The room itself was excellent. It was spacious, comfortable, and had a beautiful view. Every front desk employee we actually interacted with was friendly and helpful. The woman who checked us out in the morning was especially outstanding. Unfortunately, the hotel's operations just weren't on the same level. When we checked in, our room only had bath towels. We called asking for hand towels and washcloths. Then we called again. Then again. Then one more time. Four phone calls over about four hours...and when someone finally showed up, they brought us three more bath towels. We never did get any hand towels or washcloths. The Wi-Fi was up and down all day and was pretty unreliable even when it worked. We left our Do Not Disturb sign on until around 11:00 a.m., removed it before heading out for the day, and came back to find the room had never been cleaned. The self-parking was another frustration. Neither our room key nor the parking key ever worked at the exit gate, so every time we left we had to use the call button and ask someone to raise the gate. The last straw came on checkout morning. We took one load of luggage to the car and came back for the rest a few minutes later, only to find our room keys had already been deactivated. We went to the front desk, but there wasn't anyone there. Security couldn't help and told us someone should arrive in five to ten minutes. It ended up being about twenty minutes before anyone showed up. While we were waiting, another couple came down because there key didn't work on the parking garage and no one was there to let them out. They were trapped. None of these problems alone would have ruined the stay. Together, though, they gave us the impression that the hotel is struggling to provide good customer service That's unfortunate, because the rooms are genuinely nice and the staff we met were excellent. If management can get the day-to-day operations running as well as the property itself, this could be a really good place to stay. read more

Quick overnight trip to Tahoe left me with limited options for room bookings. Caesar's, Harrahs and Bally's we're all well over $400 a night. I found a king renovated room at this hotel for $250 so I jumped on it. Not going to lie, reviews made me extremely nervous but I was pleasantly surprised. The renovated rooms on the 6th floor were great and the pool looked nice but I didn't get a chance to dip. The hotel itself is nice and check in was quick. I'd def give this place another stay in the future. There's also a Saltgrass steakhouse on site which I want to try as well as a nice upscale restaurant called Mastros we passed by. read more

There should be different pages for different amenities because I have to say the hotel room itself exceeded what I expected. Especially on a July 4th holiday. I knew I booked an old tower room so I expected a dark cave with bugs and dust everywhere, leaking water, gross smell. Lol none of that was the casse. You can't help people stomping around above you but luckily they waited until after 8 am. The room was large and clean and the bed was comfy. Windows opened looking across 50 over to Ballys side, but it was quiet. Front desk ladies weren't that friendly but were laughing with each other. My problem is with the pool area. I paid 165$ for a daybed because the website said chairs would be 75$ so why not pay more for a padded bed. Turns out nobody had to pay for chairs. The pool wasn't that busy at 10 am with no music and ambiance was odd so we left our stuff and went to eat breakfast. We came back and still no music. When I inquired about why the music wasn't playing we were told the speakers were broken. On 4th of July... for America's 250th. Around 1 pm I asked again about the music because... I didn't pay this much money to just listen to kids splash around and scream. I was told a band was supposed to come soon. That never happened. Around 2 someone decided to turn up the music on one speaker that seemed to be working. Vibes were better at that point but still pretty bad considering it was only coming from one side of the pool. Drinks were terrible. I asked for a lava flow, a very common pool drink but got some type of guava mango pineapple coconut mixture. If you don't have the ingredients it's ok to just say so. Anyways the biggest disappointment was the amount of money I paid for expectations not delivered. I already paid 400$ for the room.... Knowing nobody had to actually pay for chairs was a slap in the face because we had our choice of chairs when we arrived at 10. I definitely feel like that was fraudulent advertising. read more

The only thing this place has going for it is the location, which is perfect. The rooms, even in the new tower need help. The sheets on the bed smelled like they stayed in the washer much too long - mildew like. Despite multiple requests, they will not turn down your room. I resorted to leaving the trash outside the room in hopes they would get the hint. The front desk is understaffed and frazzled; I get the feeling they're not used to a large quantity of people (we were in town for an athletic event). read more

