Chicken gyro
Arvind S.

They work at my workplace, I happened to get the chicken gyro at a discounted price and I must say it was definitely value for money. The portion of the chicken was pretty decent although not over the top. As many other reviews have stated, the food color (red) was a bit off putting and over the top. It was tender for sure, although I am not 100% sure how fresh it was. But I liked it. Some white sauce and spicy sauce added as well - they ask you if you want it spicy. I like that the white sauce was not over the top. Order was pretty instantaneous to come out, appreciated the quick service! They also do a half and half btw, a colleague did the half lamb half chicken and said he preferred the lamb to the chicken.

They were at my company on a weekday and I decided to give them a try. The meal was subsidized and I only paid $5. Portion size was pretty good, but I would say the flavor was just ok. I had a chicken over rice, which came with some greens as well. The rice was mildly seasoned. Chicken was tender, but was also not flavorful & like what everyone else has brought up, it's got a weird red color to it. The white sauce had dill, so if you aren't a fan of dill, probably ask for them to not include the sauce. They also had a bottle of the red "spicy" sauce on the condiment stand, but it wasn't spicy and had more of a sour kick to it. The guy who took my order seemed friendly, hence the 3 stars. Otherwise, I would say the flavors were not memorable and I wouldn't be back.

My company hired the food truck for an event and it was great! I got the falafel gyro and enjoyed it! The falafel was not dry and was of good consistency. It didn't fall apart while eating. They were kind enough to put the sauces on the side so my gyro was not drowning in sauce. The workers were super kind and the service was quick!

Stopped by Golden Gate Gyro at the Gordon Biersch Night Market in San Jose and I'm so glad I did! I was first in line and ordered the Chicken Over Rice. Michael (a total sweetheart) asked me if I wanted it spicy, and while I was deciding whether I wanted sriracha or not, he told me he had a different sauce I would like. I was happy to try it and paid my $19. The food was ready impressively quickly - it must have been under 3 minutes of waiting. He gave me the special sauce (red but lighter in color than sriracha) in a separate little box and I brought my food home to eat. The Chicken Over Rice was fantastic - flavorful juicy chicken, well cooked rice, and fresh crunchy veggies. I liked the white sauce but LOVED the special sauce, which was the perfect level of spicy. I wish I had asked the name of it, but Michael was spot on with his recommendation. The portion size was very generous, but I managed to finish the entire meal. Would totally return!

My homie hit me up one day and told me a Gyro truck pulled up outside his office and I should stop by to check it out, I was already debating on what to have for lunch so this was obviously fate rearing its head at the right time. The menu offers a variety of options from plates, salads, wings, baklava, and fries but the real star of the show for me, is the gyro wraps (of course). The meat (lamb or chicken) is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, with a delicious blend of spices that truly capture the essence of Greek cuisine with the perfect. The pita bread is soft and fluffy, and the toppings - from the tzatziki sauce to the fresh veggies - are all top-notch. If you're a vegetarian, they got you covered. I asked for spicy and they delivered on the spicy because I need that kick in my life. Michael was running the truck solo, he's extremely friendly, welcoming, and moves very quick in the kitchen, the turn around for the food was surprisingly fast, so don't let any long lines scare you. Everything here was efficient and Mike was very attentive, ensuring that every customers question is answered and they feel well taken care of. Overall, I highly recommend Golden Gate Gyro. Whether you're a die-hard fan of Greek food or just looking to try something new and exciting, you won't be disappointed at all!

Order ready in about 3 minutes! Had the lamb gyro & chicken rice plate. The lamb was tender and flavorful but a bit too salty. I don't think I would've been able to eat just the lamb but together with the chicken, it was great. I have to admit I found the deep red food coloring of the chicken a little off putting but it was delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The rice was perfect and so was the salad with sauce.

The hours specified are incorrect. The truck does not have a specific location, as well as it does not have specific working hours. I went to the address posted on their website and found the truck parked. Awful.

Rubbery thing in my food

So gross! Their food truck came out for lunch for a company event. I ordered a chicken gyro sandwich and bit into a rubbery thing, like the top of a container?? I thought it was a tendon or something. After throwing out the piece, I took another bite and there were tiny rubbery pieces and I spit out the bite and threw the whole meal out. On top of it, what is that red color they use on the chicken? After the 2 bites, my heart was racing 30 min later and for another 1-2 hours. MSG??

Participated in a food truck event recently and Golden Gate Gyro was one of the options we could choose from. The food was really delicious! Got to try the lamb gyro and the mixed combo over rice that has chicken and lamb over rice with salad. Chicken was unexpectedly a little spicy and lamb was incredibly tender and flavorful. Food portions were huge. Really happy with our food and would definitely get it again. The guy working the front was incredibly nice and kind.

The dude and I came here on 07/04/21 as our food option for the A's game. Within the last few years I've grown to appreciate Mediterranean cuisine. We decided yo give this food truck a try. The line was long but reasonable and moved pretty fast. I got the Chicken Swarma pita as the dude got the Lamb pita, we also got two orders of Baklava too which was good. The chicken pita was pretty good, very flavorful and it made my taste buds dance with happiness! The portion size was huge so I didn't even put a dent in it and I was so full. I had left overs. The dudes lamb pita was very chewy which I am a fan of lamb but I didn't like the texture of the meat at all and lacked flavor for me. The dude agreed but he still enjoyed his Lamb pita. The Baklava was honestly my favorite as it was so tasty and the honey topping was my favorite. The staff was friendly and nice and I would come again! It was such a treat!

