Gomez Law APC - AVOID AT ALL COSTS Gomez Law APC is currently under investigation by the California state bar due to their actions in my case. Please pay close attention not just to this review, but to all their other negative reviews. You'll see a consistent pattern of negligence, misrepresentation, and unethical behavior that should be a massive red flag for anyone considering this firm. If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Gomez Law has been a cautionary tale in legal malpractice, financial exploitation, and total abandonment. I retained this firm in January 2024 for a complex real estate dispute involving a home with over $800K in equity. I trusted them to represent my best interests. Instead, they dragged out the case, billed me for 301 hours at excessive rates, delivered minimal progress, and then filed a motion to withdraw as counsel in April 2025--just months before trial. To make matters worse, after walking away from the case, they filed a $107,000 lien against any future judgment or settlement--essentially holding my case hostage. They didn't just send this to me--they also sent it to opposing counsel, effectively sabotaging ongoing and future negotiations. Their actions were not only unprofessional but, in my opinion, vindictive and deliberately obstructive. It gets even more outrageous. When I showed up to my one and only in-person hearing, My attorney wasnt even there . Instead, only Robert, their paralegal, was present--alone and clearly unprepared. While I was being questioned by the judge and mocked by opposing counsel, the paralegal sat silently. The judge even asked him directly to step in to help his client--and he did nothing. No objection. No defense. No support. I was essentially left alone in court, unrepresented, while the firm continued to rack up charges. To this day I have no idea if an actual attorney showed up for any of my hearings or did they just send a paralegal.. After the hearing--moments after they were removed as counsel--Charles Gomez called me to say he would "continue settlement negotiations before the removal was finalized." That never happened. That phone call was the last I ever heard from him or anyone at the firm. To top it all off, I later discovered that Charles Gomez is not a partner or even related to Mark Gomez, the supposed head of the firm--despite the misleading implication made when I retained them. This kind of misrepresentation is not just deceptive--it's foundational to how they operate. I am currently pursuing a formal complaint through the State Bar of California and consulting on a potential malpractice suit. If you value competent, ethical, and genuinely client-focused legal representation, look elsewhere. Gomez Law APC is a textbook example of everything broken in our legal system--and trusting them cost me dearly. UPDATE: In response to Mark Gomez's reply below--let me be perfectly clear. His statement is a transparent attempt to spin this serious situation into an empty PR exercise. The "we can't speak to the details" line is laughable, especially considering how many of those details were created by the firm's own misconduct--and are verifiable through court records, billing statements, written communications, and testimony. First falsehood: they claim they "had success" in my case. What success? The firm abruptly withdrew months before trial, after running up over 301 hours of billing--producing almost no meaningful movement in the case. There is no outcome, no resolution, no judgment, and no settlement. The only "success" here was for their billing department. Second falsehood: they claim they "reached out" to resolve this. In fact, I received an after-the-fact phone call from Charles Gomez mere minutes after their withdrawal, stating he would continue settlement talks--which never happened. After that, radio silence--until I began leaving public reviews. I rejected a recent offer for a "call" because by then, I had already filed a formal Bar complaint and was pursuing malpractice counsel. At this stage, proper legal remedies--not private phone calls--are appropriate. Third misleading point: this response paints them as caring professionals while ignoring the real facts--like the fact that I was left alone at my only in-person hearing, with no attorney present (only an unprepared paralegal who offered no assistance as I was questioned by the judge and mocked by opposing counsel). This is not "diligence and care"--this is abandonment and, in my opinion, malpractice. Finally, their entire response reads like an ad for the firm--not a genuine attempt to acknowledge or take responsibility for a clear pattern of behavior, now corroborated by multiple other ex-clients who have contacted me since my original review--many with nearly identical stories of being overcharged, misled, and abandoned. In addition, I have since spoken to a former Gomez Law attorney who basicly said this was "not a surprise" to them. read more

Hired this firm for a Real Estate Purchase Dispute, their hourly rates are on the high end for their Attorneys and Legal Assistants. They charged me about $1300.00 to send out a single demand letter which I provided them will all the facts and evidence. They also charged me about $1200.00 to send out a couple of short emails and spend some time discussing the matter with me over the phone. The only bright side is Attorney Charles Gomez, who is a Good Person, knowledgable, and experienced in Real Estate Law. I prefer flat rates over signing retainers because you get billed for them reviewing an email, preparing an email, discussing an email, and sending an email! read more

BEWARE OF GOMEZ LAW I went to go Gomez law regarding my mother's estate in 2022. I hired attorney Jim Hornbuckle, to assist with my case. Within a few months his rate went up by $200 more per hour than what the contract had stated. Meantime we hadn't even gone to court to litigate my case. In essence this law firm is only out to take your money. In the past year I was over charged on invoices, I would call to try to discuss my invoices it would take numerous emails, phone calls, and text. When I would finally get to discuss my bill the law firm made me feel like I was the problem, when it was their mistake. The breaking point was I set a meeting to discuss my invoices, with this firm. They never lived up to the meeting, I emailed Jeffery Loong, and said it I'm waiting for you to call me to discuss my invoices, No response! The next time I spoke to the firm I spoke with Beatrice Reyes, she tells me that my case has been dismissed because I didn't pay my bill, I'm like excuse me... I've been trying to reach out you for weeks. She says oh I didn't receive your email I told her let me resend it to you right now. To show the proof it was sent to you. At this point she say oh let speak with my COO Roxanne, I asked her can I speak to Roxanne myself to explain my side, she never answered me. I contacted Gomez Law requesting a consultation as offered on their site. Their support people were rude and uncooperative. I was finally connected with an attorney only to find she was unfamiliar with my category. She apologized and referred me back to their front desk. I was put on repetitive endless holds. I called several times and left word requesting a callback. No one responded. I contacted another firm. I was able to secure their services. I suggest you avoid using a law firm who treats potential clients with such disregard. Perhaps their lawyers would be better served by a competent support staff. read more

Although limited, I had a great experience with Gomez Law and particularly with one of the senior trial attorneys, James Hornbuckle. Unfortunately I was involved in a law suit where my company was named as a co-defendant in a real estate related case. James was representing the other co-defendant and extended his insight and support to me despite not being a retained client. I'm truly grateful for the support and time he shared with me explaining the situation and I'm some of my options over the phone. He did that at no cost which was very helpful given the fact that I had already spent a significant amount money on items related to the case.
