Tomyum seafood
Chris T.

Nice homey spot with sweet staff! They offer AYCE hotpot for a reasonable price and have their full dinner menu as well! Place does get packed during dinner hours. That night we decided on curry pork, fried calamari, pan fried chicken with black pepper sauce and Tom yum seafood noodle with ramen! We also got different smoothies including a mystery flavor (or surprise me flavor from the owner). The portions here are always large, plenty of sauce no stinginess here. The chicken was moist, soak up the black pepper sauce with some white rice. Feels like a home meal! The curry is great because so many places use premade bagged curry portions and charge for extra bag being open. Here it's made in house and tasty! The Tom yum soup has depth to the flavor and it was not spicy for anyone whom may be wondering! Smoothies were all creamy and great consistency, no ice shards and also bits of real fruit in there!

I cannot overstate how amazing the food is but the service is always what shines through (if even possible as the food speaks for itself) The owner Joy and Carmen have been wonderful to us throughout the years and have treated us like long-awaited family since we first walked in for a meal. They are a crowd favorite amongst any family or friends that we have brought to meet them. Now it's been at least two years and Fairy Cafe has become a part of our monthly routine because we cannot stay away. They serve fresh veggies along with their delicious hotpot, amazing crab Rangoons, and they do so with warm hospitality at an affordable price. It's very clean and organized inside as well as very beautifully decorated and painted. They also have now hot pot + buffet and so we look forward to celebrating their future successes!

This place has an excellent service. Server was very kind and polite. I ordered their Shanghai soup dumpling and stir fry noodle. Big mistake on my part. I think this place has better hotpot and rice plate options. Soup dumpling was tasty and the juice inside these dumplings are rich. Stir fry noodle are okay but came with big portion. I think it's for 1-2 person serving. They have a lot of seats so bring everyone!!!

Free street parking on neighboring streets. Overall, the service was good and the food was "not bad". Pan fried dumplings were juicy and lightly fried with a good meat to skin ratio. Sticky rice texture was good but lacked flavor. Mala lamb noodles were too oily and heavy on the seasoning. The tofu skin was nice though Iced Hong Kong milk tea was nice to sip on with the spicy dish. The seasonings to the food were a bit heavy and made us feel quite bloated and thirsty after the meal.

fairy café is like warm, comfort, food. It won't knock your socks off, but it won't break your wallet either. we've been here multiple times for lunch and dinner. If we're not craving anything in particular, then we usually end up here if we are in the area. If you get a rice dish, the rice portion is huge, and we always have to pack most of it home Parking a street.

Update (December 2023) They do have AYCE hot pot buffet. The last time I got it, there was a bug in my veggies and needless to say, I didn't have an appetite afterwards and never ordered the AYCE hot pot again. Each visit, I tried a different soup and after 10 visits, my favorite is the Japanese style pork ramen AND the salt and pepper chicken wings. Don't forget the milk tea! Small local shop, always busy so you know it's popular. Would recommend checking out if you're in the area.

Great service, great soups. Took a couple of dishes to go. Everything was quick but tasted fresh. The mango and one other smoothie is made fresh and you can ask them not to add sugar. It was nice to have the option. Parking wasn't too difficult. 2 hour street spots around and a 1 hour lot for the bakery across the street. Not the best location but otherwise worth a visit.

not sure why this place is rated so high (i've also heard really good things!) maybe we did not order the right things? we arrived at 6:30pm and by 7 the place was full. the service was quick and friendly! we had a party of 7. i was surprised they let us do half AYCE hotpot and half order off regular menu. i can't comment on hotpot but the regular food was okay. ouu i did really like their salt and pepper wings. think wingding dinner wings but with really good seasoning. their seafood udon and beef with enoki mushrooms looked like their hotpot leftovers and they poured it over udon/rice (not bad and not particularly amazing either) i was really intrigued by their bbq taro. it was fine but not life changing crab rangoons were crispy and creamy. i didn't mind the soup dumplings. but i can see people thinking the wrap is thicker than usual and not a lot of soup inside. their watermelon shake was yummy! milk tea was fine -- a tad sweeter than i usually like it.

The service was amazing from entering to exiting. Kind and funny servers who's sense of humor can deal with my talkative father. My food was really good and so was the rest of my family's. We ordered from the regular menu. I also really enjoyed the Thai Tea drink. My dad loved the hotpot and kept himself entertained cooking his food and constantly asking the servers about how long each food takes. 10/10 would recommend if you're in the area.

