I decided to come to Alhambra Optometry because Helen, one of the staff from the prior optometry office, is now working at this location. Helen has been serving me for years and always friendly and helpful. I like the fact that it is easy to get an appointment at this location and the optometrist is available on the weekends. The doctor is very nice and professional and the appointments are prompt. However, what brings me back here for the past 20 years was because of this one lady. My dad brought me here for an eye exam as a teenager. During that time, I had an incident were allergies were causing my eyes to itch to the point where I wanted to scratch them off. Due to whatever medical or financial restrictions that I couldn't remember, I could not get allergy eye drops from other places. However, I do remember that there was one lady from this store who was able to help me get the prescription needed when I needed it the most. I will forever remember that day as I have been coming back by myself after college and I have been back every year since for my annual eye exam. The lady who helped me still works here. Sometimes she remembers me, sometimes she doesn't or she is just too busy. I talked to her about my story once and she told me that she remembers the incident. But anyway, awesome store, good doctor, and amazing staff. I've gotten exams, glasses, and contacts throughout the years and have no complaints. Always busy with people in the store so they really don't need my review but it is another thing I wanted to do to repay their kindness. read more

I changed optometrist since last year with my new work insurance. I made an appointment more than a week in advance and when I arrived I didn't have to wait long to see the doctor. They are quick here and will check your eyes and get you in and out with no long waiting time. I was able to find some new frames at a reasonable price to replace my old glasses. read more

The reading glasses I had to give up because, after 3 tries they still hadn't gotten the prescription right. The business is family-run and I think one of the little aunties is confused. I went in for a contact lens fitting on only 1 eye, because I just had cataract surgery on the other eye.. The optometrist rushed through the exam. He gave me 2 trial contacts, one with and one without astigmatism correction. The prescription he came up with was a 1.25 diopters lower than the eyeglass prescription I got at KP. Contact lens prescriptions are weaker than eye glass prescriptions, but this was, in my mind too big a discrepancy. I thought it was strange that they wanted me to try them out at home, rather than in the office. I asked to try one in the office, and they obliged me. They didn't even give me a case for the lenses. It was quite bright outside, and the prescription appeared to be slightly weak, but tolerable. I noticed the weak prescription a lot more when it got darker in the evening. The next day I tried the astigmatism correction lens, and found it to be blurrier than the other one, and it felt scratchy in my eye. I was dismayed to find out that the prescriptions on the 2 trial lenses were DIFFERENT both in base curve and diopter! The regular lens was -4.75, BC 8.8, and the astigmatism lens -4.50 BC 8.6!!! That explains why the astigmatism lens was blurrier, it was more underpowered then the other, and also why it felt scratchy. I've worn contacts in the past, and they all were BC 8.8, so that was just a lucky guess on his part. Furthermore, the astigmatism lens was EXPIRED by over 7mo! Thankfully, I only need the lenses for a couple of weeks, so I'm not going to bother to go back and complain. Unprofessional, willful neglect and incompetence! Avoid this place! read more

This is a much belated but well deserved review. I went for my first appointment with Dr. Wu in 2019 looking to get an eye exam and contact and glasses rx for both myself and my husband. The price was very very reasonable for Los Angeles and the front staff are professional and kind. Dr. Wu was very thorough and caring, asking me lots of questions about my eye health and habits and offering OTC recommendations to improve conditions like allergies and dry eyes. During his examination and testing he saw signs that concerned him, so he referred me to an Opthamalogist who could do further testing and where I could use my health insurance. Dr. Wu's referral was equally awesome which speaks a lot to his professionalism and caring. Due to these additional concerns, I was not able to pin down my contact prescription right away. They patiently worked with me over the course of 6 months with various trial pairs to make sure I was prescribed the right brand and rx for my finicky eyes. When we finally landed on the right rx, their front office set me up so I could claim a sizeable rebate on my order of contacts. Everyone on the team here are all stars. The staff and Dr. Wu's work is very efficient and thorough. I've been a glasses and contacts wearer for over 25 years and I have never felt more genuine care and concern over my eye health! As long as I'm in LA I plan to come back here for my eye exams. read more

