Feb 3, 2026 5pm ish 3.0 stars. Review for to-go food only. We stopped by for a half order of Tandoori chicken to-go. Background: Wife (and mostly I) have been searching for a new-favorite (local) Indian restaurant. Normally we drive 40 minutes to Dublin to make sure we are not disappointed in our Indian dishes. Our other excursions to local Indian restaurants have not been fruitful. So, while placing our order and as a conversation starter, I throw our cashier\manager(?) a softball comment. I say. "We are here looking for our new, favorite Indian restaurant" I expected a comment from him in return something like " Sir, we have some of the best food here in all of Northern California and have positive ratings on Yelp." Instead in response I got "A half Tandori chicken. Is that all?" The half Tandoori chicken is $15. Later I see on their Yelp page that a whole chicken is $19. We sit down for a twenty minute wait for the food. The restaurant is empty save for us and a phoned in to-go order picker uper. The surroundings look clean and the lunch buffet trays for tomorrow's service are shining. We are handed our food and are off. Twenty minutes later we are home and my wife is complaining. The chicken is cut in small stew sized chunks, saucy and has the texture of not being in a Tandoori oven or of having been grilled. My wife is swearing she will not eat Indian food anywhere but at Shalimar in Dublin. I give her a drive to Dublin rain check to quiet her. Side funny :-) Our half order chicken has two legs. Having first opened in December 1991. New Management took over in 2021. Since taking over in 2021, the new management has updated the decor and furnishings, and introduced a menu curated by a Michelin-trained chef. The food is very good! We called it in and picked it up, but the ambiance was clean, with good interior decorating, and a quiet and well kept dining area. My wife and I went to this restaurant on 10/13/25. At approx. 1410 hrs. There was approx. 3 other parties in the restaurant. While eating a tan colored cockroach (approx 1.25") crawled across the table and up a bowl on the table. My wife immediately got up from the table and pointed at it. I killed it with a napkin and pointed it out to the server. He picked it up and walked away with it. Another party of patrons in the restaurant saw what happened and told us: "That is why we don't sit next to the wall in this restaurant". The server did NOT say anything to us about the cockroach. He just walked into the kitchen with it, and I heard him speaking a foreign language with other employees. When the server and other employees came out of the kitchen, no one said anything to us about the insect. We will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

Four of us dropped in for lunch. They had a buffet set up. The place is spacious but it is set for a mid level dining establishment not fine dining. The buffet was not huge but was sufficient. We tried practically all the dishes between the four of us. Solid Punjabi food but nothing memorable. Desserts could be better. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. Decent Indian restaurant in the heart of the Concord. Surprisingly impressed and would recommend to those who likes Indian cuisine. The Goat curry and Paneer were extremely delicious. Can't tell the same about the Chicken 65 as it was nasty deep fried. And of course you can go wrong with the Butter chicken. The buffet selection is limited and have enough to choose from for $22.60. Halwa for dessert was outstanding. Great location, hidden from the noisy streets. Nicely done on the inside as well as the restrooms. However, require maintenance to keep it in the good order. Great authentic Indian food, very tasty and Presentation of food was very nice, the flowers on the plates were a nice touch. The interior is pretty and nice for large families, dates or work/colleague lunches. There is plenty of parking too which is a plus for me. I met up with some friends for lunch and originally was going to go to Von's but it was empty at noon. Swagat had a sign for lunch buffet and it was $20. They had a good crowd so at least knew couldn't be bad. The spread was good, basket of plain naan upon request. Saffron rice, samosas, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, dahl, a goat or lamb curry. Serving was nice and plates were cleared periodically. They charge 3.5% for using credit cards. They prefer cash, check or debit. Another stop on my Indian buffet journey! I enjoyed the selection here as they had dishes I have not tried before such as a lychee halwa, eggplant curry, and aloo tiki which was delicious!! I would definitely come back although it is a bit more out of the way from Oakland. I admire the staff for handling a busy lunch crowd and still checking in to make sure everything was stocked. We booked their private party room on December 25th, 2025 for an Anniversary party. We opted to go for their regular lunch buffet and requested Jerry (the person in charge) for few extra items to be added to the menu. He was very accommodating and was able to add most of the items to the buffet. The venue was clean and beautifully decorated, the seating was adequate. Food was excellent and the staff served hot breads to our tables during the meal. We had a great party! With the type of service we got all our guests agreed that we will use this venue for other parties in the future. Thanks to Jerry for being such a good host. Went here with a ex-coworker who enjoys Indian food. Been here a few times with him. What I like about the buffet is that even If you have no clue about the food, or even if it tastes authentic, you can just try a little of each and find what you like and go back for more. Example: They had three different salad dishes and I preferred one that consisted of primarily chick peas. I also preferred the lemon rice over the saffron rice, a few items were too spicy so I'm glad I didn't waste the restaurants food, the butter chicken and tandoori were very tasty and who would have thought I'd enjoy Goat curry so much. It's not the same array of food you see at other Indian buffets- they actually had a beet salad, a sweet & sour tofu to die for, two types of rice (tamarind & saffron), & several vegetable dishes to choose from along with a tandoori dish, chicken curry and goat curry & a chickpeas dish. It's been a while since I ate here and last time I did was during Covid when they only had Togo options. I mentioned to my friend I wanted to eat here again for their buffet, so he met with me and we tried it out. This review will focus more on the overall items I tried, and I'll do my best to remember exactly what I ate. For the buffet, you start with some Chaat and various chutney sauces and a yogurt sauce as well. You also gave a salad, as well as a Samosa and what I think is a Tikki(?). From there, you move onto various entrees, such as Saag, Butter Chicken, chicken Tandoori, Goat Curry, Chilli Fish and some Lentil option. The rice you get is Saffron rice or some more fancier veggie rice that is reminiscent of Biryani rice. At the dessert is rice pudding or mango kesari. Overall, the food was great. We get naan bread brought to our table and as soon as we head to the buffet round, the waiters promptly take our dishes so we have a clean table. My all time favorite is the Butter Chicken and dipping it in Naan bread is a winner to me. The Chilli fish was good at the start, being crispy, but after it sits, the crispness does die down. The one dish that caught me by surprise is the Saag. It has its unique visual appeal but tastes absolutely delicious. Lunch is about $25 a person, which I find a bit fair for a buffet. I found the paneer akbari to be somewhat spicy as I can only handle a mild level of spiciness, but overall the food was good, quite creamy and decently flavored. Since we had ordered delievery and the delivery app driver didn't pick up three of the items we ordered (it had been packaged in a separate bag, so they missed it), one of us had to go back and drive to the restaurant to get it, but as a result, the restaurant was kind enough to give us some rice for free. read more

