I have yet to have a bad meal at Golden Ox. They FEED you here, meaning no skimpy portions. Ive eaten here so many times, I was here when the previous tenant, Bobs Burgers was here. In fact, I ate here when this place was Del Taco, and before that, NAUGLES! Im so old, I remember watching the building being constructed. Typical burger joint, nothing too special. They did the fries exactly how we wanted: crispy and extra seasoning... Which was awesome. The burger was just the normal run of the mill burger, nothing special or standing out about it. Service was decent, pretty friendly and inviting for the most part. Location was clean and bright but a bit outdated feeling. But what killed it for me was... Charging $1 for a side of dressing, and it was one of those small paper cups, not even a bigger cup.. We have gone to this spot off and on for a couple of years. It's a clean place and good food for a decent price. Never had a problem until a couple of days ago. We ordered chili fries and came home. There was a 4 inch long hair in the chili!!! So gross. I called to let them know and the person that answered stated no problem, just bring them back for a new order! The food is fine, and the employees are friendly, but the wait time and policies are atrocious. The drive thru will take you twenty five minutes if there are only three cars in it, and they charge you for a cup of water. 25 cents for tap water?! Great food comes out of this little place. I splurged tonight and tried their Ribeye Steak Sandwich. And it was one of the tastiest sandwiches I've ever had. It was absolutely fantastic! We used to live in this area but now we are several miles away. That doesn't stop me from driving over there and grabbing dinner once every couple of weeks. Drive-through service has improved, too. Now the person repeats everything, says "please" and "thank you" and is generally a pleasure. It hasn't always been this way, but it's refreshing. They told me their favorite (steak sandwich) and some best selling items (the golden ox burger--a triple cheeseburger with avocado). I got a steak sandwich with added avocado (best of both worlds) Great quality. Not dry. Avocado was EXTREMELY fresh. I loved coming here with my wife. We are in our early twenties. I love these old style diners. This place is in front of the grace korean church and has served as a quick meeting spot for many after church. I have also frequented this place but am writing the review this late. It is a little expensive, but who doesn't love good old eggs and ham breakfast and a large breakfast burrito with warm coffee? Gone Downhill after New Ownership This place used to be so good. I have now twice forgotten that it's under new management. It's now higher prices for worse food. Their fried zucchini and pastrami sandwich used to be legendary, now they are just pricy. The old zucchini was clearly fresh, tender but with a juicy snap to it, crispy coating, and fresh Parmesan grated on top, where it melted beautifully. I was craving those thick zucchini spears yesterday and hit their drive-thru. The zucchini is hot, I'll give them that. But the coating is now more like cardboard than crispy breadcrumbs, and the zucchini itself is mushy and super watery, obviously frozen beforehand. The parking lot was clean the outside of the building was clean. A little bit of a line to order but it went fast. I ordered the patty melt and the combo. The patty mayo came out fantastic bread was toasted meat was hot and the Pepsi was very good. However the french fries came out very lukewarm at best. And no one came to check to see if our food was good or not. They forgot my ranch and A1 steak sauce so I went to ask for it. The music was playing pretty loudly and not very good music was a little bit of a distraction. Customers are not allowed to use the restroom because of Covid restrictions so the sign says. I know this is a little long but please read it. My family and I have been long time customers of the Golden Ox on Brookhurst/Commonwealth in Fullerton. We've been going there since the older couple owned/managed this location. They new how to treat customers and respected their opinion. About a month ago I bought 3 breakfast burritos at about 10 am. When I arrived at my destination (about a mile and a half from the restaurant) we took a bite and noticed that they were really dry. My brother suggested opening the burritos up and pouring the salsa (from Golden Ox) inside the burritos. Upon taking the first bite (after adding the salsa) we all noticed that the salsa was WAY over salted. It tasted like they had emptied the salt shaker in the salsa. I called the restaurant and spoke with an employee. She tasted the salsa from the morning and said that it was so salty that it was inedible. Another employee tried the salsa and said "Eww, that's nasty" (I could hear her through the phone). Needless to say we bought breakfast burritos at Farmer Boys (it was on the way to where we were going) and the burritos were delicious. I went back to the Golden Ox the next day and just missed the manager/owner (which is one in the same). I spoke to an employee who took down my number to give to the owner. When I finally spoke to the owner he wouldn't reimburse the $ or replace the 3 burritos. I was not looking for free food after spending literally thousands at the Golden Ox through the years. By the time I spoke with the owner the burritos had already been thrown away. He new that his employees had to throw away the salsa because it was so bad. I'm appalled that after making Burger Comboseveral attempts to speak to him in person (while spending more money there to buy food for my family) that he would think that I was asking for free food!! So my family and I will no longer eat there unless I get a phone call from the owner with an apology for his bad customer service and willing to replace what I paid for or reimburse me for what I ended up paying which was a little over $30 for the 3 breakfast burritos and a beverage. read more

