We had gone to W's China Bistro years before and enjoyed it but never tried Lotus until last night and we are so glad we did! Our usual not-so-usual go-to for Chinese in the South Bay had been Seashore at Calle Mayor and PCH but I remembered the food being somewhat bland on the last visit several months back. We have also enjoyed Lunasia (for Dim Sum) and Ruiji farther east on PCH but it has been a long time (at least for Ruiji) and the reviews and pictures for Lotus looked really good. I also liked the All-Day Happy Hour! $3 house wines, beer and hot sake as well as the complimentary (and delicious) garlic noodles with $50 purchase ($11.95 value). We ordered the Crispy Crabmeat Cream Cheese Wontons ($10), Spicy Orange Crispy Chicken ($21.95), Kung Pao Chicken ($21.95), Sweet and Sour Pork ($20.95), Beef with Broccoli ($20.95), Mongolian Beef ($21.95) and Crispy Honey Shrimp ($25.95). Yeah, the prices, I know, but again the All-Day Happy Hour and the free noods! The food was a hit...everything was great, fresh ingredients, packed with flavor. The Crispy Chicken wasn't spicy so don't worry if that's not your jam...the Mongolian Beef was probably my favorite and the crispy honey shrimp was lightly fried "to perfection". I hate that phrase but it is appropriate here, truly. Service was excellent. The food came out very quickly and our server was fantastic. It was my 87 year old Mom's birthday and they brought out a cheesecake and candle for her too. We did have tons of left-overs so it will go a longer way which helps with the cost. I guess we haven't been back here for a while. It is a little outside our regular dining area and the parking is confusing, although we were able to get a spot right on the street. However, it was worth it! We had the Special Hong Kong Garlic Lobster, Chicken Fried Rice, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Garlic Noodles, and Hot and Sour Soup. The service was fast and friendly. The food was uniformly great. The soup was excellent as was the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. The Fried Rice was good, although I wish they had BBQ Pork Fried Rice, but that is not to be. Lotus Garden I believe used to be the location of the "W's China Bistro" (and I think I saw some branded "W" monograms still remaining here). I don't know what happened to "W's, but that used to be a good spot and had a sister-restaurant I believe under a different name that also closed down in the South Bay, years ago. Lotus Grill Chinese might even be by the same original owners or management as W's. It's a good restaurant with attentive fast and friendly service. It's best as a venue for "Chinese Family Style" dining where you can share different entree dishes together for diverse tasty flavors. There's only a half dozen or so good authentic quality Chinese restaurants that serve Cantonese comfort food dishes in the South Bay, and this is one of 'em I'd recommend. We had 5 people with kids and it's a perfect number, but of course, "the more, the merrier" and you can plan on ordering an avg of 1 entree dish per person to share, so 5 people should order 5 dishes roughly (and you can always either add more during dining or order more and take home leftovers to-go). The popular dishes at the table were the Orange Chicken, Crispy Salt-Pepper Chicken, Broccoli Chicken, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. Currently as of March 2026, if you order $50 or more (and that's basically 2-3 entrees) you get a "FREE" order of the Garlic Noodles, and it's a full-sized sharable portion too. read more

We recently visited Lotus Asian Grill for lunch with a group of five, and it turned out to be a wonderful dining experience. The lunch special was definitely the highlight. Each meal came with a main dish, salad, soup, and rice, making it both satisfying and great value. Every dish we tried was delicious. Our favorites included the Black Pepper Filet Mignon, Sweet and Sour Pork, Sautéed Mixed Vegetables, and the flavorful Kung Pao Threesome. Since it was our first visit, we didn't realize how generous the portions were. We ended up ordering a couple of extra dishes--Ma Po Tofu and Spicy Garlic Eggplant--which were also excellent, but definitely more food than we expected! The service was impressive, with attentive and friendly staff who made the experience even more enjoyable. We also appreciated the modern, clean atmosphere, which made the restaurant feel comfortable and welcoming. We went for lunch as they have a terrific menu with very reasonable prices. Lunch includes soup,salad and entree. Hubby wasn't feeling well so he ordered hot and sour soup which he loved. I'm not a soup lover so I ordered double salad (it was a ver generous portion and the dressing is delicious) and king pao shrimp. It should be noted that the portion sizes are VERY generous. Therefore, you will likely take food home. 1. Garlic and soy Brussels sprouts, which were roasted to perfection with large chunks of roasted garlic everywhere. Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. 2. Kung Pao Beef: Lots of tender slices of beef with mixed vegetables, peanuts and roasted red chilies. Absolutely fantastic! 3. Salt and Pepper Crispy Chicken: very tender white meat chicken battered and fried (similar coating to orange chicken). I've given this restaurant 4 tries, I keep praying that it'll get better. It does not. Here's what my $75 got me...The crispy orange chicken is soggy with not one iota of crispiness, the garlic noodles are overcooked and stuck together in a glob, edamame has a weird off taste I'm guessing it is old. The Kung pow chicken has squash and corn in it?! And the chicken is sliced so thin you can't tell the difference between it and an onion piece. The quality of the meat and both dishes was far less than average. Unacceptable actually. As a South Bay resident who has been patronage this location when it was W for many years with the Chong family. Devastated, they decided to close down because this has been the community's family restaurant, aka our kitchen lol. We are pleased to find that Lotus Asian Grill has taken over! We loved the former upscale Chinese restaurant in this space and noted that Lotus sprung up in its place so we decided to give it a try, with the understanding that they are serving Fusion. Private parking lot in the back of the restaurant. Easy to park. Greeted by the hostess and seated right away with menus. The menu was a single sheet of paper. Interesting for a place with pricing commensurate with what you might expect from an upscale restaurant. Cloth napkins, and disposable chopsticks - another surprise. They do serve alcohol but we didn't get a wine menu, so we didn't order any. The servings were decently sized. I found the chicken lettuce cups and the spicy eggplant to be overly salty and saucy- kind of heavy. The kobucha tempura was deep fried, not the light tempura breading that you find on typical tempura. The Singapore noodles were very good and the complimentary garlic noodles were a nice touch. I'm extraordinarily picky about fortune cookies. These were definitely stale and had that old package smell to them. Also closing time -- the kitchen closes 30 minutes before their stated closing time so plan to go early. read more

Walked in and was seated right away in a booth. Very comfortable booth by the way. The ambience of the restaurant is nice lightly dimmed with TV so you can watch sports games. Also, there is calming music playing while you dine. The staff at this restaurant is very friendly. For lunch, I had the sautéed vegetables and added tofu. Really nice place. 'W' used to be here. My brother-in-law's birthday and we a party of 12 went for lunch. They have an wxtensive menu and very impressive. We ordered several dishes - egg rolls, spicy wontons, spicy eggplant in garlic sauce, mongolian beef, fish fillet in black bean sauce, chicken in garlic sauce, mixed vegetables, lo mein noodles. everything was delicious and the service was excellent. The amounts were very generous also. Nice ambiance. My only complaint is they put red onions in the Mingolian beef. Those onions were very strong and we had to leave them out. I had Mongolian beef in so many restaurants and they always use brown onions, not red. I hope the owners take my suggestion and use brown onions from now on. This was my first time dining here. I brought two guests who both wanted Chinese food for dinner. When we arrived at 6:15 pm on a Tuesday night I thought the restaurant was closed. Then I noticed one table was occupied. The hostess showed us to our seats and we all commented to each other that she had a bad attitude. Not long thereafter the waiter arrived and took out orders. Little did we know he'd rarely come back to check on us and offer (for example) to refill my glass of hot tea. We ordered wonton soup and hot & sour soup to start. I found the wonton soup to be rather ordinary and lacking in flavor. It wasn't bad - just plain and simple. My guest had the hot and sour soup and gave up after half as it as simple too spicy. We then ordered White Fish Filet in Black Bean Sauce, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, Kung Pao Chicken and bowls of Steamed White Rice. We were provided with a complimentary, Wok-Stirred Garlic Noodles special. The King Pau Chicken was inedible. It was so spicy none of us could eat it so