Awful. When we arrived, no one was there even though we came during business hours. We had ordered a van through their website and did not see one on the lot. We called and the guy who picked up the phone was so unbelievably unhelpful. He asked if there was a van there, we said no, and he said "well then there isn't one to take"...??? The business was very unprofessional when it came to getting the vehicle. They also overcharged us 4x of the original price for gas when we returned the vehicle. In addition, when we attempted to call the business and prove that we drove less than what they charged us for, they ignored us and disregarded our opinion. I wish I had read the reviews for this place prior to reserving a U-Haul here. I made an online reservation and thought, "this place is close to my house and the website says pickup is 24/7 so why not?" Here's why not: 1) Upon arriving at Goleta Motors, there was a sign saying "Call this number for emergency or reservation." When I called to say I was there to pick up my rental, a gruff voice answered the phone. During this 5 minute phone call, he complained the entire time about how I did not pick up my phone when he called the day before (he had called at an off hour and did not leave a voicemail). When I asked him how I could start the rental process, he kept talking over me and saying, "YOU NEED THE APP." The app ended up not working anyway so I left to rent a truck somewhere else. 2) When leaving the premises, I spotted the pickup truck that I had reserved. Unfortunately the owner of Goleta Motors hadn't thought about how I was going to get out of there had the rental procedures worked. He, or someone else working there, had parked a large truck in the center of the lot rendering it impossible to leave the area without hitting another truck on the way out. Overall this seems to be a sleazy way to do business. I rented a Uhaul, directly from Uhaul it was a nightmare. Reserved a week in advance, no truck when we went to p/up. They sent me somewhere else, Uhaul app wasn't working, 40 minutes on hold (paying movers to stand around) waiting for customer service to get a code to get truck key, no go. Finally 2 hours later went to Goleta Motors, in & out 5 minutes they are WONDERFUL. Do not go thru Uhaul just call Goleta Motors direct, moving is stressful enough. Run by a middle eastern slimeball, who told me the car that I was interested in and driving from Northridge to see, had 121K miles on it. The photos look good and I took the 150 mile roundtrip drive to see the car! MISTAKE!!!!!! I get there and the battery is dead. He has to fiddle with the jumper cables to get the car running. Finally, the car is running and we take it for a test drive, and besides the drive train rattling in first gear, I see that the odometer isn't working which begs the question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW CAN YOU SAY IT HAS 121K miles when the digital odometer isn't working. How dumb does this foreigner think we American's are???Lot was full of crappy cars and so it shouldn't surprise me, but i drove 150 round trip for the asshat to lie to me. I wish I could give 0 stars. I rented a truck from here to move apartments in Isla Vista. I maybe drove the truck 10 miles total. I took it back and got a receipt saying i drove the truck 140 miles! of course this was a mistake, so I called and told them this. The man who answered was very rude, argumentative and refused to even listen to what I had to say. I had to go through corporate and dispute the milage charge for them to realize they overcharged me. They were absolutely ridiculous and almost charged me over $100 more than what I owed. ***For U-Haul rental*** I was a little nervous about renting my U-Haul from here given the negative reviews. But I must say, it was just fine. I made an advance online reservation and it didn't matter. I had to redo it all when I arrived, which took a while. Definitely get there early, the check-out is not that efficient. If you are moving on a Saturday or other busy time, like the 1st of the month, I might really try and get there early and be prepared to wait. But once I had the truck it was fine. They were pretty lax about most things. No truck inspection, didn't really seem to track the time I had the truck, just tossed me the keys and I was good to go. I liked that. The Dad and the son were fine with me; the son being particularly helpful. The return was even easier. I filled up the gas (do be sure you do this, they say they will do it, which is true. You pay $5 a gallon plus a $30 service charge!!) I pulled in, left the keys, got a receipt, left. For a quick and short move (about 30 miles), cost me 35 bucks for the smallest moving truck (10 foot I think) they had. read more

Absolute worst service. I made a reservation online for 8 am pick-up on a Saturday. Owner of Goleta Motors U-Haul began calling & emailed incessantly the day prior. When I was able to speak with him Friday night at 8 pm he told me that my online reservation was "irrelevant" and that reality was that I could pick-up the truck when he wd be there. He yelled at me, was demanding and when I finally got the truck to So Cal, the drop-off location he had guaranteed refused to accept the truck. They told me they don't accept 1-ways as a practice. I called Goleta Motors U-Haul to let him know that and that the 800 number he provided did not answer, he told me to just continue calling the 800 number. I had to find storage for the vehicle overnight. The following morning when the 800 number was finally answered, the representative told me the nearest drop-off location was 23 miles away. read more

