Everyone working here is sooo friendly which is a big plus and they usually have everything I need for any dinner I'm making when I'm missing an item. Everything from enchiladas sauce, wine, fresh produce and even cleaning supplies. I feel fortunate to be so close to such a gem. read more

Great customer service, good prices. They have a meat market, produce and specialty Latin items like queso fresco by the pound, plantain chips, Mexican candies, and Salvadorian quesadilla bread. They are so nice and helpful every single time which you especially don't expect from a little neighborhood grocery store. They have lots of things you can get in a hurry at decent prices. I hope they read this: I will never forget that one time I had to go get bananas for my mom with my baby in a stroller. My dad had recently passed and I was feeling overwhelmed. I paid and the nice guy at the register helped me by opening the door so my stroller could pass. Little things that are big things set them apart. There is something special about little Mom and Pop operations that makes them still quite relevant. Today in a day where your major supermarkets are trying to adapt and have options you normally could only find at these smaller businesses. These little operations are like the "Little Engines that Could" they think they can, and guess what.....they are doing it! And the Golden Star Market isn't no exception. Here is my review. Sunday 1-31-15 last day of January, after a great day at church, I was feeling lucky and wanted to pick up some scratchers....BTW..I still haven't scratched them so IDK if I won..well back to the point, my mother mentioned that she wanted to come and pick up some marinated meats for tacos. We both heard through the grapevine that this place has awesome marinated meats, even better than some of the....major competition around (Mi Pueblo, La Superior, Don Pepe ect) So we arrived and of course like most businesses down 10th St in downtown Pittsburg, you had your hoodlums out there smokin them tweeds (weed, marijuana) and drinkin 40oz's we didn't bother them. Just gave them the homie G nod's and went inside. But me being a Yelper of course I had to take me pics before I went in and one of the hoodlums said "You must be one of those Yelp Mofakuaz Huh? Takin picz and shit" I laughed and noded and then went inside. (BTW) I wasn't at all threatened. The inside of this place is very clean and precise, I mean everything was on point. I've seen bigger supermarkets that doesn't look as precise than this place, kudos on that! We made our way to the meat counter and we were alittle early, they were just setting up, but that didn't discourage us, we just went to the nicely stocked refrigerated and grabbed some sodas and made our way to the snacks and grabbed some goodies and made our way to the counter. We both seen the well stocked spirits behind the cleark and I figured....Why not get me a small bottle of gin! So I did, and the price was pretty good too! In conclusion, this market is in downtown Pittsburg off 10th St as I mentioned earlier, right near the old pittsburg high school building and right down the street from now booming downtown Pittsburg. This place is pretty nice, it's been here for a while. I remember seeing this place here even when I was younger. Of course there is the hoodlum and hobo factor here at this point, but don't let that detour you, this place will surprise you indeed. These guys are wonderful. They really care about the community. They hold regular food drives where they mobilize some of their suppliers to and customers to donate to help those in need. They have been helpful, especially in these Covid-19 times. My family and I moved to the neighborhood from Oakland, where we knew every business in our neighborhood. I went to Golden star market yesterday, and one of the cashiers was very rude. I was in there, given them my business buying things and the guy kept saying you again you again you come in here too much you're you're supposed to be at work and I wasn't even on my shift yet and I was coming in between my work shifts with Crossing Guard and he kept saying you again you again you come in here too much you're buying too many scratcher you again you're wasting money you're you're blowing money you're blowing money very rude, I will never go to that store ever again they lost my business. They shouldn't even get one star. They are very bad customer service people it's a Mexican store and they have very bad customer service. He doesn't need to be working there. This place needs to be shut down or be compensated for all the stuff they caused I do not recommend this convenience store to nobody they don't deserve to be open. They need to be shut down with how bad customer services very very mean people I will never come here ever again and I don't recommend anybody do. read more

They have a ton of parking. The place is also not that small. They have a large meat section. It's not bad for a local spot in Pittsburg. The people who work there are super helpful. They have a lot of drinks to pick from and a large selection of chips. They have a small selection of produce. It's a small market but they are really fast here. I love this place!! I have been coming here for about five years now. Everyone is nice and they have a pretty good selection of food and beverages. They sell alcohol (beer, wine, and spirits- reason I say this is because the other two markets in proximity only sell beer and wine, not liquor). They have a meat department and chicken is always fresh. I haven't bought meat but I'm assuming it's good. If you need some produce, they got you too. The selection varies but you can find apples, avocados, bananas, onions, papayas,tomatoes, pumpkins ( right now since it's October) and other fruits and vegetables. Their prices are pretty reasonable so I do shop here occasionally when I don't feel like heading out to the supermarket. They also sell lottery tickets, so you can pick up your scratchers. They don't have slips for lottery so you can only quick pick as far as I know. They also have a machine to check your lotts beside the entrance. They also sell toiletries, tp, and just about everything.. They also give you a receipt like the supermarket does, everything itemized with the price, if that gives you peace of mind when doing a good amount of shopping. They have helped out a lot in the community so that's a definite plus in my book!! read more

Golden Star is just as friendly as the need to be. They do not go above and beyond to help you and the customer is not right even if hey are. There are a couple of employees there that are just down right rude. Was in the store last night a customer was looking for something they did not have it customer was asking where she could find it another customer proceeded to tell her and when he went to pay for his things they told the gentleman customer don't ever tell a customer where to buy something. Uhmmm, idiot he doesn't work for the store he can say and tell anyone he wants where to find something especially if you don't have it. Have you heard of freedom of speech. People do it everyday. I have even heard store managers employees owners tell a customer where they can find something if you don't carry it.
