I have been a member year for a few years. I enjoy the group exercsie classes the most. Some can get a little crowed on weekends though, come early to claim your space. The kids club is great for smaller children. They provide movies and games to keep the kiddies entertained. The equiptment is up to date and well kept. Members and staff are friendly. read more

I went there to join but wanted to check this place out. I live literally less than 3 min from here. I had 7 day VIP trial membership. I didn't print it out but had it in my phone, 2 young women told me I could not, even for one day...she wouldn't budge and wasn't friendly. Golds will NOT be my gym of choice. They have awful customer service and they weren't that crowded on a Saturday morning. Their employees need more training. I sent the manager an email and let's see if he responds but I'm not holding my breath. Awful and disappointed as I wanted to support my county's business. Will be going elsewhere for sure read more

Avoid this gym! They will mislead you, take your money and then refuse to refund it. I went to ask about a membership, said I would consider it and that I would pay cash if I returned. But I stupidly also filled out the forms GM Tara told me to fill out, including my debit card information. Tara failed to explain the papers WERE the 12-month contract, and that the charges would start immediately. A little birdie essentially told us this is standard operating practice -- they're banking on the money from the percentage of people who fail to complain, or hey, refusing to refund the money even if you do. Today, after several complaints in person, by telephone and email, I was told they would "as a courtesy" refund the $30 monthly membership fee but NOT the $50 activation fee. This is incredibly shady practices and the GM knows it, because she refuses to show her face or answer phone calls, instead sending out lower level managers to "handle" the situation. read more

Absolutely love this gym!!!! This gym for me is convenient. It's not far from my home, the hours are from 5am-11pm Mon.-Fri. which is perfect for me. The gym, is open on Sat. & Sundays too, but I'm not sure of the hours. I love this gym, all the staff are so friendly! I used to come in as soon as they opened in the morning, 5:00am and was always greeted with a friendly smile. The personal trainers are all very knowledgeable in what they do. I've had the pleasure of working with three of the trainers and I must say, out of the three all were good. However, two were great!!!! Their names are Sidney and Rick. They are there all the time!! Always willing to show you new and improved ways to execute an exercise or movement. These two trainers are truly dedicated to the people they train. If you need someone to give you that extra push in your work out regimen, and help you be accountable to what you eat, then you need to converse with them. They're always brainstorming and giving you ideas on different ways to prepare food with less fat. This gym has a cinema room (totally love this room, I'm always in there) this room is where members go to workout and watch a movie at the same time. This gym, also offers spinning sessions, group workout sessions, yoga & pilate sessions and Kinesis. This gym has a weight and toning room, and they also have reasonably priced beverages and protein bars. Oh yeah, this gym also offers a separate room dedicated to women only. So for you women out there who dislike working out in front of men, this is the place where you will have total privacy. It is equipped with everything ellipticals, treadmills, weights, mats, strength balls, etc. The women's bathroom is always clean, a huge plus!!!! Inside the women's bathroom is a sauna, works pretty well. Lastly, the gym even offers childcare for the members who wish to workout and have their little ones with them. My three children love this place and so do I. The staff in the childcare area are so good with all kids. They really interact with the children. They play with them, do arts and crafts with them, watching movies, play video games on the computer, and I think they even have the Wii game, my son loves that. When we come in, Monica the manager she says, "Anthony you want me to get the game set up", (I so dig her attitude and the fact that she remembers all my children's name) The area is always clean!!!! I workout here at least 5-6 times a week and I love it. Its a small local gym but the movie theater is great, equipment is decent and the staff along with PT are very friendly. I only have one small problems with Gold's. I really think the gym should expand a little bit. I love the idea of a local gym where everyone knows each other but lets face it, from 5-7 the gym is packed! I am not suggesting that they make a second level and add a swimming pool like the Gold's/ LA Fitness in Crofton but a little more space would suffice. read more

