I was a member of Golds in Smithtown from 2003 - 2009 and recently joined again. I see the gym is cleaner now, off hour parking is terrific. There is no excuse because the gym is open from 4 am. I find the help to be friendly and responsive to questions. Love the sauna. read more

I've been a member for years. What I love about this location in Smithtown is its a smaller gym. Which I love in itself...it's never crowded I never have to wait for equipment if ever. The gym is perfect and always spotless, but I'm giving 5 stars solely because of Nelson. He is an excellent trainer, has so much experience, and my agility has improved so much with his help. My hips now swing like they did when I was in my 30s, and my entire ballroom dance class asked me what my secret is. I tell them the secret is Nice Elaborate Loose Super Omnivore Nice (that spells Nelson). I want to write so many more compliments, but I need to go pick up Roberto from the theater. I love coming here. Ive been coming here for 2 and a half years now and it has become my home away from home. Since being under new ownership, this gym has really turned around. New equipment keeps popping up, the gym is always clean, the staff is always friendly and the equipment is always maintained. The accommodations are clean and the ample equipment is impeccable. They have classes for all abilities. Sue, Bonnie, Tracy, Chen and Stacie are among the best instructors - ever. Any bad review must be before new ownership took over . This gym is amazing . Not all the equipment is brand new, but all kept well and the best kind of machines around . Great free weight section up to 150 lb dumbbell and hammer strength machines. If one machine is taken there's another similar machine to go on. Staff is very friendly . Gym is never over crowded and always kept very clean . I love the towel and spray bottle cleaner they give you when you come in to clean . Sauna is great as well . Overall vibe is awesome and members are respectful. read more

Great gym, super friendly staff. They have a wonderful variety of classes. It's very clean. Brand new spin bikes. Most, if not all of the equipment had been updated. They have put their hearts and souls into making this the best gym with a sense of community and camaraderie. Sue has gone out of her way to help me over many years and that is her nature. I've had gaps in my consistency with the gym and when I have returned she makes me feel like welcomed. It's one big family. read more

I was just in your gym working out on the elliptical machine in the back row. All the sudden a piece of filth the size of a quarter floats past me. I look up and to my horror ALL you ceiling rafters and duct work are completely filled with inches of dust. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. It's like 1/2 in thick!!!! This cannot be healthy to breathe this in as you work out. I have recently had an operation on my lung and am in fear of breathing in this filth. THIS IS A HEALTH HAZARD !!! Do you get inspections from the board of health? This says to me management is not doing job. You would think you would have this clean with all the people , like myself, who cone in the new year to fulfill New year resolution read more

Silver Sneakers classes are wonderful. Instructors are great. most everyone goes to the classes every day so everyone knows one another and always up beat and friendly. I would recommend these classes to anyone 65 and older. read more

Comfortable gym, knowledgeable staff, enough equipment and machines for any style of work out. Staff and members are very friendly but it's a place that takes their workout serious. Less glamour and texting and more sweating! Isn't that what we're here for? read more

Hi Everyone, just wanted to give all of you a fair warning of my experience with Golds Gym in Smithtown. I wanted to cancel my membership in September 2018 since my husband didn't have time to work out due to job restraints. I would go every once in a while, but not often. They emailed us that they were increasing our memebership fees with out being a member there for a year! So, I called Golds Gym in Smithtown, we were members there for several months and I was told I would be out of a contract in January. I was advised to wait so that we wouldn't break contract and accrue termination fees. I called again today and they told me that we were on a month to month and we were able to cancel a long time ago. What is more infuriating is that the gym general manager (woman who sits to the right office when you walk in) didn't wave the yearly fee which will be charged to our card in January. She did not care that we received false information from their staff member. OUR DAMAGES- We are looking at a "written" 30 day cancellation wait time. Which means they will charge us $50 for an additional month plus another $60 for the yearly fee which we are no longer a part of. When the weather gets better I'm sure to get an urge to join the gym again and I will definitely not return to this gym for sure! I rather take a longer drive than to waste any more money at this place. We are business people and this is not the way to do business! I urge everyone to look else where!!!! read more

I think this gym is very nicely organized and clean. And I love Sue who runs the fitness program. But, omg Andrea from Smithtown Golds called me to talk about the comments in my recent survey. She talked over me and I consider her rude especially since she was calling regarding my feedback which is only intended to help run a better gym. These were my complaints: #1. No decent wifi. Be prepared to struggle. When I suggested you need wifi to attract younger clientele, she denied that. She said people who wear headphones tend to be lazier. 2. When I asked her for free passes and other ways to bring in new members she said to direct everyone to Golds Gym website. LIke that is helpful. How about a coupon, a code, something that I can add to my own social media or give out. Nobody wants to click thru pages to get to info. Give me a direct link. When I suggested they make it easier for people to try the gym without the membership gate (sit down and talk for 1/2 hour....walk the gym tour etc), she said we are not a charity and we need members. Does she not know that if you give newcomers a wonderful free first time experience there is a good chance they will join by themselves? read more

