    Yamadaya tonkotsu

Authentic ramen, cooked to perfection, served in a mom and pop setting. The indoor dining space is very small, but it's intimate and service was excellent. The broth was flavorful and the ramen came in three different sizes-- thin, thick, and extra thick. I prefer the thick setting.

Haven't been here in so many years, but enjoyed their spicy ramen last weekend. Decor also seems to be updated and has a nice quirky vibe. The free ice-cream at the end was a great treat~

Food was pretty good! I got the tonkotsu ramen and a golden Cali roll, which was a deep fried California roll. The ramen was good, the broth was actually delicious! The golden cali was like a 5/10, I was expecting it to more crispy but it didn't have a crunch to it. Service was good! Came here during my lunch break and I was able to get my food quickly. Ambiance : parking is small as well as the inside

I recently visited Ramen Yamadaya and ordered the tsukemen, which was good. The dipping broth was flavorful, and the noodles had a great chewy texture that paired perfectly with it. The portion was satisfying and felt high quality.

Late night ramen joint in Torrance. I've probably driven by the place a thousand times but had no idea it even existed. Located in a strip mall, theres reasonable parking right outside. Lots of ramen choices but we decided to share a yamadaya tonkotsu and upgraded to the jumbo size since we both weren't super hungry. Still plenty of food. Soup was a bit salty but still decent. Pork was very tasty. The one thing that bothered me a bit was the fact that we were still halfway eating when the girl suddenly came out with our check and two cups of ice creams. Lady....we're literally halfway done! And they were not near closing time. By the time I got to my ice cream it was half melted...Really weird. Their bathroom is in the back. So you'll need to walk around the building-likely due to safety reasons.

While waiting at the traffic light on 182nd street, the tiny ramen place with upside down sign in a small plaza caught my eye and we decided to make a U-turn and try the restaurant. Just a warning: check the restaurant's location first, if you miss the plaza entrance, you will need to take a big loop to get back to the parking lot (personal experience). Inside is quite cozy with mom-pop meshiya feel and seating for 20 guests max. Since it was early in the day, we got seated right away and the courteous waitress brought the menu and water pronto. After browsing through the extensive menu, we ordered the Special Ramen Combos with Yamadaya tonkotsu ramens, along with one side order of fried rice and another one of gyoza and rice. Yamadaya Tonkotsu Ramen: The portion was on the sensible side. The tonkotsu based broth was nicely creamy and savory. The thin style noodles had soft texture. The chashu slices were fried and crispy. The egg was fully boiled instead of runny. Fried Rice: The fried rice was slightly mushy and seasoning was on the light side. The sweetness from excess corns also kind of overpowered the overall taste of the dish. Gyozas: The wraps were slightly crunchy as if they were deep fried. The fillings were mildly seasoned which went well with the savory sesame shoyu dressing. The complementary vanilla ice cream was a nice way to round off the lunch. Overall, it was a pleasant meal but with room for improvement. We are going to try the restaurant again in the near future, just in case we caught them today on an off day.

This place is pretty good with decent prices. The Tsukamen is not as good as Tsujita. It has a exremely fishy taste. The tonkotsu had very little broth. The noodles and broth were good. They give you free green tea ice cream for dessert. Decent place with very reasonable prices. HAPPY TONKOTSUINV!

A friend recommend this place to my bf and I since my bf loves ramen. Super solid ramen joint with flavors that take me back to Japan. Creamy and rich broth, spiciness level was perfect for level 3. This was a good amount of spice to complement the flavor of the pork broth. It didn't burn, but had me sniffling. Shared a Hot Night tempura roll, also solid! Side of kimchi which was surprisingly good for a ramen/sushi shop. Side of edamame to share, it's was okay. But also, toppings are extra extra. $2 for corn? Mushroom? Spinach? Dried seaweed? 1.50 for level 3 spicy, for pepper? Really? Little scoop of complimentary ice cream at the end of the meal.

We dined inside for a late Monday lunch. Parking was super simple and while the restaurant was small, there was only one party inside. Service was slow, but friendly. Our ramen came out two at a time (not a big deal) and the appetizers came out with the meal. Between the five of us, we had the Tonkatsu, Vegan, and Chicken ramen. All were incredible -- some of the best ramen we've eaten!!! The broth was amazing and the noodles had a perfect amount of chew. The karaage was typical, but good. The avocado fries were huge and delicious, like something you'd eat at the county fair. At the end our meal we were given little vanilla ice creams -- an unexpected treat! Lastly, the restaurant has a bathroom, but you can't access it from the dining area (you'd have to walk through the kitchen) -- walk around the strip mall to the back and it has signs. Lastly, I noticed that Yelp reviews were all over the place, including many recent 1-star reviews -- there must be a lot of haters out there! Our experience was excellent!!!