we took it to go - not to eat but to give to the nearest homeless person (whom we four on the way home). The Shrimp on Lobster Sauce was especially good and enough to share to all of us. It wasn't highlight of our meal. The White Fish Filet in Black Bean Sauce was pretty good with a rich flavor. We also shared the dish and it was a good addition to our meal. Definitely not extraordinary. Service, however, was terrible. I'd call it no service. It's not like the waiter was busy as most tables were unoccupied. When he did make a visit to our table I was long overdue for a tea refill and his main reason for coming over was to clear our dishes. One issue of concern is one server was preparing a clean table and dropped all the napkins and silverware on floor (which spread everywhere). Maybe he didn't notice I was watching but he casually placed the napkins and utensils on the table for the next guest. I wish he had just pretended to bring out clean items. Prices were reasonable but inconsistent with the lack of service. At one point one of my guests uttered, "I guess he quit and went home." So while I can't recommend this restaurant I'm sure others have had good and poor experiences. It's up to the individual. Parking was terrible. We had to park on the street on a steep hill about a block away. It wasn't that far considering there are numerous other restaurants side by side at that location read more

We went to this wonderful Asian fusion restaurant on Christmas Eve and had a great experience. The restaurant was packed with people celebrating the holidays but the person at the front desk still got us into our booth at the time of our reservation. From there our server did an excellent job taking our order and getting our food to us promptly even though they were very busy. The feeling of the restaurant is comfortable and contemporary with nice booths as well as large tables for bigger groups of people. The accommodations would make it easy to meet friends here for a celebration or gathering. We also enjoyed the food so much!! The chicken lettuce cups had a very tasty sauce. We went for lunch and you get a large bowl of salad with a delicious dressing as well as a hot and sour soup that was also very delicious. We ordered the Kung Pao shrimp and the filet mignon pepper beef. Both were generous portions and delicious. The only thing that threw me is we wanted to order the honey shrimp but we wanted it spicy. The gentleman taking our order said that honey and spice don't go well together yet isn't everything hot honey the rage right now? Not sure why he couldn't make it spicy but it's OK because the Kung Pao was good however he described it as spicy and it was far from spicy. My family and I were heartbroken when W's--Lotus' predecessor--permanently shut its doors. When Lotus popped up, we had concerns that the food was going to be completely different and not maintain the quality that was previously provided in regards to the food and service, but when we first visited, we were very pleased to say the least. The food was delicious, service was very nice and quick, and it seemed easy to get a table, with or without a reservation. The lighting dims as the daylight goes, creating a much more intimate and comfortable ambiance! My only complaint is more of a personal problem (completely my fault) where I left something behind during our most recent visit at the restaurant, and it has been difficult to communicate with and resolve the situation with management/the owners to determine what happened to the item. Felt so bad having to go back and forth with the server as the middleman that I ultimately gave up, as it was frustrating for the both of us to not have resolved the issue earlier. Aside from this problem, my family and I are very happy with the outcome of this restaurant, and we are pleased to continue and support this business for as long as we had supported W's. Their website says they close at 9, so we thought we'd have plenty of time to eat and chat and get caught up There were not many other diners, so we were seated right away. Food was decent, but a bit overpriced; however the portions are big Service was fine while we were dining, however at around 8:15, my friend and I were the only ones left in the restaurant. The posted closing time is 9:00, so we continued to chat and my friend was finishing her glass of wine. At 8:45, our waiter came to our table and said they ( the staff) wanted to go home. I asked what time they closed. He answered that the kitchen closed at 8:30, but no one else was there in the restaurant. ( we didn't want to order anything else, we were just chatting) I was shocked, but my friend and I quickly left.