Be aware there is no element of customer satisfaction or any element of compromise to be reached with this management. It is all about your contract and getting your money. Even if you move and cancel your membership you will be charged for the upcoming month or two so don't delay to cancel. In addition if the yearly fee falls within that time frame --too bad. Was told I couldn't speak to the owner about the fact that I had to pay for the 365 days despite cancelling within 3 days of this yearly fee. Don't bother getting involved with this place. I should've signed up to write this review a long time ago so here it is...... I loved this place until Michele T. left a few years ago. She is the best fitness instructor EVER. I took all of her classes sometimes spending 3 hours a night taking her classes back to back. I was going 5 days a week (even on holidays) and sometimes more if she was covering a class for someone else. Plus, she had a great personality professionally and personally as well. She was always friendly and helpful. She was extemely knowlegable when it came to fitness. She gave great fitness tips and suggestions for modifying any exercise if someone was not able to do the more advanced version of the exercise. I can't seem to find anyone else who has a similar style of teaching. She also played great music to work out to which I found was really motivating. I tried other people's classes and I just don't see the same results unfortunately. I wish Gold's did more to entice her to stay. On another note, the parking situation is terrible in Smithtown. Forget about it when we have significant snowfall. Needless to say, I will be canceling my membership (which I had since the gym opened back in 2000) unless they get Michele T. back by some miracle. The Islip location has much better parking and is a beautiful facility but I have the same problem with finding an instructor who has a teaching style similar to Michele T. Although, I find the staff at both the Smithtown and Islip facilities not very friendly. read more

Not enough classes for cardio. The classes are heavy on spinning, sculpting and yoga. I don't mind the sculpting classes but there is hardly any cardio. And they don't have back to back classes everyday. Some of them have a 30 min lapse in between so it's not convenient if you just want to do 2 classes in a row. Another turn off is the classes can get very crowded and you can't get in which is a waste of time. It's probably so crowded cuz they don't have enough classes. When I first joined 2 years ago, they had a lot more classes... And more variety. Now they have about Half the amount of classes. The class schedule for the last 8 months or so don't seem to improve in terms of adding more classes. Tues and thurs used to be good when they had Brandon cuz he had back to back class of sculpting and a cardio. Wish there was a better gym in the area with more classes or at least have this location put more thought into the class schedules and hire more instructors to add classes. For now I'll have to suck it up or look into those kickboxing studios to get a more complete workout. When I addressed this with the front desk, they didn't seem to care. They told me to come in the evenings if classes are too crowded. Unfortunately that doesn't work when you have kids with activities, homework, dinner.. Etc... At least have more morning classes with cardio AND sculpting in the same day please read more

To everyone who may concern , I paid for 15 healthy meals at Cathy's health cafe in golds gym in islip , after continuously calling and asking for my paid in advance meals I was given nothing but one meal after 2 weeks of waiting . I called Cathy and she was unprofessional and disrespectful over the phone over the paid meals which I never received, I went to Cathys health cafe and I was only shamed upon and got criticized about my weight and threatened if I didn't leave that her boyfriend would " handle this business outside " , which is unconstitutional and is considered harassment legally. She bullied me for being Spanish and treated me less than her. Even though she was Spanish as well . She called over her boyfriend to threaten me who was a foot or more taller than me and said " get the fuck out of here ", even through I didn't break any rule or made any commotion all I was doing was asking for a refund . I started screaming because no one knew that they were threatening me and I proceeded to call the police , who came and refunded me . This is a heads up for anyone who comes into contact with Cathy and her boyfriend. The manager at golds gym didn't want to get involved , and I am upset about this because Cathy's health cafe is in golds gym establishment , they are threatening and unprofessional and abuse there power , Have a good day . read more

The gym is very nice looking and clean with decent equipment and a lot of classes. The problem is the staff. They are very snotty and nasty. I don't even get greeted when I walk in the door most of the time. What kind of a business looks at you when you walk in and not even say hello? It's ridiculous that I am paying upwards of $50 a month and getting this horrible service when I could be elsewhere paying $10 a month with much better costumer service. They make me feel very uncomfortable to the point where I don't even want to ask them anything because I get a rude and snotty answer and they look at me like I have five heads. Considering joining a new gym because of the staff alone. They should really fix this issue especially since an L.A fitness is going to opening right across the street. read more
