I had two issues that needed addressing, hence this visit: JCPenny Optical, which I've gone to my entire life, suddenly closed all their optical stores, so I needed a new optometrist, and I had just dropped my glasses so it needed fixing. I came here since it opened the earliest, seemed comfortable, and is in-network. The waiting area is clean and comfortable. At the front desk, Andy listened intently, analyzed the issue, and fixed my glasses promptly! For my pre-eye exam assessment, the technician could have been clearer with her instructions, but it was fine. For the exam itself, Dr. Cao was great! I used to see Dr. Joy (Jeng) Kao for years here, and loved her. Front desk staff is very nice as well. Once Dr. Kao left the practice, I saw Dr. Chu, but did not have a good experience. At the end of 2022, I went to get my eye exam with Dr. Chu, and she lowered my contacts prescription from -4.50 (which Dr. Kao prescribed me) to -4.00 in both eyes. I thought it was a bit odd that my prescription would get lower (meaning my vision improved), but Dr. Chu says it does happen. However, after a week of trying the new lower prescription, we settled on -4.25 instead. The first problem I encountered was when the front desk staff gave me a quote on contact lenses. Their pricing was high, and I knew I could get it much cheaper online, so I asked them to just give me the prescription so I can buy them elsewhere. The girl was visibly afraid to do so. Apparently, Dr. Chu pressures them so much to make the sale and withhold prescriptions, to the point that the girl said she would secretly email it to me later. I paid for the contact lens fitting, there shouldn't be any issues easily getting my prescription from them if I want it. The second problem I encountered was, when she finally emailed it to me, it was for the original lower prescription of -4.00. I told her that we ended up going with -4.25 and she revised it and resent a new one. However, my glasses prescription still stayed at -4.25. Apparently, glasses prescriptions should be slightly higher (so something like -4.50 in my case), since the lens sits farther away from your face than contacts. I didn't know that, so I didn't know to ask for a revision on the glasses prescription as well. So I end up having glasses made using the wrong prescription, and after wearing for a month, I still couldn't see as clearly as before and subtitles on tv were a bit blurry. I reported it to Dr. Chu's office, and the response that I got was that I could be sitting too far away from the tv or my prescription had changed since then. In any case, if I wanted to have it fixed, it would be another $150 eye exam fee. It didn't seem like she had any desire to help me solve this problem unless I paid again, so I didn't go back. This year, I went to a different optometrist's office, and the experience was like night and day. The new doctor confirmed that my glasses prescription was supposed to be slightly higher than my contacts prescription, and fixed it for me, so now my vision is perfect and I feel so much better wearing my new glasses. And guess what? It was the exact same prescription that Dr. Kao prescribed me previously. They also automatically handed me my prescriptions when I paid, I didn't even have to ask. No pressure whatsoever to buy contacts or glasses from their office. read more

We started going to Katie Chu from a recommendation of a friend last year and the experience has been wonderful. My mom is older and is not a very good listener. Katie understood and was very patient with her. She explained thing to a few times to her so that she would understand, in English and in Mandarin! My mom loves her now and cant' wait to go back to see her again. The staff has also been great. We ordered glasses and it was made in a day or two they even mailed my mom's glasses to her in Las Vegas with just paying the postage fee. Thank you for taking care of my mom! read more

I've been to plenty of optometrists, and Dr. Chu is the best that I've ever been to. After switching from a few mediocre optometrists, I had to come back here. I love that she is so thorough with the exams so I am comfortable to trust her with my final prescription. She gives great recommendations for contacts, which I have been raving about for years. If you plan on getting colored contacts, Dr, Chu and her staff are more than happy to assist you in choosing the colors that you want. I was able to sample most of the colors and had a blast doing so. Make an appointment, especially if you plan on coming in on a Saturday. They're usually pretty good with timing so I can bear the wait. Just come prepared with entertainment because you can't always be so lucky. read more

Come see Dr Jeng!!! She's super professional and friendly. I had LASIK done a year ago and was due for my annual exam. I stopped by my for annual eye exam and was very impressed with my experience. Dr Jeng was very thorough during the examination and gave me the impression that she took the exam every serious. She took a good amount of time to make sure she checked very carefully on the health of my eyes. She also took the time to answered all my questions. I didn't feel like she was rushing through my examination. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming. They made sure they sent a copy of of my eye exam to me and my LASIK DR to ensure I continue to receive my lifetime warranty for my LASIK. I enjoyed my visit and would recommend coming back here. They also sell eye frames and contacts. Also, depending on your insurance, you can be covered for prescriptive lenses.. Tip: accepts credit cards!! read more

