This is my first ever review on Yelp, but this isn't the first time I have received amazing customer service from Rowena Lee before! I used to come here with my mom for glasses and she was always there to assist us with her knowledge and expertise. Now that I am responsible for my own eye glass care and needs, seeing Lee again brung familiarity again! She was so helpful and considerate on my first visit by myself! She helped me find what I needed for my eyeglass lens and helped me find the perfect frame for them considering the day to day activities and work I do and the difficulties I have with my older pair. Everything was streamline and she offered such amazing support that should not be overlooked! Thank you Rowena Lee for your amazing help and service and I will come back whenever I need my glasses! I'm here today again lol sitting here letting the world know how always great experience I have here with only giving 5 stars to only 2 staff members: Rowena and Hugo. :) I drive from so far away (an hour to and another hour back making it 2 hours in total) from my home beaches to get here. And I decided to get their super cool black framed small aviator shape Chrome Hearts glasses instead :) Hugo is fantastic with his patient help and politeness the whole time to me. Love that. Highly recommend Hugo and Rowena who are my fav people here. Haha :) I'm just not a fan of the manager here who is too strict to me for no reason when every customer is different. Whatever payment beef that the manager here had in the past due to other customers in the ways they paid you, does not reflect on me. I have only arrived recently after those past certain customers to only give my money to you here, manager. I don't appreciate you being quite appallingly strict to me with your so called new policy on how customers need to/should pay you/your company here. How I can't Zelle your company to pay because I can't be driving out here when I'm coming from the Manhattan Beach area. Unless you want to pay for my gas, manager. Would rather give them 0 star. 1. Push us pay $$$ to extra exam which is not necessary at all which I never heard in any other places. Because they want to make $$$. 2. Most of the stuffs are rude, racists. One bob hair lady in the check in desk is very mean when we checked in, always have a mad face. A old lady is very RUDE, couldn't believed the other review, looks FAKE for me. 3. They are late for our family group of 4 appointments .And made excuses said that the previous person is late, this and that... 4. All their name brand glasses is in 600+ range which only 200-300 in Costco or other places.And glasses under 150$ which insurance covered are very cheap quality. 5. The moment you walked in, you can feel the drama in the air... The employees are Taiwanese, if you are from China mainland, the way they talked to you will make you very uncomfortable. RUDE, RACIST... 6. My husband got a pair of glasses, and let them adjust it since it was too loose and didn't fit well. They said the tech is not there all the time or they are not responsible for any broken or damage. Are you kidding me? We bought frame here. 7. Now sure how they got so high reviews in yelp. Since I didn't want to pay extra to do the extra eye exam, they only took 5 mins did my regular eye exam which is away tooooooo fast and not professional. If you want to give a try, don't come here! Do not--under any circumstances--come here. Their lens-making is completely unprofessional; they won't tell you that the lenses they've produced do not match your prescription. You will end up sacrificing your own eye health, time, and money to visit doctors, undergo further eye exams, and search for the cause of your eye pain--only to eventually discover that the problem lies with their glasses. This is exactly what happened to me. Furthermore, their after-sales service and attitude are abysmal. Once your glasses have been handed over, they consider their job finished; trying to follow up with them afterward serves only to drain your own time and energy. read more

