I don't know if it's just me, or if bubble tea has been exploding in popularity in the past couple of years. I mean, you have a Gong Cha separated from Kung Fu Tea by one door! Competition must be fierce, unless it's a Dunkin' vs. Starbucks sort of rivalry... but, I digress. Anyway, a Yelp event at a different Gong Cha reminded me that there is a location nearer to me. Awesome! Today was finally time to give it a try. I ordered a Pearl Milk Tea, light ice, 50% sugar. The drink was okay. It had the right level of sweetness, however, I think the ice was minimal - as any that was added dissolved inside of five minutes, and this was on a 70° day (not 90°+). Sugar, ice, and everything nice aside, let's talk flavors: To me, the tea flavors got lost in there somewhere. I wouldn't go as far as to call it weak or watered down, but I definitely would have liked just a little more oomph. Finally, while the wait didn't end up being too bad, one person was running the whole show: taking orders/payment, and making drinks and food. I understand that things sometimes happen, yet, it's a matter of luck that there wasn't a large crowd gathered waiting for their drinks & food. This tea specialty place seizes to amaze me. They have Halloween themed teas. Red Blood Taro tea was my favorite so red and tasted like a blend a Strawberry and taro blended frozen tea. Now tonight I tried another tea called Chocolate Horror Delight, which tastes like a whole lot of chocolate and blended with whipped cream not sure if that's how they make it, but it's a really great surprise when you have the first sip! I only came to this Gong Cha grand opening for their BOGO deal: buy one get one free (off the top 10 menu only). I, myself, had the dirty brown sugar milk tea with regular ice and 70% sugar. To my taste, the 30% reduced sugar (70% sugar) was still too sweet. I think 50% would've been better. The boba was the right about of soft and chewy; however, they're like super mini. Literally, one sip and there's like 50 bobas in your mouth. The tea wasn't very potent in the drink, it's way too sweet and milky. It's like the leftover milk after drinking cereal. I'm a bit disappointed with this Gong Cha. I'll wait until they're less busy to try again. Hopefully, the quality will be much, much better! read more

So in the past 2 weeks I order the earl grey latte with 3 J's with milk foam. It's the only drink I'm obsessed with here and the reason why I have already prefer gong cha over the other places. I was really looking forward to this location opening, so I gave it several tries over the last few months before writing this review. That's a LOT coming from me, because I'm a huge bubble tea snob At this point, I'd rather go to the Malden location 30+ minutes way rather than this one, which is five minutes away when I stay in Boston. I'm pretty basic, I order the same 3 drinks at every Gong Cha, less sugar, less ice. But somehow, at this branch, every time my drink comes out just a bit a different. For the price they charge, I really expect some sort of consistency. My drink always tastes different, with varying amounts of ingredients each time. Some days, my 0% sugar tastes exactly like my 50% and 100% sugar drink. Seriously, how do they do that? It's a toss up if I'll like the drink I get any day here. I have also noticed that this location is the most reserved when it comes to adding premium ingredients (basically anything that's not plain tapioca). My ai-yu drink is always especially skimp here, compared to the Chinatown and Malden locations, nevermind the NY locations. I think I could have lived with all this, but the final straw was that on my last few orders, I actually decided to customize my drinks so that we might enjoy them more. I ordered several of their premium drinks that included tapioca - which is $1 more than their basic items. I asked that they replace the tapioca with the white pearl. Now, normally, tapioca is $0.50 and white pearls are $0.75. So you'd think they'd charge me the difference, right? Well, you'd be wrong. They charged me an additional $0.75 on top of all my drinks. Every. Single. One. I just can't with this location anymore. I came for the BOGO deal and I liked that there were 10 choices. Drinks run sugary sweet even if you ask for less sugar. The Earl Grey ($6 w/o tax) with 3J (herbal jelly, boba, and pudding) is pretty good as they were generous with the toppings. The Early Grey flavor is not as strong as other tea shops. The lemon aiyu ($5.50 w/o tax) is also another drink I would recommend with the blend of aiyu jelly, lemon peels, and clear bubbles (coconut? as its different from regular boba). The drink I would not recommend is the dirty brown sugar milk tea which has an artificial caramel flavoring to it. Service is prompt and they will tell you what comes with your drink. Needs work. Gong cha is well known. So when I see the name, I have a certain expectation. I'm stoked about this new location in Quincy but needs a lot of improvement in terms of taste. So I decided to return and get a Brown Sugar Milk with pudding, large, 50% sugar, less ice. The time btw me finish my transaction was less than 30 second and she said it's already made then she said she repeated twice to confirm my order, then she immediately said ok I will fix it and she walked away. At the moment my mood instead of going up, it goes down more... The big dude behind her was making my drinks and right after he finished making it, I was expecting a smile, an eye contact, a sorry, thank you or even a nod and I would be happy. However he just ignore me, no smile, no eye contact, not a single word, just walked away....=.= at that time, I was the only customer there, it's not even busy. I thought to myself, ok maybe there are something urgent they needed to do behind the kitchen such as cooking bubble. But the moment I saw them, they were just standing there swiping their phone.... Wow, I mean wow! There are many bubble tea place around here and why should I come here to be treated like this... just admit the mistake and miscommunication on both side due to the mask and thick glass and fix the drink and smile. I go here too much, I'm overly obsessed with their dirty brown sugar milk tea. They have nice chewy boba w a bit of sweetness and the milk teas are really good. It even tastes refreshing, the milkiness isn't too much it's just right. Their milk to tea ratio is perfecttt. They work super fast here so there is never a long wait even with lines/waiting people!
