I started my membership at this gym about six months ago, and I have absolutely seen the results. The location was my primary reason for coming here, and they have always been here and open on time. I prefer to come here first thing in the morning, right around 5:30 because I know that later on in the afternoon would never be a possibility for me. They also have all of the equipment that I use. I start my workout routine with the treadmill, and then from there I either focus on chest or legs. The chest routine involves about 5 different machines, and the leg workout is much more straightforward. The gym does start to get busy at around 6:30am so if you're trying to workout before work, I would recommend coming here as early as possible. The trainers and other folks who work here have always been great.

A YEAR LATER AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED!! This is ridiculous--fix the AC! We shouldn't start sweating when we walk into the locker room!

Had to downgrade my review. The AC has been out for more than 3 weeks and it finally died. The entire gym is running on circulating fans, some not even turned on. Each week I am told that it should be repaired by next week. I am not sure how this is acceptable. Will update post when AC is fixed.

I grew up in this area, but have not been local for a long time now. I was in town recently and wanted to check out a place to exercise so I decided on checking out this Gold's. I used a guest pass found online that gives you three days free to try the gym. When I came in the front desk staff seemed a bit confused with my pass. They got the assistant manager to help me and he was a real nice guy named Greg. He was helpful and asked me what I was looking to accomplish and looking for in a gym. His customer service was real good. The location itself is located in Rockville Town Square so parking can be an issue and I imagine this location can get crowded. The days I went were right after Christmas so it was never too busy. The mens locker room is pretty small, but does boast a sauna. When I got out onto the floor what really stood out was how old some of the equipment seemed and how run down the walls were. I am not sure if they charge an annual facility fee like so many gyms like to do now a days, but it doesn't seem like they are putting that money back into keeping things fresh and presentable. The gym has what you would expect from a Gold's Gym like a squat rack, benches, dumbbells, and cardio equipment, but some items are fairly worn. I didn't see any broken machines though. It is not the cleanest gym I have gone to either, but the bathrooms were clean enough and they did seem well stocked when I washed my hands. The price I was quoted for membership dues was $39 a month. This seemed pretty high for this gym in particular, but it did give me access to other locations which I am sure are larger. Additionally, if you look at other reviews they mention experiencing charges on their credit cards after they cancel and I had the same experience over seven years ago when I went to Gold's Gym. At this point I would expect them to get paperwork wrong and have to check my credit card statement continuously, so that also makes $39 a month seem a bit high. I am not sure what gyms in this area are good, but I am not sold on this Gold's location.

Note the damage to the wood on the door of my locker.

About once every other week, employees just don't show up to open. Garbage service. Is there a way to hold the owner responsible?

No AC cardio is very tough when it's 95+ outside. It's been awhile since broken and corporate doesn't do anything about it.

Seeing as it's located right in the middle of Rockville, it's hard to believe such a peaceful place could exist here, but once you walk through the door it's like stepping into Narnia. Instead of having music playing, we had a natural soundtrack of bird songs and water flowing from the pond. We even got a mini concert from a cardinal that was on a tree.

In other group fitness classes that I have taken, the instructors stay at the front of the room and basically complete the same workout as the participants. At Pure Barre, instructors take classes (led by other instructors) because when they are teaching and demonstrating, they aren't getting the intense workout that comes with taking a class. In this review, I also would like to praise the instructors' willingness to work with people with limitations like me. (I have a broken arm that did not heal well). They have great suggestions for modifying exercises. I would encourage anyone who needs a few modifications to give Pure Barre a try. The instructors will have suggestions for you, but they are equally as open to letting you figure out what you need on your own. (But also, support local businesses and try and buy classes too if you're able!) I took two classes this week - one with Kathy and one with Brenda. Both instructors were so welcoming and kind. Both classes were challenging (but accessible!). I enjoyed both classes a lot - Kathy's sculpt yoga class had me hobbling the next day, and Brenda's class had me challenging myself to try poses I hadn't before. She also had a message at the beginning and end of class about making sure to focus on you're "want to be" list (strong, brave, kind, loving, etc) versus your "to do" list. I love this. In both classes, it seems as though there's great community - a lot of the women seemed to know each other and were excited to take classes together.
