Golden Gate Gyro food truck was at an onsite corporate event in San Jose. I got the falafel gyro and it was ready within a few seconds. Pita bread was soft, falafel was flavorful, and the veggies added a nice crunch. There was some tahini sauce drizzled on top but I wish there was more of it as the wrap was a little dry! The ratio of falafels to veggie/sauce/bread was slightly off. Fries were included on the side and I'm not a huge fries fan generally but they leaned on the softer side. They work at my workplace, I happened to get the chicken gyro at a discounted price and I must say it was definitely value for money. The portion of the chicken was pretty decent although not over the top. As many other reviews have stated, the food color (red) was a bit off putting and over the top. It was tender for sure, although I am not 100% sure how fresh it was. But I liked it. Some white sauce and spicy sauce added as well - they ask you if you want it spicy. They were at my company on a weekday and I decided to give them a try. The meal was subsidized and I only paid $5. Portion size was pretty good, but I would say the flavor was just ok. I had a chicken over rice, which came with some greens as well. The rice was mildly seasoned. Chicken was tender, but was also not flavorful & like what everyone else has brought up, it's got a weird red color to it. The white sauce had dill, so if you aren't a fan of dill, probably ask for them to not include the sauce. Michael (a total sweetheart) asked me if I wanted it spicy, and while I was deciding whether I wanted sriracha or not, he told me he had a different sauce I would like. I was happy to try it and paid my $19. The food was ready impressively quickly - it must have been under 3 minutes of waiting. He gave me the special sauce (red but lighter in color than sriracha) in a separate little box and I brought my food home to eat. I don't think I would've been able to eat just the lamb but together with the chicken, it was great. This was one of the food trucks at our swim champs held at a local High school here in Pleasanton. Champs is an event where the kids compete in swim meets all day. I was very hungry by the time that we made it out to the food trucks. I didn't want a burrito, I didn't want a burger/fries or anything greasy - it was a very hot day and I wasn't in the mood for Junk. I was quite happy to see the gyro truck, because I knew they'd be a break from the usual. I wish I could remember the name of the man waiting on me that day because he was very helpful, super friendly and he really wanted to make sure I enjoyed what I ordered. I had a lot of questions, because I wasn't quite sure what to get, and I knew meat would just be too heavy. I had some falafel, and just a smidge of white sauce. The falafel was excellent! The prices were clearly posted on the side of the truck ($12.00 for gyro on pita & $2.00 for bottle of water) . . . yet my tab for 1 of each was nearly $23.00! I asked for clarification and the server (who claimed to have worked there 2 years) said "I was not reading the prices correctly." I mentioned that the posted (handwritten) water price is defintiely $2 (not $3 as he claimed) and simiarly for the gyro ($12, not $17). The server insisted that I was not reading the numbers correctly. Even the Golden Gate Gyro webite says $15.99 for 1 entree, 1 side dish and 1 drink ... so how is it that I was charged way more but got less product than this deal? The last time I checked, ANY REPUTABLE BUSINESS CHARGES the POSTED PRICE (even if the posted price is wrong). The server's attitude was pathetic. The customer in line behind me confirmed that the food truck was NOT HONORING their POSTED PRICES and shook his head. I suggested to the server that he change the handwritten prices to reflect what he was charging customers to ensure that no others were caught off guard ... but he refused to do so. What? Ridiculous! I went inside the pub and told everyone inside (60+ people) that the food is decent but be prepared to pay a lot more than the posted price. Needless to say, after my purchase, there was NO LINE at the Golden Gate Gyro truck all night. The PRICE GOUGING by Golden Gate Gyro food truck was unconscionable. We have been coming out as regulars since they have been coming out with their food truck supporting our community during these times.
