I have a membership because they're within walking distance of my house. Customer service is a joke here. They act as if they're doing you a favor by letting you pay them. Almost all complaints will be ignored so don't waste your breath. The "manager" is one of the most insufferable and cocky individuals I think I have ever met. Until patronaging this place, I have never had a "manager" display such indifference and downright rudeness to a simple request / question. I'm a God and Police fearing woman but seriously, this mofo was about to get it one day regarding the renewal of a lapsed membership. That's right, I was trying to re-new and these fools still didn't know how to act. Beyond befuddled ... I would love to take a class, like zumba, yoga, or pilates here. They offer them but they construct the class schedules under the guise that everyone is unemployed. Scheduling some of these classes, or dare I say it, all of these classes on at least one of the weekend days, in addition to the regular work week, would be very appreciated and um, considerate. At this rate, I'll have to skip work to get a pilates workout in. The cardio theatre and the lady's only room is the saving grace of this place for me. Please don't go to this gym. It is not worth the headache. The facility is nice but, the customer service is horrible. I live bicoastal I'm a student and all of the hidden fees are draining me. I haven't been to this gym since September yet my frozen account has been reinstated and I'm now getting charged fees. When I called them to explain that I haven't been there to reinstate my contract or even visited this gym they snapped at me and told me I can't cancel the account unless I'm in person or mail them a letter and I still need to pay them. This didn't just happened to me I have a close friend that the same thing happened to. They don't tell you when the annual membership fee ( an additional fee to your monthly and starter fees) will be withdrawn. They just take the money and then say Oh Well. They manipulated me into not canceling my account and I'll never go back there again. It honestly hasn't been worth any of the stress, it's pitiful. I don't want to support a business with horrible customer service and no tact. On top of that the billing manager is never in office. I've called over 4 times and I've only gotten her once. They would prefer that you never try to quit. First, I call and ask what I have to do to quit. They say you have to quit in person, that's all. Okay, no problem. Show up and find out you need a manager to quit, and of course there is no manager working today. Ask when a manager will be available, and they say tomorrow. Really, no manager today, but one will be here on Easter Sunday? Okay, see you on Easter Sunday, with a hand written letter saying I want to quit because apparently that is another requirement to quit as well. So Easter Sunday arrives, and I leave friends and family to go quit the gym. I get there and a manager is there. But guess what, only the General Manager can process terminations and I was told to come back tomorrow. I ask about being charged additional membership fees, and they say that they might not be able to not charge me for May. It is April 8th, BTW. The facility is fine, but small. I joined this gym in March of 2013 as a way to get in a work out at lunch time. I didn't care about any frills, I just wanted a decent squat rack, dumbbells, and an area to do a personalized workout. So far it's met and exceeded my expectations on that front. Pros- Up to date equipment, multiple racks, clean gym, friendly front desk members, short wait times with the 12pm crowd, can use group exercise room when there are no classes going on Cons- I've been a member of Gold's in the past and knew they always try to get you to overpay so I got my membership through the website for 9.99 a month with a month to month contract. When I went in to finish the paperwork the guy I worked with was super annoyed and rude to me because I didn't want to sign up for the $40 a month year long contract membership. The only other complaint I have is that people don't re-rack their weights which is a pain. Overall decent gym and you get what you pay for. read more

