I had done some Googling on my door locks (Weiser) because I was thinking of attempting to re-keyi my door locks. After reading about how horrendous Weiser locks were to work on, I decided to give Golden Locksmith a call. I had to have 5 locks re-keyed and called David to see if he could help me out. He quoted me a very fair, flat price, that I agreed to, and he met me at my home at 6pm. After inspecting what I thought I needed to have done (deadbolts), he asked if I needed my door knobs re-keyed as well. I had not even considered them and the scope of the job jumped to a total of 9 locks. I agreed to the additional work and watched as David went to work. Have you ever watched someone work and knew by the way they moved and worked that they were extremely competent at their profession? That was David. He worked quickly and confidently removing and numbering the locks and stayed focused and organized. I followed him out to his vehicle and watched him begin the re-keying process. We chatted as he worked and he explained that some locksmiths will only change one pin on the cylinder to re-key the lock. I watched as he changed all the pins on each cylinder to create a completely different combination. I then learned why locksmiths detest Weiser locks. As he began the process with the doorknobs I could see that these locks were never intended to be re-keyed. They were put together with the intention of, if there was ever a failure, they would have to be replaced in their entirety. Imagine a metal cylinder with a groove cut around the circumference Now imagine a very hard, metal ring that sits very snugly within that groove. In order to get to the innards of that cylinder, that ring has to be removed. It proved to be a very challenging task indeed. David was able to accomplish the almost impossible task without showing any signs of frustration or anger. A true professional because I know I would have thrown that stupid door knob down the street after a few minutes and gone to Home Depot to buy some quality locks. Once the re-keying was done, David quickly and efficiently reassembled and tested everything and had me test as well to ensure I was satisfied with the work. David is small business owner that takes a lot of pride in his work and it is very apparent in his actions. He strives for perfection and I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone that needs an excellent, honest, reasonably priced and competent professional locksmith. Thanks again David! read more