Chu's Optometry since I was a kid and have been there until recently (joined the army and got free eye care.) The staff is nice and don't be surprised if they remember you from a year ago! They'll even ask what school you're going to and how have you been doing...something so human but lacking in this corporate world. Glasses/contacts has an average one week turn around time for pickup. ALWAYS, make an appointment or call ahead of time before you pick up your prescription! TIP: The parking lot is small and if you drive a big SUV/Truck, it might be a tight fit...if you're just picking up prescription, you can just park in front of the clinic (White loading Zone) or even on the street adjacent to the plaza. read more

i got recommended this place by a friend. the staff are really nice. dr. chu is actually really detailed and friendly. i had a good experience here. the staff are willing to cut you a deal if you're getting contacts. dr. chu was actually my first good experience at an eye doctor. all of my past experiences with eye doctors have been pretty bad. i say bad because i feel really intimidated and when i try to make conversation or ask a question they provide me with very short answers and no facial expressions. im giving her 4 stars due to the small section of eye glasses they have. call me superficial if you want but i like the designer ones. and finding the right pair is really hard. they don't have a wide variety. so i would suggest coming here for just an eye exam or for contacts. the parking spots are tight! and since its a small shared lot you'll probably have trouble finding a spot. office hours: monday, tuesday, friday 9-5pm closed for lunch at 1-2pm. wednesday-230-630pm; thursday 2-5pm; saturday 9-4pm. read more

I really, really like Dr. Chu. I think she's great at what she does and has an associate on Saturdays whom also does a thorough and professional job. Everyone working there seems to be happy and I've never received anything but wonderful customer service. Contacts are expensive there, so I rarely order them from their office (I wear colored contacts for superficial reasons, not because I need them to see). I get them online and asked a girl at the front desk if they price-match. I would much rather purchase the contacts from their office and give them the business and the response was, "We don't really price match but sometimes we do." The other issue is that Dr. Chu has never been on time for my appointments, which I used to make early when the office would just open. I don't like waiting at doctors' offices, so I make it a point to get the earliest available appointments in the mornings. I also like to get those types of errands done and out of the way so I can get along with the rest of my day. But every time, without fail, Dr. Chu has shown up thirty minutes late. So I've gotten to making appointments mid-day, which I also hate because it interrupts my day. However, because I like her so much (the friendliness, how knowledgeable they are, the very competitive prices if you don't have insurance and need to pay cash, etc), I keep giving her office my family's business and will probably continue to do so for a long time. read more

I can't say enough about Katie. She's a wonderful person and as much as I enjoy her services, I enjoy her company just as much. She was very helpful when I had problems with my eyes and tried all options just to make sure nothing was left out. I recently went in for a eye glasses fitting and, oddly enough, I wanted to stay longer and chat. To sum her up, Dr. Katie Weisz is what you would want your doctor to be like. The setting isn't very appealing, as it is in a plaza that no one would even want to go to, and her office is just a standard optometrist office. This is by far the best optometry office I've ever been to. The staffs here are wonderful and personable. That's including the receptionists or the people who are in front desk. For an example, today i wanted to see urgent care because my eyes were hurting. The person who I spoke with, April, she was able to squeeze me in two hrs after i had made the phone call. They really try their best to help you with whatever issue you have with your eyes. I've been coming here for a couple years now for glasses & contacts exam. Dr. Katie Chu is usually my doctor, but now, there's another one I believe his name is Dr. Chang. I would highly recommend both, they're both amazing at what they do. Don't go here. They make you wait for a very long time. They do not stick to their appointment schedule and very recently they cancelled my appointment for me. Dr.Chu was running late and could not see me in time. I would have been ok with this if they had been more accommodating or had a similar thing not happen a few months before when I also tried to see her. If you can't keep up with your appointment schedule, why have one. I've gone here for the past 4 years and will never return. There are more professional optometrists in the area. read more

This was my first experience at this Optometrist and it was great. The office is small, but I was very impressed. I called on a Friday to get an appointment on Saturday, but they were booked. I told the receptionist/nurse my issue and she was able to squeeze me in. They were concerned and knowledgeable. I waited a bit, but didn't mind because I was inconveniencing them, plus the 3 girls at the front desk were delightful! I overheard them dealing with long-winded difficult customers, and they were experts at their customer service skills. I didn't see Dr. Chu, but another Dr. Chan or Chen (?). Ms. Chu has been my optometrist for the past 15+ years. THE GOOD: Dr. Chu and her staff are really nice and great for Asian patients who wants someone or a staff who can speak Cantonese or Mandarin. Everyone speaks fluent English, too. Dr. Jeng and Dr. Chu are knowledgeable and good optometrists. Good contacts and solution samples and you can try the color contacts for free! Good location. THE BAD: Glass frames selection - Small and not attractive either. If my insurance only covers glasses every 2 years, I would like more options to look good. Outdated - equipment and the office itself. Nothing seems to have changed (carpet, walls, desks, waiting room chairs, display cases, etc.). As for equipment, I hate that puffing air into your eye machine and newer optometry offices don't use that machine. Wait times - You may arrive to your appointment early, but it would not matter. Your wait time will most likely be 20 to 30 minutes before they can see you. Scheduling appointments - Only way to book is through the phone or in person. Normally they do not have an opening for a month out. It is great her business is doing well, but the small optometry office can't meet demand. Changing appointments will just set you another month out. Parking lot is small and tight. So you may not find parking or you may have dings on your car door. I decided to no longer use this office because I needed an optometrist with more options in appointments and glasses. I am busy and I was kind of tired fighting for an appointment the past couple of years and the wait times. I found a new optometrist that offers similar and better options for me. Overall, good optometrists and good office. I think what Dr. Chu has that others may not, is she can speak to those that only speak Mandarian or Cantonese. If that isn't a requirement or matters to you, there are other optometrists in the area that are just as good. read more