Ambiance: it's a tiny ramen restaurant located conveniently off the freeway, limited parking spots in the shared plaza Service: friendly but forgetful, they placed the wrong order for our table, but served the same item we returned to kitchen to the next group of guest seated afterwards Food: they cook ramen dishes here, and grab sushi items from the Jackpot sushi right next to the plaza, identical menu items and prices, I happened to dine in at both places so it's easy to figure it out TONKOTSU SPICY RAMEN - *** Rich pork broth with salt base soup, toppings of Bamboo Shoot, Green Onion, Marinated egg, Braised Pork, Sesame Seed, tasty pork and chewy noodles, but insanely salty broth SPICY CHICKEN WINGS - *** 4pcs Deep Fried Chicken Wing with Korean Spicy Sauce, crispy outside but flavorless inside Yamadaya Tonkotsu - *** Signature ramen, rich pork broth with salt base soup, with toppings including bamboo shoot, green onion, pork belly, marinated egg, braised pork, kikurage mushroom, dried seaweed, sesame seed, average KARAAGE CHICKEN - **** Deep Fried Marinated Chicken with Mayo, recommend Chashu Bowl - *** Chashu pieces topped with scallions. Served with homemade sweet sauce and mayo, average Price: moderate portions and acceptable quality, expect $25~$30 per person

Very small place! But happy that there were seats available for party of 4. So much to choose from! All was so yummy, bellies were full! Glad to have come try; more food options to try the next time.

Left a review 7 years ago and came back to revisit one of my favorite ramen spots and was...kinda disappointed. B rating hanging on the door. Ouch! The broth is still the best I have ever had. The other stuff...not so much. Would highly recommend asking for THIcK noodles instead of the Angel string noodles provided. You can make your bowl jumbo size for an extra $7 which my brother from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program opted for(if you can't donate money to make our community a better place then donate your time because it will make you feel better while helping someone else). He also ordered a bun too. I remember when I could just eat non stop...sigh...I can't even finish a ramen bowl by myself.

The place is kind of small but the service is good because I got free small bite ice-cream after meal.

    No they don't.

Vegan ramen is on the menu! It's really good. I get it every time.

Service was very quick, polite and attentive. My go-to order here is the large Chashu ramen. It's $21.45 at the time of this review, a bit much, but this might be the biggest portion of ramen in the area. I'm a big eater and I've never found myself wanting to order extra noodles, or needing an appetizer to get full. The soup is much lighter than most places in the area. You won't be overwhelmed with fatty soup here, but it still has a nice savory pork flavor to it. Most of the times I've come here, the cut of pork they use for the chashu is very lean. Noodles are the stand out. They're thick, curly and chewy. Such a different texture compared to other places. I like this place because it offers big portions, lots of meat and isn't overwhelmingly fatty like other places. If there was anything I wish they could add to their menu, I'd like them to add freshly pressed garlic as a topping. There's lots of good ramen in the area, I've had almost all of them, and I think this one is slowly becoming my favorite spot.

The manager lady is amazing, charismatic, and highly memorable. They're full service, they packed my leftovers. The Highlight (Pork Rice Bowl): Generous portion of rice and incredibly tender pork. Mixing in the egg and mayo made the dish, became the highlight of my meal. The Perks: Their menu is simple and straightforward, and adding extra toppings to your ramen is actually relatively inexpensive. The Disappointment (Shacho Ramen): This was my first meal here without fried chicken, and the Shacho Ramen unfortunately fell flat. It completely lacked the complexity and depth I was looking for. The Broth: Had the rich, heavy sesame creaminess I demanded, but it was incredibly one-note outside of that. The Spice: Level 2 had no heat at all. I asked for a side of extra spice, which helped a bit, but didn't save the dish. The Noodles: Very bland.Ended up packing most of it away Verdict: Come for the great service, cheap add-ons, and excellent rice bowls, but pass on the Shacho Ramen.

With that disclaimer out of the way, here's my humble opinion of the ramen at Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen. It's okay. When I came here yesterday afternoon, I ordered the Hakata Ramen which is basically a tonkotsu style ramen. Every aspect of it is customizable including the broth, noodles, and toppings. I just went with the default options, which i believe they recommend for first timers. On the side, I got a flavored egg, and pork belly. The broth was solid. It was flavorful, and fatty. The noodles were the right firmness as well. However, the chashu pork and pork belly were pretty mediocre. I know this sounds harsh but hear me out. Even after bathing them in the broth, they were dry and not tender. I didn't enjoy the flavored egg either. It was overly boiled and barely marinated. Despite the shortcomings noted above, I'm still giving this place four stars because the service is fantastic. The staff is very nice and provide incredibly fast service. My drink came out in like one minute. The refill came out even faster. They also offer free refills of the noodles.