Poorly managed gym. Attempted to cancel membership due to heading to premier gym. Gym manager had poor customer service skills. Had to wait for her availability and when she arrived, she had this cavalier "what the &$@$ do you want?" attitude. This is the second time that I've had issue with this manager and her condescending tone. This is one of the reasons why I got away from franchised-run gyms. No corporate culture. I like working out here waaaaay better than Planet Fitness. I don't have to worry about someone in my ear fussing about me utilizing my bluetooth whilst going ham on a machine or a headscarf. I negotiated a month to month contract that only allows me to use that gym and take classes. I don't require much. The bathrooms are clean for the most part. However, thee are some nasty women there who seem to believe that they don't have to clean up after themselves. For the most part, people wipe equipment down but you also have some gross people who don't. I love spin and will be looking into yoga. Andre, Lori, Madra, and Tee are great. Love them. They really encourage to go beyond what you think your limits are. I feel great after spin classes on Saturday and Sunday. My only gripes would be: 1. People, including PTs, fail to return equipment or weights to there rightful place. Or folks fail to re-rack 2. Those women who don't exercise good hygiene, stop up the toilet, don't flush or are just grossly messy all around. The gym has no control over that but ladies come on...BE WOMEN. 3. I LOVE SPIN...Do us a favor and invest in new bikes. I was on three this weekend and though I did well, I can feel how they can inhibit a good workout or even compromise form. We all pay enough for you to do that much. 4. If space ever becomes available to expand the walls. Do just that please and thanks. read more

The young white girl who is the manager is rude, unprofessional and lacking customer service experience, which will cause the gym to loose customers or members. I have been going to this for pass 2 years. It's a nice gym but the front desk team is not nice. I pay extra just so I can bring in a friend or guest with me. Everything is less than 2 years old in this gym. They have 2 of the new Precor AMT elliptical's, more than a dozen treadmills, a cool movie theater room. The circuit training room has good machines. The " Classic Golds Area " has loads of dumb bells. There is a massage table and tanning machine ( extra fee ). As another reviewer said, the group class schedule is weak and needs improvement. Also, the staff is hit or miss. If you can work out in the morning time you have the run of the place and won't have to wait for anything. In the evenings, well...it can be a meat market or a meat head market. Cool gym! My wife and I gave up our 15 plus year Bally's membership ( what a dated gym in Greenbelt that was ) to join this brand new club. Thanks Golds for coming to my neighborhood! I read the negative reviews about the personal training program, its policies, and its employees of the Gold Gym. However, my experience with the personal training program has been very positive and deserving of 5 stars. Years ago when I met with a personal trainer at the Gold Gym in Bowie, MD; I realized that the person I was meeting with could not sell me anything. In fact, he made me quite uncomfortable. Then years later when I was much heavier and older, I decided to reconsider hiring a personal trainer and explored my options. So I called Gold Gym again. This time, Kevin answered the phone and assured me that the personal training program was under new management. This was refreshing to hear, so I made an appointment to meet with him. The meeting went well. I felt that Kevin was a man of integrity and disclosed everything I needed to know (including how to end the contract). He made sure that I knew exactly what I was signing up for, and that I was matched with a trainer that would meet my fitness goals. When I was matched with George, I saw Kevin's intuitive managerial skills in action. George's training style is high impact, but he does not ignore his client's limitations or physical needs. I highly recommend both Kevin and George, because their training styles, personalities, and commitment to their client's needs are unparalleled. read more

The gym is good all around. I use their equipment (yes fairly new!) to take a break from running outside and also take advantage of the spinning and zumba classes.The RPM classes rock! I appreciate the Lady's only area quite a bit. There's also a cardio cinema area for those seeking entertainment while working out. The ladies/gentlemen at the front desk are frinedly and will go out of their way to help/answer any questions. Very clean showers and changing area. No towel service though. Could improve on adding more yoga classes/schedules. Overall good! read more

This is my NEW gym b/c my insurance now covers big BOX gyms. I was actually happy to leave my small gym b/c they were trife - review forthcoming. Anywhoo - this place has all the latest and greatest equipment, is clean, well staffed and just plain ole good. I go in the AM and shower there - I always see the lady cleaning. This gym is mediocre at best. I joined the gym because of the price. In less than a week I had to cancel my membership due to the lack of customer service and the unruly customers. This gym is not for the working professional. The people in the gym are rude and appear to be thugs. The staff does nothing to enforce gym rules. You sign up for classes and show up 10 minutes early to check in and still people take your bike. You go to the sauna and people are on their phones and talking loud. The Gym is fairly new, so all the equipment and workout areas are top-notch. They also have a Cardio Cinema room filled with various workout equipment. So you can go into the cardio cinema and watch a movie while you workout. It definitely makes the workout goes by a lot faster. As far as the trainers, I would say there are 2 serious trainers in there but I dont know their names. I would waste my time with the other trainers if you are serious about your fintess goals. read more