I had an emergency (left my contacts in the Bay Area when I was visiting) and had to find an optometrist that had my contacts in stock. After calling 10+ other optometrists, all of which declined me because I wasn't planning on purchasing at least a 6-month supply, Alhambra Optometry came to the rescue and saved my Christmas vacation...because how am I supposed to enjoy my visit if I can't see anything?! Although I wasn't a customer, they showed me kindness that I haven't received elsewhere by giving me a 1-week supply. This is truly a "people centric" business, which is rare to find nowadays. The hinge screw on my glasses (purchased elsewhere) had come loose. I am reasonably handy with tools and tried to repair this myself, but had gotten severely frustrated as I couldn't get the holes to line up to get the tiny screw started in the threads. I stopped by Alhambra optical, and the lady at the counter explained that the glasses had spring hinges and the springs needed to be pre-loaded to get the screw in, which is tricky and requires some technique. She took it into the back and had it fixed in about 10 minutes, while a second lady kept me apprised on status. I tried to pay, but they insisted that it was no charge. They were both so kind and responsive that I want to go back to them with my business and also encourage others to give them a try. They appear to be a woman run business that caters to primarily Chinese customers, but they speak fluent English, so don't let that stop you. read more

The ladies who work behind the counter are very wonderful and friendly people. They assisted me in any aspects of optometry-related things. They helped me check my insurance to make sure it covers and if something isn't covered they let me know and let me decide- they never upsell me on anything. The other day, I went to ask them if they can help me install one lense back into my frames because it fell out, and they did it quickly. I offered them tips but they did not want it. Just excellent services here. At my old optometry in MPK, the ladies there were horrible and it took them forever to get me in even on my scheduled appointment. I was literally in and out of that office in 2 hours. Over here? Get in on my appointment time and 20-30 minutes and I'm done. Back in 2017, I had their eye exam and Dr. Wu examined my eyes. A very nice doctor. I didn't have any problems or any inconvenience here. Parking can be troublesome if you're coming during peak hours. It's shared in the same lot with all of these other stores and a Quang Hoa supermarket. If you need your optometry-fix or need an optometrist, go here! I was having lunch nearby and decided I should get new glasses today because I haven't had my eyes examined in a couple of years. Simon was very helpful; well actually, everyone was too. I was looking for a reasonably priced and local optometrist and found Alhambra Optometry on Yelp. I had been going to Costco for my eye exams for the last 3 years and always felt like I was only given 15 min max with the optometrist before being herded out of the room for the next waiting customer. I knew it was time to get away from the Costco optometrists, so I called up Alhambra Optometry and they were able to see me that same day for glasses and contact exam. Lu at the front desk is the most friendly person. She let me know that my insurance covered part of the exam cost so it was even cheaper than going to Costco. Dr. Monty Wu took his time with my exam and actually found an irregularity in my left eye and gave me a note to see a specialist. None of the other Costco docs ever caught it and now I have an appointment to see a specialist later this month. On top of that, he found that the prescription from the prior year was way too strong. We visited the place this past weekend back to back with eye exams along with getting right lenses for my wife and daughter. I was so impressed by the entire team of staff helping us out. Dr. Wu is very knowledgeable and willing to work with you and provide his recommendations on what was best for my daughter. The staff were very patient working with you tirelessly to ensure my wife and daughter have the correct lenses along with comfort. I myself also wear glasses and I wish I have known this place sooner. I highly recommended this optometry without a question. Before we left today, I saw a couple ready to leave and the husband made a comment to the staff how professional and thorough they were. You won't find this type of services nowadays with optometry. The lady with the short pixie hair (wished I'd gotten her name) is so sweet and attentive. Recently, she spent 30+ minutes patiently helping my brother with choosing the right pair of frames and offered many helpful suggestions on the best pair for his face shape. The frames and lens were reasonably well-priced since she also worked with my mom's budget. My family and I have seen the same level of consistent service and attention during our last few visits and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new, affordable optometry. Long awaited review but this is my favorite optometry place! The ladies working here are so sweet and patient. I was looking for a contact lens exam and Yelp led me here with considerations on how expensive prescriptions can be without insurance at other places. Not only is it probably the best rate in the area but I also love how close it is to my house :) It was my first time wearing contacts so I also chose the option of them teaching me how to put them on. They were super patient and kept cheering me on til I finally was able to put a lens in my eye after wasting so many sample lens LOL. After I got it down, they gave me 2 different type of lens to try for a week to see which I wanted and was comfortable with.
