I've been here twice and on my last visit the lady said it was their first time making pad thai and pineapple fried rice. It's cool being the first to try something. I've never had that happen at a restaurant before. I got spring roll, boneless ribs, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp pad thai, and pineapple fried rice. The spring roll wasn't good. It was super doughy with barely any filling and tasted weird. The boneless ribs were ok. They had a decent flavor but weren't charred at all. First time having none charred boneless ribs. Next was the sweet and sour chicken. This had a good tasting sauce but the chicken batter was soggy. Sweet and sour chicken for takeout should have the sauce on the side so this doesn't happen. The shrimp pad thai wasn't bad. The shrimp and noodles were cooked nicely but the sauce had a really weird overly sweetness. Last dish was pineapple fried rice with extra cashews. It was good, had a good flavor but had very little pineapple and definitely didn't have extra cashews. They gave little sides of duck sauce but I didn't like it. It tasted like fruit syrup with a splash of vinegar. Overall this place isn't bad. Some dishes are hit or miss. I'd get the pineapple fried rice again. If the pad thai wasn't so sweet I'd get that again for sure. read more

If I could give a minus zero, I would. I have ordered from them a few times per year and it's never fantastic, but just okay. I ordered the 1C. Pork fried rice with no pork in it!! Boneless spare ribs that looked like they were someone else's leftovers and simply terrible. The chicken fingers looked days old, there were only three of them and they were soggy! How can they be days old and overcooked and soggy? The egg roll now comes in a paper wrapping and was not hot and overcooked. The worst part of this review is that I told them my address and the driver still went to my neighbors and had to go back to bring it to the right house. I called the restaurant to tell them how bad the food was and I cannot eat this and the nice young lady said, "I am sorry, that's how we cook it!" I said, "you didn't just tell me that I paid $20 for food that I can't eat and that's the way it's cooked, but you're sorry!" Add insult to injury, she replied, "sorry, it's under new ownership!" I told her you cannot tell a customer they basically have to pay for food that is bad because "it's the way you cook it and it's under new ownership!" Apparently when I requested to speak to a manager, someone is supposed to call me tomorrow! They should not be serving food like this. read more

Worst chinese food ever - ordered food and the portions were so small, they definitely cut back on portions. The boneless spareribs were tiny little pieces, looked like they had already been chewed up, mushy mess. The chicken and beef teriyaki were so thin and small, so overcooked that it was dryer and harder than beef jerky. My son said it was as tough as chewing on the skewer itself. Chicken fingers tasted like chicken nuggets. There was not one good item in our entire order. We spent $130 on food that all tasted horrible - worst experience in take out ever. Will never return....please be cautious. The food used to be so good there but now under new management is not even Chinese Food anymore. It' terrible...we ordered 2 meals. Shrimp and lobster sauce, and sesame chicken. When delivered, one meal - shrimp and lobster sauce was wrong. I called and was first told they couldn't deliver the correct one but we could have a credit. I said no to that. So they said they would bring the correct meal in 20 minutes. When they returned I gave them the wrong meal. The second meal was wrong as well. So I gave up. I threw out the food. I called and asked them to return my cash payment. My husband said his fried rice was dried out and sesame chicken was just okay. Still waiting for my cash. read more

I ordered takeout of several dishes, none of which were very good. The fried rice was hard and dry. The General Gao's Chicken was more like "corporal" punishment. To make matters worse, somehow, they changed one item to a quantity of two (when I only ordered one of that dish). I noticed the error after they charged my credit card and the clerk said, "sorry, I already charged your card." -as if that charge wasn't reversable. This is my favorite Chinese takeout restaurant ever! I used to order here all the time when I lived in Milford and this was always my dinner of choice. So glad to have had it for the first time in over a year this past weekend and found it was still the same great place. The food is super cheap and always delicious and the staff is friendly. They have my favorite lomein and beef teriyaki of any Chinese spot and I love their boneless spare ribs, dumplings, chicken fingers too. They really nail appetizers and they have a great range of main dishes that taste great. Hunan Gourmet is the best Chinese food in town, and some of the best out there in general. Their service is always ridiculously fast, and the food is always fresh and hot. My family and I have been getting food from there for years, and no other Chinese takeout nearby has even come close. They have the best pork fried rice I've ever had, and I ate one time at a Michelin starred Chinese restaurant. I love them. The best small business in Milford! I ordered for delivery tonight and when it came it was the wrong thing (no big deal - mistakes happen). I figured Id just call and have the right thing made and delivered again. I was wrong. The front of house lady rudely told me I was wrong and did in fact order what was delivered. I then asked for them to make me the right order. She demanded the food be brought back, by me (remember this was a delivery - I paid for the convenience), back to the restaurant and I would be given the right dinner, which costs less than what I just paid. On the way there I decided I was just going to get a refund and ditch their food altogether. Now I've eaten here many a time and enjoyed the food very much. It's still good food, but when an order is wrong and I'm to blame, then forced to bring the wrong good back in order to receive the right one, I will no longer be giving them my patronage. Had they offered to delivery the right meal, apologized perhaps, it would've been a different thing. Good food, but when a mistake happens, you pay for it. You make your choice. read more

