    Sausage with sauerkraut and bread.
    Natalie G.

A decent spot to grab a quick lunch and drinks. We were in Salzberg only for a day trip, and came across this place. We got the sausage and sauerkraut combo, along with a roasted pork, dumpling, and cabbage thing. All straight forward and good. The cabbage thing is basically a simple coleslaw. Prices were decent to with dishes ranging from 11€ to 18€. All in all. Good.

We walked in after recommendations that this would be an authentic Austrian place only to find them playing the song county road take me home to a place we call home! Seriously it was a guy live with American accent. Oh well, OK food. Great beer. Our server says: tip me it's not included in your food. Awkward.

The food here came across to me as home cooking and was really good tasting. Everyone in our group of 8 loved their meal. Only issue was the service was a little slow and splitting the bill was an ordeal.

Hubs and I had apps, portions were HUGE so definitely ok to share, also were quite tasty. Beer was great. Service wonderful. Definitely a tourist trap, but in a good way. If you're ready to sit and have a beer or food, definitely worth a stop.

Most excellent authentic Austrian food. My wife and I love this place. Service is top notch, food is outstanding and you can't beat the view of the river.

We were in Salzburg for the day and wanted to have traditional food and drinks and we were debating on a few different places but we were so glad we came here. It was super busy but we're still sat almost immediately and our waiter Dimitri was extremely kind and helpful even though me and my boyfriend only speak English. He helped us with recommendations and promptly brought us our food and drinks even though it seemed extremely busy. The food was absolutely amazing, I had gotten the beef goulash and it came with a salad and potatoes and my boyfriend got one of the pork options and we both were absolutely raving about how amazing the meal was. We also had the Augustine lagerbier hell and the dunkel which were both so good. We loved the atmosphere, it was fun and loud and everyone was having a great time. If you're you're looking for traditional food without the basic tourist trap kinda thing this is for sure your place. I've attached a picture of our meals, I already started eating mine before I snapped the pic.

No reservation made in advance or required at that time of day. Inside was cool with rustic wooden decor and furnishings. Menu contained many of the classic Austrian dishes that we were looking to fill up our stomachs. Portions looked big but it was also nice to find some options that came in smaller plates so we could make sure that we left enough room for one of their desserts. We took a little longer to nail down our meal and we ended up getting some very basic dishes: The small plate of Austrian meatballs were quite tasty with a savory sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The veal schnitzel was huge and took up more than 3/4 of the plate with a few boiled potatoes. Nice crunch on the outside and juicy veal on the inside but the potatoes were a bit plain. The crowning end to our meal was one of the city's famous desserts, the Salzburg Nockerl. We actually switched from the apple strudel at the last minute so we had to wait a little extra time before the nockerl was served. It's not an easy dessert to make though its main ingredients were eggs, sugar and a little flour. The 3 browned peaks were impressive when served. The raspberry sauce on the bottom provided a sweet add. It was very close to a soufflé with a very airy like texture that melted in the mouth. Well worth the 24.9 Euros charged and the most expensive dessert of our trip. We had great service from the staff and easily accommodate our change our minds on the dessert. We closed our tab at the table and would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting some good food options.

We went with the local favorites The Goulosh plater with dumplings and a Bratwurst to share each. Although I never drink beer, I opted to try thier local brew. Our server Simone was very nice and gave us some of her local suggestions. The Fiod was very tasty! The Goulosh was the right amount for lunch and a huge dumpling ball to go with it. the Bratwurst was good but no bread with it. more of a meal with potatos. All the service was great in this old world 162 year old establishment.

We were sat at the opposite end of the table from another couple in a little room. The servers were plenty friendly and spoke good English to assist us. My husband got a burger and I ordered the Mac and cheese and a salad and we shared. It was a lot of food! We also ordered the pancake shredded dessert which came with a jelly type of sauce. Everything was good but it was sooo heavy. I certainly recommend sharing so that you have enough room in your stomach. We would return next time we were in Salzburg.

The goulash was amazingly flavorful, rich and hearty, and the potato dumplings were the perfect accompaniment. We also tried the deep-fried chicken with potato salad. The chicken was juicy and nicely fried, and while it wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was definitely good. The potato salad was also really nice and paired well with the chicken. We made a reservation even though it was a Sunday night, and I'm glad we did. The place had a great mix of locals and tourists, and seeing quite a few locals dining there was definitely reassuring. The atmosphere has that classic traditional Gasthaus vibe--casual, lively, and focused on good food. If you're looking for traditional Austrian food in a relaxed Gasthaus setting, Bärenwirt is definitely worth a visit.

We ordered a couple of appetizers to share. One that stood out was their trio dip and I particularly liked the pork belly crackling dip that was served with sourdough bread. It definitely is not the most healthy as it was greasy, but super flavorful with great texture from the cracklings. Another one I enjoyed was their Regensburger Wurstsalat. The sausages were thinly sliced paired with a crispy, tangy vinaigrette which was refreshing especially in a hot summer day. The scallions and red onions added another level of flavor and texture. For main, I ordered their braised pork belly and was pleasantly surprised. Th meat was tender, skin was still crispy and the sauce was hearty yet not too salty. My kids tried their schnitzel and they enjoyed it. However, my husband ordered one of their beef dish and I was told it was dry and salty. I honestly would recommended to just stick with pork when in Germany/Austria and stay away from beef because ever beef dishes we've tried were not good. Overall, this is your typical Biergarten with plenty of outdoor seating and tv's available to watch any sports. Our servers were all very friendly and relatively quick Austrian standard. The only thing is some tv's streamed ahead of others so the people who's watching the slower tv were a little upset as they would've heard the reaction of others before they can see the actions.

The beer is brewed onsite, I'd love to see that, but alas, no. Five stars is what it deserved as everything was really really good!

Unfortunately, the customer service was the biggest disappointment of the evening. One waitress seemed to deliberately avoid speaking the language the guests were using, only to later reveal that she actually speaks six languages. Not exactly the kind of interaction you expect from a place of this reputation. Another waiter was running around trying so hard to be helpful and pleasing that he seemed to forget what his actual purpose was... sad. Toddlers policy needs to be enforced as sometimes it makes it uncomfortable when the little ones are shouting and crying. Food was a mixed experience. The prawn paella was nothing particularly memorable, while the deer was surprisingly good - juicy, tender, and easily the highlight of the meal. The wine selection felt a little on the lower side for the price level. The dessert wines, including the port and Riesling ice wine, were left behind as they didn't at all impress. The bathrooms were a pleasant surprise - very cute, modern, and automated. Overall, an interesting location and something worth experiencing once, but considering the prices and the service, it felt a little overpriced for what was delivered. For five of us, definitely a one-time visit rather than a place we'd rush back to.