Worst hotel experience ever. We originally booked a standard room, but when we checked in, we were given a room with two queen beds instead. We tried to stay positive, but as soon as we walked in, we noticed how dirty the room was. There were Cheetos behind the bed, the toilet was filthy and had to be flushed multiple times before it would work properly, the bathroom was small and dirty, and the entire room felt unclean. Unfortunately, that wasn't even the worst part. My husband laid down on one of the beds and kept saying he smelled something like feces. At first, I thought he was overreacting, but after he mentioned it again, I decided to check the mattress myself. As soon as I pulled back the sheets, I was hit with an overwhelming smell of poop. The mattress had clearly been soiled, and my husband had been lying on it. We immediately packed our bags and went downstairs to let the front desk know what had happened. Their response was disappointing. They simply told us they weren't the manager and there was nothing they could do. We understand they may not have had the authority to resolve the situation, but a little empathy, an apology, or an effort to help would have gone a long way. This level of cleanliness is completely unacceptable, and the lack of customer service made an already awful experience even worse. We are definitely not staying here again. read more

We booked a two night stay here using our free night credit and were asked if we wanted a balcony view room for an extra $40 a night. The room we got had a balcony that was not accessible and view blocked by the scissor lift installed for the construction going on. We went back down and asked for a different room and there was none available of course because it was a weekend and they were sold out. We were able to get the charge taken off and stayed there. It should've been our sign to leave. The neighbors to left us were obnoxiously loud both nights around 1am until about 4am, so yeah the walls are paper thin. The only good thing about this hotel is the Oyster Bar. read more

We came here to watch the NFL Season Opener. They are doing a lot of remodeling and there is construction everywhere. We were looking forward to eating at the Oyster Bar, but it was closed. We checked out the sports book, but it was more of a restaurant then a sports book. You couldn't sit in there and watch then game unless you had a booth reserved and you were ordering food. The other seating was at the table games around the bar and that was all taken too. My husband also said the vibe wasn't what he was looking for so we left looking for a casino that had open seating and a better vibe. There was another spot we found in the casino to sit, we found a table behind a bar between the bar and the slot machines. It had just freed up so we grabbed it, but the wrong game was on tv and there was no sound. Maybe after they are done remodeling the set up will be better. read more

The first night we said here we staid in an older room that smelt horrible. The rest of our trip we staid in the new built tower on the second floor with pool view. The rooms are nice big vanity nice shower and pretty decor. The new pool is ok just missing a hot tub. Was hoping the maids would make our beds but all they did is take the garbage out. read more

We visited the Golden Nugget last weekend with family visiting from out of town. We have enjoyed coming here in the past, which made this experience especially disappointing. While playing slots, I sat down at one of my favorite games--one I play every time we visit--and made my usual selections without realizing the machine had a higher denomination than the other games surrounding it - $50 minimum bet per spin. I was extremely upset to discover this after the fact. A machine with a $50 minimum bet was located on the main gaming floor among machines where the minimum bet is typically around $1. A game like this is always in a separate room for gamblers that wish to play at higher stakes. When I raised my concern, staff became defensive and pointed out other machines with higher maximum bets. That completely missed the point: a machine with a $1 minimum and a high maximum is not the same as a machine where the betting starts at $50 per spin. I was also told I was not the first guest to complain about this particular machine being on the main floor, and another guest expressed frustration about it during our visit. If multiple guests are raising the same concern, management should take notice. This felt misleading and left me extremely disappointed, we won't be back. I hope Golden Nugget reviews the placement of this machine. read more

Golden Nugget is a smaller casino across the street from Harrahs. I was charging my vehicle for the way home and decided to stop in and play some slots when my vehicle charged. Pretty empty inside, only about 2 others. Very clean inside and construction was going on. The staff was all very nice and asked if i needed anything vs other casinos with no customers service. Many slots and a few table games. Nice location to stop and play and i came out a winner too! Definitely be back again. read more

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed. The rooms were dirty and 80's style. They charge you for everything. I stayed 2 nights, paid over $600 w all those BS fee's added up. The parking was $30 p/day with hardly any cars in the parking lot, don't forget the resort fee. The hotel was being remodel and still charge for resort fee, when there is no resort activities. The gym was a joke, & the pool was closed. Most of the tables in the casino was closed or no one playing. There are some slots. I was watching people feeding the machine, just kept feeding it : no pay-out. (Is like hotel California, you deposit, but no withdraw.) The Nuggets @ Vegas is much better hotel. There's a lots of other casinos / hotels in the area with better accommodation w reasonable price ... Go stay there. read more

