Our group of 12 people came back again for brunch. Some people opted for breakfast, and others had lunch items. The Chicken Fried Steak was particularly good. It was served with two eggs, hash browns, and toast. A few of our group had omelets which they really liked. Our server was Taylor, and she did a great job of keeping all the orders straight. Busy place, but that's usually a good indication! Breakfast was very good, waitress friendly. My only complaint is it was incredibly slow to check out. We stopped in for breakfast while we were in town for a family function. The restaurant is located in New Middletown. It is very clean inside and the servers were friendly and efficient. The breakfast menu had a lot of variety. I ordered the breakfast biscuit sandwich with home fries. The home fries were okay they could have been seasoned a little bit more. The biscuit sandwich was very good. Someone at our table ordered the pancakes and they were huge and delicious. My wife ordered the eggs and toast and The breakfast was well prepared and tasty. A little off the beaten path but if you're looking for someplace to go for a nice morning drive and meal I would recommend it. read more

Got golden rye as a take out order and the staff was friendly, BUT I had the worst breakfast I have ever ordered. My eggs were not even cooked, the hash browns were raw and had zero taste. The cinnamon roll was hard as a rock and cold. The biscuits and gravy would have been good if the biscuit wasn't terrible. Also, my sons omelet tasted watery and not good. Went for Sunday Breakfast and seating and service were prompt, even though they were quite busy! We received delicious hot coffee within fume minutes of being seated! Our party of four looked over the one page well organized breakfast menu! Our friendly waitress promptly returned to take our orders, however, one of our party needed a bit more time! Sometimes a death sentence when ordering, but not here! Our waitress came to our table within four minutes of giving us additional time! Once we ordered, second cups of coffee or top offs were frequent and in perfect time to allow our party a nice amount of conversation! Within 12 minutes, all four orders arrived hot and exactly what we ordered! Everyone enjoyed their food and additional check-ins were timed perfectly! We had plenty of time for that delicious third cup of coffee! When we were completely finished with our breakfast, the waitress brought our check to our table and surprisingly asked us if it would be one bill or separate checks( pretty rare sometimes), we said one bill and paid at a checkout near the entrance/ exit! Lack of brunches on a Saturday offered in our area promoted this find. Although, a mimosa is my drink of choice w brunch there is no alcohol served here. I noticed the hours are until 2 pm and we arrived around 12:30 to prompt seating and service. I love their shout out to the history of the town and the reason for the name. Yes, I read the wall articles and the back of the menu. Then there's the food! Steak and eggs for me, eggs bacon for my guy and the special French toast to share. Don't pass up the real potatoes-they're not deep fried gross chunks-they're sliced thin and cooked. Homemade!! Everything was delicious. As for the mimosas, stopped before and after to get that in. We have come here for a couple years now after a week of family vacation in PA. The staff is great but the coffee is very watery and after a week of drinking, we always look forward to a good cup. The wait is usually pretty long to get our food and the food is just mediocre. The gravy is pretty good with a good amount of flavor but overall, nothing too exciting. Out of town looking for a good place to eat breakfast. This is it!!! Awesome breakfast. Eggs were fresh.. French Toast was delicious. Saw the table next to us order these huge blueberry muffins that looked so good. Totally recommend this place and will be back. As we continue our "audition" of breakfast places in the Mahoning Valley, my husband and I visited Golden Rye for Sunday breakfast. The restaurant was pretty busy which is to be expected for a Sunday but we were seated quickly and our orders taken. We waited quite awhile for our food and when it came (or so we thought) my corned beef hash with eggs over easy was missing the hash with home fries on the plate instead! The waitress took mine away and left my husband's omelet on the table. Fortunately he did not touch it as she came back a couple minutes later saying this was not our order at all and whisked his omelet over to a table across the room. Since he had not touched the food I suppose this was ok but if I had been on the receiving end of the transaction I am not so sure I would have thought so. Better to leave him with the wrong plate and make a new one for the other table! Once we finally got our food, my hash was "ok" but not great. It is homemade from scratch whereas I prefer to have hash from a can that is doctored up with fresh taters, onions, etc. We'll put this one in our weekend rotation but it likely won't be our "go to" place. read more

Huge disappointment. Party of 6 and we didn't see the first meal for an hour, then we only got 2 orders of the 6, 10 min later a 3rd arrived. Half the party ate and finished before the (very kind) waitress came out and told us they lost the ticket! Ok mistakes happen, finally the other meals started showing up an additional 20 min later for the very patient 3 year old, and her (9 month pregnant) mother. But wait.... Where's Dad's breakfast?!?! Apparently forgotten about!! Fast forward 10 min dad finally gets his French toast. What a joke!! We all had to eat separately, you would think a responsible and caring manager would come and speak with us right?? Nope, wife had to ask to speak with him and was then left standing in the entrance for 10 min before she gave up and sat down. Then finally the "manager" came out, (never apologized) and told my wife he "will cover the bill, that's all" and walked away. Needless to say we won't be back and I'll make it a point to tell any family and friends to avoid the place like cancer. I did notice the the so called manager was Brad from Brad's towing, not sure if Brads Towing is still in business? I can certainly understand if it isn't, but just to be safe, if in fact it is don't do business with them either! read more

I got the French toast and it was absolutely amazing, it was the best I have ever had. The food was good and the serving sizes were a decent portion. I was impressed that the eggs even came out over-medium, as requested - a lot of places seem to have trouble with that. Next time I'm out this way, I will definitely stop in again. Unfortunately the Golden Rye was a disappointment. We were there on a Sunday, arrived around 11:30. They had a good crowd but we were seated quickly. We got a lot of attention from wait staff and others. Coffee, coffee and more coffee. They had to as it took almost 50 minutes to get our meal. Only two of us. Another couple sitting near us had left before their meal came out after we had been there twenty minutes so we had an idea what was in store of us. The food was OK, nothing to right home about. My girl's home fries were only warm not hot. Kitchen speed is clearly an issue here. Wanted to like the place but I doubt if we ever go back. read more

The food is VERY BLAND (most likely to cater to the crowd of retirees) there's better places that you can go to, but not in tiny New Middletown. Amazing breakfast! Started with the cinnamon bun which is clearly made on the premises: light and fluffy with copious amounts of delicious frosting. I had the breakfast burrito which was excellent (the eggs, peppers, onions, etc were all mixed together resulting in balanced bites every time ). My husband had the croissant sandwich which was great as well. They both came with sides of breakfast potatoes which were extremely thinly sliced and nicely crispy. The biggest surprise came with the bill which was unbelievably reasonable! Delicious food, friendly and attentive staff and reasonable prices. We are from New Hampshire but will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again. read more

A restaurant can have great food but customer service is what makes a dining experience worth it. The owner of this location gave our pre-reserved table of 18 away to another group on Mother's Day morning and her explanation and solution to my mother and two sisters celebrating was "oops, sorry!" No heartfelt apology, effort to fix the situation or anything. I understand people make mistakes but it's your reaction to a situation that defines you. In this case it was poor customer service and lack of manners. To say the least our family will not be returning. read more

I've been searching for a place locally that serves amazing eggs benedict. Unfortunately eggs benedict isn't on the menu at Golden Rye, but it is a phenomonal local gem! I had the french toast and it was delightful! It's an ideal place to bring family for a special breakfast. Haven't tried the lunch here, but the breakfast was amazing!!! read more
