It's worth finding! It's like a fun fitness party. The workouts are all a bit different and all incredible. I felt stronger and more energized after starting at SweatBox. The main SweatBox classes offer a combination of cycling, weights, and more in a high-intensity interval training format. It's a full body workout. Expect high energy, upbeat music, dim lights, and plenty of sweat. There is also a Stretch and Mobility class that is great for loosening up tight muscles. The instructors have a very positive attitude and inspire the students. This isn't one of those studios where you'll feel shamed or intimidated. Much of the credit goes to the Studio Manager, Gwen, who is also a fantastic instructor and lovely person. Gwen makes sure that everyone gets a great workout while having a great time in class. SweatBox is super lucky to have her! For me, it comes down to this: SweatBox motivates me to beat my own personal bests. I saw huge changes in my endurance and confidence after only a few classes. I would definitely recommend giving this studio a try.

To start the members at the gym are incredibly supportive and are constantly working to build one another up. Many make plans to spend time with one another outside of the gym, and encourage members to live active and healthy lives. I am not originally from the Montgomery County area and the gym has given me greater sense of community. You want an insanely good workout that is fun and gives you a sense of accomplishment?! You will absolutely get it here. I have always considered myself an athlete, but my first Crossfit workout at the gym was an eye opener. You will be pushed to your limits and beyond. The coaching staff are incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. They are willing to put in the extra time to help you improve and are constantly walking around checking form. The last thing they want is for someone to injure themselves. If for some reason you do have an injury or movements that are difficult for you to do they will take the time to help alter workouts for you, or give you other options. One of the things I love most about the gym is the wide range of age groups. We have members that are in their early 20s to members in their 60s. It's fun to work out with such a huge range of people and see everyone improving regardless of where they started. This place is my second home. I can't imagine my week without it and the people that make up the community.

I had to rest for a few minutes during my first workout in months, and Jeff took this opportunity to try and push personal training. When I questioned him about two sessions a week, he grew overtly indignant (clearly hoping for more sessions to put money in his pocket). Honestly, this initial encounter really made me adverse to the gym space. I know it's a business, but feeling like you're just a means to an end isn't an incentive to join.

If you ask, they will give alternates to any workouts that you may not be able to do. The weekday morning classes have been the perfect size for me and Saturday morning was a bit crowded. I haven't tried the weekday evening classes so I'm unsure about the class sizes. Overall great gym to be apart of, plenty of parking, not located near a metro but there are bus stops around.

If I struggle at something athletic, I am usually the first person to determine my time would be better spent completing work tasks not done during the work day. Turning 30, I decided I needed a change and signed up for the Southern Maryland CrossFit "Fall Into Fitness" Special. The "Fall Into Fitness" Special included unlimited classes for six weeks totalling $125.00 per person. My husband agreed to do it with me as support for a new step we both knew was going to be a struggle for me. Walking into Southern Maryland CrossFit, I did not know what to think but I was immediately greeted by Coach Amy who wove humor into her customer service paperwork requirements to help ease the obvious anxiety I was feeling upon walking in. Once you leave the small office, the entire remainder of the space is dedicated to work out space and equipment. Classes are on a rolling basis so when one is ending, the next class is preparing to warm up while other members are on the perimeter doing independent lifting tasks (ie. bench press, squats, overhead press). Warm ups are similar each day allowing for members to have some similarity and focus on the other components of the work out for the day. Each day of the week is different at Southern Maryland CrossFit and each coach works to support every members at their individual level/area of need. As a noob, each coach works with me on my form and help me scale the work out to a reasonable level (even when I am feeling spunky and try to go too heavy too soon). The coaches suggest members use a notebook of some sort to track their individual working weights and PRs; but if maintaining a notebook isn't your style (or you frequently forget where you put things), Southern Maryland CrossFit posts photos of their daily board onto their Facebook page. Overall, Southern Maryland CrossFit is extremely active on their website and social media platforms posting the daily work out, daily work out results, and even weekly messages from the owners! After a few months at Southern Maryland CrossFit, I feel stronger but something more important happened: I started to feel like part of a community. Each member is friendly, social, supportive, and down to help/scale with anyone whether you're new or a seasoned CrossFit participant. Even during the Corona Virus (COVID19) Pandemic, the Southern Maryland CrossFit Coaches and members have online virtual workout plans, virtual workout challenges, video meet ups, and frequent social media engagement. If you're a CrossFit kind of person or even if you're someone like me just looking to make a change to bring some healthy-ish balance to your life, consider Southern Maryland CrossFit. You won't regret it!

The place is not welcoming, the owner doesn't answer questions/phone, the hours are terrible. For me, crossfit gyms are supposed to be community-based. This is far from it. He is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and knows exactly how to push me without overdoing it. Every workout challenges me, but I always feel supported and confident in what I'm capable of. Since I started training with Chris, I've consistently gotten stronger and have been able to increase the weight I'm lifting without ever feeling like it's too much. He has a great ability to challenge me while making sure my form is correct and that I feel safe and confident throughout every workout. You can tell that Chris genuinely cares about his clients and their progress. If you're looking for a trainer who is encouraging, skilled, and invested in helping you reach your goals, I highly recommend training with him.

Ever since then I have remain a committed member of OneLife at Pike & Rose for a number of reasons: 1. Pike & Rose staff and trainers are awesome! Everyone is willing to help and answer your questions. If you frequent the gym consistently, say 2 or 3 times a week as do I, gym staff and workout buddies will become a positive influence in your life. This helps you want to return to the gym on a regular consistent basis. 2. The outdoor astroturf workout space as well as the natural light throughout the East and South-facing gym always supply good visual energy. I have yet to find a gym with the high quality of natural light Pike & Rose supplies to members. 3. Local manager Skyler and Fitness Director Carolyn listen to members questions and/or concerns. The over all quality of the gym, the efficiency of equipment, the way in which members approach and use the gym are all on Skyler and Carolyn's radar. They may not be able to remedy a situation at any given moment for a number of valid reasons yet they will make a note. And they are always looking for ways to improve our experience at OneLife. Things do change for the better; new equipment arrives and class schedules are adjusted to help members. 4. The personal trainers are awesome! Every single one of them is kind, polite, friendly and approachable. You can always ask them a question or two and if they can't help you, they will direct you to someone who can. Over the years I have worked out with a number of personal trainers and I can guarantee you this: you fitness achievements will increase so long as you stick to it. What ever you are facing as far a personal limitations and/or goals go, your personal trainer will work with you to help you achieve your fitness goals while remaining mindful of any physical constraints that may need extra attention. Over time, the returns on your investment working out with a personal trainer will manifest themselves in a positive way (body, mind & spirit). 5. Lastly, the cleanliness of the gym and locker rooms remains attended to throughout the day. Cleaning staff are great, I enjoy seeing them as well when I work out at Pike & Rose. Keep at it and pace yourself. Slow and steady wins the race!