They let me negotiate a flat fee for two months and were nice enough to give me access to group classes. I sought this gym out because I'm in the area only temporarily and didn't want to have to fight with a gym to get automatic payments stopped (looking at you PF). The gym is nice. It has alot more features that PF doesn't offer (although to be fair it is more $$$). Doesn't get too busy. Employees have been nice to me. The bathroom has been pretty clean in my experience. My only complaint is some of the cardio equipment is loud (i.e. sounds like a belt or something is about to break) and one time they randomly closed 2hr early on a Friday. read more

Small, but very capable Gold's. I would say the best part of this gym is it's gritty feel in the weight room. There are 4 benches altogether (1 seemingly close competition-grade), 1 power rack, 1 squat rack, and plenty of barbells to go around. Great place to start if you want to get into serious lifting. read more

I just started going to the Gold's in Bowie. The cardio equipment (i.e. Elliptical) is very outdated. I was surprised. I've been to the one at Ritchie Station. That location seem to get more new equipment and the latest in cardio and weight training (i.e. Jacobs Ladder, belt squat machine) I would love to see a better variety of equipment at the location in Bowie since it is closer to where I live. read more

I received terrible customer service from Karissa D. at Golds Gym. I recently moved to VA and when I called to ask how to cancel my membership at the Bowie location I was told I either needed to come in to cancel or send a certified letter. Instead of taking the 35 minute drive to cancel a gym membership I sent the certified letter. I was never told that 30 day notice was needed. When I called Bowie to confirm cancellation I was told that I would be charged another month due to the 30 day notice requirement. I asked for the manager, Karissa who was very nonchalant and did not try to assist. Considering I have been a member at Bowie for at least 10 years and have since joined a Golds in VA I would like to think I could get better service. When I asked for the information to make a formal complaint she told me she had no manager that I could speak with except the owners and she wouldn't give out their information. Karissa isn't customer service oriented in any way and seems to rest on the fact that there is no one above her as far as management. read more

I went into this golds gym today to get back on track with my work out routine after having been out for a few months. I live 5 minutes away and it was the perfect opportunity. I had a 7 day guess pass to try it out but I already knew I was going to join because It had everything I needed. I called ahead of time and spoke with someone and asked them if my guest pass is valid if I come in today and want to work out. They said as long as I haven't came in and activate the pass it was valid to exercise today. He asked if I had a ID. I told him I have a NJ ID seeing as I just moved from New Jersey. He said you're okay to come in and use the pass. Fast forward now I'm in the gym with my friend eager to get back after talking about this all day. Then came the pushy manager/sales person Karissa. I filled out all required paperwork and we were about to go on a tour when she started going over deals/specials. I had already known what monthly package I was getting since I had already known I was going to join the gym. She kept trying to up-sell me. "just fill this out" she says when she hands me her cracked iPhone to put in my private information along with credit credit card info. I explained to her that I'm only here to activate my 7 day pass and sign up at the end of the week. She kept saying, "oh it's only one dollar to start, & you can cancel anytime" (trying to get a sale) but I was already set on what we came to do. After trying to overcome my objections, she finally said okay I have to hold on to your ID when you workout. I said fine, since I already knew to bring it. I hand it to her and she says oh you can't use this ID here.. (WHAT?) I explained to her that I just moved and have not yet changed over my license. She was very stern on not letting me use the facility, even after I explained to her that I had purposefully called in earlier to make sure that I can come in and even showed her my phone with the call that was placed only 12 minutes before I walked in. She was determined not to let me use the facility. Claiming that it's some policy b.s. with a huge grin on her face. I was so upset. Then she says "You can still sign up and use the facility today." I was amazed, I asked her, so you mean to tell me that I can sign up today with this ID but I can't use this ID for my free trial? She goes "Yep". I couldn't help but laugh. This was a manager/sales person that was so eager to get a sale that they did not asses a customers needs/wants. Even after I called ahead and got the okay to come down and start my trial today. She is not someone I would want to do business with and I suggest you stay away from this gym. Oh by the way Karissa, immediately after leaving your facility I went to Golds Gym in Capitol Heights and received amazing customer service. Wasn't pushy, asked questions & even gave me a tour before talking about membership. & guess what? I signed up on the spot. Wow look at that.. Maybe you should train yourself and your "staff" about your policy a little better next time before you waste someone's time and energy. Stay away from this gym. On three different occasions my card on file has been charged for miscellaneous items even though I did not visit on those days. Today I had the same problem and when I called I was put on hold for a good 12 minutes. Finally I was told I had to call back and talk to the lady who does billing or the manager. The gentleman didn't seem to care at all, no apology was offered and he could have taken my phone for someone to call but I guess it is my problem. read more