Been coming here for about a year, 3-4×/week. Average/regular gym. Really nothing special other than the price. Very affordable. The child care area looks Nice and clean. Very Few staff is friendly and say hi, most of them don't care about you and don't acknowledge you at all, which is fine for people like me. But not very welcoming to beginers, or new people. The dumbbells are 95% of the time out of place or all over the floor. Very busy during peak hours makes it hard to get a good workout around the free weight area, and impossible around the cross fit area since trainers block it off to train their clients. Plenty of cardio machines. Only one heavy bag, makes it inconvinient. The Abs section is very small, and most of the time busy since only a handful of people fit comfortably, which also takes away the space for the heavy bag. Locker room is average, and they do try to maintain it. However the broken lockers have been broken for months, I guess they don't care. I don't use the sauna, but it seems ok for the people who do use it. I don't use the massage chairs, the tanning section, or the Cardio Cinema, But it also seems ok. Overall, an average gym, that's opened 24/7, that's also affordable and has child care. Not very big gym, and can get very busy, especially between 5 and 8 pm on weekdays. Plenty of parking. Worth it if you live close to it. read more

Of all the Gold's locations I've been to in the area, this one is tied for second place with Marley Station. Sorry guys, but Largo has you all beat. I like this one because it's convenient for me to stop by after work, has plenty of close parking, and is easy to get in and out. The class schedule works well for me, and I really like the Body Pump class......what a great concept! This is a bit smaller than some of the other Gold's locations, but the equipment is up to date and the staff have been friendly so far. My only issue is that the other members don't do a very good job of cleaning up after themselves. I've seen several who don't bother to wipe down the equipment, don't re-rack the weights, and leave trash in the locker room. Come on ladies......be considerate! read more

Recently joined this gym and I am pleasantly happy with the gym. It is a new gym and therefore has all new equipment. Features include cinema room, massage area, womens workout room, free weights, rope climbing, etc. If I am really in a hurry, there is a circuit where I can get a complete workout in 30 mintes or less! Lots and lots of classes with motivational trainers! The only downfail that I see is that the classes fill up very quickly and they have implemented a sign-in sheet that doesn't quite work like it should! read more

Was in the market for a new gym after relocating to Laurel. Not recommended. On my second day of using a guest pass, I met Karissa Dodson, the assistant general manager who rolled her eyes at me, spoke condescendingly and smirked during our interaction. There's plenty of other gyms in the area that offer better than outdated equipment that the Bowie option provides. And less nasty assistant managers on an ego trip. I am completely and utterly disgusted with the customer service quality at Golds gym Bowie location. I have been a member for 2+ years. I recently moved and notify the staff of this move. However, they still want to charge me a month in advance. My commute to this location is is over an hour not including rush-hour traffic. When I asked the general manager Tara Layliev to dispute this charge she looked at me matter-of-factly, rudely and said no. She expects me to drive an hour away to to go to the gym. This baffles me especially when my complex has a nice gym in my location. Then she would not provide me with the franchise or corporate number. DO NOT GO TO GOLDS GYM IN BOWIE. I bought a one-month Groupon deal for the gym because I wanted to see what the gym is like, and I'm definitely glad that I am not under contract with this gym. The front desk staff is rude, inattentive, and not friendly at all. When I walked in and went to the front desk the manager acted like he didn't even see me and spoke to a few customers behind me. I've been going to the Bowie Gold's Gym since 2011. Recently all the benches have been removed from the Men's locker room. I've asked personnel staff and management but no one can explain why and with no assurance to replace them. This is unacceptable to me and will probably drive me to another gym. The gym is not the greatest but is convenient. I've complained but without success. There is a big hole in the wall in the Men's locker room. Also many lockers are broken and in severe need of repair or replacement. My conclusion is management does not care but I do. read more