This was our first time to their buffet, and we will return for sure. We had enjoyed our dinner, and brought friends to try the buffet with us. Two had the mango lassi to drink, and loved them. We had the masala tea and loved that too. Each item on the buffet table was hot, freshly made, attractively arrayed, and delicious! Our waiter, Jerry, helped identify each item and told us the 'hotness' levels for our tastebuds. I ate everything and loved it all. Well, that's an improvement! The old Swagat was pretty tired and meh, so much so that we'd stopped going several years back in favor of superior Indian restaurants in the area. But the new management has revived it! The depth of their menu is excellent, with quite a few non-standard items. But the real standout are the sauces. These guys know what they're doing with tempering and blending. The flavors are rich and complex. Some were best in class and the others were absolutely good but not outstanding. Overall, a 4/5 for sure. I've dine there twice now and each time was a similar (good) experience. They've solidly established themselves as one of the best Indian options in the area. read more

Highly recommend. We have been going here since my wife and I were in our teens (in the 90s) and always scratches off our Indian food cravings. Even after new owners took over, the tradition continued with very tasteful, high quality Indian food. Solid choice in buffet selection as well. A bit of a bummer that there is a transaction fee of 3% if you use your credit card. Cash is preferred but I won't fault this place because of it. Still giving a solid 5 stars. Very good, delicious Indian food. Their menu has the typical staples: butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, biryani, saag, a nice selection of vegetarian dishes. My favorite dish here was the chicken biryani. It was the PERFECT amount of spices and had a nice kick, but not too spicy-just right. The rice to chicken ratio was 1:1, and they used tender pieces of dark meat chicken...which is so flavorful! This is my favorite Indian comfort food and I've had it at almost every restaurant that has it on the menu. This dish at Swagat is probably the best chicken biryani I've had in a long time (and I've had it at over 100 different places). What makes it so good? Probably because the flavors were perfectly balanced. Every bite takes me back to London and the Indian restaurants there were just amazing. read more

I lived in the South Bay and Fremont area for a good portion of my adult life, so I like to think I have pretty high standards for Indian food. Swagat exceeded all my expectations! We got takeout, so can't speak to the inside of the restaurant, but the food was awesome. I got the lamb biryani, which was perfectly spiced, the lamb was so juicy and tender, and the serving size was very generous. My husband got his usual order of chicken tikka masala with a bunch of naan. Before you judge him, it's actually somewhat helpful to have the same dish at every Indian restaurant you go to because you can sort of benchmark which do it well. Food is great but service is poor: Very poor service for pick up orders. No matter what time you agree to pick up your order at, they'll make you wait. On multiple occasions when i ordered for pick up, they'll had me wait at-least 30 minutes and even more before handing me over my order. Then they have a variety of excuses such as, "they are warming up the food", they are packing your food" so on and so forth. I was not going to write this review thinking that it was only the one time that they were delayed but as this is happening to me again and again, so i am leaving this review hoping that they can work on their communication and commitments for pick up times! read more

I ordered a full tandoori chicken, but received only a leg and thigh. The menu offers full and half chicken options but does not describe that the full portion is just leg and thigh. As an Indian, I was craving for Naan and Chicken gravy to I naturally ordered bread basket and Kadhai Chicken. Then after 20 mins, we were served Kadhai Shrimp. After we pointed it out, it took another 10mins to get Kadhai chicken while we had half of olive bread and the worse part is that Kadhai chicken was so bland including lack of salt. We strolled into Swagat at about 12pm for their lunch buffet! My boss who is an Indian food expert tried this place and wanted us to try so we did! I think my favorite was the chicken biryani and butter chicken they were super flavorful and I just love that it's buffet style and we got to try a little bit of everything! They provide unlimited naan bread and their goat curry was also delicious and the meat was tender and not too chewy! The service was quick and all the servers were pleasant and brought out so many naan bread for us to enjoy. The buffet also came with the rice kheer and lychee firni which were both delicious. Pros: very clean inside, parking is not an issue on Sunday evening at least. Service is attentive. They refilled our water 3-4 times. Asked if anything was missing. The Lahori fish pakoras are good, crunchy on the outside and melt in your mouth soft on the inside. Spice level can be adjusted. My favorite thing was the Raita, very creamy, probably the best I have ever had. Cons: If you use credit they charge a credit card fee of 3.5 % along with the sales tax of 9.75% so beware plus the tip you choose if you even choose to...They bring the handheld credit card reader to your table , it's contactless and prints the receipt right there. 4/5 read more