A very new, but very basic gym. It features a cardio cinema, where you can watch movies while on an elliptical or cardio machine of your choice. I doubt anyone actually stays in the theater for the entire movie, I mean 90 minutes on an elliptical is a bit much. They have a regular cardio area, with a few flat screens to watch, unfortunately the only way you can listen to them is through an FM radio. It would be more convenient to have headphone jacks on the machines. There is a general group fitness room, a cycle room and a mind, body, spirit room for pilates and yoga. They have Kinesis (a "new" form of pilates) machines in the mind/body room, but you have to pay extra for a one-on-one training sessions. My biggest problem with them is how few group fitness classes they have scheduled. They have yoga scheduled only twice a week and at two different times. I usually do strength training and cardio on my own, but sometimes I'd like to pop into a class, but there aren't many options. The hours are OK, but they're killing me with the lack of group fitness. read more

If I could put no stars I would, the general manager has a attitude out of this world! Karissa is nasty and she thinks just because she's the manager she can talk to people any way she wants. Customer service does mean something in this world, There are plenty of gyms with equipment out here. I see reviews on here and apparently she treats all customers this way smh. I will be taking these matters to corporate. I am a fitness enthusiast and I am encouraging all of my followers/ friends to go to a different gym/ location. One of the worst Gold's Gym that I have ever been to. Very rude staff with one lady in particular. Asked other staff members about her attitude and they said that she was from New York and that was just her! Manager is very unapproachable and she and the staff usually only speak to certain members as it seems. There are a few young people there that are pleasant and hospitable. Proving that there are a few good staff there, but very poor leadership. Had a problem with my membership at the time and tried to discuss it with the manager and was re-directed to the membership manager who apologized to me for the managers rudeness. I believe with the right leadership that the gym could really do well. I was considering to re join the gym after being away for about a year and a half and was told that the same manager is still in charge. So I guess that I will stay at a less equipped gym, but they are nice a friendly and that goes a long way theses days. read more

First, read carefully what you sign .I joined at the front desk and asked repeatedly about the monthly fee. I did not have the employee (who turns out to be the asst manager since moved to another location) print the contract out. He assured me a monthly fee of 20 bucks -no other membership annual fees etc. LOW AND BEHOLD here is an annual membership fee on my credit card. Inquired at the club and the response was "everybody pays the annual memerbership fee" they must have heard this from other members. If they get 40 bucks from every member..well you figure it out. Think I'll take it up with the BBB and the state of Maryland. Its not the $40. Its the fact that the employee(s) are bold face liars. All he had to say is that there is also an annual membership fee. Upfront and honest. Then we know where we stand. Feel a little like I went used car shopping. As for the facility, nobody has the common courtesy to put a weight back and personal hygiene is not a concern for many. I wear a Hoodie with the hood up. I don't want to sit on equipment in other peoples nastiness. Cancelled my membership today. Of course I am bound to the end of march. This Gold's Gym definitely deserves a definite thumbs down. I had three particular instances where offensive statements were made regarding some issues that didn't concern anything about workout routines or workout ethics. The statements that were made were false and when i made several calls to report them to the manager "Pattie", or who she self proclaimed herself to be which she stated that she currently holds the managerial position at this particular Gold's Gym no action was taken to prevent or eliminate the offensive remarks and ridiculous chatter that were stated repetitively by some members and staff. The men's locker room has an awful foul odor that needs attending to as well. These two factors and several others, degrade the standards that Gold's Gym and the corporate currently represent and have maintained throughout the years. Please make changes to this official Gold's Gym facility concerning bias, cleanliness, judgement, fairness, ect. or it is inevitable this Gold Gym's will face legal ramifications that will close this Gold's Gym's doors forever! read more