Let me start off by saying, this gym is great! The classes they offer, the instructors...Almost everything makes it worth it. These are the reasons i gave this place any stars at all, and in my opinion it would be a 5 star if it was for 1 thing they are lacking in.... CUSTOMER SERVICE. 1. The rules and regulations only apply here when wanted. for instance my wife and I wanted to do the spinning class on a sunday morning. We logged into motion vibe and signed up. We arrived ten minuets early, and all the bikes were taken. Obviously people went to the class with out signing up. When bringing this to the front desk attention, the woman said oh know thats not right, and stated she would let the manager know. We ended up waiting an hour to do body pump instead. When finished with class, we went to the front desk, and the gentleman stated i wish you would have told me, i would have stopped the class. What makes it so different that i told the woman at the front desk who agreed to it not being right, but resumed to not do anything. AND I DID SAY SOMETHING, YOU JUST DID NOTHING. 2. Now this is what really irritates me. When i signed the contract, nothing stated i needed to have my picture taken. So a few months ago, i was stopped by a gentleman who requested to do so, he then brought out his manager after stating to me that the manager lets some people go with the picture on a case by case situation. i believe his name was Anthony. He couldn't come up with an answer as far as why i had to do so, other than to protect his clients. I stated well u can put a note in my acc to check my ID every time i go to the gym. Not willing to listen, and after stating this was a new policy and they ask everyone to do so, my wife went later the same day to the gym, her pic not being on file either. She scanned in, no one stopped her.. A little funny to me, i then walked in and wanted to see Anthony again. After back and fourth for OVER an hour... He finally agreed to let me not take a picture. Now today, i get stopped again, after months with out having the picture on file, guess by who? The same gentleman who stopped me before. Stated there is a new manager and she comes out, not really listening to what i have to say just repeats this is a new policy. Again no answer to why i must do so if it is not in my contract. Apparently if they can breech the contract so can I. Learn customer service, PLEASE because your staff here know's nothing of it. Now with that being said, i love the GYM it self, it has everything you need.... Deplorable conditions in the morning. I have had enough of being disrespected by the staff. Not worth the little money you pay for membership. I normally get to the gym at 5am when it opens. The place is filthy. There are used paper towels and empty bottles all over the place. The free weight area has weights all over the floor and equipment. My complaints in email and phone calls are never returned. I spoke to one of the staff this morning about the conditions. He said that the members share the blame for not cleaning up after themselves in the evening. Today was my last day. I'm cancelling my membership. I never had this problem at SportFit. read more

The equipment and what the gym has to offer are nice, but the Assistant General Manager, Alex and some of the sales rep, one in particular Kelsey are very disloyal. Alex is a very arrogant, self-absorbed, macho guy who thinks he knows every and anything, when he really does not know a damn thing. Kelsey at first was very pleasant and helpful, but then when it came down to a complaint I had, she was very unattentive, a liar, and does not have great customer service at all. As an individual who strives on great customer service, I feel it is extremely important to make each customer feel comfortable, not dumb, nor are you just interested in their money. Alex has a great job displaying all three, which in my opinion is not a great Assistant General Manager. I am very displeased with this gym and have cancelled my membership due to the lack of professionalism, care and loyalty from these two alone. That is not to say that the other reps and employees are not genuiene, but what I have seen thus far, I am only pleased with a couple of them. Did my first workout and returned for a second within specified 7 days. He asks to talk to me at the counter and takes me to a sitting area. Offers me a deal which I say I'll think about. Then he throws my ID card across the table and tells me to leave. At some point I even thought that he was going to get physical and push me out the gym. Extremely rude. read more

