This place is soo good. It was recommended to me by someone when I was asking for ramen recs in the area, and this had a lot of variety. We also picked it because the vibe and the interior looked really cool. It's a little weird because I think it's almost like self seating? But you still get service. The people there are super nice! I asked for a recommendation and I know it's always a gamble since people have different preferences, which the guy did caveat, but I followed what he said he usually eats on his break and I'm so glad I did! I like that the menu tells you the soup, sauce, and toppings for each item. It's wonderfully detailed. Tonkotsu miso: 9.5/10. Absolutely delicious. I think my only small thing is that my friend got certain toppings in his tonkotsu shoyu that I would've also liked in mine, but that's all. The broth was rich without being too heavy, thanks to the miso. On the flip side, the tonkotsu didn't overpower the miso. It was a good blend of both broths. The noodles are a bit thicker here - maybe medium - and it worked really well! Good texture and good level of doneness UFO dumplings: 8/10. The UFO dumplings were curved which is cool and slightly different from the versions I usually see at a Chinese restaurant. It's cute. At first bite, I was genuinely pleasantly surprised with how much flavor the skirt had. Dumplings were super moist. Not the most flavorful dumpling I've ever had, but pretty high up there. The chicken flavor was very prominent and the tare was very aromatic. The pieces of chashu was thinly sliced, and I wish there was more slices since it was extra chashu. The wavy thin noodles paired really well with the broth and it reminded me of the bowl I had in Japan. I was extra hungry so I also ordered a fried chicken combo with fried rice and salad. Chicken karaage was seasoned and fried perfectly. The sauce on the salad paired really well with the cabbage. Fried rice was a little soggy but wasn't expecting much. This is the place to go if you want ramen. The place is a little small but it feels purposeful so as to make sure each dish is crafted perfectly, which it was. By the time my brother and I arrived, we were the only customers. My brother ordered the spicy shio tonkatsu while I got the spicy miso. I don't order ramen often but when it arrived, I was blown away by the size. The spicy miso was absolutely delicious. The broth was thick, flavorful, and not too spicy and the noodles were great. Wanted ramen while in the area and found this place online. Walking in truly transports you to a old style ramen shop in Japan. I was not expecting much when I visited Jidaiya Ramen on a whim during a sleepy weekday lunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly service provided by the two ladies at the restaurant upon entering and dining here. I got so accustomed to experiencing lousy service in Gardena and Torrance as of late, so I was extra surprised for all the good reasons. The spicy miso ramen I had did not disappoint. It had lots of toppings that made it extra satiating. The chashu was a bit on the overcooked side and very lean for my taste. Nothing bad. Just not what I am accustomed to. It was also not very spicy, but the server told me I can have it adjusted to spicier taste the next time. The gyoza was nice and crispy. Loved how well seasoned the fillings were and I could skip the extra seasonings. Hardly had to wait for my orders to come piping hot and the attentive service really helped make the dining experience pleasant. I can't emphasize that enough. It's rare to find that especially in that particular area. Love the retro Showa style decor too. The only issue I had per se was the lack of air conditioning and tight parking spaces. It can be a tad bit oily depending on what you order so be mindful of that. I usually add vinegar to my broth if that's the case. There are plenty of toppings on the standard order but you can definitely add more. Service is friendly and attentive. I have only been here once when there was a wait but it wasn't too long. Jidaiya ramen has a lot of other nice options. I really enjoyed the tsukemen ramen, the shoyu ramen and the spicy ramen options as well. The cold noodle salad served during summer is very tasty. Located in a small plaza, the restaurant has a quite unassuming store front. However, when you walk in, it felt like you have stepped into a men-ya in Tokyo with its traditional Japanese layout. We were seated right away since we arrived before the dinner peak hours. The server was very attentive and took our orders of Tonkotsu and Shoyu ramen right away. The orders arrived in about 10minutes. Wow, from the broth standpoint these two ramens are quite contrasting. The Tonkotsu has a rich flavor with thicker broth and full of collagen. On the hand, Shoyu was on the lighter side with clearer broth and milder taste. About the noodles, Tonkotsu's is thicker than Shoyu's but both were cooked perfectly with good consistence. I tried my friend's Tonkotsu ramen and it was a bit more salty than I prefer for myself but more dense in flavor. The Chicken Yatai is more light and comforting if you don't want a heavy meal. Also their takoyaki was yummy with the crispy exterior and beautiful presentation except this dish didn't have the bonito flakes on top that you'd find at other places. I came here a few weeks ago while searching for a decent ramen spot in the Torrance and Gardena area after my previous go-to declined in quality and service. TL;DR: I still need to keep looking. I wanted to like this place, but the ramen I had (spicy miso) was bland and disappointing. Both of us ordered the same broth, and I added eggs to mine. Neither of us finished more than a quarter of the bowl. It just was not good enough to keep eating, even though we were hungry. Full disclosure: we were here last week entirely because a random website with random discounts for random restaurants (clearly: not *Yelp*) sent us a discount coupon for it, and it's not *that* far from Long Beach, so I took it, haha. Verdict: service was great, the ramen itself was just pretty good - very rich, but not *super* pork-y tonkatsu broth, with good but not amazing chashu pork, and only one thin slice unless you pay a few bucks more (funny enough, I'd actually asked how much pork you get with it, the waitress said she thought 3 slices, so I said that sounded enough. The actual answer is, for the record, 1 slice.) Pretty solid amount of noodles and veggies, though, and great veggies - and the spicy red bomb is worth it if you like peppers. It isn't crazy spicy - just spicy enough. (My wife got a random pork dish that wasn't ramen, the ginger pork, which I also tried a bite of and said was good but not amazing - but I also probably wouldn't go to a ramen place and not get ramen!) That said, funny enough, we also shared a side order - they do have solid prices on add-ons, including 4 dollars for 3 pieces of Karaage chicken and some fried rice. The fried rice was just ok - the Karaage chicken is OMG. There's a Karaage place down the street from us that claims to have won a bunch of awards - well, it's not bad, but the Karaage here is weirdly fantastic. So maybe I'm wrong about going to a ramen place and not getting ramen, cause if I were back here, I'd probably actually just skip the ramen and go straight for Karaage. No alcohol, their only drink choices are $3 cans of soda or unsweetened green tea (which also wasn't the green tea pictured on the menu, but it was as good of a brand, anyway).
