Just moved over from Rockville Wintergreen Gold's Gym to Rockville Town Center. The air condition has been out for over a week and not fixed yet!!!! This is unhealthy and unacceptable. When asked about it being fixed you get a different answer every time. I suppose the big wheels are telling the employees at the desk to give a bunch of lip service to us. Not good!!!! Just got off the phone with their manger, Very disappointed of there customer service and how they treat the customer when they can't get their billing issue right! I have signed up with this location since 10/28/2019. Upto today they are billing has never been correct, even after multi calls and talk to two people in person. When I 1st signed up, they suggested to put me under my friend's account so I can get some discount each month. I specifically asked if we will get separate bills and the lady confirmed with a big "yes". She took down my credit card information and I sign the contract. Moving forward in Jan, we realized they have been double charge on my friend's account since Oct.2019. I called in to the lady who signed me up, to confirmed my CC information. She wasn't sure why my bill got charged on my friend's but she will fix it. One month later, still the same issue. I called again, they told me that they don't have my CC information I need to go in to the gym to update my information!!!! I was disturb already at that point. I originally set for auto pay just to save the time to be convenient. But it's totally the opposite. I went into the gym I gave them my CC again, they promised in Feb everything will be corrected. I asked if they could refund my friend and charge everything on my card instead, the gentleman who helped me says he will try. Moving forward, it's March now gym get close down: but my friend still got double charged. At this point my friend has gone in the gym 2times about this issue as well. As a consumer, I really don't understand, with all the confusion charge the last thing you can do maybe not apologize to me but the other person who y'all continuously faulty charged. But no I called again, asked to talk to the manager directly, he told me my information never get put down right. But it's not my fault isn't it? Im not asking for discount or anything. All I asked was refund the money back to my friend's card and charge on my credit card instead. But he denied, he isn't willing to do anything to help. With all the inconvenience, No apology no anything, but an attitude!!! The feeling I got from this place/ manager was...... no matter what we do wrong, nothing you can do.... or don't be a member with us. WE DONT CARE! This is on the low-end for a Gold's Gym, but it is pretty convenient. What is disturbing though is the recent trend of kids coming in the evenings, stripping naked, and having photo shoots of themselves on the equipment. This is not an exaggeration. This is literally happening. I would say this place is like any other community gym, so this isn't some intimidation thing. It's just brazenly awkward to have naked people playing grab-a$$ next to you while you're trying to work out, all while they take pictures of each other...and not with phone, but with expensive professional cameras. If that wasn't bad, the fact that these same people seem to be very opposed to bathing means you get to enjoy their presence, whether they're next to you or across the gym. So if you're up for the Zoolander thing, this place might be for you. As for me, I'll be finding a new gym this weekend. read more

This Gold's gym is just ok. It's two floors, upstairs mostly cardio and downstairs are the weights and machines. There's another Gold's gym down the road at the Rockville Town Square which I actually like better (other than the 2-hr parking limit there). Pros of this gym over the other location is easier parking. However the equipments here are older. They're kept clean but you can tell the machines and even the free weights are the older models. In addition, I have trouble finding hand sanitizers. There are dispensers but they are always empty. read more

When Golds acquired this Fitness First, they engaged in a membership reduction program that was largely successful. Well to do members left in droves for Lifetime. The results are mixed: The pluses: - The gym is often empty, so you have a private facility - The equipment is quite good - Membership cost is about half of Lifetime (or less than half) The minuses: - There is zero active floor management - Weights are never in order (barbells, dumbells, plates) - Weights are often left on machines by members - There is no capital investment, so the place looks a bit worn out - The meatheads visit at some hours using the entire inventory of weights and acting generally boorish For a budget option, this is probably your best bet. read more

