My favorite ramen spot in Torrance! The Tonkotsu, Black Tonkotsu, God Fire and black devil are all great choices! I love how you can choose how you'd like your taste in broth "light" or "regular" You can also choose the hardness of your noodles "soft, normal, hard or very hard" You can also choose if you'd like green onions or not. Not to mention but the service is always usually great! Alyssa is always very sweet and welcoming every time! She makes all of us feel happy to return This place is usually crowded and pretty loud so have some patience if there is a wait! I love coming here

Came for a quick Friday night dinner. Was seated almost immediately and food came out quickly. The curry was flavorful, and the pickles provided on the side were a great touch that added a crunch and an acidic flavor that complemented the curry. The Katsu was also fried nicely and overall well done, but not the best I've ever had. I will say, the rice to curry ratio was lacking. I ended up with a lot of rice and no curry, and I had to ration my curry so I didn't end up with just white rice in my bowl. The Ramen noodles were firm and not overcooked, which I really enjoyed. The broth had a good kick to it, but overall was on the light side. Overall, it was a solid bowl of Ramen, but also not very unique in my opinion. I think this is a great option if you want something quick and if you live around the area, but I wouldn't drive out of the way to come back.

Came here to meet up with a friend, and it was great company to go alongside great ramen. At the table, there are paper sheets to choose the type of ramen, spice levels, richness, and noodle texture, among other things. The server came over to simply collect out sheets. I was intrigued by the Black Devil Ramen, and was feeling adventurous. I only got Spice Level 2 with a lighter broth, and it was rich and packed a punch! Can't imagine what a normal, or even heavy, broth would taste like. I enjoyed both broths individually, and then mixed together. To be honest, I think I enjoyed the separate broths more, but the contrast of colors make for great pictures. I wasn't sure if the offer for extra noodles were extra or not, but we ended up opting out as we were pretty full already. I was a little disappointed that the base ramen only came with the tonkatsu, green onion, and bamboo. I don't recall there being any other toppings. For $16-17, this is definitely on the pricier side! The waiters served us well and constantly checked in to see if we needed anything. There was a steady stream of customers on this Sunday afternoon, and I can see why!

Pretty amazing hakata ramen....especially the black garlic. I would definitely come back if I was in the area. I love a place that lets you customize your ramen pretty well and here you definitely can. Your noodle firmness, toppings and add ons, seasonings, etc. Black Garlic: Get! The regular tonkotsu is good too but this one is where the flavor is at. Just an amazingly flavorful broth combined with very firm noodles to give it that extra bite and mmmmm this just makes my day. Food: 9/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 8/10 Value: 7/10

One of the best ramen places in Southern California. Great ramen bowls and side dishes. Food is excellent, service is great, ambience fantastic. It is the ONLY Hakata Ikkousha Ramen location in North America.

Have always wanted to taste the tonkotsu ramen at this chain in another part of the world and finally gotten to it in Torrance. Mentai Ramen (tonkotsu with mentaiko paste) was well-balanced, albeit with a lighter tonkotsu soup base. The single slice of Chashu was paper-thin, unsubstantial and disappointing. The other ingredients (green onion, wood ear mushroom) were okay. Black Devil (a mix of God Fire and Black Tonkotsu) packed a punch, had deep tonkotsu richness, plenty spiciness and was a good eat. The noodles (thin Hakata style) were perfectly cooked according to our preferences. Complimentary fresh garlic and pickled ginger are available. Both broths were super oily. Spicy kara-age was anything but spicy, covered with some kind of more sweet than spicy sauce (wish we had ordered the original). Hakata style gyoza came with delicate skin, pork filling with dreamy texture but needed much much more crispness. Excellent service. Water on the table.

It had been quite a while since our last visit to Hakata Ikkousha Ramen, and I'm happy to say it was just as good as I remembered. I first discovered them at their Little Tokyo location years ago, though I believe that location has since closed. We stopped by on a recent Wednesday night around 8:45 p.m., and there was still a 10-15 minute wait. This place is clearly still very popular. I ordered the regular tonkotsu ramen and added steamed vegetables because I love the extra crunch and texture they bring to the bowl. The broth was rich, flavorful, and served piping hot, while the noodles had that slightly chewy texture I enjoy. My husband got a cabbage salad and the curry karaage chicken plate. The portion was generous, and the chicken was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. He was especially happy to have enough leftovers for another meal the next day. We had a comforting, satisfying meal we were craving. Even though the kitchen's last call is 30 minutes before closing, our server never made us feel rushed and allowed us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace.