Big Fun Cafe - 2 Item Clay Pot Rice Combo: Chinese Sausage and Bacon and Spare Ribs with Black Beans

The restaurant is relatively small and only have 17-20 seats. I ordered Chinese sausage and bacon clay pot rice and shrimp rice rolls with eggs. They have extra sauce ready for you on the table for both clay pot dish and rice rolls in case you need more sauce. The rice rolls are perfect. They aren't stingy with the shrimp and the claypot dish is also tasted like grandma's cooking. Service was awesome. Server was very welcoming and considerate. I will definitely return here in the future.

We ordered a rice roll as usual--the female owner accidentally handed the dish to another table, and it sat there for about five minutes or so, while the couple was talking over the dish. Then the female owner apparently realized the dish was handed to the wrong table, she took it back into the kitchen (as a deception, thinking we wouldn't realize it's the same dish, we saw her through the curtain, she was holding the same dish the whole time--she didn't know we were watching and rightfully suspicious of what she was sneakily doing), then brought it out right back to our table. We did not want to say anything. But it was disgusting, people do spit onto the dish when they talk over it during those five minutes, you know? We were too shy to cause a scene or destroy the long standing relationship. Further, we couldn't afford to let that $12 or so dish go to waste. So we tried eating it. Afterward, we felt so disgusted. And that was the last time we went to Big Fun Cafe. Two years or so ago. Even after learning of its new location in Brookline, we are just so disgusted by the memory of the incident described above -- so we never tried their Brookline location. Note to the owners: for future customers, such mistakes do happen, but please have some integrity and just discard/trash the contaminated dish -- or if you want to be so cheap, eat the contaminated dishes yourself. Don't be so stingy and deceptive so as to hand it to your presumed naive customers. That was extremely disgusting and even two years later, we're still disgusted by it.

Totally incongruous with the surrounding environment. Walked in... nothing fancy. Maybe 5 tables. The food was just not good. I had the big wonton soup ( the one with all the extras ). The broth was very bland. The wontons were the nice thin wrappers, but the filling tasted "off". And there was enough noodles in the bowl to make it difficult to eat. I ate a few bites and left the rest. I also ordered the boneless spare ribs. They had a nice cook to them. Nice color. Nice charing. But... just not flavorful, and dry. Very dry. I ate a few pieces, and left the rest. Over all, I would not recommend nor return.

The lemongrass chicken on rice ($14 w/o tax) is okay. Service is friendly and prompt. There is one bathroom for customer use.

Chow Foon (8/10): Extremely solid, with plenty of wok hei. I always judge chow foon off of the beef, and they did pretty well here. It was tender and flavorful. Noodles had perfect texture. Chicken Quarter Appetizer (7/10): This was pretty good fried chicken. Very crispy. I think Cafe Mami in Porter Square still does it better. It was a bit too greasy for me. It's VERY value though ($9.99 for a massive piece) Bolo Bao w/ Silky Scramble Egg (8.5/10): I haven't had this combo before, but it was very good. Their silky scramble egg dishes are a must-try. Cream-Filled French Toast topped with Ovaltine (9/10): Delicious. They somehow made cheese work with this. I applaud it. Baked Pork Chop w/ Portuguese Sauce (8.5/10): Portuguese sauce was delicious. Pork was tender and flavorful. Cheese on top was delicious. We waited about 90 minutes for Saturday lunch. I would highly recommend not coming with more than 4 people. If you do, you should split your party. They only have one large table. Service was very good, though. Food came out super fast.

Be prepared to find street parking and even do a little walking. As for wait time, I have been here twice during lunch and on the second trip I did have to wait 20 minutes for a table. The restaurant was packed and there were plenty of takeout orders throughout the meal when I dined in both time. Clearly, a local favorite. You can try the trio appetizer that lets you try the fish ball, fish dumpling, and rice rolls. It's the right amount to share with three people and each person gets a taste of the three appetizers. My favorite had to be the rice balls, followed by the fish dumplings, and last the rice noodles. Of the toasts I have tried so far, I preferred the sweet toast dessert filled with milk as opposed to the truffle egg toast. For entree, I have to say, the fried chicken with the omelet egg is a must try. Next would be the Hainese chicken. Then third with be the sorrowful rice, which is two fried eggs and bbq pork. Everything was so flavorful. You have to try the milk teas. If you prefer sweet, go for the ice bear milk tea, but if you like a bit bitter, go for the hot version and add sugar to your preference. Overall, food came at a fast pace, service attentive. There is plenty of seating end even seating in a private dining space for a larger group of 10 or so in the back of the restaurant. I would definitely be coming back. See my pictures.
