I'm sorry to say I had a very disappointing experience with Golden State Towing. My vehicle was completely inoperable and only needed to be towed approximately 1/4 of a mile to a nearby garage. Despite the extremely short distance, I was charged $260, which I felt was excessive and unreasonable. There was little explanation for the high cost, and I left feeling taken advantage of during an already stressful situation. I understand towing services have minimum charges, but charging this much for such a short tow seems unfair. I would recommend that anyone considering this company ask for a detailed price quote before authorizing a tow. Based on my experience, I would not use Golden State Towing again and cannot recommend them. read more

Really the best service I've ever experienced. Had my Jeep towed from Pacifica to Burlingame. Personally, it's the best local service I've ever used. And it's useful to remember that it's a service. What happens when you are provided service? You typically tip the person helping you. This is no different. These are human beings that work hard. Respect that. Remember the tip before the paperwork was started and only pay The tow truck driver. Never pay over the phone. Always pay day of tow. Before he starts writing you up. Make sure that's the time you tip. Trust me on this. 200 bucks is a freaking deal. It doesn't matter if it's getting towed a half mile or 20 miles. Tow truck companies have flat rates for local tows. San Francisco to San Jose is not local. However, if you live in San Francisco and you're towed somewhere in the peninsula, yeah, that's local crossing the Bay bridge. That's not local. People need to grow up and start realizing it. The bucket you're driving needs to tow and you're complaining about $200. Leave that whip on the street then. Trust me, that's the cheapest you're going to get for a tow. They could write you up for recovery and make it $500. 100% professional. read more

We collaborated on a parking garage clean-out of old cars and they answered all of my questions and resolved all of my concerns during the initial phases (I'd never done this before). I was quoted 60 minutes for their arrival, but he arrived in 20 minutes. My motorcycle battery died on a Saturday morning and this place was able to get me a jump. It took a while for the mechanic to arrive (90 min) but he was able to maneuver a way to jump my battery around the seat. He didn't have the tools to remove the seat but was helpful and polite. It was very expensive so definitely only use this service in an emergency. read more

Used Golden Gate towing to remove cars on our business property that have been parked there for months. Francisco was very professional. Called him and got all the information needed. He posted his signs that night and cars were towed 2 days later with no fee to us. I used him at one of our other locations as well. Wish he did the whole Bay Area so we can utilize him at our other locations but he only goes so many miles from his shop which is understandable and smart. If you need towing in the sf bay location I would highly recommend Francisco and Golden Gate. He even followed up with pictures and email after job was completed. I screwed up and double parked but arrived at golden gate tow 20 minutes after they arrived with my car..it was still in the garage and not in storage area and was charged the full amount 400+ and treated like I was a criminal. They towed it lass than 3 miles and upon arriving had to wait over an hour to let them finish lunch or whatever before they would let me get my car. They don't charge tax and the security and face masks don't apply to staff or family coming in and out of the locked door you are forced to stand in front of until it is time to pay then you are welcomed in where it is warm and allowed in the garage where it has PROHIBITED signs everywhere to retake possession of your car that was just in your driveway less than an hour ago before they towed it. read more

Much like other reviewers, I wish I could give negative stars to Golden Gate Tow! Seriously, I would rather get towing assistance from a gang of rabid gophers than have to interact with these guys ever again. My insurance company reached out to them because I needed a tow to the nearest service station. Instead, they sent someone who spent over an hour trying to jumpstart my battery, then just wanted to leave! This seemed seriously shady, so I called their office and was told, word-for-word, "You're wasting my time," and then hung up on. I've worked in customer service, so I know it can be challenging, but this experience was the most shocking example of how NOT to talk to a customer, or to any human being, for that matter. In the end, I had to argue with them to LET me pay them the $150 fee to tow the car, for which they also billed my insurance company. I am being reimbursed by my insurance for the money, but not for my time. This company seems really shady. My car was stolen. When the police found it, it was not drivable. I called my insurance company and they found this tow company. They told me the time estimate was over 2 hours. I settled in for a a long wait. However, it wasn't more than 15 minutes later when Mario drove up to tow my car home. I can't say enough good things about Mario. He was extremely quick and good at his job. However, even more than that, he was exceptionally easy to talk to and calming. His approach was so personable and pleasant that it took most of the sting out of the experience. I found myself feeling calm and enjoying the conversation. He took care of both my car and me. I can't thank him enough. He has the perfect bedside manner to help ease the pain of having to get your car towed. I hope you never have to get your car towed, but if you do, call Golden Gate (and ask for Mario, if you can). read more