This is my go to spot. I've been a member ever since it was fitness first and have never looked back on that decision. It's got the perfect location, 6min. from home, across from chipotle, next to food lion, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts across the street for cheat days, kino spoon and sweet frogs if you really dare, and loads more for your delight! Since the change from fitness first, I was really sad to see some familiar faces go.. along with the punching bag.. but we got some new equipment, new people, new programs, great people and an overall welcoming feeling. In the past, I never knew any of the trainers, nor did they take the time to introduce themselves. But now, i asked one question about training and immediately I get a response. Not only that.. I got a free intro session.. even though I've been a memeber for years! Plus, they honored the price I paid for fitness first. Booyah! This year I joined the gold's gym challenge, which is great, 10% off training packages, free bootcamp for 12weeks and the comfort of getting to know more gym patrons and forming a family type bond. Overall my gym experience here is very rewarding, still miss that punching bag though, but love the new change. I will definitely recommend joining!! Here's looking forward to seeing new faces! Possibly the worst Gold's Gym ever (which is really saying something). My brother has a membership out of state (in the Carolinas) that does not allow for travel visits. I live locally, and my brother visits me often (this week b/c he had to evacuate from Hurricane FIorence). I thought I would buy him a local membership so he could work out when he visited me and I filled out the online form and 'answered the call' from the telesales person who needed to scope out if this was a legit sales opportunity (because they wouldn't want to actually let anyone try the club if they can't sell them anything, naturally). I sent my brother there and they refused to honor the free pass because he wasn't a local resident and tried to charge him $20 for a day pass...I feel my eyes rolling back from the stupidity factor here. If he wasn't local but still wanted a membership, or perhaps was just moving here, does that mean Gold's wouldn't want to sell him one? That is bizarrely discriminatory. I called back the telesales person and she apologized profusely, but this was a one-and-done effort for me...we will NEVER join Gold's in this area...can't abide poor customer service or having my family treated badly (especially in this situation, with them already being upset about the hurricane evacuation and damage). read more

I hadn't been here in about two years. Looks like there's new management. A guy who used to work at Randolph runs this location and is doing an excellent job. All equipment has been rearranged so it looks very spacious. This gym has much better equipment than the other Golds's at Randolph that I've been going to since 2012. The problem was everything was misplaced before. Now it's very convenient to go from one work out to the next. The gym is always much cleaner than before and equipment is in good conditions unlike Randolph Gold's with broken machines and weight stack pins all over tha place. Been coming here for about almost a month here consistently because i feel much more motivated here with the changes. Great job to new management. Just wish Randolph could catch up because i have to drive longer to come here, but it's worth the extra few minutes. The 4stars is for those trainers that look at you with an attitude for training hard i guess. read more

Only second review I've ever posted, only do so when I think it's necessary to warn people against apparent criminal activity. This place appears to engage in fraud. I cancelled my gym membership in mid-December 2020. Despite this, I received a charge on January 25, 2021. I called and despite receiving a run-around for awhile, did eventually receive a refund for the fraudulent charge. Thought this was a settled problem, but on February 25th they charged me again. I have called numerous times and receive the run around about how nobody currently at the gym can issue me my money back (even though this is exactly what happened the first go round). I am told to call some number (that nobody responds to) or email some email (that nobody responds to). I've asked that the people gym who take the calls to have this all-powerful person contact me, but alas this also leads to dead end. Since I live several states away, pretty much my last resort is hopefully some public shaming, since they are evidently impervious to private shaming. I have been coming to Gold's Gym for nine months straight. I stopped for awhile due to the Covid-19 pandemic, walking for hours around my neighbourhood instead. Feeling comfortable, I returned for my cardio workouts on May 17, 2021 (I keep a workout diary). Unless you have a private gym, having a GOLD'S GYM membership is the only way to go. And if your are a retiree, you can join the Silver Sneakers program and get a free membership. I hired a personal trainer who enhanced my workout goals and introduced me to a more balanced workout schedule. Since May 11, 2021, I have lost 40 pounds and have increased my workout schedule to four 1/1/2 to 2 hour workouts a week. I joined the Gold's Gym Challenge Contest, to see how much weight I can lose in a month. So far I have lost 17 pounds. My final weight-in is on March 12, 2022. I am in the running for up to $1,500 in prizes but more important I got my health back! I am now working with the on-site therapist who is addressing my two muscle issues. Also, I am getting an education on how to change my relationship towards food. My next personal health goal is to lose more weight by building more muscle and strengthening my upper body. The best thing about Gold's Gym is their staff. They have inspired me to become a healthier and more productive person. read more