Apart from the super slow check in and how far our room was located, our stay here had no hiccups. We got a room with King sized bed and it was spacious enough to still have a crib on the side. The crib they provided was the small, for travel type. It served its purpose so I wont complain. We opted for the newly renovated room just because it looks nicer. The only downside was it doesn't have a bathtub. Even though the hotel was located towards the end of the street, it's still convenient enough since the shops and restaurants were still within walking distance. There's a small casino downstairs and some restaurants to choose from. We ate at Saltgrass Steakhouse on our first night and had a good time. The water bottles in the room were not totally free though and the ice machine on the hallway was not working. read more

We had a horrible experience at this hotel. The hotel mistakenly cancelled my room--that I had paid for--4 days before my trip. I did not request a cancellation and still have no idea how this happened. To re-instate the reservation, I had to be charged the same amount again. They informed me I would receive a refund in 3-7 business days from the initial payment. I did not receive a refund, nor any confirmation of a refund from the hotel. Upon reaching out to customer service again after the 7th business day, they couldn't find any note of a refund. I had to report the double charge to my bank as fraud. Now onto the actual stay...our room was disgustingly dirty. There was a thick layer of dust along every surface in the entire room. It looked like the room had not been cleaned in weeks. Every piece of bedding and every single towel was filled with static. After just sitting in the bed, you would get shocked by anything you touched. There are no outlets near the bed and very minimal outlets in the room at all. Our room was supposed to be directly across from the other room in our party, and instead it was down the hall. This was after several confirmations from the hotel that it would be directly across. When we booked this room, there was a special going on for a $25 food and beverage credit per room, with 25% off the bar at the hotel. We did not receive this credit, nor did we receive any discount at the hotel. This advertisement for the credit and discount was also a complete scam. Prior to this hotel switching from Hard Rock to the Golden Nugget, it was one of our favorite places to stay. After trying it out post-switch, we will never be staying here again. read more

This was a very nice place to stay for the 4th of July weekend. Got to see fireworks from room, had a great view of the Lake from room as well. Service and friendly staff, helped with all requested needed. Great gambling options, tables, drinks and restaurants. My only gripe was getting my room right next to the elevator, ice machine and room service supply closet. Loud and drunk hotel goers at 3a-4a walking loudly n hallway, 8am traffic waiting for elevator that's loud and the cleaning service in the supply closet playing music around 8am are my only setbacks here. Next time, will make sure we are away from the middle of the floor where it gets loud at all the wrong times. But would return for a room further down the hallway. read more

Appreciate that they allowed us to check in 45 minutes early but that's about where the positivity ends. The casino and hotel are currently undergoing renovations. The room we stayed in appeared to have been renovated already but it was still in disrepair. The toilet seat was nearly falling off with very loose hardware. The heat lamp and vent fan in the bathroom were inoperable. The peep hole in the door to the hallway was missing it's cover with no other way to block it. Thankfully we were on the tenth floor because the sliding door to the balcony was nearly impossible to get to lock. Their resort fee was 31.86 after tax and they don't include parking in that fee which was an additional 22 even for hotel guests. When we went to leave our key card to get us out of the gate and off property didn't work and we had to call the front desk. Overall, I feel our stay was way overpriced. read more

It has a very nice outdoor swimming pool with rentable cabanas with TVs, and a lifeguard on duty. We enjoyed eating at saltgrass the restaurant on property and the food was delicious. There are covered and out uncovered parking options available. It is not a bad walk to shops other dining options and the beach. Beware the parking can be expensive and you're not told anything at check-in. read more

We stayed here a few weeks ago for the first time ever, and had a pretty good time. It's pretty conveniently located, next to other stores, restaurants, and casinos. There is also some good hiking nearby as well. Our room was upgraded, which was a nice surprise. The suites are so big, and have a nice view of the surrounding mountains. I like that there is a cafe located on the first floor for a quick coffee fix. The rooms have keurigs but I didn't think they worked that well. Overall good stay. It was like a 3.5-4/5 star stay. I think next time we may stay elsewhere to change it up, but this isn't a bad place to stay at all. read more