How I wish I could give negative stars! Apart from charging $400 for their "service", they throw in a free lecture on common sense. As if their outrageously expensive charges are not high enough, they try to cheat the car owners into paying more than what they should. You call them in the night asking them about your towed car and are shocked to hear it'll cost you $550. You are also suggested to come pick it up right now, for you'll be charged extra if you come tomorrow. You go there in the night only to realize that it could've been just $400 had you picked your car up the next morning ($150 is after hours picked up fee, which is never mentioned to you). I know it's a tough business where customers are unhappy, but how about having some morals? read more

This company engages in the most pernicious form of price gouging there is. They apply a separate set of rates to the consumers who are obligated to pay them. This is different from traditional cases of price gouging (which are often still illegal) because there is no sudden imbalance between supply and demand like there might be in a hurricane for example. My girlfriend's car was towed by Golden Gate Tow because it was improperly parked in my apartment complex. They charged $270 for the tow, $85 (per day) for the storage and $135 because it was Sunday. I recently called them for an identical quote and they responded with $75 for the tow (70% less!) and $35/day (60% less!). read more

Lol I've had multiple experiences with these guys and they are great. Francisco who seems to be the operator/dispatcher is always friendly and informative, prices are MORE than fair (after calling around, I've always gotten the best deal). Francisco always sends help in a timely manner, no matter how far. Weather you need a flatbed for a lowered car, a dolly for a damage vehicle, or an experienced driver to maneuver a vehicle out of a tight spot....Golden Gate Tow will save the day!!!! read more

I'm a bit delayed writing this review but Golden gate tow left me stranded in San Francisco for hours. I locked my keys in the car (hit my door shut with my backpack while putting it on) and they told me someone would be with me in 50 minutes. 2 hours later I call for an update as I was trying to be patient. They called and said something came up and told me 2 more hours. They weren't apologetic at all and when I told them that I was quoted 50 minutes, two hours ago I was given attitude .. safe to say I cancelled waiting for them and had my wife bring my spare key when she was off of work as she could get to me quicker than they could. Just learned today that my car was towed by GGT last week (June 1st) at the instruction of Impark. I pay Impark for a monthly pass to park in the lot that my car was in, but the hang tag / permit apparently fell off the rear view mirror, so it wasn't visible. I don't drive my car, regularly so today (June 4th) I discovered that it had been towed. I call GGT and they're asking for over $700 for it to be released - absolute fraud. They want more than $270 for the tow, $85 per calendar day that it's been in their possession and $130 for a weekend fee. I had no idea that it had been towed - the proper thing to do would have been for Impark and GGT to contact me upon it being towed and it would've been picked up immediately. Charging over $700 to hold the car for a few days is criminal and I will be taking this issue to small claims court in order to help protect other citizens out there. read more

They charged $420 for towing my car, "storage" fee for less than 2 hrs, "electric car" fee because it supposedly cost more to tow, and "gate" fee for I don't even know. That and when I got there they weren't there and I had to wait 20 minutes in front of their fortress citadel of metal gates and brick walls. but it didn't ruin my day but boy are these guys fooey! read more

Had my car for no more than 30 minutes and charged me $530 to get it out. $260 for the tow, $60 for special tools (they had to tow it out by the rear wheels and it's front wheel drive; WTF), $130 for a weekend fee, and $80 for an after hours fee?! Driver gave me some shit about him not being able to change a tire on the freeway so he started to escort me to the exit and then he turned his lights off and drove off.
