It's a corporate gym. Outside of Venice, this Golds looks and feels like every other low/mid level gym. Nothing too fancy. The machines are kinda clean, and they find mediocre staff because they refuse to pay above minimum wage. Any gym goer already know the vibe and feel and thankfully after mid February, you don't have to deal with the new year folks. If you have issues with cleanliness, go to Lifetime or a Boutique. Hi All, The Gym is nice , but some how the managers are not good especially Erin. While enrolling for the Gym , I was being told that I shall receive a gift card , and also my friend who recommended me to the gym. None of us have received anything. We tried contacting several managers and filled couple of forms, but no use. I don't understand why they make false promises. I have discontinued my membership. I really can't stand cheaters and people who lie. Also they do not tell you all the rules and regulations. E.g. While signing up, they told me that after I terminate my membership, I can still use gym for 1 month without any fees since they deduct last month's fees while joining the gym. But he didn't tell me that I have to give a month's notice before terminating the membership. Cheaters.... read more

On 11/9/2013 I sent an email to Brian Hauer, manager, to complain about their housekeeper who follows me around the gym and freaks me out. I felt he was always looking at me. I asked Brian if they would change the housekeeper's schedule to work in the evenings or move him to another gold's gym. If no action was taken on their part, I would cancel my membership. Needless to say, housekeeper is still there. On 11/25/2013, Brian was at the front desk, I requested the cancellation form, he hands it to me, tells me where to sign. I asked him if he spoke to the housekeeper; he said yes and could not discuss because it was private. I then said the housekeeper probably denied what he was doing. I have been a Gold's member since it opened and feel my complaint was not taken seriously and brushed aside. read more

Yet another dissatisfied customer, to say the least. My family and I have been members for over 3 years. My girlfriend is moving to the city and I tried to turn her on to my gym, even though she's dealt with Golds before and had horrible experiences. I assured her that was just the Seattle locations, and that this gym would be different. I now see what she means. As long as you are signing up with them, and never plan to cancel, you are safe. If you ever decide for any reason that you need to move on to another gym, you're dead. Typical misleading information from their in-house sales people. Typical "promotions" which they never know how long they'll last for. Typical horrible customer service. Typical continual billing of card on file for months after cancellation. Absolutely ZERO effort on this locations side to notify me of updates with my current situation. An Operations Manager (Amanda McCluer) who has absolutely ZERO operational experience or ability to make operational type of decisions and processes. Telling me that I should call customer support, after I'm already having to call her once a week for two months. Why doesn't she call customer service for me? Since she can't do anything else for me? And all of this happening during the blessed Holiday season. Ohh what cheer and merriment I am feeling. Horrible management. And after reading some other reviews on this location and Gold's Gym in general, it seems they have the same reoccurring issues with all their unhappy customers. The only thing keeping them in business must be the fraudulent reoccurring over charging they practice on their members. In the end, my girlfriend got an $88 one day gym visit. I became a member a couple of years back and had been an absolute nightmare since. I came to Austin and made a mistake to walk into this gym without considering others. The gym was OK and I was pretty excited to start. Me and my wife became members. the first nightmare was when my wife became pregnant, She could no longer continue Gym per Doc instructions. We reached out to the Gym to cancel the membership and there I found out that we had signed up something at the time of joining which bounds us for 2 years. We were told to pay something everything month and put membership on hold. We eventually had a get a doctor's note to get her membership cancelled. I had a beautiful Gym open up at my workplace and I stopped going to the Gold's gym. But I had to continue paying till end of my 2 year term. Well since I signed up something for 2 years, I was stuck and paying for something I could not use. There was no way of cancelling. Anyway what ticked me off what after 2 years, I put in cancellation but I still have to pay for 30 days. Anyway my card they had in file for 2 years expired and they could not process my payment, I got a call and I went and gave them my new card, they processed the amount. No-one said anything that day. But the day they see I have asked for cancellation, someone calls me and says I have to pay a 25$ late fee for a 16$ payment they could not process. it was not a bounced check, the card was refused. Someone found that I have cancelled and decided to extort me for whatever they can before I leave. After the baby, my wife joined a gym right across the road for half the price, 24 hr fitness, it has much better equipment, cleaner bathrooms and a pool and sauna. No contact. They only way this facility can compete is lure people into contract and rip them off whenever they can. I hope some innocent first-timer like me will read this review and save their trip to this hellhole. read more