Good clean gym with all of the standard equipment. Do yourself a HUGE favor, find Andres Music and get him to train you! He is by far the most effective trainer that I have ever experienced. I have a pattern of signing up for gyms and going for a month or two then never going back... this happens every year or so. For this reason I waited a few months before writing this review. Andres is worth every penny, and if I were a rich man I would just throw money at him for his time... but sadly I am not rich and have to limit my sessions. The gains I am experiencing are fantastic and I can't say enough good things about my experience. Another person who is worth mentioning is Mark at the front desk. It took 2 visits for him to know me by name and 3 visits before he started giving me a hard time for not coming as often as I should! He is the best and is a great part of the team, he really makes me want to come back again and again. In general the employees here work well as a team and are exceptional at creating a welcoming and non-intimidating environment. read more

I use this gym for the virtue of its proximity. It used to be a different gym, but Gold's bought it out about six months ago. Many of the treadmills are in need of repair-the TVs don't work, or they have difficulty working. There is a pretty good free weight area, although I don't think there are enough squat racks. They could use a couple more squat racks and a couple more benches around. I also think the locker room is a bit small, however I do appreciate the sauna and dry steam rooms. I do have to give this location props, however, because it does have a pretty sizable floor area with lots of less common weights. Kettle balls, muscle rollers, stretch bands, and others are all available for use. I give this location three stars because, while it has a lot of good amenities, it is not open 24 hours (which I would really love). The staff are otherwise friendly, but I'd like to see some of the equipment in better repair in the near future. read more

Regina DiTullio is the best cyclist instructor I have ever had!!! I love her eclectic mix of music. Not pigeon holed into one genre of music, which keeps it interesting. Something for everyone. Her class is unique & challenging! I feel sore but completely energized afterwards. She also takes time to make corrections to our form and posture on the bike which is super important to me. Give her classes a try at Gold's. read more

Bit expensive which is why I took off a star because they barely have any discounts but perfect amenities for that person that needs the perfect combination of cardio and weights! My wife and I put our gym memberships on hold at the start of the pandemic. In mid-November I received a phone call from a Golds Gym representative informing me that the pandemic hold on the membership was going to expire this month as they re-opened more fully. We had moved during this time and I asked if we could cancel the membership instead. The representative said yes that she could cancel the membership for us at this time over the phone and that once we initiate the process we will have to pay one more billing cycle and would be able to use the gym until mid December but then it would be gone. However, Upon reviewing my credit card statement this month I found that they had been charging my wife and I again in December and January (total of ~$200). When I reached out to both the local gym we had used and corporate management I was told there was no record of the phone call ever taking place and that they would not refund any of the money. I explained that we hadn't even used the gym in the past 2 months because we were told the membership had been canceled. They said it didn't matter and that there was nothing they could do because I couldn't prove to them that I had talked to someone about canceling my membership. It is unclear to me if this was just incompetent's on the part of the woman who called me and explicitly expressed that she was canceling the memberships or a more dubious effort to scam people into keeping memberships they don't want. Because in this case they do have all the power. I did not think to write down the precise time, date or woman's credentials who called and promised me that she had taken care of it. Now they can simply say "it did happen" and get away with it. I doubt there is anything that can be done at this point but someone needs to know that Golds Gym is doing this type of thing. read more

I expected more from this gym when the membership cost is 40 dollars a month plus an extra 50 for the first month. It has a decent amount of treadmills and dumbbells but the space is very limited and being able to go to any golds gym is neat but not worth the price. Too expensive for what they provide. read more