I love ramen and so does my uncle. He brought me to try this place when I visited him. They have the best ramen with authentic creamy and deep umami flavors broth. I can't wait to go back again. Love their dessert too.

It had been years since our last visit, and with this chilly weather, I was really craving a good bowl of ramen and this place absolutely hit the spot. We were the first ones in, and the staff made us feel so welcomed right away. One small moment that really stood out: they noticed the napkins at our table were a bit small, and without us even asking, one of the waiters came over with larger ones. It may seem like a little thing, but to me that kind of attentiveness and anticipation of a guest's needs speaks volumes. As for the food so, so good. I ordered the miso tonkotsu, my husband got the mentai tonkotsu, and we shared the chicken karaage... and OMG, the karaage was so incredibly delicious. Crispy, flavorful, just perfect. Everything about our experience felt warm and welcoming. We'll definitely be back

One of my absolute favorite ramen bowls. Seriously; the tonkotsu is so creamy and tasty. The service is fast and efficient, and the food is so good! I used to frequent shin sen gumi regularly but the lines are always outrageous there. Hakata Ikkousha doesn't have lines, at least the times I've been and the ramen is just as good as sin sen gumi. My family and I love to frequent here because we know what to expect. I will say on my latest visit, the ambiance was not it. Why? Well, because while everything else was on par, the music selection was highly inappropriate for a restaurant. Tupac's unedited Hit 'em Up was playing loud as we sat and ate, i had my kids with me. Look, I'm by no means a snowflake and hyper-sensitive to profanity-laced music, but this was completely unexpected at a family-friendly restaurant. I still plan to eat here in the future, but I just wasn't feeling the vibes during the last visit.

Second time here and I'm happy to say it was just as good as the first. The ramen was flavorful, the staff was friendly, and the overall vibe was great. Solid food, solid service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I'll definitely be back again soon!

My husband and I found our new ramen spot! The food was great and the portions were just right -- filling without feeling too heavy. My husband ordered the Spicy Miso with extra bamboo shoots and an egg, plus they had $5 draft Sapporo, which was a nice bonus. I had the Black Devil (a mix of black ramen and spicy ramen) at heat level 1, and it was honestly perfect -- flavorful with just enough kick without being overpowering. They were pretty busy for a Tuesday night, but we still got seated within about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. My only complaint would be the service -- the staff weren't very attentive during the meal and seemed to check in more once it was time to pay the bill. Overall though, the food definitely makes this a spot we'll be coming back to!

Was in the area at an event and we needed dinner after, couldn't really decide on anything so we ended up coming here for a bowl of ramen. There was a line, so we got in the wait list ahead of time, outright waited around 20 minutes before we were seated. The place was busy on a Saturday night, expected with most places though, but service was fast. We ordered a couple bowls of ramen and katsu curry. The God fire ramen has a tonkotsu broth with thin noodles and pork chashu. You have to pay separate for an egg, unfortunately, but got an egg as well. The broth was decent, I made it a level 3/4 spice, but it still wasn't very spicy. Could have got the level four easily. The regular tonkotsu ramen was similar, a little less spice added to that one per her choice, but really, the ramen didn't stand out necessarily. As for the pork chashu, the chicken was cooked well, nice crispiness on the outside, and the curry sauce was ok. But, again, it didn't stand out in any particular way. Overall, a known ramen spot that was voted best ramen in LA about a decade ago (per documentation on their walls inside), but in a city that has so many ramen options, it really didn't leave a mark on us. It is decent, and if you happen to be in the area and really want ramen, head over, but, if not, you can look elsewhere.

We stayed in Torrance a little longer because we really didn't want to drive all the way back to K-Town and then drive down again. We went back right when they opened for dinner, hoping the power was back... and it WAS!!! I had originally planned to get the Chashu Ramen but since our lunch had been delayed, I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it. So I ordered the same one I had last year, the Kitakata Ramen. The broth tasted just as good as I remembered! Unfortunately, though, the chashu was a little tough this time. I remembered it being that melt-in-your-mouth kind of tender so I was a little disappointed. (Maybe it was because of the power outage? ) But everything else was excellent! We'll be back in LA for our son's graduation in May next year so hopefully we'll get another chance to visit Ban Nai. And hopefully with no power outage!

