was fun, if I was trying to catch dinner I might have been disappointed. We had some issues with lines getting tangled, but it was brief and it didn't ruin the trip. I am glad I went in with low expectations, it made it more enjoyable. I certainly wouldn't expect to catch 3 fish every time, but I'm glad I did this time. I caught a shark, and that alone was pretty cool. The other customers were all very nice and the crew was awesome. I can see how people would be pissed if they went out and didn't catch anything. I'm sure the captain and crew don't enjoy that anymore than the customers. The galley could use a little work, the Living Social deal included a hot dog and soda. The galley wasn't nearly prepared for the people that wanted a hot dog towards the end of the trip. I would mark it down another star for that, but it's a hot dog... that sure isn't the reason why I went on this trip. read more