the worst customer service even from the " general manager" kara. as a customer/client, my identity and personal information is at risk... they gave my driver's license to another person and when i inquired from the "general manager" about the frequency of this happening in the kids gym, she nonchalantly said "all the time". i do not understand how a company can have someone with such incompetence to be a leader to others who does not comprehend the importance of protecting someone's pertinent personal information be to given to someone else. at this time, i do not know who has my information and what they are capable of doing!! as a company, you have to protect people's personal information and thier identity!! read more

This location and crofton are about the same. The benches in front of the free weight rack are all missing a wheel or two. They're the same benches from when I first visited this location 2 years ago. With the money these places make they could at least replace them. read more

I'd outgrown my gym and decided that I needed a change. I walked into Gold's in Bowie at around 8pm last Sunday to get a tour and if I liked it, I'd sign up with them. Granted, it was not a weekday but when you run a business you should be prepared to conduct business for as long as you're open, right? Well, when I walked in, it was pretty empty. A girl was restocking a case in just in front of the desk. When she saw me, she resumed her place behind the counter and asked me how she could help me. I told her that I was looking for a new gym and wanted someone to show me around the place. If I liked it, I would sign up on the spot because I was definitely in need of a new gym! That's when the bad customer service kicked in. Due to a lack of forethought and pro action on the part of the managers, the staff member immediately started to make excuses. In the most dismissive manner possible, she told me that I couldn't see the gym because the "person who could do" that just left. Confused, I asked her what she meant and she told me that there was no one there to show me around because everyone went home and she's not allowed to leave the front desk. It seemed highly unlikely that they would leave her alone in the place all by herself but when I asked whether I could just look at the equipment that they had (I would still be in sight) because I just needed to know if they had what I was looking for she told me that she couldn't even let me do that! After saying no to that, I finally asked her what her managers told her to do if a potential customer came in while they were gone and her answer was,"Oh they'd tell me to tell you to come back on another day". Oh really? So they'd tell you to super inconvenience a potential customer by telling them that they needed to make yet another trip back to the club because they hadn't bothered to make sure that there was always someone on hand just in case someone wanted to sign up? Wow, I guess they have ALL of the customers they could possibly need then huh? So even though it made perfect sense that she could not leave the front desk unattended, it baffled me as to why she wasn't equipped with a better way to handle a potential customer when one came in! Also, when doing so, why didn't they have a less inconvenient policy in place - one that respected the time of their potential customers? I eventually signed with another gym and even though this Gold's Gym lack of acceptable customer service and foresight barely warrants one star, I will give them 2 because they at least had decent parking - the parking lot had generous parking and was well lit and from what I could see from the front desk and some of the floor, it was relatively clean in appearance. Still, I can't help but think how many other potential customers they've lost because they don't staff or train their staff to make "yes" a possibility. Oh well. read more

I Love It!!! This gym has a cool movie room which takes your mind off of exercising and the time goes by so quickly. The strength building equipment is new and kept in good condition. The facility is maintained and it is a joy to go and exercise there - this is from a person who did not like to exercise! read more

I love the cardio cinema and have no issue with this gym except with their child care service. It sucks! i took my daughter in there and didnt have a good experience with the unfriendly, couldnt care less about your kids care takers. Needless to say my child isnt going back in there! i signed up for a gym service and not child care so im gonna stick with that. by the way i paid three dollars for the single visit wanted to try it out before adding the kids club to my membership. i'm glad i did and ididnt just sign up for the kids club. read more