Chicken rice plate (spicy)

Golden gate gyro served out their rice and fry plates quite fast, most likely since they have batches of meat prepared for a quick TAT. The spicy chicken wasn't that spicy, but it was tender and not bad. Contrary to what some comments said, their lamb was not overly salty which is pretty lucky. My other coworker had gotten their falafel plate and it came with 10 pieces which is A LOT. It also looked pretty tasty! If it's around, I'd pick up a plate again - 3.5 .

I'm not an authority on Afghan food so this is rated as an outsider…read more Overall the food can be summarized as: lightly seasoned, enjoy the simple flavors of each component, and Must use the sauces to complete the dish. I personally think everything needed some salt, but maybe it's meant to be this way. Highlight is most definitely the green sauce (yogurt and chili, not spicy), baklava (sweet sticky on the bottom and flaky crisp on top, not overly sweet), yogurt mint drink (dough). Shami beef and chicken kebab were juicy and not dry. Through a bit of miscommunication.. I was given the yogurt drink instead of the normal side of yogurt cucumber sauce for the meat, and was warned by Ali that some people don't like it since it's a yogurt drink with salt, but honestly it was great and was essentially a yogurt mint sauce I expect from other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern type places but more watery. So admittedly I just took sips of this while taking bites of the kebab and rice and it was pretty much the flavors I was looking for, but an extra step. Beef Mantu was another source of confusion since there are regular and homemade versions (I didn't realize). They made me the homemade version without confirming with me on the phone; no problem. It was filled with lightly seasoned beef and topped with interesting spices. Overall not bad not great, definitely needs sauce / salt. Too light in my opinion. And for $25 I wouldn't get again not worth it. The customer service from Ali was great. Knowing this was my first time he explained everything, offered to charge me less due to the miscommunications (I declined), and gave complimentary side of sauce and baklava as a nice gesture. Good food. I know how to order next time. Extra green sauce or yogurt drink all over.

Good stuff! The star rating is purely for the type and grade of restaurant this is…read more As we've always had this place on the raider being its neighbor, we finally made it here and met the owner. Service was pleasant, and we received enough attention throughout the meal course. Great, open seating with the view on the Monument Boulevard, that was bright and comfortable. The outstanding Afghani food, and even better the desserts with saffron tea made this experience complete throughout. Would highly recommend Narunj Palow with thinly sliced dates. Turned out to be a little bit pricier than I thought it would be for a lunch, however, it really did worth it.

To keep it short…read more.. Excellent food. Excellent service. Gluten free options. I will definitely make sure to visit again when I'm in town. -------------- If you want to read my story of how and why I tried this place, read more here: I walked by this place while my car was getting an oil change. They had a sign that said in big letters, "HUNGRY? We can fix that!" Like Winnie the Pooh, I checked in with my stomach and answered yes! I was famished. I had brought my lunch with me but left it in the car while it was getting the oil changed, so I had nothing to nibble on. It was kind of early, maybe 10 AM, and I didn't even think they would be open, but then I realized they did have the sign outside on the sidewalk. I walked by the front door and it opened automatically. My heart started to flutter. So I went to look at their menu online and saw that they had chicken shawarma bowls. I love chicken shawarma. I decided to look them up on Yelp and make sure they had good reviews. I realized that they were a sponsored ad, and that gave me pause. The last time I went to a Middle Eastern restaurant that was sponsored, it was not so great, so I quickly checked the reviews. They have pretty good reviews! One review said that the chicken was dry, but others were more positive. I had a really good feeling, so I ordered it. Another reviewer commented that the rice was so good -- and they're not normally a rice enthusiast -- so when I placed my order, I upgraded my rice from the white rice that comes with the order to the rice infused with turmeric and garbanzo beans. When I opened my order, the bowl was a pretty decent size. If my husband had been with me, we probably would've been able to split it. In my order, I saw: * Seasoned chicken drizzled with shawarma and a delicious white sauce. * Hummus * Tomato cucumber salad * And this yellow turmeric rice I couldn't resist -- the rice was the first thing I tasted, and it was delicious! I can't quite figure out what flavors are in there, but I could taste a hint of cinnamon, and there were definitely other flavors there. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The hummus could very easily be the best hummus I've ever had. I really enjoyed this meal. I really wanted to eat the entire bowl myself but decided to save half of it for my daughter, who I know will also love it. Customer service was excellent. Adam was at the counter and greeted me very warmly. And when I was leaving, they asked me if I wanted hot sauce and then they put that in the bag. Overall, I give this five stars. I love that the food comes in an eco-friendly container. If there's anything that I could change, it's probably that they put it in a plastic bag instead of a paper bag. I try to avoid plastic as much as possible, but the container was quite big and needed to be in a bag while I hiked back to the oil change place. Oh, and before I forget... one of the first things I asked before I ordered is if the shawarma plate was gluten-free, and he assured me that everything in it was unless I was getting pita. And one more fun note -- when I got back to the car place, someone walked in, saw my food, and immediately asked, "Oh, is that from Manakish?" I was pretty impressed they could recognize it just by the look, especially since the restaurant is about half a mile away. Oh...and when i gave it to my daughter...she loved it so it gets two thumbs up!!

First time dining at Manakish, and overall it was a good experience. I ordered the chicken shawarma…read moreplate with half salad and half rice. The food was flavorful, and they were generous with the amount of meat served. Because of that, I felt they could have included a little more rice to balance the portion, but it's hard to complain about getting plenty of chicken. The service was good and the ordering process was simple. You place your order at the counter and then choose a seat either inside or outside while you wait for your food. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, making for an enjoyable dining experience. I'd definitely come back to try some of their other menu items in the future.