Having been member of a Gold's Gym before and currently a Planet Fitness member, I had high expectations when I decided to try the facility out for the first time this past weekend. The gym has everything you can imagine from an equipment and fitness class standpoint. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous, and the gym is very tidy and well kept by not just the staff, but other members. I definitely plan on quitting Planet Fitness and rejoining the Gold's Gym brand. Truth is, you get what you pay for...four thumbs up! read more

I left this gym on 06/04/2019 sat in my car & cried like a child.I felt less human thanks to how the female manager(Not sure what her name is)treated me.She sized me up,shrugged and acted like I stink.That not withstanding she repeatedly cut through my questions & told me they were irrelevant I moved from Texas last year & was yet to move my car, so I needed a 24hours gym near largo town center where I could easily Uber to. Googled & Gold's gym came up.Of course capitol heights is closer but I chose Fairwood bc it seemed smaller. I'm crowd shy.Walked into this gym & registered.(3 days trail period)Went back the next day & that was my last.This was sometime around Mid December 2018. Started feeling pain in my abdomen, couldn't make it back to the gym.Went to the ER and was told I couldn't leave bc I was abt to have emergency surgery. I called as many bodies as I could & Golds gym was one of them.Explained that I wld not be able to workout for close to 4 months & needed my account cancelled.Never called back to ensure it was cancelled bc I was worried abt getting well only, When U have an organ removed, believe me all U think abt is your life. December 2018 - May 10th 2019 was a nightmare but Glory to God I survived. During that period I barely took any calls bc my meds made me drowsy all the time.One fateful day I took a call from an unknown number and they said I owe Golds gym $199. I called to cancel before I had surgery.The caller asked if I had physical proof? No!. I called from a hospital bed & that was over 5 months ago.He said well U owe us then.Told him I would contact Golds gym considering they can pull up my account & see that after registration I have no check ins. I called this location on 06/03/2019. Spoke with a certain Joewy.I guess that was what he said.He was VERY RUDE. Explained to him I had no check ins, I was in & out of the hospital this whole time.He blatantly told me that was not important, I need to stop wasting my time and his.I should sort myself out with collections.Wow!Asked to speak with a manger and he said she cant help U.Sir how can U be so insensitive?What is your name again? He said something like 'Joewy" DID YOU GET THAT?' before he hung up. I was scared to go back to that location bc I had been through a lot with my health and in a place where I run away from negative energy. Went to the location on Capitol heights. OMG they were so sweet.Told them what happened and how rude someone from Fairwood was to me. One of the ladies, (slim petite,very light skinned) Pulled up my account & said you have no checkins. Go back there, Forget what the front desk officer said. Speak with the manager. She should be able to help you. Its not like you used the service & don't want to pay. You have no checkins so she can help. She even said we can let you work out here today if you want to.That was so kind. Being down for almost 5 months I gained 30 pounds & desperately want to lose it. However I declined. I would rather have a clean record 1st. I wish I had gone to another gym rather than go to Fairwood & get treated like I was not human.Of course I had receipts from my medical bills which was up to $11000. Had billing dates printed out in black and white, Part of the bill clearly stated, surgical fee. Billing cycle started Jan 23 up to May 10th. I was and i'm still not comfortable sharing my medical history with non-family. Psychologically I'm yet to get over all I went through. The manager glanced through it and told me all that was irrelevant to her. First of all I was supposed to pay on Jan 3rd. But I was admitted in December. Jan 23rd was only my 1st billing date up until May 10th. I said Maam, you do have my account infront of you, you can tell I never used any of your services, Never checked in. I'm well & ready to return to the gym now but I need to clear this record 1st. So it really doesn't mean anything to you that I just got out of the hospital, I did not use any of your services? I did call someone but never followed up to see if this person cancelled my account. She shrugged and told me again that was irrelevant to her. She even compared my life to that of a car. She said if you buy a new car, and don't use it that's