My car was experiencing transmission issues, and a friend recommended Mahneke. Called and made an appointment and their customer service was stellar. Turns out my issue wasn't a super time-sensitive issue, so I scheduled a time for them to check out the issue further the following week (it was a holiday weekend and they were swamped). Came back, they test drove the car to confirm the issue, and after discussion about my dealership warranty, sent me with info to take to the dealership to get my issue addressed in warranty, even though I thought I was out of warranty. Took their advice and the dealership handled everything. Mahneke was so wonderful with their expertise and they made it easy for me to understand my transmission issue and relay it to my dealership correctly. Some of the best customer service I've experienced in years here. I thought I needed a UHaul trailer for a cross-country move, and the owner went out of his way to find the trailer I needed (an unusual one) and stay in touch with me about its arrival and timing. He made a stressful process substantially smoother and calmer for me. Even when I didn't end up needing the trailer, he was friendly and helpful. It was recommended that my car receive several new parts... One of which was an air filter and after inquiring, they said the air filter would be $50 and then squabbled amongst over the remaining services. I left pretty quickly after that. I then went to see Darby at Mahneke. Darby asked a few questions about my car, then did a quick inspection. He explained why all of the previous recommendations were not needed and advised why others were definitely needed. I use my intuition and common sense when getting my car serviced. The difference between the two garages were huge and I was immediately assuaged that I found a great mechanic. He patiently answered my questions and showed me the engines parts that needed replacing. One more thing... The axle that Darby installed a year ago was warrantied to 12,000 and I had just put on another 15,000. Darby said no problem and got another new Subaru axle installed within 2 hours... free of charge! I was out of warranty so he didn't have to do that but, honestly, that's the kind of service you get at Mahneke. read more

Making an appointment was easy, phone call and they worked around my schedule. I needed to hitch a ride back to the office, they were able to help me - they use your car to drop you off. They called to let me know what the status of my vehicle was (it was in for an oil change)...gave me a thorough report. I was happy with the level of service. I felt like their pricing was fair. Excellent mpg on a recent trip to Monterey from Santa Barbara without the dang 'engine light' goin' on every time I come to a stop ;) If you have an older car or truck you want brought up to spec, Mahneke is the place to go with great customer service from Maureen at the front desk and 'Big Al' working with Darby in the shop. I had a terrible time with my car here. I have a VW bug, and when I came to get my car serviced here, my check engine light was on. My only reason for coming here was because it was one of the only places in Goleta which serviced Volkswagens. Although my check engine light did came off after the services, my car was returned to me with the entire door panel broken. When I reached to close the car door, the entire interior door panel swung with it and the handle completely broke. When I went back inside to Mahneke Motors to ask what the deal was, the man told me that he did nothing of the sort and blamed it on the "hot weather". Mind you this was in February in Goleta where it was no hotter than 70 degrees. I've had my car for 6 years and it was withstood 100+ degree weather with no issues of broken door panels. The man had the audacity to tell me that he never even touched the door panel and solely closed the door from the window, which I knew was completely false. The service man did not offer to fix it or even look at it. Hopefully this was just a phony serviceman, rather than a phony company. I will not return to get my car serviced here ever again. read more

I had booked a 15' Uhaul truck in the first week of August to move my daughter in law back from SB to Los Angeles on 8/29. We could not book before because we were waiting to see if UCSB was insisting on some of her classes being in person. On 8/26 Uhaul called and told me we were being "upgraded" to a 20' truck as they were overbooked. Ok, not ideal because apartment is at the end of a cul de sac, but I agreed. When I got confirmation text I saw they had moved pick up from SB to Bueltton, 90 miles round trip away from SB. So I called and spent an hour on hold before finally speaking to someone who said we could have a 10' truck on Sat at Mahneke in Goleta. Great. Yesterday morning I got another call from Uhaul telling me that people who had the truck I had rented had extended their reservation and the only available truck was now at Lompoc; that's 110 miles round trip from SB....but I could have a truck on Sunday at 11am at Mahneke. I was also told if I wanted to be sure to get a truck for this weekend I "should have booked three months ago"! I called Mahneke directly to see if the Sunday truck was really a possibility, because by this point I had zero faith in Uhaul, and spoke to Darby. By this point I was beyond stressed and slightly hysterical. Within two hours he called me back and had managed to arrange a truck for this morning at 9.30am. My sons drove down from LA and I held my breath until they called me to confirm the truck was safely in their possession. So a big shout out to Darby who was the only person connected to this transaction who gave a damn about customer service and really went above and beyond to fix the problem which was not of his making. When we recently purchased a new Subaru, I had considered driving the vehicle out of Santa Barbara for dealer service. However, after discussing servicing and new car warranty requirements with Darby, and based on many years of excellent service with our other vehicles, we decided to have our new Subaru serviced at Mahneke. I had Mahneke replace all the fluids (AT, steering, coolant) on my classic (read ancient but clean) Lexus, as well as get rid of the constantly on airbag light. They were very helpful and professional with doing the work. The mechanic also clued me in to an exhaust gasket failure I would have to repair to pass the smog check. I came back because I had thought the power steering hydraulic system was making noise but it was determined what I was hearing was the automatic air conditioning clutch. Very helpful and knowledgeable mechanics. As a woman I frequently feel like mechanics are trying to get me to do excessive work, I did not feel that way with Mahneke. I would be comfortable with using them again, and will. read more

My husband and I recently rented a U-haul for an out-of-town move and were assigned by U-haul to pick up our truck from Mahneke Motors. We could not have been luckier! Originally, U-haul told us they couldn't get us a 15 foot truck (which we needed for my father-in-law's one bedroom apartment) and we were stuck with a 26 footer. Well fortunately for us, I spoke with Darby who went out of his way to re-arrange his trucks so that we could use the 15 footer. It would have been a nightmare to caravan north to Sacramento in a 25+ foot truck and Darby realized it would have been way too big for our needs. A few days before we picked up the truck, I again had the fortune to be working with Darby when I called to reserve a second furniture dolly for our use. Although he didn't have a second one immediately on-hand, he again went out of his way to call around and find one for us to use. When we went to pick-up the truck (before opening), Darby made the process extremely straightforward, had all the equipment in the truck that we'd requested, and even called to make sure we were all set (he could see on his security footage that we had arrived). Anyway, we are so grateful for Darby's excellent customer service. He made a stressful move that much smoother and I highly recommend his services! read more
