At first I was thinking I don't know how they're getting away with selling canned sardines as their menu, but my god I loved it here. We were bar hopping around the area and just needed a quick bite, so we didn't get any wine here but will definitely be back for that as it is technically a wine bar haha. The pate and goat cheese pairing was recommended to me by the server, who said she liked it because they were easy to spread on the bread. She was right! It was kind of fun to diy the perfect bite every time with a bit of pate, cheese, jam, and chasing it with some picked veg. Not only am I going through a sardine fixation, but a whole bar in the Main Street of North Beach has an incredible open, airy, bar serving incredible wine, vibes and SARDINES!! I popped it on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon with friends and had wine, devoured a plate of sardines and yapped. There was a large table for 6 of us upstairs and overall an impeccable experience for an immaculate day. I don't really know why I'd wind down and not give it 5 stars? It depends what you're looking for at the end of the day but it wasn't overly crowded t goodness, the people at the bar tag teamed to handle order (just 2-3 people) and there was a constant flow of tables coming and going? Please please please do yourself a favor and visit this beautiful gem. I found this place on Tik Tok and people were saying it was an SF must. I came here with a group of friends for my birthday back in October with crutches and mind you any other place may have been annoyed by that but they were super accommodating. We sat at the bar, and the server was super friendly, they even suggested an amazing white wine I still dream about that was perfectly balanced and not dry at all. It was exactly what I envisioned for my birthday, they made my Parisian/Spanish wine bar dreams come to life. I felt transported from SF even if it was just for an hour. The Compte cheese on the meat and cheese platter is so good def get that! I'm not a fan of sardines but my friends are and they really enjoyed them. There's seating outside and upstairs, it's perfect and cozy. I've been twice since my birthday and I never have a bad time. This was my second visit to Golden Sardine, and it's quickly becoming a favorite. Such a charming addition to North Beach--a cozy poetry bookstore tucked inside a wine bar. We shared a bottle of Riesling, and I really appreciate that they let you taste wines before committing--it makes the experience feel thoughtful and approachable. The smoked trout and the squid were great (from a tin). The warm bread with pickled accompaniments was a great touch, though when we asked for more, it took a while to arrive and wasn't warm the second time around. Still enjoyable, just not quite as special as the first round. Golden Sardine works just as well for a relaxed afternoon glass as it does for a cozy evening out. The sparkling red by the glass was perfect, and the upstairs seating gave a great vantage point for watching the neighborhood. Visited on a Sunday around 2:30pm with a friend. The bar was quite busy already but might be due to their 1st year anniversary party which we happened to catch. We ordered at the bar and were able to grab one of the outdoor patio tables which was great. Drink: A nice variety of wines by the glass with an emphasis on Riesling. We ordered a few glasses of whites to try, these were served nice and chilled, nice size pours. Food: Spicy Tin Mussels - delicious nice and spicy, canned in oil, mussels were tender with a creamy texture, served with some warmed baguette slices and pickles which provided a nice contrast along with a wedge of lemon Service was fine, took a few minutes to place the order with the server. Once we placed orders glasses were poured and served quickly and a number was provided for the food which we placed at our table for food service. Overall really enjoyed Golden Sardine, was such a fun spot for a glass of wine and a snack. The live poetry performance to celebrate their anniversary really added to the experience and was such a a treat. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the North Beach neighborhood. read more

Really overhyped. Wasn't my favorite. It gets really crowded on the weekends and it becomes near impossible to order your food/drinks. You go to the counter and wait, and I made eye contact with the waiter behind the counter who told me he'd be right with me. I ended up waiting quite a while before I ordered. When the tinned fish came, it was pretty underwhelming, and the bread was nothing special - way too hard. The ambiance was super cute though! If I came here again I'd just get drinks. read more

A really cute and cozy wine bar with a charming Spanish flair - sardines, tinned fish, cheese, and a great selection of Rieslings (my fav!). This bar is small so it feels intimate but is appropriate for first dates. The first floor is quite tight so it might be costly to your neighbors to canoodle but perhaps if you snag a wall corner seat? Apparently there's also second floor but I didn't go up so will have to revisit. I really liked the 2023 Feinherb Mosel Riesling - it was dry but full body and very balanced. Highly recommend. Tatomer was also good but slightly less full bodied. Overall a great date spot with dim lighting and European flair so def try to snag a seat. read more

Excellent selection of wine by the glass or bottle. Small, but atmospheric. Outstanding selection of Rieslings of all types (dry to sweet) with great US, German, and other producers all represented. Plenty of other varietals as well with some areas of unique strength (a nice selection of sherry for instance). Solid prices. Super nice people too who are *really* knowledgeable about wine. Golden Sardine is relatively new and already making waves despite being down the street from one of SF's most sought after wine bars - Bodega. Golden Sardine is a little more relaxed and rustic than most, which is why I enjoy it. You can find poetry and art lining the walls as you sip on unique wine and chat with the staff, many of whom are locals. This place gets pretty busy though and isn't huge space-wise so I'd recommend this spot for groups of 1-4 interested in catching up over some great wine and good music / ambiance. read more

AMAZING experience! The ambiance at Golden Sardine is fantastic - it's small, cozy, almost European wine bar feeling. The wines themselves are interesting and I loved the skin contact wine I tried. We went Friday at 6, which was when there was a poetry reading (they do First Fridays readings on the second floor) and the poets were outstanding.