on you. You still have to pay for the car. I was shocked. Ma'am, could you please print my record, so I can attach it to a written letter & send to collections? She looked at me like dirt, laughed & said Collections work for me.They cant help you.Bring me a Dr'S NOTE. I WILL SEE WHAT TO DO. I had my billing cycle and all my records from Jan - May 10th right there with me but she said go back & bring a Dr's note. If she even said it in a nice way I wouldn't mind. She was V-RUDE & kept looking at me like I STINK. I used to love my Gold's Gym in Ashburn VA. Not super crazy about this one. It is WAY too crowded and I am seriously considering switching to L.A. Fitness when they open in Bowie Town Center...they will have a pool! What bugs me is using the free weight room the dumbells are always strewn about never where they belong...its not so much the gyms fault as it is the very rude people who use the gym. Recent renovations have left the windows on the ladies side unshaded free and clear for the public to view workouts. This is okay during the day but very uncomfortable at night. Many of the ladies talk about it but not sure if they've talked to management. When I spoke to a manager she was very matter of fact and uninterested. She told me to fill out a survey and there was no way to share my concerns with the owners. The desk staff are pleasant but I'm found the managers to have poor customer service skills. I've been working out here almost everyday for about 3 years now and have very mixed feelings about it. On one hand, they have nice equipment, bench press, deadlift area, free weights, tons of cardio equipment, movie theater with bikes and treadmills, massage chair, tanning bed, lots of different classes, etc. I pay $30/month, which if you actually go is not that bad. The cons are people here are extremely inconsiderate. People will rack up 8 45lb plates on the bench, work out, AND GET UP AND LEAVE IT! Not wipe off their sweat or take the weights off (and if they do they just lay them on the floor or up against a wall). So you have to wipe down a machine, take a bunch of plates off, rerack them where they belong, put the weights you want on, then wipe the machine down, and put the weights back again when your done. There's stuff laying EVERYWHERE, free weights, bars, medicine balls, ropes, mats, and half the time it's not even on the same side of the gym as the rack where its supposed to be. People just leave it on the ground where ever they used it. Even when the staff puts stuff back where it belongs, it doesn't matter because of how inconsiderate everyone is, it's trashed again by the time their done. They recently put up little signs with the rules on them, but no one enforces them, and no one follows them. This is mostly between the hours of 4:30-10pm, during the day it's usually in order. So, if you don't mind wiping down machines, taking tons of plates off, searching through all the stuff laying on the floor around the entire gym to find the bar or weight you want, and can go between the hours of 11-5 then it's a pretty good gym. read more

This is a review only of the child care. The gym is VERY nice and the equipment is great, but the child care, do not even think about trying it! First of all, I've witnessed not one, but two very rude employees who looked like they were simply bummed to be assigned to the area. One of them actually yelled at a kid while I was checking in mine saying that he "better pick up those toys", and she continued to yell at other kids even while she knew that I was watching. Never once did she get up from the corner she was sitting at and the whole time she was sitting there with the other employees complaining about how many kids they had the night prior. Now don't get me wrong, I do believe that kids need to pick up after themselves,etc, but yelling is not cool. It also baffles me as to what their role is, can they really watch the kids in that huge room while sitting in a little corner? Then the unthinkable happened. I checked in my kid and my husband checked him out, which is unacceptable! It also points to a total disregard for the safety of the kids and an absolute lack of basic child care policies designed to protect kids while under their care. Now think of this for a moment, my husband may very well be in the same membership, but the attendant had no way of knowing if we were in the middle of a custody dispute. This is how kids get kidnapped people! Luckily that wasn't the case, but take the advice, do not leave your kids there. It's unsafe and very unpleasant. A real shame considering the space and potential they have. If I were the manager I would at least hire people for the area who LIKE kids, that would be an immediate improvement. read more