Sometimes I just want a quick no frills breakfast but without the long wait. Golden ox is just that. A good solid breakfast. Eggs just the way I want, the steak is seasoned well, hash browns golden and buttery, and the English muffins toasted just right and still soft in the middle. When it comes to the food I couldn't ask for more. Prices are normal for this area, breakfast plates range between $5-7, the steak and eggs about $10. They have daily specials for breakfast and lunch/ dinner. Since this place is in my neighborhood, I come by for breakfast often, but if there was one thing I would change it would be their policy on egg whites. They charge $1.50 more when I order just egg whites. That is pretty steep. Also, they charge 35 cents to use a credit card. So when I swing by for a breakfast muffin with egg whites, I end up paying almost $2 more. Overall, the food is good. Sometimes there can be a little bit of a language barrier with the ladies behind the counter. There is plenty of parking. I'd recommend this spot for breakfast. Check it out. read more

I have not eaten at Golden Ox for a long time. I was in the mood for pastrami and decided to give it another try. I used the drive through. The menu prices were not legible so I needed to ask prices. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and onion rings. The price with tax was over $15 dollars, quite high. The sandwich was mediocre with low quality beef and roll. They do give a huge amount of pastrami. The onion rings were decent but not great. Maybe their hamburgers are better but for these prices I would expect a good sandwich. The onion rings lacked crispiness. The service was excellent and I gave a $2.00 tip. For $15 and change I can eat at many sit down restaurants and have a much better meal. Not really a huge fan of this place..I have one next to my work and my house. I went here today and they have a drive thru so we decided to make it quicker by just driving thru. When you pull up the speaker is at the end of the menu versus the middle like most. So you have to pull up all the way to the end to order and look back at the menu if you are still unsure of what you want. Drive thru does take a while to wait for food. I ordered the taquito plate that came with rice and beans. I liked the taquitos, they could have had more meat in them. They give you a side of red Salas which was good and a side of sour cream and guacamole. It was a big size guacamole so I liked that and didnt run out. The rice and beans were okay. Rice was a little hard. I paid $9 which I felt was too high for taquitos. Looking at the whole menu everything was pricey. My friend got the club sandwich with chili cheese fries. The fries were good just a little too greasy. I have been to better burger joints where i can get better food for this price. I never crave Golden Ox and probably still won't. Ok I don't know how this place earned even anything close to 3 stars. I went to go pick up a quick bite to eat for dinner to bring home for myself and the fam. I always drive by this place and have always wanted to try it . So I looked up this place on yelp and said why the hell not, I only live a mile or so away. I drive up to the drive thru menu board and noticed the speaker box is actually at the end of the menu, meaning if you have a big order and you have to go back to the menu, good luck, you're gonna strain your neck. Also, I couldn't comprehend a damn thing that was coming out of that speaker box, but I managed to order 2 cheeseburgers, a side of fries, and a 4 piece chicken dinner. I pull forward and notice that there is already someone at the window waiting for their food. That's funny I thought, I didn't notice any vehicle pulling up to the drive thru before I had, nor did I see them pull forward after inputting their order. That only means, he's been waiting there for a while. Maybe he had a big order I told myself. I see the man get his food, and he only got a small paper bag, assuming that he got himself a burger and fries. He leaves and I pull up, the total comes out to about $22. A little expensive for a couple of cheeseburgers and a chicken plate, but whatever. The cashier takes my money and I wait. I wait and wait and wait. I think I was there at the window for at least 15 minutes. Funny thing is, there were no other cars behind me, not surprised seeing as how long it takes to get your food through the drive thru. I finally got my food and drove home. The aromas emanating from the bag smelled nice. I was excited to try this new burger place. I get home and start to unravel everything and noticed that she hooked it up with a lot of ketchup! That's nice of them I thought. I open up the box with the chicken, fries, onion rings, and zucchini, and notice that the pieces of chicken are literally the smallest pieces of chicken I have ever seen. The apparent "breast" was the size of a thigh at KFC. The leg, was the size of a hot wing at KFC. The wing was so small and burnt, it was barely edible. What was this? Fried chicken for ants!??!?! I guess the chicken must have not been too bad, because my dad dug in like there was no tomorrow. Then I tried one of the onion rings, and it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The onion inside was so shriveled and dry, that I thought I was eating the skin of the onion. HOW DO YOU MESS UP ONION RINGS?!!?! I tried the fried zucchini, and it wasn't too bad, and the steak fries were actually decent. Then I went and opened up my cheeseburger and it looked appetizing. I was wrong. The beef patty just didn't look right. It was an off color brown, with what appeared to be charred grill marks, but it just didn't look right. I took a bite, and the meat just had a rubbery and slippery texture, almost like it wasn't actually ground beef. And why was the beef patty so paper thin??!! Maybe because they don't want you to actually taste their nasty ass beef patties. I'd take McDonald's hamburgers over this thing. Again, I ask, HOW DO YOU MESS UP A FREAKING CHEESEBURGER!??!! That's like the backbone of your burger joint. I can confidently say, I will never come back here again. But if you do plan to go, don't bother with the drive thru, just walk inside.