This has been the most frustrating experience I have had with any corporate company. My brother has been a member here for about 15 years and I have had to cancel his membership due to health issues for him. I have spent hours on the phone trying to accomplish this which they have made it almost impossible to cancel especially if you live out of the state despite our desperate circumstances. I either had to show up at the location which is a 4 hour drive or appeal to their corporate location in Texas by certified letter. Can not call corporate or go to a local golds gym near me because different owner. I finally got to a sympathetic person who agreed to cancel it for me via letter to email. But now they still continue to bleed the account with auto deductions for membership fees! I have never experienced gross mismanagement in my life and I spent years in the corporate world. Sad to say all golds gym wants is your money and forget everything else even in disparate situations your life will not matter. When we live in a world where all that matters is the bottom line and not the people who ultimately are paying your salary it is a sad day- no wonder businesses struggle because they have forgotten that customers are more important than how much money they can squeeze out of you! I will never step foot in a golds gym. There are other great gyms to go to. read more

Recently moved from Arlington, VA, where the Gold's on Wilson Blvd. was my home for 4 years. Loved that place. I never thought I could miss a gym so much. I've tried this location and a couple other neighboring ones and have been extremely disappointed with the size of the gym, the quality/age of equipment, and the lack of serious lifters present and/or their lack of knowledge for gym etiquette. I went here last night, from ~5:30 - 7:40pm. A woman showed up at 5:45 and monopolized the squat rack THE ENTIRE TIME. She was still on it when I left. She would squat 3 reps and take about 15-20 mins. before her next set. She disappeared for the first 10 mins. of her being there, marking the rack with all her equipment, and then proceeded to casually lift for 2+ hours... taking off layers of clothes, chatting with her friends, adjusting her knee pads. She had two others who later joined her - one woman who sat on the floor the majority of the time, while taking up the power rack's platform for the 5 deadlifts she did in 2+ hours & another other guy who pulled up a bench and sat on it the entire time. Ridiculous. Any staff member notice or care to say anything? Of course not. It's bad enough to use the piece of equipment for over 2 hours, but at least be USING IT. I'm well aware with powerlifting & you don't need 20 min. breaks btwn sets. And if that's your preference, maybe don't go to a gym that has 2 racks and HOG the equipment. I am so disappointed in the Gold's in MD, after being a loyal member for over 7 years, this may be what pushes me away for good. read more

Limited number of everything ...space, equipment, oxygen.... you name it - lockeroom and showers included. There are about 60 lockers in the locker room (3 benches) and often ppl are waiting aka watching you get dressed because they are waiting for you to move so they can access a locker. The showers are cramped, I'm over 5 feet and under 150lbs and I felt like a rotisserie chicken in the shower just spinning around because there was no space to do anything without being all over the wall...EWE! The showers have glass doors (there's 5 showers) and there's no changing or drying off area. However, someone came up with the brilliant idea to place wooden stools next to all of the showers so u have a place to put your clothing or toiletries while you shower O_o. They provide you with hand soap (yes foam hand soap) in the shower and there are no hooks, shelves or space to place anything in there with you....if you hang it on the door it will get wet. They do have a steam room and a sauna. The group classes are never packed and you don't need to get there more than 5 minutes prior to start (be advised I do not take Zumba so I have no idea what that situation is like). Downstairs are the free weights and weight machines and upstairs are the cardio machines. I typically go right after work in the 5 -6pm time frame and I've never seen anyone waiting on a machine, so while they don't have many I guess it's enough. Also, there is no "Ladies Gold" for those that care. There is a cycle studio and one group fitness studio - both located up stairs. There's no free space to do your own thing. People are randomly scattered in the way trying to do their own workout because of the lack of space - think ppl doing dips on the bench that's supposed to be used for people waiting for spin class to start. The TRX /strappy jungle gym is jammed in a corner upstairs right next to some elliptical and other random cardio machines. They sell drinks and pre/post workout snacks but, there is no smoothie bar. read more