I took my father inlaw to pick up his glasses without receipt and there's a old lady with highlights on her hair in the fron deskt that helped us. She was very rude, racist, bad attitude and unprofessional. This store owner should not keep her there to work as a customer service because she would ruined the business. Is not worth your time going there because you will receive bad customer service. Also she implied that my father inlaw shouldn't drive because we brought a dmv form for the Optometrist to fill out so he can drive. She a bitch to say that because that's none of her business! I brought my frames in to get a new prescription and lenses. First, Dr Junyao Xu used what seemed to be the latest in technology to assess my eyes (I have had multiple issues with my eyes). I felt very confident that she determined the best prescription for my needs. Fortunately, since I needed these dine before I left the country, that they had the lenses in stock. Mixed Feelings After Years of Visits I've been coming to Golden Vision Optometry since I was a kid, and for the most part, I've had good experiences. The doctors are friendly and professional, and I've never had issues with my actual eye exams. However, as I've gotten older and started handling my own expenses, I've realized just how expensive this place is compared to other options. For years, I ordered a year-long supply of contact lenses through them, which nearly ran me $500. Eventually, I learned that Costco sells the same lenses for much cheaper, so I started purchasing them there instead. When I recently came in for a contact lens prescription and mentioned I'd be buying them elsewhere, Golden Vision offered to price match, which I appreciated. That said, I wish they would just sell at standard market prices from the start rather than overcharging families who might not know to look elsewhere. It doesn't sit right with me that lower-income patients or those unfamiliar with other options could end up paying way more than they need to. On top of pricing concerns, insurance and authorization processing here is frustratingly slow and inconsistent. I always make sure to call ahead and speak to multiple people before my appointment to confirm my coverage because I don't trust the information I get the first time. In one instance, I was originally told my insurance wouldn't cover my contact lens exam at all. Then, when I spoke to someone else, they told me my insurance would cover half, and I would only need to pay a copay of $89.25. However, when I checked in for my appointment, the front desk couldn't even find my authorization or confirm my coverage. While another staff member was able to resolve it within minutes, this kind of back-and-forth makes the entire process stressful and unreliable. While I like the doctors and have been coming here for years, I don't entirely trust the sales and administrative side of things. There's a clear push to upsell expensive products, and I often feel rushed into making purchases. If you come here for exams, definitely look into purchasing glasses and contacts elsewhere, like at Jins in the Arcadia Mall for eyewear or Costco for contacts, where the prices are much more reasonable. If you plan to get contacts or glasses here, I highly recommend checking prices elsewhere first and being proactive about verifying your insurance to avoid unnecessary charges. read more

I have been coming here for many years for my glasses and contacts. They have a system and will get patients in and out as fast as possible. My most recent visit, I was too early per my insurance for my contacts to be billed and had to call back to get them ordered. I was finally able to order and the rep told me I had to pay by phone. I asked if I could just pay in person when I pick up since they already billed my insurance. The rep only told me "pay now is better". I highly dislike paying on the phone because your credit card information could be written down or saved by the person taking it down (not to say this rep would). Never have I ever had to pay by phone at Golden Vision. I told the rep this and she did not care. Will never order by phone again. read more

I picked up my eyeglasses today and needed some adjustments. Unfortunately, the staff member helping me had a poor attitude and responded to my questions in a passive-aggressive manner. When I mentioned that I was told the glasses should be adjusted on the pickup day, she seemed frustrated and dismissive. She didn't patiently listen to my requests and kept doing what she thought was best without considering my preferences. She told me that the glasses were falling off because they were too heavy at the front, that my nose wasn't large or pointed enough, and that I had chosen the wrong frame from the start. I had to raise my voice a bit to make sure my concerns were heard. While she continued adjusting the glasses, she responded with, "Okay, if that's what you want," and "Didn't you see I already fixed the nose piece earlier?" It was a simple request, but I felt like I had to put in extra effort to communicate with her and deal with her attitude. I didn't catch her name, but she was in her 50s, had yellow hair, and spoke Cantonese and Mandarine. I wish she does not to this to other customers in the future. I took me hours to digest her bad attitude. Despite this experience, I want to mention that I have had many positive interactions with other staff members at this Gold Vision Center. read more

I called in to try to make an appointment ASAP for my contact lenses. But apparently I was forwarded to a call center, they didn't understand my urgency which was very annoying. I was transferred to Will. I explained that I needed a new exam and I was completely out of lenses. He assured me that I would be able to be seen same day and also be given contact lenses to last me a week in my prescription. During the examination, the doctor was very professional and said I didn't have any changes in my Rx. Afterwards true to his words, I was given the normal weeks worth of trials with a bit extra pairs to last me until I'm back in LA for my follow up. Next time I'm going to asked to be transferred to him on the phone from now on. read more

