Good local neighborhood spot for ramen. Went for lucnh and was able to grab a seat fairly easily as a single diner. Went for the Tan Tan Ramen which is the signature - spicy sesame broth with chasu and added an extra egg. The ramen is probably on the lighter side compared to all the ramen trend nowadays, with the sesame broth adding just a slight kick, wouldn't really say it is spicy. The sesame does add a depth you normally don't see. Chasu is probably the weakest of the ramen, while the egg was solid. Also got some kaarage which I really enjoyed and would get it again! Hubby saw this new restaurant on Yelp and we came to dine here tonight. It's a little difficult to find since it is located in a corner of the Redondo Shores Shopping Center. If you are facing Whole Foods, head to the right of it. Parking is free and plentiful, but you may have to walk. The spaces are shared between all the businesses. There's a beautiful black and white mural. I was told that the Japanese portion represents the head chef's Japanese roots, the Hawaiian part is for their original location (Honolulu, HI), and the Hollywood, CA portion is for this location. I think it should have shown something unique to Redondo Beach, though. I looked up the meaning of the restaurant's name and basically it is translated to "Number 1 Sesame" or "First Sesame". The Tan Tan broth is Sesame based. We ordered: *Gyoza - scrumptious little dumplings packed with flavor *Small Salad - the dressing was very tasty *Tan Tan Ramen - hubby liked it, I just barely tasted it since I was eating my own bowl of ramen *Vegetarian Ramen with White Soy Broth - the flavor grew on me. I read the description that it would be Hawaiian ramen, which sounds interesting! It was very bland and not flavorful. We had to put some of everything they had on the table on the ramen to make it a 5/10. Surprised this place isn't more popular on a weekend. It's not top tier like say Ippudo or Hino Nori but it measures up to the neighborhood spots in Gardena or Torrance like Santouka or even Shinshengumi. This some of the best ramen we have had in a very long time! The gyoza tasted handmade and it was probably my favorite thing on the menu. It is a must if you are coming here. Don't skip on it. Well, I don't like leaving NON 5 star reviews. This place is pretty "meh". The only really good Tan Tan I've had was from the since shuttered ChinMaYa where Jidaya is, and a small place in Manhattan Beach, that is gone. I was hoping this would satisfy my desire for the dish, but to me, the best are Jidaya and Japonica. BUT, neither are as good as the two I mentioned up top. If I want this dish, I have to travel to Killer Noodle on Sawtelle. This place is expensive too. So, I have a new rating system......I will be write what I feel honestly about an establishment. Today was their official grand opening and there was lots of fun, prizes and good food! For today's Grand Opening; Gomaichi Ramen had a fun spin the wheel game that featured a lot of good prizes like free ramen, free appetizers and discounted meals. Service was spot on despite them being pretty busy during the grand opening. They were very efficient and we got seated quickly. My friend and I each got a ramen. I got the Tan Tan Ramen ($17.95) and my friend got the Tonkotsu Light ($17.95). One of the things that I liked right away is that you can choose the main meat or veggie for your ramen. They have options of Minced Pork, Char Siu Pork, Chicken, Wakame Seaweed or Vegetables. Since Tan Tan Ramen typically comes with Minced Pork; I decided to choose that. The Tan Tan Ramen was great! It comes with the Chef's signature sesame based broth. I really enjoyed the soup. It had the perfect nutty flavor with the just the right hint of spice. Though it wasn't needed because the ramen was already quite flavorful; I added a bit of chili oil just for little more fire. Last but not least I loved the minced pork and the flavored egg. That flavored egg is true chef's kiss! This whole ramen was so tasty and I was quite pleased with my ramen of choice. I also tried my friend's Tonkotsu Light and loved the creamy, light pork bone based broth. The Tonkotsu Light definitely is on my list to get for a future visit. I will definitely be back! I've been rocking with Gomaichi since back when it was in Honolulu -- a loyal patron from 2003 until they closed in 2018. When they shut their doors, I still had to get my TanTan fix at Menchanko-Tei, where the recipe lived on. I used to work at a sneaker shop just a few doors down, and Gomaichi was the go-to spot for me. I've been in the South Bay for 18 years, always hunting for solid ramen out here, so seeing Gomaichi pop back up on PCH had me trippin -- a true favorite from my past opening right in my area. Gomachi Ramen has officially become my absolute favorite ramen spot within walking distance. Maybe it's because it's in Hawaii and I'm partial (lol kidding), but honestly--it's just that good. The service here is always warm and attentive. It never feels overwhelmingly busy, which means the staff actually take the time to remember regulars--like me. That personal touch goes a long way. My go-to is the Tantanmen ramen--rich, flavorful, and I always order it extra spicy. They also have this special sour ramen (forgive me, I always forget the exact name) that's a chef's specialty, and it hits the perfect balance of spicy and sour. It's seriously addictive. On the side, I have to get the spicy cucumber pickles--trust me, they're to die for. While they don't have a full bar, I'm not docking a star because their sake, beer, and wine list is solid and reasonably priced. Everything pairs perfectly with the food. 100% I'm a regular now, and I couldn't be happier about it. We love eating here! One of the things that stands out about this restaurant is the nice take out bags that they give you! It's a small detail, but it absolutely makes this ramen spot memorable, I appreciate that they spend a little more on these bags to set themselves apart. Everything tasted very mediocre (fine but not good) and probably adjusted to fit in. We ordered: - Tonkatsu ramen: broth only lightly tasted like pork, no depth of flavor tonkatsu broth should have. Charsui was basically just boiled pork belly, no flavor. - Tan Tan Men: tasted like the tonkatsu ramen (flavorless light broth) with a hint of spicyness and nuttiness... nothing special - Cucumber salad: too heavy on rice vinegar - Karaage: standard Service and ambiance was great though. It was my mom and I's first time at this ramen restaurant yesterday. I ordered a regular bowl of Tonkotsu ramen and she ordered a side of gyoza, karaage, and a small chashu bowl. I've got to say, everything impressed me!! The gyoza had the perfect crispy edge to it, making it a perfect bite. The karaage chicken was SO crunchy and I loved the sauce they pair with it (I believe the server said it was some kind of unagi sauce? Don't quote me on that). The chashu bowl had a slight kick to it but the spices and tender meat blended nicely together. I was genuinely surprised by the texture of the noodles. They specialize in a specific cooking style of the noodles and it was definitely different than most ramen noodles, but so tasty. The noodles are a bit "chewier" but I preferred it that way. They will also cook it to your satisfaction if you want them less chewy. The service was also very good. We came on a Monday night and were sat right away. We had two nice young ladies who were attentive and very friendly (even gave us some compliments ). She also explained there was a rewards program if we were interested and ofc we said yes.
