Great food for really reasonable prices! The burger was the perfect size- not too big- and tasted so fresh! We had fries and onion rings with our burgers and both were hot and fresh right out of the fryer. Delicious! The place is small, but the atmosphere was cute - retro burger joint feel with lots of vintage decor and music playing. Service was unbeatable. Each server checked in with all tables when they delivered food or drinks to their own, asking if everything tasted alright and if there was anything else we needed. Such a charming little diner on Main Street in downtown Waukesha. The place is small - maybe 10 tables in all. But the 50s theme - from Elvis mannequin in the window to the period jukebox to the TV tuned to Leave It to Beaver - is adorable. And the food is excellent. Our meal began with a fun "amuse bouche" - three fudge stripe cookies. The cheese curds were some of the best I've ever had - battered rather than breaded and served with ranch. The bacon cheeseburger was amazing - served on a toasted bun with bacon that was perfectly crisp. And the fries! They were everything McDonald's used to be. The service was as great as the food. Let's start with the service. I arrived with another person and when we walked in the young lady behind the counter greater us and said we could sit anywhere. We sat down and she came over asked if we wanted drinks and handed us the menu. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with lite mustard and ketchup and raw onions. I ordered a side of fries and a Coke. The other person in my party wanted a cheeseburger and asked what kind of onions they served. The young lady said "you can have the raw or cooked". Again he asked what kind of onions do you have, again he was told "so like you can get them like raw or cooked" He said no onions and then asked for a cheeseburger with fries. The waitress repeated the order but said we both wanted bacon cheeseburgers, so we corrected her. We let her know only one of us wanted a bacon cheeseburger. The problem here is when she was asked what kind of onions do you have it meant, red, yellow, or white. It did NOT mean raw or cooked. This was frustrating because ad a sever you should be able to understand the food you serve and answer questions customers have about the food. We next need to talk about the terms that came in. There was a group of teens that walked in and immediately it became uncomfortable. They were kinda hanging out, distracting the young female waitresses from their jobs and causing an uncomfortable atmosphere. They didn't seem like they had a purpose for being there and they certainly didn't plan on ordering anything. They just kind hung around, then repeatedly walked in and out being loud and boisterous acting like it was their personal hang out. They were all males which caused a problem for the female staff in general as the focus was the group of boys and not their jobs. A man came from the back who appeared to be either the manager or owner and called the group of boys out which caused them to finally leave and not return. The food was very good. The food gets 5 stars easily. The burger was cooked well and the fries were delicious. The man that ran the group of boys out gave us a piece of cake for no apparent reason which neither of us wanted. He seemed offended by this, however although it was appreciated for medical reasons it was not something we could eat. The gesture was nice, however, it almost became an issue when we said we couldn't eat it. I paid the bill and we left without incident. Food 5 stars Service 1 star Atmosphere 0 The food was outstanding, however based on the waitress's lack of understanding about what customers were asking (what kind of onions you have is not a difficult question) and her inability to stay focused on us rather than the boys outside and the boys once they came inside, along with the boys seemingly being very comfortable to just come in and take over with no reprimand or respect towards the staff or the diners, I cannot recommend this establishment. First off, great servers, very friendly and upbeat. But the food was so disappointing. We started with the cheese curd app, when it arrived we thought it was a joke. It was so small. Seriously only 9 tiny dry not even fresh fried curds. They didn't even taste good and cost $7. We each got a burger and split an order of app sized fries. The fries basket was again super small. This was the new restaurant check in so I stopped by to check them out. First off parking on the Main Street proved to be difficult on a Saturday at noon but if you go down the the alley or around the corner the back block has plenty of parking and just walk through the short alley. I like what's old is new again because I would have loved to live through the 50s 60s and 70s and I always said that I was born too late. The decor is absolutely amazing and maybe not totally 50s correct but it's done very well with the big boy like figurines on top of the awning. I like the menu but I don't like how the menu burgers are arranged so I would combine 2 menu burgers with + and - ingredients to create a cheeseburger more my style. I would take the best of 2 menu burgers and and create the Steve cheeseburger. I took the bacon double cheeseburger and Frankensteined it with the California cheeseburger for a double cheeseburger with bacon, cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato and raw onions. My server was completely confused because he asked several questions about my order and writing 2 checks until he fully understood my request after all the confusion I thought my cheeseburger would end up lost in translation but to my surprise the high school jock young man nailed it, great job adapting at a special order request because he went from deer in the headlights to being a boss. Ok enough of of the great experience of my double cheeseburger and onion rings looked great with perfect melted American cheese, sesame bun and a ranch dipping sauce for the onion rings. The Steve cheeseburger was amazing with juicy beef patties which might be fresh beef because of the juicyness and tender texture. The fresh bun and toppings were a plus. The onion rings were very crispy with tender onions inside and the unexpected ranch dipping sauce was a nice touch. If you are looking for a unique 50's dining experience, then this is the place. First time here and we were impressed. Got here at 11:30, and the place was already starting to fill up. There is seating inside as well as tables out front. The owner Joey was there and he is friendly, gregarious, and funny. Never missed a opportunity to say "Welcome to Joey's, take any place to sit", or "god bless you" on the way out. As soon as we arrived, our server checked in with us for waters/drinks. Super friendly, and helpful. We ordered the onion rings and a couple of burgers. My friend got the double bacon cheeseburger. I got the Elvis Burger (Peanut Butter, Banana and Bacon). Not because I am an Elvis fan, but it sounded interesting. The food came out quick. It was hot, flavorful, and good size portions. The Onion Rings hot, perfectly breaded and had the right amount of salt. The breading creates a course texture, that adds to the flavor. The burgers were hot and juicy. My friend loved the double bacon cheeseburger. My Elvis Burger was.... interesting. My first bite was a big one, and since there is plenty of peanut butter, my mouth almost felt like it was glued shut. After some water, I was able to get it down. After that point I learned to take small bites. It was good, but not my favorite flavor combination. The fries were also very good too. Even though you have a table server, you need to pay at the counter. And Joey was the only one that was able to do this. We needed to wait for Joey to be available for this. I was excited to try Joey's Diner since I heard people raving about it. The decorations at the diner were great! The decor ties the diner theme together, with vintage signs, posters, etc. There's even a dinosaur and Betty Boop statue! I thought the phone stands on all of the tables were a nice touch, the party next to us was enjoying their meal while watching a game together. The diner was very clean including the bathrooms. I ordered a Patty Melt and water and my wife ordered a mushroom Swiss combo and a soda. I was given a patty melt and fry's unfortunately I can't eat fry's due to medical issues, we were told they wouldn't show up on our order. But when we paid it was a debacle first we were charged for cheese curds which we never had at all, then when he fixed it I was still charged for the fry's I couldn't even eat and I never ordered. We won't be returning they can't get their act together for a simple order and despite being told they wouldn't charge me for things I didn't order I still ended up being overcharged.