After complaining several times to several "managers", I am still extremely disappointed about the group class offerings for people who work. I can't get a free class that starts after 6:30 pm. I'm tired of hearing that "that is when the instructors are available". Hey--get new instructors that can be there when your paying customers are there. I work full time and need classes that I can actually attend. I'm sick of hearing "we are aware". I have been a member of Gold's Gym, attending this location, for 7 years. I always have paid a year at a time and although the gym itself isn't that great, I (like others have mentioned) love the group classes. I have really enjoyed Kelly, Megan and Leslie. However, in February of 2016, I had my 4th baby. I didn't even attempt to come back until May of 2016 and after that point, my attendance was sporadic. In the fall, I stopped going altogether because they dropped the only morning class I could attend (due to my baby's nap schedule). In January of 2017, I started attending sporadically once again, but there were entire months when I didn't come. The trouble is that in this time when my attendance was non-existent to sporadic, they were enrolling member children. Anyone who didn't enroll their kids (or new members) would have to pay a fee of $12/child per month! Unfortunately, I missed the enrollment period. They claim that Gold's corporate emailed all members to let them know of the change, however, I did not receive any such email. When I was told I would have to start paying the fee, I tried to explain my situation to the GM. I don't know if he was sympathetic or not, but he said he couldn't help me. He claims that he filed a request for an exemption for me with Gold's corporate and was rejected. I also emailed and messaged (on FB) Gold's Gym and was met with the same response. So even though I have been a member in good standing for 7 years and was a member during the enrollment time, they were unwilling to extend a little grace for me and allow me to be grandfathered in along with other members. I had simply been absent and had missed the opportunity to enroll! Had I known that I needed to enroll my kids or face a stiff fine, I would've done it in a heartbeat. I've been appalled with Gold's customer service at all levels of this process. From the people at the front desk who never told me that I needed to register my kids, to the GM (Nick) and his indifference, to the lack of understanding in their non-existent customer care department.... Gold's does not care about taking care of its members. It's clear to me that they are more interested in their bottom line, and when you can bring in new members who have to pay $12/per child per month, I understand why! After fighting this in every avenue available to me, I have finally conceded and joined the YMCA. Their monthly fee for me an my kids is less than what Gold's wanted me to pay and the facility is MUCH nicer. I would've stayed a loyal Gold's member for 7 more years, but it's clear that customer care is at the bottom of their priorities. Shame. ***Edit: The GM posted below that signage was posted. I was repeatedly told this. However, signage is NOT helpful if you're not coming in. Also, he would never give me firm dates as to when the enrollment began and when it ceased. I'm presuming this is due to the fact that it began while I was not attending and ended either shortly before I returned or shortly after. In either case, signage is not sufficient. NO ONE at the front desk notified me of the change, either because I had missed the enrollment period or they didn't care. Plain and simple. But in either case, I WAS a member (paid and in good standing) and should have been allowed to register my children. Customer service is not a priority, despite what he says. I've been a member at Gold's Gym since the middle of May 2010. At first I was pretty happy with this gym. I've been on a losing streak with weightloss (at the time had lost 30 pounds since January) and I was looking forward to hitting a gym other than the ones at apartments. I moved to south Austin from Riata so I was used to their amazing facilities. Again, at first the gym was good. It did its job. I seemed to always be able to find a functioning machine and I enjoyed using the little areas upstairs they have set up for free weights (for those of us that don't want to be surrounded by the hardcore lifters downstairs). I canceled my membership this week and I'll tell you why: 1) the staff is pushy. They always want you to buy training sessions or group classes or have your partner join. I get that you have something to sell but I made it very clear when I joined, I just wanted the gym. 2) the staff is rude and obnoxious. This week was the third time I have experienced hearing a trainer at the front desk chatting with the girls up there about the female members who are walking in. TX is a third party harrasment state so just be lucky I'm canceling and walking away. 3) cardio machines are ALWAYS broken. There seems to be a steady stream of new machines each day that have "not working" signs on them. Honestly, why even bother keeping the machines around if they just keep breaking!? 4) this place is full of posing, ridiculous meatheads. I have no other way to describe it except that way. It's awful. Basically, I'm heading either across the street to 24 Hour Fitness or down the road to Lifetime. Yes it'll be more expensive but I've decided it's worth my money to feel like it actually goes somewhere rather than into this gym. read more