Stayed at the golden nugget on a thursday night with my wife for a quick getaway and we had a pleasant stay. There was a lot of construction going on, it looks like they working to update the north tower and much of the property. I don't have any major complaints although the A/C didn't seem to be working very well. We were staying on the 11th floor and at one point my wife turned the heat up.....we came back to the room and it had warmed up and we tried to run the air to bring the temp down and it just didn't seem to be working. Luckily we opened the window and got some cold air coming in to make it more comfortable. Room was clean and satisfactory for a basic casino hotel room and the beds were very comfortable for my taste. Bathroom was tiny but clean and functional. Dinner at the steakhouse was nice, had fun on the casino floor for a couple hours after dinner, got a few cocktails and the waitresses were very pleasant and attentive. I'd definitely stay again sometime, hope they put a hot tub in with the new renovations. read more

Bird poop all over window, bathroom door tight / hard to open, ice machine not on each floor and the one I went to on another floor wasn't working, etc. Construction going on during our visit was loud and annoying. The best pool in Tahoe, new machines, a steak house and lots of table games open even on a weekday. Looks like the renovation construction is over in main areas and its time to enjoy this beautiful new resort. When I was a kid this was the "High Sierra" then "Horizon" then "Hard Rock" and now Golden Nugget. Its got the nicest pool in all of South Lake Tahoe - its huge!! Its sandwiched between the older smaller tower and the newer tower - and that alone might be worth booking a hotel room here. The whole resort is so spacious. It's hard to explain but it was built in a time when space wasn't at such a premium and the result is lots of breathing room. Even the casino isn't crowded where you have to side step to squeeze through machines as in many CA Indian casinos. I didn't eat at the steak house yet (looks tempting) but its gorgeous. The outdoor patio space was brilliantly designed into the restaurant to maximize its use and to flow into the outdoors - which is probably why your in Lake Tahoe in the first place. Convenience is also a great aspect of this hotel. Across the street is CVS a burger place, a pizza place, a bar, another small casino, coffee spot - lots of other points of interest. Convenient short walk to the lake (not as close as Republic or Harrahs) makes this a good choice. Much better than some cabin or tent in the woods with nothing. Lots better than some similarly priced motel - value inn - but of course if you've got the money my #1 hotel choice is the executive at Harrahs. All the main areas are fully renovated - I think the rooms are still underway probably done in sections - if your very sensitive to construction noise maybe at check in ask that your room not be near any of that just in case. read more

I was a bit surprised when I saw all the bad reviews for this hotel. My experience was quite good, but we did not use the amenities much. I stayed in the sunset tower, the room was spacious and lovely. The bathroom was especially large and nice. My only complaint was that there was no water refill station. They really did a nice job remodeling the old HR rooms, however the staff appears to want to be anywhere but there. With the large investment in sprucing up the property, the casino has terrible feng shui. I will not return. Please get some people that can be happy to work in there. It was seriously a bummer from check in, to the rewards person, to the Starbucks person, to the check out lady who actually took a personal call while I was talking to her with no mention of the rudeness. I arrived at 11pm Thursday night for a conference on Friday. Booked two nights then extended. My first two nights were long days, late nights so I did not see the room in the daylight. It was a lovely suite. Dated and well used over the years. The smell of mold and chemicals on the eighth floor were so strong I had to keep the windows open my entire stay which was fine. I was glad I could open windows. The cold night air made for some great sleep. When my horror began was when I finally saw my room in the daylight. I had already taken two showers in the dark here. The bathroom had not been properly cleaned and there was multiple bio waste all over the bathroom which had never been properly cleaned. There was a power strip behind the bed dresser covered in an inch of dust bunnies. It was a fire hazard to plug in a CPAP. And my towels which I had used were covered in black material (I am presuming makeup. Which I do not wear BTW). On Saturday morning, I went to the front desk. The poor young lady was all by herself, a line well beyond the carousel, and she (like the previous other shifts I had seen) was doing the best she could given the lack of staffing. She was very professional with my concerns, offered to clean the room or change me to a much smaller room, even giving me the key to look at the room before consenting to change. I agreed to change and asked for a porter or a carriage to move my belongings. I waited for about 30 minutes in my room, door ajar. A man with a radio came in, saw the room occupied and immediately turned around, walking rapidly down the hall. No Porter. I decided this was not worth the price of admission. I ended my time in Tahoe two days earlier than planned. To their credit, they did remove the charges, attempted to accommodate me. The people at the front desk were very pleasant despite being yelled at by so many overbooked and angry customers. So much was wrong. I did not even get in to the TV not working, multiple out lights, lack of trash cans. There was no service in the room so no refreshed coffee pods and no clean towels or made bed. And the front desk was VERY concerned about the man scouting the halls and looking in rooms. She was more concerned about that than the fecal experience in the bathroom. I am glad safety was a concern. I will chock this experience up to a lack of qualified staffing, poor quality control and a business model made to get you in to gamble and drink more than a pleasant hotel experience. I hope our conference organizers do not rebook here for several years as most of us had issues with our stay. They are remodeling rooms, added a new tower. But these are not good if you do not properly maintain and clean them. read more

