I went to Aliyah at GSS and she was amazing! I actually went in for a consultation because I was bored of my natural hair color and wanted something fun for summer. We went through the consultation process with me, then she went the extra mile and did a partial lightening on my front pieces just to make sure I wanted to go through with the full thing. The goal is to lighten my hair over a period of time instead of all at once, which she was completely onboard with. We scheduled another appointment for the following week to go even lighter all around my hair. I went in the next week and was offered a beverage while I waited. Aliyah took me in less than 5 minutes and we spent the next 6 hours together. That might sound excessive, but I came in with thick, curly, fluffy, never-dyed-before hair. We were both ready for a nap by the end, and I didn't even do anything! Even though 6 hours is long, we chatted the whole time (when I wasn't falling asleep with my head in the sink lol). She's so sweet and consistently checked in with me to back sure I was comfortable. It's safe to say I love my hair and I'm ready for summer, all thanks to Aliyah! I can't wait for my next appointment with her! Two pieces of advice: - If you have curly hair, straightening it before your appointment makes the foiling process quicker and easier for you and your hair stylist! -Bring a snack if you have a lot of hair. I cannot recommend Golden State Strands enough, especially Emilia! I came in on 12/12/25, the day before my engagement party, and she absolutely nailed it. I got a trim and a gloss to darken my hair, and Emilia was so thoughtful and intentional throughout the entire process. She really listened to what I wanted, explained everything clearly, and made sure the color looked rich, healthy, and natural, exactly what I was hoping for. The styling alone was chef's kiss. Emilia Yoell is an incredible stylist! She is warm, welcoming, personable and yet amazingly focused on the job. Her attention to detail is a whole other level! Alyssa at this salon has been doing my hair for probably around a decade. I drive almost two hours each way when I need my hair done because it's Alyssa or no one. I have finer thin hair and she transforms it in a few hours. I let her decide what is done and I'm always thrilled and walk out with a style that's age and profession appropriate. I'm going to be doing extensions with her very soon. With fine hair, I can't wait to see what she does. Side note.... I've started noticing more grays coming in and didn't want to do full coverage color yet, so we decided to add highlights to help blend everything together. I'm SO glad we did! The highlights were placed perfectly to soften the grays and make them look intentional instead of noticeable. It doesn't look like I'm trying to "cover" anything -- just brighter, more dimensional, and refreshed. It's such a great option if you're not fully gray but starting to see more come in. The grow-out looks natural and it's way lower maintenance than solid color. When I found Emilia a couple of weeks ago, there were a ton of people getting extensions. This is something I've always wanted but never actually researched it, thinking it was for young uns . Alyssa Hare is AMAZING!! I've been seeing her for years and love her so much that I make the 2 hour drive from El Dorado Hills just to see her! She's a hair magician and a true artist. Not to mention the hair she uses (her own brand) is incredible quality. I'm extension obsessed so we always do 1-2 rows of hand tied extensions and I ask her for lived in color which grows out seamlessly to keep my maintenance at a minimum and she does a beautiful job every time! Emilia (Mia) has been cutting my hair ever since she was in Fremont. She was very comforting when I asked her to shave off all my hair because I was going through chemo treatments. She made me feel beautiful during a time I felt not beautiful. I've never had a pixie style haircut, but when Mia gave me a pixie haircut, I loved it. Emilia is one of the most talented hair stylists I've met! She is genuine and kind, and makes you feel so comfortable.