Start by parking in the dark parking lot, then open the door and walk in to the aroma of your new gym. Features? Oh yeah, they got em'. You'll pay for broken equipment, filthy restrooms/locker rooms, and no extra charge for the break-ins (that's right, the locker break-ins. Leave your wallet in your car in the dark parking lot). Now it can be disappointing in that every once in a while they will actually fix the equipment, but thankfully they have NO concept of preventative maintenance so it will break again. Been going here for 10 years. Pros: -open 24 hours -variety of machines Cons: -dirty (i seen the same piece of trash in the same area untouched 4 days in a row) machines are filthy and dusty. -stinky (smells like farts, ass, and BO, yeah its a gym but seriously?) -11/24 mens locker room is closed with no bathroom alternatives, so i cant take a piss from hydrating my body during my workout. Shower and go to work. INCONVENIENCE -1/25 no water. Cant hydrate, cant piss, again cant shower so i have to cut the workout in half to go home to shower. -parking sucks. And people that go here do know how to park so your car will get door dented. -sauna never works. When it does its barely hot enough and makes loud annoying noises -did i mention that the parking sucks? -machines are always broken and arent fixed for weeks/months -creepy old men come here to look at women because they cant get some on their own (2 50-60yr old men do that daily upstairs on the bicycles upstairs...have some respect creeps) -too many selfies from the muscle-heads. This gym is wonderful! It has pretty much everything you need to pound out a great workout. It's clean and well maintained, which is all you can as for in a 24/7 gym. Most of the staff is marvelous, except one. Which brings me to explain why I will never set foot in this gym again unless this staff member is not working the front counter. I don't know if every day is a bad day or if this man just never smiles, but his energy is probably the most foul I've encountered at ANY Golds gym I've ever been to. I'm not knocking him for doing his job, I've lost my tag and refuse to admit it since it's annoying to keep track of (It will get destroyed on my keychain). So I'm forced into prolonged contact with this person during check-in. He's got a job to do and I get it. BUT how to execute your job and the energy you carry with you is paramount. Especially at a gym where people, at least I do, go to drown their insecurities and bad energy from the workday. I go to Golds for a positive environment where I can lift heavy things and put them back down until I forgot I had a bad day. I go to recharge my drained body. I go so I can be angry at weights not people. But this freaking guy is killing my vibe. I've tried quite a number of times to make this dude smile and he just won't budge! So golds. Do yourself a favor. Don't put a large energy-draining soul at the very front for people to interact with at 6pm. I simply don't have the tolerance for someone that flat to talk to me. If he's gonna tell me something at least do it with a smile and pretend to be apologetic. It's your job. I know because it's my job to do the same and I do it well. This review is for all Golds gym and relates the the Corporate Office and their deceptive practices. According to consumer affairs (www.consumeraffairs.com), Gold's Gym is one of the most complained about facilities in terms of it's deceptive business practices. "Computer glitches" are "blamed" for some cases. I got a job, but had a lapse between unemployment and my first check. I was late on several things in February, but everyone was willing to work with me except Golds Gym. I called them and told them the circumstances and when I expected my next check and that I would also be late on March 29th, but would pay them the two months and late fees on the 4th of April. I knew I was behind and responsible for whatever the late fee would be, I expected around a 25-30 fee for each payment, even though one was only five days late. When I went to deposit my check, to my surprise I had overdraft fees totally $357 to my account, all due to Gold's Gym. They hit my account every three days, even after speaking to me. Then, after I cleared that up, they charged me $82.46 on April 7th, then another 57.46 on April 16th. Bottom line, they cost me $496 because of two late payments, one of which was only 6 days overdue. I had to pay $500.00 for two months at Gold's Gym. I went into a local gym, they said they emailed and faxed their Corporate contact, but they had not called them back. Nobody can tell me what these charges are for at Corporate. When I do get someone they are EXTREMELY RUDE and they told me they could do whatever they want "it is in my contract". This was devastating. After a year of being out of work (I was only late on my gym membership these two times), finally thinking I can catch up. This is one of the four Gold's I go to in Austin. I can't really say I have a favorite bc all of them have good and bad qualities and none are that great. This gym is alright. They built a movie cinema and have working wifi. Those are my two important things when I'm on my cardio machines. They have some room on the floor downstairs to workout and do any exercise you would like. There is no women's center, which I like in some of the other Gold's. This gym is a little more dirty than what I'm used to at the Bee Cave Gold's. I like the people who go to this gym better than the Bee Cave and Westlake Gold's. I don't feel like this one is full of the macho meat heads and more of people who want to workout and don't care how they look. I do feel like the machines are dirty and need to be cleaned more often as well as the locker room. A lot of the cardio machines look really old (could be bc they are dirty or they really are just old). I go to this gym more in the summer and some on the weekends. Like I said, I really like the wifi, I can bring my iPad and watch my own movies. read more