When I called to complain, the front desk responded with "we are short handed and can't get all the rooms clean". That is a such a BS response. It is not the customers fault that you don't have help. You are charging $600 per night and don't have adequate staffing. This place is horrible, severely understaffed. I would never recommend this property to anyone at any price. Absolutely NOT family friendly and completely disappointing experience from start to finish. The hotel is under construction (which wasn't disclose). The pool was closed, the gym was closed because they were tiling, and amenities were basically useless for families. If you're traveling with kids, save yourself the headache. The worst part? As paying hotel guests, we tried to have dinner at the sports bar with 2 adults and 5 kids who just wanted wings, burgers, and fries.. nothing crazy. First we were told we could ONLY be seated if we agreed to spend a minimum of $50 per person. After questioning that ridiculous policy, the manager came over, pretended to "check availability," and then immediately claimed there were no tables available, when the girl in front said they had a booth available if we AGREED to minimum spent. No wait list. No time estimate. No solutions. Just rejection. As paying guests.. in their own hotel. Meanwhile, we had already eaten at their steakhouse the night before, but apparently families don't matter here unless they're spending big at every meal. This place made it very clear they don't value families, don't value guests, and customer service is an afterthought. Between the construction, closed amenities, and getting turned away from a restaurant inside the hotel we paid to stay in... this was ridiculous. I would never recommend this hotel to families, and honestly, management needs a serious reset on how they treat paying guests. read more

We made reservations in January, to stay at the hotel for 10 days at a suite overlooking Lake Tahoe....when we showed up in April, the tower where our room was supposed to be is closed!!!!???? So we were offered another upgraded suite at ground level...the room featured 6 guys outside the windows cutting cement, grinding stone, etc. SOooooo we asked for another room, now they put us in a regular room BUT no discounts are available, so we are paying for a king suite with a lake view, a balcony, refrigerator, etc......and staying in a shoe box room. UPDATE. We have received a line of credit on the room, which can be used for food and beverage for $150, and the promise of delivering on our original room tomorrow. Will maintain updates and review. They have delivered today on the room we had contracted for. It must be understood that the situation is out of the control of the front desk workers. We are all dealing with the remodel, incidentally the new rooms are all brand new and very nice. We will finish this post at the end of our stay. read more

Pros: we only stayed here two nights. And then we checked into our very expensive Airbnb. Truthfully, I wish our entire group had decided to book here for the week. It's cheap and we were in the sunset tower. And Sunset tower has all new renovated rooms. The rooms were so nice. Cons: they were little things we didn't like about the hotel. But it was so cheap. It was easy to overlook. Housekeeping is only available upon request. That is so annoying. The girl at the front desk didn't tell me about that and so we didn't get housekeeping during our stay. If someone knocked on a door in our hallway, we could hear it at night. But then we didn't hear any other sounds from other people except them opening and closing their doors. As others had mentioned, the parking situation was so annoying. They gave us a key that would work in the parking lot and it never did. We would have to call the parking attendant. And parking attendant was always so rude. They would try to talk us through how to use the key on the keypad and there was a huge sign that said "place key here" that's what we were already doing. Speaking of rude people, the front desk people at the hotel are so annoying. Anytime day or night, if I had a question it always felt like the same rude girl. Most of the hotel and casino are under renovation so the restaurant I wanted to eat at was closed. There was little stuff like the lamp by my bedside was missing a screw and so I would have to like remove knob covers to turn on and off the light. read more

