Golden House is my new go-to spot for takeout in Worcester! I've been searching for proper American Chinese takeout for a few years. This was a wonderful experience. The plain lo mein was delightfully savory and cooked just right, and it made for fantastic leftovers, while the vegetable fried rice had the ideal mix of fresh, crisp vegetables and fluffy rice. I love how crunchy the cabbage was. The spare ribs were tender and packed with smoky sweetness, and the sweet and sour chicken had a perfectly balanced sauce with crispy, juicy chicken. I love when restaurants use white meat. The fried shrimp were golden and crunchy, not overly greasy, and the scallion pancakes were flaky and delicious, with just the right amount of oniony goodness. The portions were generous, the food was piping hot on arrival, and the service was friendly and efficient. I can't wait to return! read more

Picked up my order, got home and realized they forgot my chicken wings. Called, and manager told me to go back and get them. Told her no, deliver it to me (they do deliver). When she stated there was no one available, I told her I wanted to be compensated for the considerable inconvenience. After putting me on hold, a different manager told me I would be compensated. When I got there, they wanted to give me two egg rolls instead of credit for the wings. Told her I don't like egg rolls. I want credit for the wings. In the end, I didn't get compensated, and left angrier than I was before. Guess I'll just have to look for a new Chinese food takeout. read more

BE CAREFUL. I placed an order for $12.95, went to pay, and the cashier informed me my card had declined. However, on my end, the transaction appeared to have gone through (it's since posted). I never got my food and my bank just declined my dispute- the cashier refused to provide me an itemized receipt. They will steal your money! BE CAREFUL! read more

The Peking Noodles (i.e. Dumplings) were fairly decent. I prefer them steamed, their supplied dipping sauce had what I think were diced scallions in it, a nice but also common touch. No problems, but at over $5, a tad pricey. Very good takeout, high price. I'd be happier with either 2 less at only $4 or maybe $4.75 for the 8. 3.25/4 no this one. The Hot and Sour soup is a mixed bag. Too much egg white in the broth, not enough spice. The chunks of tofu were far too big and the seaweed chunks tasted...earthy and unwashed. It lacked the hot in the broth and it had too much big broiled egg white chunks in it. Far from the best around. 1.5/4 here. One of my favorite dishes from the last place I lived was at a very publicly acclaimed placed. It was a spicey orange beef dish with broccoli. It was a small, mostly takeout restaurant with a nice dine-in area frequented by Chinese ex-patriots. The Chef not only used oranges, but tangerine slices and peels in a made-to-order sauce and it had spice to it. Anyhow they offered it here. Basically what I got was a beef-General-Tso's in a non-spicy orange sauce. It had no heat, it was a very bland orange flavor. The broccoli also had been overdone and had lost its crunchiness. It was edible but spicy? Not even. For a 'house specialty', the house was not special. 1/4 on this dish. I'd rather have a place advertise hot dishes, warn me when I order it, and actually deliver. Those that say 'spicy dish!" and then give me no spice don't get my approval. Kudos on the dumplings but everything else lacked good flavor! read more

It is tough to find better take out Chinese in Worcester than GH. People are very friendly. I high recommend the beef and broccoli.

I am an over the road truck driver. I have been to nearly every state in this great nation and have eaten in many a restaurant in my travels. With that being said, when it comes to Chinese food, the Golden House is arguably my favorite. Their food is delicious, the Crab Rangoon is the best I've had anywhere. They are always very friendly and my food is always served quickly and is always fresh. If you are ever in the Worcester, MA area, I would definitely recommend you stop in. read more

Their chicken fingers were good, the rice was bland, and the chicken teriyaki didn't taste like a normal teriyaki sauce. It was reddish as well. The general tsoa's chicken wasn't very good either. Anyway, I will continue to search for a great hole in the wall Chinese food place. read more

Have eaten here about 16 times, food is always good. Prices are decent. Always get take out but there are a few tables to eat in. Always clean. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is that the staff is not always that friendly (even if they know you). But I still go back. read more

I ordered the chef's special Dragon of Phoenix tonight. It's sitting in front of me right now. The menu says crab. This is absolutely not crab. It is imitation crab. I know because I LOVE crab and I freaking detest imitation crab. I never would have ordered it if the menu said imitation crab. They lied on their menu. I expected crab. For an $18 dinner, there should be actual crab in the food. Imitation crab has nasty texture and a weird taste. I'm incredibly angry that they lie on their menu. Is that even legal? I paid for crab and got imitation crab? That's probably illegal, because it isn't what I was agreeing to pay for. Never ordering from here again. Now I have to throw this food away. Waste of money. I'll probably eat cheerios for dinner instead. Some people are picky eaters. Which is why you shouldn't LIE on your menu. If it said imitation crab, I would have ordered something else. read more

Worst Place ever :-( They messed up order twice and apparently don't know what chow main is..... Such a waste of money

This place is great. Nothing fancy, but who expects that from chinese takeout? First off let me say this place has some of the best crab rangoons I've ever had, I'm addicted. This is coming from a guy who'll even order rangoons at an Italian restaurant (Leo's Ristorante and yes they were amazing). All the standard appetizers are great and they've got great deals on combination plates for less than $8 that'll definitely be more than enough food for one. They've also got a pretty large number of Chef Specials that have never failed to impress my taste buds when looking to try something new. I've lived across the street from this place for over a year now and I still haven't gotten sick of it, in fact I'm dieing for another one of their creamy crab rangoons. I'm on my way, I'll see you there. Oh and before I forget; I called in 20 minutes after they closed last night (of course thinking it was a Friday rather than a Thursday) and they still took my order!