I've been a member of gyms all over the easy coast and multiple in Texas. This gym is great. The sales guy wasn't pushy at all to the point where the first sale guy showed me around, I did my free two weeks and when I actually joined, I signed up with a different sales guy (my original sales guy wasn't working the day I signed up). I really like this gym. It's clean, not crowded any normal workout time, the equipment is new or newish and it all works well, lots of options between machines, free weights, p90x gear, cross fit gear, even tires, ropes and sledge hammers. Upstairs they have elipticals, treadmills, bikes, rowers, a spin room and cardio cinema with full feature movies playing while you work out. Its really cool. You can really go nuts at this gym with variety. The folks are nice and after 6 months, I haven't seen any "lunks", just normal folks trying to get in shape. I even added a trainer and man what a difference. My trainer, Joseph is freakin awesome. Nice, down to earth guy, not a muscle meat head, doesn't push me to take supplements or anything crazy. Gives me some serious work outs, helps me eat more fruits and veggies, doesn't bitch and moan when I have a burger and doesn't try to sell me on crazy gimmicks. He's just a professional that knows how to help me get in shape. Hs specialty is core work outs and man is he good at it. I have a minor back issue that he always takes into consideration and I've been feeling better every week as I get stronger. I'm a smart guy and can get work out routines online, but Joseph really taylors the work outs to just what I need. He beats me up, but it's what I need . I'm really thankful for his expertise, professionalism and understanding. I've heard people complain about the parking?!? I don't get it, I don't go to a gym to park in the first space. There are always PLENTY of spaces, you just might have to walk and extra ten feet. Who cares? If you're that lazy, you prolly need the extra walk. The classes are pretty cool, I've checked a few out, they are just not what I need to do to get in the shape I'm looking for. Bt the step class will kick your butt!! It's high energy and I don't know how those women keep up. I can't talk to cancelations, because I don't plan to cancel anytime soon, but every gym I've ever been at has some ridiculous cancelation clauses. You should ALWAYS cancel in person. But I'm not worried about it. I like the gym, I like the gear, I like the variety and I'm super happy with my trainer, Joseph. read more

I absolutely love Golds! I enjoy having access to many locations and since I work nights, having several 24 hour facilities in the Austin area is very convenient. I go late, so I can't accurately assess the crowding issue. When I visit family in Dallas or Beaumont, I can also go to those gyms, which is awesome. This location is clean, and only lacking a pool (which can be found at other locations in the Austin area). I also use Tony as a personal trainer, and he is awesome. I would give "0" stars but that isn't an option. We recently moved and did not have a Gold's that was as convenient for us and so wanted to cancel our contract once it was set to renew. My wife went over to the location that we signed up at (which was OUT OF HER WAY) to inform them that we would not be renewing. The staff member said that she only needed to call in. So she went home and called in to cancel. They said "no problem - we will take care of it". Low and behold we get charged for ANOTHER contract.... We are both full time professionals and now have to add trying to cancel this membership which we have already attempted to do twice to everything else in our life that is going on. It appears that in a money grab to f*ck someone over into another year they have decide to give up on all future business should we move near a Gold's in the future or wanted to refer friends or family. This review is more towards one of the trainers, Chad Kornegay. I've been going to this gym for awhile and happened to ask for some pointers on overhead squats. Chad took the time to show me some rehabilitative stretching and activation techniques that made a HUGE difference. I ended up purchasing personal training sessions after that first encounter. Chad has such a strong foundation in physical therapy and athletic training that you get more than just a personal trainer. I've completed numerous stints of physical therapy yet never got what I have out of two sessions with Chad. He's not only helped me rehab some pesky injuries, he's helped take my workouts to a new level. That's impressive to do simultaneously. He's an extremely versatile trainer with expertise to coach beginners and body builders alike. read more