I joined this gym about 3 months ago. The staff members are very professional and work very hard to maintain a fabulous gym. The gym is very clean. I always wipe down my own equipment and pick up my own paper towels off the floor. I always rerack my weights too, its what I feel each member should do to maintain THEIR gym. I was signed up by Anthony O., the GM. He was very professional and answered all my questions thoroughly. He was extremely helpful and is always very welcoming upon arrival to the gym. I love their group classes. I feel the various times the classes are offered. The ladies in the kids club go above and beyond as well. read more

Here is the DEAL ! If you want to bring ROACHES home with you, then go to this gym and sit in the Sauna. Better yet, put your clothes in the locker while you work out. I wouldn't give this Gold Gym, ONE STAR. But I have no choice. Sorry for the length, but please take the time to read this review and stay away from this gym. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO THE planetfitness, LA Fitness, or find another place. Their promotion is not a promotion my friends. You will get charged at least $29.99 for 12 months, plus $49.99 for cleaning fees. That's $409.87. I have stopped using this gym frequently for 6 months even though they have me imprisoned in a membership that I don't want to be into. It has been 2 months since my contact ended but they opted me for a month to month membership and are still charging me and will not stop. In the past 7 months, I have told 3 different employees about cancelling this account at the end of my membership and all of them have played dumb enough and it hasn't been done. They are just after my money. This place is a money hugging jelly fish. In this gym, managers are salesman. When you come in, they advertise you a zero-gravity massage chairs, free classes with trainers (blue shirts guys and gals), aerobic movie theater, amazing discount on sports drinks and products, free Gold Gym T-Shirts, unlimited host and guests access, and a state of the art gym. They tell you that cancellation is easy to achieve. What they don't tell you is that the massage chair never works; that the movie theater stinks and doesn't have proper ventilation, that the free trainers are not free; that the gym is always crowded and small and not well maintained; that there is a $49.99 hidden fee (written on your contract but not explained to you), on top of your monthly fees, that they apply to your card for stupid reasons like upgrading a section of the gym (moving gym equipment around). They rush you to sign a contract once you come in. Above all, employees appear to be incompetent when it comes to cancelling an account. These employees never want to cancel your membership. In my case, I froze my account for 7 months when I got married. When I returned I wanted to cancel my membership and the manager/salesman, Nick, told me that I couldn't cancel because I need to honor my contract. I was disappointed but wanted to honor my commitment. I told him to make a note and cancel my membership at the end of this contract. Meanwhile, I said let's make the most of this. I returned to the gym with my wife, for her to use the massage chair, and there, the stupid fencing customer magnet doesn't work. THE ZERO GRAVITY MASSAGE CHAIR DOESN'T WORK. In March, they applied another hidden $49.99 fee to my account saying that I am now a month to month customer. Stupid! Three month earlier Nick told me that I still held an annual membership, which means that I should only be charged that stupid fee once throughout my contract. I told them to cancel the fee and make sure to end my membership at the end of this contract. They didn't reimburse me and never made that note. My membership was ending in May 2015. It's now June 2015 and they are still charging me and will continue to charge me. I called to cancel and they told me to show up in person to cancel. After work, 7:30pm, I showed up to cancel my membership and the front desk kids told me that they now have a policy that they only allow cancellation between 9am-7pm. THE HECK!!!!! I opened my account between 7-8pm on a Friday evening but you can't close my account after 7pm on a Tuesday? This is utter HORSECRAP!!! They will not cancel any membership unless I give them a 30 days notice but then none of their employees are competent enough to press the cancellation button when you tell they them to do so times after times. Which means that they will charge me for July also. They act dumb when it comes to cancelling your membership but they are very good at convincing you to open one. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. read more
