I started out finding Golden Monkey because I was checking information. The young lady at the front desk answering the phone was kind, considerate, and took time to answer all my stupid questions that she probably gets asked twenty times a day. Then, I stopped in to check the place out and see if an artist's work spoke to me. I told the young lady at the front desk what I was looking for in a tattoo, and she immediately called back for Morgan Buenos. Of the times I have spent in tattoo studios, this was the FIRST time an artist came out, sat down with me, and consulted about what I really wanted. It was a true collaboration. I was able to also email Morgan for a few weeks before the appointment, and what he brought to the appointment blew me away. He was kind, funny, and professional. I can confirm that the place is very clean. You can smell the cleaning products when you walk in. Morgan showed me all the new needles and all he was using. I appreciate that. The price is comparable to all other studios. You can expect at least $150/ hour with nearly any reputable studio, and Golden Monkey is on par. Truly, do yourself a favor--you get what you pay for. I cannot speak to any of the other artists or employees, but the receptionist is very kind and patient, and Morgan is quite the artist. He has a style but is absolutely willing to work outside of that style. If you are new to tattoos, want a cover up, or looking for someone who will truly collaborate with you and exceed your expectations, please see Morgan. He is an artist in his own right outside of even tattooing and has exhibitions as well. (I found this out during our fairly long sitting). This is my favorite place to go get piercings. Jeremiah, or his other name that I will not mention here, is the main guy there. I got my first cartilage piercing there and it had healed wonderfully. The following year, I made it a tradition for my women's volleyball team that we would get "post-season piercings". A group of 7 women with a variety of piercings (rook, tragus, helix, lobe, and nose), all of which turned out great. That particular year, I got my rook. I LOVE IT! Last year, a group of us went again. Last year, I got my triple frontal helix done. The top one is still bothering me now, but the bottom two have completely healed. His angelic hands have worked wonders for us. ***Overview for piercings only*** Location: private parking lot, not big but I don't assume that there should be a high volume of cars at one time. I had and okay experience. When I first walked in the lady wasn't so welcoming.. it took awhile for anyone to even approach me and ask yanno what I wanted to get don't that day etc. The prices here for piercings are expensive. I ended up paying about 80$ to get my nose pierced here whereas If I went somewhere else I would have only paid 25$ for the piercing and jewelry included. Called a few months before to see how much it would cost to get a dermal removed the lady told me that" their is no price for a removal just a charge for them to replace The jewelry. After your piercing is done....they give you instructions on how to take care of it...the area you just pierced... Tattoo: Depends what your looking for...small tattoos are about one hundred dollars... anything big is a hundred and above... if your looking for a production line tattooist then you may get away with doing it there and then....If your looking for a decent and custom design then it will likely take from a week or longer dependent on the demand and popularity of the tattooist....usually set appointments with special requests.. I followed Jeremy and Mike, formerly of Spark Plug, to this new location. It is a wonderfully spacious place with lots of local artwork and hosts shows for local bands (I have yet to see one!). The atmosphere is very laid back professional. Having had work done by Jeremy, the piercing artist and Mike the tattoo artist, I attest to the fact they are both wonderful and I highly recommend them. Recently, I had two micro-dermals in my shoulders done and they healed up great with no trouble! This is the only shop in Fredericksburg that I trust. The people here are great, I've always had a good experience here and from the five or six shops I've been to I feel the most comfortable at this one. Price- Fair. They won't try to take advantage of you. What I've got done. 2011- Double nostril piercing by Elijah Sharps, he explained exactly what he was doing as he was doing it and cracked jokes which made things more comfortable. He made sure that I knew how to properly care for my piercing. I've had this done for a few years and never had a problem. 2013- I was tattooed by Julian Bast when he was an apprentice at the Bowery in Fredericksburg, he now tattoos at Golden Monkey. This dude rules, really nice guy and is a super good artist who keeps progressing. 2014- Tattooed by Tony Talbert during a benefit event that was held at GMT to raise money to improve a local skatepark. Tony is an awesome artist and a great guy as well. The owner Jeremiah has been piercing for years and is known for correcting poor jobs that piercers at other shops (or at home) have done. GMT is a great shop that focuses on cleanliness, customer satisfaction and community. read more