I know this manager hasn't been in this position for long but he has some serious anger problems, he gets mad so quickly and doesn't want to be bothered once he's angry, I've over heard him curse to his employees which to me is total disrespect!!!! I used to work close by this golds gym and overall the facility is not awesome. I just got off the phone with a Ryan Coultas, manager of the company and was told they can not cancel the membership until the balance is payed, therefor I was billed for an extra 4 months worth without my permission. Finally I cancelled my debit card on file and a dozen e-mails and phone calls later I still have to pay the balance of 300+ bucks after wanting to cancel via phone and email! Ok first of all - The refund policy is not posted anywhere inside of Gold's Gym nor do they give you any details about it if you do not ask. Also, they do not print it on your receipt. So without any knowledge of the refund policy, I signed up for a month at Gold's Gym which cost me 110$. I jumped on the treadmill that day then came back the next two days. The I started going to school so I decided I didn't want to have the gym membership anymore. Not only did they refuse to give me a refund but they also continued to charge me for months after wards. I had to call my insurance company and they disputed the charges, I was refunded BY MY INSURANCE company. They have a 3 day refund window, don't fall for their crap. How the hell is anyone supposed to know in 3 days if they like the gym or not?! Complete CRAP! read more

Worst Gym ever. I used a personal trainer but didn't get any results (Yes I watched diet and followed the scheduled work out). I went and cancelled the membership and the nightmare began. You can only cancel online. You don't get confirmation email but only a confirmation number on screen (You are supposed to save this).This was back in October. A week after cancelling I called the gym to confirm if they see my account as cancelled (Knowing its automated payment wanted to make sure). First time the person who picked up said he has no idea how to check this but will have someone call back. Never got the call. I called again and this time the staff member told me yes the account is cancelled. Yet I got charged for Dec (Not just for Nov which is policy). The staff at William Cannon who pick up phones are not trained well and are not responsive. Today I called and the manager picked up and she was rude. She was not ready to acknowledge there is some issue. She kept saying there is no record of any cancellation and I don't know who you talked to but I can't help you and if you want please call customer service. I said please connect me to your manager and she said, "I AM the manager". After multiple atttempts got through customer service today (The phone rang and just went blank mulitple times before it went through successfully to the options). I asked to cancel and reimburse the additional month and they refused. They cancelled my account though. I asked for email confirmation and they refused. I said I'm not going through this again coz the next time I call I'll hear the same story that there is no record. I need to have this email. Finally after much haggling I got an email confirmation of the cancellation. Worst facility, it smells like rubber. Locker room stinks. And you don't get results. Don't spend money on the personal trainers here. Lifetime on the other hand is a little on the expensive side but the staff is very considerate and goes the extra mile. Very poor customer service. I do not recommend ANY Gold's Gym to anybody. I lost my job and tried to cancel my membership with the gym. They failed to communicate that I needed to call a customer service line to officially cancel. Meanwhile, they continued billing me, without my knowledge. When I canceled the card they had been billing (still not knowing they were withdrawing from my account every 2 weeks), I received an inquiry in the mail for 2 months worth of membership fees along with card decline fees. I had not been to Gold's in 4 months. When I called the customer service line to try an straighten things out, I was told I had not correctly canceled my membership but that they could now do it for me. It was my understanding that the matter was taken care of and I would no longer recieve bills from them. 1 month later, I recieved yet another bill. I called again. Jessica Contreas RUDELY expressed to me that they did not care whether I had used the gym or not. I owed the money and she would not allow me to speak with her supervisor. She assured me no one would be able to help me out and clear me of the dues because they do not base it on usage of the gym. She told me it was my fault for not canceling correctly and only my assumption that they failed to communicate this to me. DO NOT GO TO GOLD'S!! ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS THEIR MONEY. I have been a member of golds gym for close to 20 years. My expectations are not that high. I can handle the lack of working paper towel or soap dispensers. I can over look the 'out of order' signs on the equipment. The membership is cheap and the ladies in the Kids club are super amazing so I can overlook certain things. i cannot however, overlook poor customer service. I recently was at the Wm Cannon location and noticed a drawing that depicted anal sex. I alerted the staff member and she agreed that it should not be there and the 50th anniversary banner should be for inspirational quotes. She said she would take care of it but the person she alerted (Amanda) felt that it was not necessary to remove the obscenity. When I asked this person, Amanda, she stated that she would not take it down and proceeded to argue with me over the merits of the obscenity. After a lengthy discussion she did scratch through the picture but it was still visible. Did I mention that it was 30 feet from the Kids Club or that children walk by it every day, all day?? I did speak to the general manager (Nick) and explained to me that the sign would be taken down but also explained to me that it was not anal sex but rather a 'heart' and that "if we looked into the sky we would all see different pictures." Clearly this was a battle of wills and they were determined to win the cause. The cause was lost on the fact that the obscenity was in view of minors and management did not care. this is also an example of how observant management is of the gym and its customers. read more