Not actually cheap per night because of other fees not included in the nightly price. We decided to give the Golden Nugget the benefit of the doubt even after reading a bunch of negative reviews--however the negative reviews were justified during our stay especially the hidden charges that were mentioned in a lot of the reviews I found. Before I go over the negative experience that we had, I do want to say that the room itself was okay--it's an old hotel so the restroom and room was a little outdated as expected--we were put in a double queen with a lake view as we requested and enjoyed the room. I saw reviews of people complaining about the centralized heater but we didn't mind it because we were able to open the sliding doors however there was an evening when we smelled weed coming from the outside and had to close the window and there was no screen so we had some little bugs come in which we didn't mind too much (the weed was definitely something we didn't like). Again, bathroom was standard but an hour after we checked in, I noticed that there was about an inch long chipped on the bottom corner of the mirror and when I showered the tub wasn't draining well so the water was just pooling in the tub which didn't feel sanitary. The next morning we called in and were told that maintenance will be right up. We waited about an hour and no maintenance so we left our room and the maintenance guy showed up at 9pm. Fixed it quickly which was nice! Since I read reviews I asked for an itemized receipt and to our surprise we were charged $2 for each water bottles even though when I called in soon after we checked in I specifically asked if there was going go be extra charge for water bottles and was told no therefore I asked for a couple of bottles to be sent up. I travel quite a bit so it's a habit to bring a gallon of water to the hotel with me so I wouldn't have asked for those water bottles if I was told they were charging extra. I also tried calling on the landline during our stay and was charged $6 per call even though the calls didn't go thru??? Every time we went outside they were doing construction on the back exit to the parking lot which seemed like a health hazard because they were tearing down ceilings and you can literally see workers with a mask on probably for asbestos but no warnings for guests whatsoever! Again...these all could be standard to the hotel but it was just very disappointing that information weren't disclosed during check-in such as how much the resort fees and parking fees will be (pool was closed nothing was a resort about the hotel). Golden Nugget can be better by being more transparent about what guest will be spending their money on and how much charge they should be expecting. Safety signs for construction areas should be apparent and maybe when hazardous work is being done, close off area so guests aren't exposed to unsafe and health hazard areas. We were also very disappointed at how dismissive Lance was to our concerns upon check out and had to put our foot down to get our money back for the water charges which he did remove eventually but he had a very apathetic attitude and didn't apologize for our concerns. I booked through trivago for a one night stay. I drove 4 hrs to the hotel as we booked this night because there was a concert we were attending. when I arrive she took my id and my phone number and confirmed my reservation. she then charged my card $225 and said it was a cleaning and room deposit and that it would go back on my car 6-7 business days after check out. then proceeded to make me a room key but then stops. she then asks to see my ID again and then asked if I had the reservation with a different name I said no and then pulled up my reservation on my email and showed her. she then she said I'm not showing anything and that I would have to contact the third party to get my money back for the canceled reservation I said I didn't cancel it though ? She gets the manager he comes out and said I cancled the reservation and I would need to contact trivago to get my money back and I said I didn't cancel it and you just charged my card $225 14 min ago ??? Then he looked at her and asked why she took payment for a completely different reservation. Refunded the $225 and said we are completely sold out for the night there was nothing he could do for me. We checked in on October 16, 2025. We were on 11th floor, lake side. We had a great experience! Excellent front desk staff, phone personnel (Kimberly) and room service attendant. Elevators are the best! Fast and reliable but with loud beeping lol. Hotel coffee shop staff in the lobby are very friendly and accommodating. In the coffee shop, I met one of the hotel front desk staffs (I guess). She's a white elder lady (forgot her name). She was very nice and sweet. Even though she was on break or just getting her cup of coffee, she still showed excellent customer service... She took note of my concern and took care of the issues. Located on Stateline, next to Harvey's, is the Golden Nugget. This used to be the Hard Rock, but the Golden Nugget purchased them. The Gaming Floor and Check-in are nice. The elevators always have problems, usually only have one running. Lines, lines, lines. The rooms are exactly the same as they were before, desperately in need of renovations. The pool was dirtier than before. The parking structure elevators seem to be the original from back when it was the horizon. During the day we saw young kids near the pool area past 9 o'clock with no security insight, one child even got up on the lifeguard tower. Multiple nights, kids were yelling off the balconies past 9 o'clock. There seemed to be a person in their 20s that was sleeping out in a cabana, two nights in a row.