Hmmmm, first off, the staff here is really nice. Always pleasant. Now, the pet peeves. Only two, at least for now. First, I would think it a bit of a concern that a female cleaning attendant would be allowed to saunter in, willy nilly, into the men's locker room while the men are in there showering/changing clothes. What if a crude male client decides to harass her, or better yet, she decides to accuse a client of harassing her? While I would not plan on ever being in any part of those scenarios, I could become caught up in some legal nonsense that should never have had the opportunity to occur in the first place. Now, for number two. I don't know about anyone else, but personally if your hours state you close at 11pm on a Monday, why is the cleaning crew vacuuming and mopping around the equipment and clients at 9:30pm? It's one thing to deal with knowing that some people don't wipe their sweat off the equipment when they finish using it, but to have dirt flying or drops slopping around you while you're trying to get fit just doesn't mix. Overall it's a decent gym at a decent price. It's clean for the most part and staff seem helpful. My only complaint is the scale in the bathroom...like seriously??? Great place for a good workout. I don't require a lot so this location is perfect. My only complaint is there's a member here who feels it's her responsibility to point out everything going wrong here. I was told by her that I needed to clean my hair up off the floor....whatever. If you sign up, they'll never let you leave. I was a member from the time it was Fitness First and once Gold's took over it was downhill fast. I found another gym where the people were helpful and the equipment worked on a regular basis so I canceled my membership. I have email proof that I canceled my membership back in August but now, 5 months later, they're claiming I only canceled my PT, despite having this email from a membership rep "I have canceled your Personal Training and membership." Looks pretty clear to me! Every time I call and try to get someone who can actually resolve this, I get transferred to someone's voice mail or hung up on. Only join if you're ready to commit the rest of your life to these thieves. read more

The principal concern that I have about the gym is the repetition of the same loud commercials played over the AV system. Repeated requests to stop them have proven useless. One is obliged to wear headphones or earbuds all the time. Yes, they do play music, but the commercials continually repeat. I generally use the weight room between 9-11 a.m., and there are only a handful of other people in the room. The weight room itself is generally clean, and people are attentive to returning their weights to the racks. With rare exception, the people that use the gym and attend classes dress functionally and not to impress others. The showers in the men's locker room could use a good cleaning. The men's locker room always seems to be cold. Another member told me that attempts have been made to adjust the temperature, but these have proven unsuccessful. The temperature outside of the locker room in the main gym areas and classrooms are fine. The price is reasonable relative to other gyms in the area. I've been at this gym for about two months. read more

The gym is fine enough. It has what you need for a good workout. The front desk staff are nice. The gym was cleaner and better run under Fitness First (a local company) but unfortunately mergers happen. The best thing about this particular gym is the Sports Conditioning/Boot Camp class at 5:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is one of the few gyms where you can get a really intense workout in before work. The class is held both inside and outside. It is more of an advanced class but the instructor (Justin) is really good at accommodating all skill levels as long as you are willing to work hard and improve over time. read more

The new layout is dope! I am also super into the deadlifting space they just included and the bumper weights, good move Gold's Gym, good move. I chose Gold's gym over the other gyms in my area because of the name and reputation it has for serious lifters. This is definitely no Planet Fitness! Being in an environment where people actually lift is really motivating for myself. If you want to eat pizza and have clunker alarms go off on you when you drop weights then this isnt the gym for you. If you want a decent lifting experience for a decent price, then Golds is for you. It is OK gym for the money. I do not use classes, so cannot comment, but as far as equipment, cleanliness and number of people it is fine with me. I have one issue though. The music sound volume is way too high in some parts of the gym. For example, in men's locker room, also in the abdominal equipment area on the second floor, and some other parts. I usually listen to my own music, and I cannot do it because their music is too loud. I've been to many gyms, including Gold's Gym locations in North Potomac, Rockville town center, and Germantown, so I can compare. None of other gyms have this issue. I talked to the staff a couple of times, with no results. They believe that the volume is OK. I have been a member for more than three years, but I am considering changing the gym. read more