This is the best golds gym in Austin so far. I have been to several others but always come back home with bad taste in my mouth. sometimes, there are so many people in the evening that Its hard to get machines, or to get into the classes they are offering. Sometimes machines are not working..anyways, I like this location because Its convenient, close to my office, clean, I always get towels and machines that I need to work on (although they are pretty busy too) staff is nice, trainers and classes are great....there childcare facility is clean as well and parking is ample.. read more

If this was a review of the instructors, this would be 5 stars, but sadly, this is a review of the equipment. The "women's" weight room is a joke - filled with 1980's equipment that was most likely filling a storage room somewhere, with roughly half of the machines broken. My biggest complaint, though, is the spin bikes - I come to this gym for spin, and the wonderful instructors (like Kelly K!), but over the past couple of years, these bikes have become unsafe and need to be replaced. We have all filled out comment cards (til they removed the comment box), talked to the managers on duty, answered the emailed surveys, and complained mightily about the sad state of our spin bikes. I just heard from a friend that goes to Bee Caves, that they just got new spin bikes - are you kidding me? We have about 5 decent bikes out of a room with 25, and you have to get there super early and try several bikes until you find one that works. This class fills up completely most days, and it never fails that at least 2 or 3 bikes are off in a corner because they are broken, and the rest make awful squealing noises or the resistance knobs don't work properly. This is a safety issue, and frankly, it is insulting that we have been disregarded even though we certainly pay for decent equipment. There are 3 gyms within 5 minutes of this one. I don't want to leave, but this owner needs to invest in this property - and we need new spin bikes immediately! read more

This is not really a review of the gym itself but it is a review of their customer service/billing service. I do like working out here but recently they have been having some billing issues. All of a sudden for some reason they're having trouble charging my card. It had almost been a month since they charged me. I found out when I started receiving automated messages from them. Could've been helpful if the staff alerted me to this while I checked into the gym. So on Nov 1st I went to pay the membership fee and the guy said he waived the late fee. Today I get another automated call with the same message. I call one of the gyms up and the guy says now there are 40 dollars worth of late fees. He then told me the system failed to charge me on Nov 2nd and that the last guy didn't get rid of the first late fee. So this guy told me that he would waive both the late fees but I had still had to pay membership fee for the second. So I paid the full months membership fee already. My guess is this going to be a recurring thing so I'm most likely going to cancel my membership. My employer offers a decent gym with the same equipment just missing the sauna. Just going to cut my losses. I find it very odd that after having the same card on file for almost a year, they are suddenly having trouble charging me. Extremely annoying and inconvenient read more

I joined the Gold's Gym on William Cannon Dr, and Mopac in Austin. I alerted the gym to my relocation out of the area, the last of November, where there is no Gold's gym with in 75 miles. I was told by the the club that I had to go online to cancel my membership. so I did. Three weeks later I got calls that my dues were late. I was then told that my membership was not cancel because I was under contract that I knew nothing about. After calling corporate, I emailed the documentation providing proof of relocation. Today I received a call from the club telling me i was late with my dues and there was a late fee. So to make a long story short, I give them zero start since I am being asked to pay for something I have not used since November. So if you want to be overcharged, lied to about being under contract that you have no knowledge you signed, and given the run around, go ahead and join! read more
