Was in Oakley for a couple of weeks spending time with family. We decided to go golfing Father's Day weekend but I didn't have any equipment with me. Decided to visit Golf Ballin for a used set to keep in California since we visit every summer from New Orleans. Was able to build an entire set of serviceable clubs (driver, irons, wedge, putter and bag) for ~$300. Clubs are definitely used but have been good to me. Brandon replaced all grips and shafts on my irons. He was responsive and offers his cell phone to be sure you can reach him for status on any work you have done. He exceeded expectation by replacing a grip for free and he spined my shafts for no extra cost. I would rate him a perfect 5 but if he didn't remove the labels from my shafts, so rated him a 4 and would recommend him to anybody looking for used clubs, re-gripping or re-shafting. I've also slowly started to upgrade my outdated clubs. I love to support local business so I started shopping at Golf Ballin. I couldn't be happier and Brandon always takes care of me. He's got a surprisingly large selection of clubs and equipment. Bigger than most pro shops. He's got a great knowledge of club fitting and club selection and I trust his advice. Even more, if you pick up a club and don't love it, he'll exchange it for another, no questions. I have nothing but great things to say about Brandon and his shop. I am 6'3" and have been playing standard clubs for a long time. I decided I will have him lengthen and regrip my irons so I can finally play clubs that fit. From my first interaction with Brandon, I know he knew what he was talking about. He is extremely knowledgeable and personable. He had them done in 5 hours ready for pick up! (Don't expect this every time, i am sure if he gets busy he may take a little more time)...since the service was so great I brought my brother in the shop when I picked up my irons. He ended up getting a full set of irons and woods from him for an great deal. If you're looking for used clubs, gear, repair or regrips....don't give your money to those big retailers that don't care about you. I've been in a few different times and I've had much better experiences than the other reviewer. I had my whole set re-gripped and the price was reasonable. The only negative is that I didn't get a price break for doing 13 clubs. In fairness to the owner, I ended up doing them half and half because I wasn't sure if I wanted thicker grips on my woods and hybrids at first - I don't think I dealt with the same person both times. I've got a friend interested in getting new irons and I believe the fitting process is included for free when the irons are purchased through this vendor. It's convenient and it's locally owned. I'll go back for other things as the need arises. read more

Great Place to get any service done. Grips, shafts, Loft, Lie, clothing, adjustments you name it these guys will take care of it. The putting green and hitting bay are my favorite parts of the shop. Test out any clubs that you would like right on the spot. Also located in a prime location in the heart of brentwood. 10 min drive from 4 local golf courses. I have been golfing for just under a year seriously now. The first gear I purchased outside of the play it again sports clubs I got from Brandon. I knew absolutely zero about clubs and Brandon knew that too. Looking back he could have taken a huge advantage of me and he did not. He led me down the right path. Had my clubs re gripped by Mark. He did a nice job and it seems to be improving my game. Price seemed pretty reasonable. Some of the used items that they have in there seem like they may be a bit over priced for the condition. Make sure to haggle on price a bit. I recently got the Golf Bug and found myself without clubs and needing information on becoming a beginner golfer. I had the same experience as Doug B. When I picked up the club I thought the shaft looked different and questioned whether it was a True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft. I was assured it was. When I got home I checked it against my other irons and confirmed the shaft was different. Additionally, the club was cut to the wrong length (too long). Took it back the next day and they admitted it wasn't a True Temper shaft. They agreed to cut the club to the right length but not replace the shaft. I won't be using them for anything in the future. read more

Over priced and not very helpful. I had a set of Ping irons re-shafted and re-gripped. Grips were fine but the shafts, which were stiff, were supposed to be regular. They installed stiff. When I asked them why, they said it was what I ordered. Why would I go in to have a perfect set re-shafted with the same shafts? Made no sense and I got absolutely no satisfaction. I was basically blown off and told it was my fault. Golfsmith charges less for everything and they are professional to deal with. This place needs to take a lesson from them. For a local business that needs local support, they just do not cut it. I DO NOT recommend this place. read more

I took a 7 iron to have new shaft put in. After the clerk told me what a great set of clubs I had, and what a great trade in value they had, I asked for a new shaft be installed so that the set would be matching if I did want to sell. The cost to have the shaft and grip replaced was $57.00 (Golfsmith is $45.00), but this is a local company so I decided to go ahead. When I picked up the repaired iron, I did not see the True Temper decal on the shaft and when I asked if the shaft was the same, I was told it is a stiff shaft same as the broken one, and no, it was not True Temper because I did not specify I wanted True Temper. I was not given any options as to different shafts when I ordered the repair, and I thought that, since we had discussed the matching set earlier, that a True Temper shaft would have been installed. When I complained to the owner about this problem, he did not offer a rework or price sharing to have a Tru Temper shaft installed. I will not use this vendor again, and I strongly suggest that you do not use either. read more