Went for a piercing with my mom and niece to get our cartilage done together. Jeremiah was SO NICE, made us feel comfortable, answered our thousand questions, and was pleasant to talk to during the experience. Knowledgeable and went fast, feels great (which is kind of surprising since I got my conch done). Honestly one of the best piercing experiences I've had. Only downside is it was really expensive after we picked some opal jewelry, but it's really pretty soooo ‍. Jeremiah was amazing! I got a piercing here 7 months ago which has been in constant pain and inflammation since then. It is in my ear crooked, not straight back. I have gotten the same piercings from sorry mom before with absolutely no issues, plus I paid 60 dollars at Golden Monkey whereas at Sorry Mom I paid 25 for a MUCH better piercing. I do believe that my cartilage on the ear Golden pierced is broken or damaged as my ear has been swollen and bleeding on and off for months. The expense here is not worth it because I've literally been in pain for months. Go to Sorry Mom, not Golden monkey--- I wish I could get a refund for this piercing because it was supposed to be a birthday present. read more

I came in the other day looking for a tattoo, and I was very dissatisfied with the whole experience. Upon my arrival, there were about four or five people sitting on the couches to my immediate right and another three to to six behind the desk at any given time... it still took them almost 15 minutes to realize that my friend and I had walked in. From what I was able to over hear, there was a lot of drama with the cops and the like, as well as some inappropriate jokes going on. Anyway, after spending 15 minutes looking through portfolios they had sprawled out on a pool table, we were brought over to the desk and given a short consultation. My friend was requesting a few small symbols and was quoted a price that was way more than i payed for my forearm tattoo years ago in the same place-- hers was about half the size of mine. Upon my request, I was told that I would have to set up an appointment, and have to come in for 4-7 sessions to get what I wanted. I was only asking for a simple rib piece, and things to be added around it later... and they refused that request. My friend decided that she'd get hers that day, and they gave us the run around for another 20-30 minutes, claiming that they only had one artist on staff at that moment-- while there were another 10 or so people just hanging out making jokes and smoking cigarettes. They had an "appointment" come in and they took down her number and said they'd give her a call later in the day once their time opened up since the only person who knew how to work the computer was busy. They never called her, and we took our business else where. All in all, this place seemed to be nothing more than a hang out for proud stoners (as they had a bumper sticker on the wall saying) and punk rockers who had nothing else to do on a Wednesday afternoon than sit around and gossip. read more

Made an appointment 3 Weeks in advance with 100.00 deposit for my first tattoo. Get there on day of appointment with appointment cards in hand and they said they double booked appointments and sorry me and my best friend were out of luck. This was suppose to be a wedding present to my fiancé. I have never in my life had worse customer service then this. This place should be shut down. Don't go here EVER! If I could leave less I would! First off the dude with tattoo bangs totally ripped us off! Came back to get the nose piercing out as it's supposed to be INCLUDED. Guess when I didn't buy the earrings they had to replace the starter one they decided they could charge me. I didnt like the hoop I brought he said he would swap it back to the original. However once he started he says it will be $30! By then it's too late, dude your in the middle of doing it. They charged me $30 to swap it after telling me no problem. Then when it's too late surprise we are charging $30! Tried to sell me what I had already for $90 and I bought that for less...when they realized I wasn't buying the one they showed for more they decided to say they are charging $30 more after the pliers where in my nose!!! Horrible service. No price list on request. Up charges for a piercing already paid. Better not charge more when I have to go back. Not to mention the guy that WORKS there said he was going to NY to get a tattoo, like really dude why not get a tattoo in YOUR shop!!! Should have known better!! Went to schdule an appointment that took place 4 days later, went on that day and was told they put someone in my time slot even though I made my appointment confirmation deposit, was recheduled for the next dayn. All the employees seemed to be immature punks, running around throwing boxes and bottles at rectifier, watching netflix, and I instantly felt that I shouldn't get my work done here. Had Drew as my artist and he failed to ask what I wanted specifically size and placement wise. My tattoo featured 3 crosses, all made to be similar but all 3 turned out misshapen, the front cross had a crooked line and is now forever on me. Obviously did not care about my tattoo or service. Not a very welcoming spot. You get one worded answers with no eye contact. Been here about 3 times because it's what people suggested and I haven't got any work done. I once went in to replace a septum ring and the guy asked me to wait until the piercer got back... I just left after 45 minutes. I can't believe I even waited that long. Extremely pricey too. I went in on the recommendation of two different friends who both only went to Golden Monkey for all of their tattoos. The space was enormous and well-kept. My main problem was the tattoo artist. His work was fine, but the price was a little steep for the size and time it took. The other issue I had was that he never introduced himself or did anything to make me feel comfortable with him and with his work. I do not think I will go there again. read more