Was trying to call this place yesterday to see if I get my contact lens for this year, and was told to get a call back later the day. Yet, never received a call. I been with Golden Vision for over 8 years and basically come here every month. I have always gotten all my prescription glasses and contacts from them. My husband, my son, and I get our prescription glasses from them, while my daughters wear contacts from golden. Ira from Golden Vision is such a blessing as a parent navigating all my kids worsening vision. If you ever need help, make sure to find Ira she is the best representative here. Was able to get my glasses and contacts prescription $165; contacts 1/2 year supply of Acuvue Max $475; glasses frames and lenses order in a couple hours...$$$??? I'll have to come back in a week or so for my transition progressive anti reflective blue blocking lenses and frames...phew! There is always a mess when I use insurance. They always mess up. My son is their patient for many years. The insurace gives him a free eye check and a free glasses every two years. Everytime when I want to use the free one, there always a mess, such as I can't find your insurance, or there is something wrong with our system. WTF. Few days ealier, I went to there office, the front desk checked the insurance,and tole me my son can have a free glasses this year. Today, I bring my son to theri office, the front desk told me the system is down ,they can not check out. We walked in on a Friday night around 5pm to shop for a frame. Chloe helped me pick out my glasses. She is super knowledgeable about the styles that they have. I told her I wanted glasses that were similar to my previous one and she instantly recognized them as Korean-style glasses. She pulled out a bunch of different styles for me to try on and I was able to find one that I liked in no time. They offer so many different types of glasses here so it's easy to get overwhelmed. Thanks to Chloe, I was able to narrow down my options. As for the price range of their frames, they offer affordable styles that can be covered by insurance as well as designer brands. I got my prescription from somewhere else and was unsure if I got the right prescription. Chloe was very patient and spent a lot of time helping me try on the prescription. I didn't end up liking the prescription that I got from the other place so then I ended up going with my old prescription. The staff here are all really friendly. tl;dr VSP is now out of network and they hope you won't notice I've been going to Golden Vision for the better part of 7-8 years and had no real problems since they are fairly quick and efficient with a great frames selection. Wait times can definitely build up but that was never really an issue for me, especially when everyone is trying to use their insurance by EOY. However what really disturbed me on my last visit was the lack of transparency when it came to my insurance. I went in for typical eye exam and noticed that it was maybe $10-20 higher than before but I thought it was no big deal, and I also wanted to get new frames. It was a different experience because the opticians seemed really frantic and unsure of this "new system" that they all kept mentioning that had just been implemented 2 days prior. Multiple times, they had to consult the lead optician around insurance coverage that looked completely different to me compared to prior visits. For context, I have VSP insurance which had always worked before. When they showed me the price breakdown, I noticed the wording "VSP Open Access" but I thought nothing of it. When I had eventually selected the frames and lens combination I wanted, the price was not mathing out appropriately according to past glasses I've purchased. So I texted an optometrist friend to ask what Open Access was and he straight up told me that I'm now out of network.... HUH? Not once was I told I was out of network but kept on getting excuses of "new system" at least 5-6 times. My friend told me that it's a shady practice that some optometry businesses do in order to keep you as a customer. They aren't completely forthcoming and hope you turn a blind eye and not do your due diligence to ensure your coverage is still intact. They want you to think that since you get a partial discount, that means your insurance is working and off you go not knowing any better. Well, needless to say I cancelled my glasses and will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. It was a good run, but I don't stand by scummy practices. edit: Looks like the Golden Vision in Irvine is the only one left that accepts VSP. William was incredibly patient during our experience picking out glasses. My girlfriend can be extremely picky when it comes to choosing frames, and after months of indecision, she still wasn't sure. We spent three hours walking around the store, looking at almost every pair of glasses, and it honestly felt worse than shopping for a car at a dealership. Despite how long it took, William remained calm, attentive, and supportive the entire time. He never rushed us and helped my girlfriend explore all her options until she finally found the perfect pair. His professionalism and understanding made a stressful process so much easier. Review update - i've been taking my family to this place for a while now but we will NOT be coming back. The staff is a lot more rude with attitude problem than before, the wait time is worse, and the optician who help with glasses is unbelievably rude, impatient and not professional. They will not find out the status of my daughter's glasses order, and once it has arrived, they would not adjust it to her liking. They just keep telling her that its 'straight' and that is how it is supposed to look even after she showed them that the glasses fall when she look down. Need i keep on going with my unsatisfaction?