One thing I really appreciate is how accommodating they are with customizations. I usually ask for my ramen without nori (seaweed) and skip the egg, and they get it right every time. We were there for 2 3/4 hrs, which was much too long. Ok,

The noodles, meats, and other topics come separate from the broth which is my preference, otherwise they'd probably be soggy by the time I got to it. The broth was really good. Mildly spicy as I like it and not too fatty/oily. The flavors here were wonderful. The noodle portions were solid as well. I was stuffed after eating all of this! I also got their gyoza, fries, and sausage appetizer. It was okay. The fries weren't the best, the gyoza was a little dry, but the sausages were smokey. I'm looking forward to visiting in person to try their other options!

It was quiet and nobody else was in the spot when I went, but I was there at an off time. Everybody that works there is super nice. Lots of open seating in booths or tables. Looks like one room has singing or karaoke at night?! The Ramen I got totally hit the spot. I love garlic Ramen. There were a lot of great flavors and textures in the Ramen and I was able to adjust the spice level on the miso. I think I went with medium it was a good level, not spicy. The karage chicken was crispy on the side moist on the inside. Love the bite-size pieces. The gyozas were OK, but I kind of found the inside a little bit mushy which left the flavor a little bit flat. But the outside texture was great. Still, I would definitely go back and try other things and go for the ramen happy hour!

10/10 -- We'll Definitely Be Back!…read more I recently tried Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen for the first time with a group of six leaders from my job. One of our coworkers has been coming here for 20 years, so we knew we were in good hands! The menu is EXTENSIVE and can be a little overwhelming for a first-timer, but our waitstaff was amazing--patient, friendly, and happy to help us navigate all the options. And trust me... we ordered! We tried several lunch combos, appetizers, and sides. I had the veggie ramen, and our table also enjoyed the fried green beans, veggie spring rolls, fried rice, and plenty of other goodies. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. What I loved most was the comfortable, no-frills atmosphere. This place has clearly been doing what they do for a long time, and it almost feels like you're eating in Grandma's kitchen--good food, welcoming service, and no need for anything fancy. And PLEASE don't leave without trying the plum wine! We ordered a bottle for the table, and it was delicious. 10/10 for the food, service, and overall experience. Ramen lovers, put this one on your list! We'll definitely be back.

I've been going to Tomizo since they opened. There were a few months after the initial visit that I…read moredidn't go and I'll explain in a sec, but since then I come probably twice a month now. Ironically speaking, I do not like Sapporo style ramen. I've never been a fan of Miso ramen, and for some reason Sapporo style is just something I do not enjoy. That being said, everyone I know that does like Sapporo style ramen say it is good. But then, why am I giving this place 5 stars and why do I eat here so often? Tomizo added tsukemen to their menu, and they have the best tsukemen in the area. It's a very rich heavy fatty tsukemen, and it blows away everywhere else's tsukemen in the area. The portions are always extremely generous as well. The most important thing is, they use actual tsukemen noodles, they are fat and thick, while a lot of places near here give you ramen noodles for their tsukemen. The other thing I absolutely love about this place is that they have seasonal ramen, and while I'm not a huge fan of some of them, other times they are just amazing. The current seasonal ramen is a cold cream tonkotsu style, and it is absolutely divine. My partner got it last night and it was so good, I wanted to come back tonight to get an order of it myself. I absolutely hope they decide to add it to their main menu permanently, because a cold ramen dish would be a god send to have readily available. The staff are all wonderful, incredibly attentive, and are all very cheerful and upbeat. The music variation changes quite a bit. Sometimes it'll be vocaloid heavy, other times it'll be very late 90s sounds of Tokyo (Fantastic Plastic Machine, Pizzicato Five), or sometimes an early 2000s jpop play list. As someone a little older I don't think there's ever been a time I didn't enjoy the music being played. They also always have dodgers games (reruns during the offseason) playing on a tv for the local fans. The only real bad thing about Tomizo is the parking lot is tiny and shared with a sushi place that can get busy. So parking can be difficult sometimes.

The last time I came was sometime last year. I used to love the food here…read more Things to note that have changed. The spice levels are now serious lol, they pour less broth, and the fried rice changed. They skimped out on the meat in the fried rice and the flavor and texture has changed. Different physical menus to, not that it matters all that much. I give it a 2 now only because I am comparing this place to what it used to be...