It's been said many times before and I'm here to say it again -- this place deserves zero stars. I came in to rent a truck to move a piece of furniture from SB to Goleta (24 miles total). I was initially given a quote of $19.99 plus mileage. When I returned the truck an hour later the final price was $52. The man who worked there mumbled the final price to me and I had to ask for a breakdown which was a major grievance to him. He sighed his way through the up-charges, the math didn't check out. I questioned him about it and he gave me $3 off the final price as if he was saving the day. It was rude. It was a ripoff. I should have done more research on renting a truck for an hour, but this place is conveniently located near my office. However, dear reader, learn from my mistakes. We came to get the truck as we agreed about , first the guy was very unprofessional , anxious , not smiling , acting like we are coming to get something for free , the place had no entrance and exit so you can get trapped in the narrow parking lot for a long time till the customer before you leaves or another clients comes to pick a truck, no parking in the street available also , the charges were $ 19.95 , then with unexplained charges without notice went from $19.95- $43.27 on the later posted email. For Uhaul I went to the Uhaul center at Hollister and Modoc first but all they had was large trucks. I came here next but they didn't have any small trucks either. But while I was there, they made calls around town and ended up finding one in Atascadero and drove there to get one so I could rent it the next day. Very impressed. Called to confirm and our original size truck was not available, which is not a huge deal, but we could have the larger one and we could come in at 10:30 a.m.. Fine, works for us. Get there on Saturday morning to pick up the truck and it's not available and there is a huge line and chaos, likely due to the rain. Was told we probably couldn't have the truck until the afternoon, which is too late for our moving help. Cancelled the order and going with another truck rental company. read more

No way in hell anyone gave this place 5 stars. NO WAY! The owner was incredibly rude (middle aged, short, middle eastern guy). Starting from the time he called me, he was NOT courteous, polite, or friendly. He barked the time I was to pick up ("11am!"). When I told him I needed the truck earlier he said "no, 11am!". Then I asked what time did the place open-because he initially gave no explanation for denying my early time request-he barked, "10AM but I can't have everyone here at the same time!". Wow! I told him I needed it earlier and he said, "fine, 10:30!" as if we were haggling! Then when we got there it was more of the same, no greeting at all-he actually ignored me for about 10minutes while I waited for him to finish with another guy-who was outside. When did finally talk to me he began curtly demanding things..."driver's license? Credit card?" "Truck here...sign here..keys here..." When I did read the contract he started exhaling very loudly with his arms crossed standing right next to me". My friend who was with me was shocked. On top of that the "office" is basically a shack in a dirty unkempt narrow lot. The place is dirty, crowded, and hard to get in to and out of. I saw a few "Top 100 Uhaul..." awards prominently displayed. Let me explain something. This location is THE closest to UCSB. Where each year thousands of students move in or out, of the area. Ted Bundy would be a "top producer" here. That is no excuse to overlook the shocking manner in which this man runs this business. Worst U-haul experiences. DONT RENT YOUR UHAUL FROM THIS PLACE! I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I reserved to pick up the uhaul truck at 7pm but they close at 6pm so someone called me and asked me to pick it up at 6, but I clearly told them that I really couldn't pick it up earlier than 7pm so the guy says "okay." Btw uhaul clearly states that pick up is 24/7 as long as I have the app on my phone. While I'm on the way to picking up the truck, another guy calls me and asks me (in a very rude manner) when I was going to be there even though it wasn't even 7 yet. I told him that I was on the way and he still sounded mad and complained that he has already been waiting for an hour for me. No one ever told me that someone would be waiting for me to pick up the truck and I had already told them that I wouldn't be able to pick it up earlier. When I got there, he continued to complain that I didn't go there earlier to pick up the truck and I told him that I already communicated with the guy that I wouldn't be able to pick it up earlier and he continued to speak to me rudely. He told me to return the truck tomorrow morning but I told him I don't have a place to park the 15' truck so I'll be returning it at night. When I went back at night, his entire lot was full so I couldn't even return it and had to park the truck in the street. He never communicated that him lot would be full! I had to go back again in the morning to drop off his key. Also he asked if I wanted to purchase coverage for the truck and I clearly said no, but he still charged me anyway! In May, I rented a U-haul truck from Mr. Hassoun and his son and found their customer service to be excellent. I was skeptical given the reviews but found my personal experience to be great, therefore, I felt compelled to write an awesome review for them. I found Mr.Hassoun and his son to be honest, friendly, and very helpful in giving me a good deal, which was important to me being a graduate student with little income. Although the actual office is not grand, I do not see how it should reflect on their great customer service. The office suites its purpose and that is what I expected from a local small business. People need to be less frivolous in matters such as these and I cannot believe the racism by some reviewers in having to point out that the owners are Middle Eastern. Remember, we are all human trying to make a living. As for my drop-off location, as the contract states, you are to call U-haul customer service to find out where to drop of the truck in order to make sure the location accepts the particular equipment rented. The owner/manager (no sure of his title) was not helpful, was not friendly, was not polite and most definitely DOES NOT operate a respectable business. Horrible service and pays no attention to his patrons, his location or his vehicles (I feel blessed that the truck I rented even had working brakes). I rented a U Haul and at the completion of my rental I refueled as instructed. Now, looking at my invoice that was emailed to me, I see a fuel charge! This is not only unfair, it isn't right. The location felt so unsafe and crooked that it makes me very nervous that they have my credit card information. Please save yourself the headache and stay FAR from this place.