Best chinese food outside of Boston in my opinion. The lunch meals are a REALLY good deal as well as the dinner meals, I always order the 1G which is inexpensive but there is a lot of food! Best Chinese food we've had in years, my husband and I would occasionally go to Mandarin, which is ok/good, but the food here is sooo much tastier and much better price and portions, very generous. Very simply, yet another MSG-laden Americanized Chinese food restaurant that specializes in combinations of appetizers coupled with soy sauce soaked fried rice. They've compacted the restaurant to half the size it was and specialize in the take-out elements without the buffet anymore. It is not my cup of tea due to my allergy to the synthesized essence of seaweed, but at least their service is relatively quick as their one saving grace. If this is your cup of tea, go ahead. At least they're not overpriced and have large portions, but not my idea of Chinese food. I have to find something better in the area... read more

Why are the reviews so glowing? This is a generic Americanized Chinese food joint, with the same sweet and sour menu as you find in every town. I agree with Dennis - this is nothing special. I got fooled by the positive reviews and drove several miles out of the way for MSG. read more

Definitely the best Chinese food in Milford. When i need delivery this is the place i always call. They have the BEST Chicken Wings in town, they're a little fry crispy and they taste really good. The Beef Teriyaki here is one of my favorites and i never forget to order it. The Fried Rice and the Lo Mein is average as is most of the dishes. I think the General's Gau, Orange Beef, and the Beef with Peapods are the best dishes they do. I would rate this like a 3.5, but i know what to expect from them and i do order here a lot so i'm giving a 4. read more

I uses to eat here 20 years ago and when my husband and I were driving through this past weekend I had to stop in again. It's obviously different now since it seems to mainly be a takeout joint and not sit-down, but it was still better than any Chinese place we've tried on the North Shore. We got vegetable lo mein, vegetable dumplings, beef teriyaki, boneless spareribs, and pork fried rice and found everything to be very flavorful and delicious. This is not a place to eat in. The seating is very limited and not cozy feeling. They used to be double the size a long time ago with the space next door connected. But now they slimmed down. I just get take out quite often. It is always good. Not gourmet special, but why would you expect that here? I also get delivery sometimes. It's a nice place to have in town. read more

We were the only patrons on a Saturday night (there were several people there for take-out). First several pieces of silverware were dirty. Next, the salt shaker had a bit of grease on it. Yuck. After our food came, nobody checked on us. I had to go to the counter to ask for more water. Food was quite salty so I needed several refills of water. They even seemed confused when I asked for water directing me to the frig with bottled water. I had to say "no - just water for the table". Not a good dine-in experience. read more

Also we ordered shrimp tempura which instead of tempura was shrimp with a thick hard coating of batter which was 3 times the size of the shrimp. I called to let them know there was no rice included and the person on the phone first did not understand until after the third repetition. I then asked for someone who spoke english and didn't get that. When he finally understood the issue he said they would deliver the rice. By now the food is cold and it is an hour later with no rice. This is by far the best chinese you will get around Milford. Don't bother with Imperial down the street-- crappy quantity can't beat actual quality of food. Try the lunch/dinner specials here-- you get a ton of food for an unbeatable price (5.95 for lunch). Not much of an inside, it's definitely made for take out but if you do sit the waitresses are excellent, especially since you'll probably be the only person inside. read more

I love their hot and sour soup and the fried rice is not overly greasy - real pieces of veggies and meat. Try the healthy selections. I've been going to this place well before it was bought by the current owners, who are very nice. Yes, there may be places other than in Milford who offer a more sophisticated fare, but as far as I'm concerned this place is the best in the area. BEST crab rangoons.
