It was creamy, with the iconic Marionberry sweet and tart flavors, and the crust was flakey and crispy. The Lemon and Poppyseed and the Vanilla Bean Kouign Amann pull apart croissants were both hefty in weight but a flavorful delight! The pastry selection is decent, but for the price, we didn't find them earth-shatteringly delicious. We ordered an almond and chocolate croissant, respectively. The service was not warm or inviting in the least. This made the "question" on the screen irritating because, if I recall correctly, the tip amount automatically ranged 18% - 23% which I found lofty considering the employee grabbed the pastry from the case, put it in a bag and onto the counter for pickup. There are bagel sandwiches on the menu so maybe this tip structure is factored into someone actually preparing the food, but it still seemed misaligned as most places do lately. I tipped anyway thinking maybe this person wasn't having the best day. Even after trying to be friendly and paying we were still met with cold indifference. Maybe Alpenglow supplies local shops and this is an experiment for general public purchases. I'm sad to say, but I recommend going elsewhere for friendlier service and better tasting pastries.

As mentioned in the first bullet point under "Brief Summary," on the first Saturday we were able to visit their store and bought some desserts. However on the second Saturday, we looked and walked around the whole park but they were nowhere to be found. I'm not sure if they arrive at this Farmer's Market bi-weekly, so the second week just happened to be a random day off, I'm not sure. There was a line forming three feet away from the cake's display cases, and after we were lining up, one of the staff members handed us a number card. When they called, that was the time for us to pick and choose the cakes. There were a ton of different cakes to choose from. Some of them were the ones I saw as yelp photos, and some I have never seen them before. A whole treasure trove of pretty cakes to choose from, it was very difficult to narrow it down to the ones we wanted. In the photo, it only contains three, but we have also ordered small cookies and a fluffy soufflé cheesecake. This cheesecake, we ate soon after we bought it. The texture is brittle but moist, so it's not the typical dense and creamy version. (I liked this one because the post-mouthfeel is light). The cookies were nice shortbread cookies; airy and buttery. We bought two different types: original and strawberry, and I liked the original more. I tasted the strawberry flavor in the second one but I preferred the sweetness in the first (the strawberry cookie had a tartier flavor from the strawberry) I don't recall the exact names of the three cakes that are shown in the photo, but there was a coffee chocolate parfait, the cream brûlée, and the grapefruit fruit tart. The three desserts were not too sweet and also not too decadent, so these we slurped up with our spoons like it was nothing. My favorite was the coffee parfait because of the creamy top and the refreshing coffee jelly underneath. I mixed the contents together because on their own they don't have the magic pop.

Walking in less than an hour before closing, we were surprised to see most of the items still in stock! We ended up picking four things to try: Vanilla Bean Kouign Amann ($7) - This pasty has a sweet yet salty exterior that's complementary in flavor rather than clashing. It's accentuated with a crunchy glazed and caramelized sugar layer that's on the sweeter side. The interior is interesting. There's a cavernous gap right in the center that's filled with a sickly sweet melted sugar syrup. It's unpleasantly sweet and very cloying. The puffed and filled area is large enough that it compresses the other layers so the kouign amann is dense. I've never had a kouign amann quite this sweet before. (3/5) Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Thyme ($5.50) - This cake is so moist and rich, thick and dense, fatty and rich, that it feels like I"m eating a slab of butter. I'm sure it has just as many calories too! It's quite sweet, although not nearly to the level of the kouign amann. Overall, it's just a really rich and decadent cake. (4/5) Blueberry + Vanilla Cream Brioche Donut w/ Earl Grey ($6) - The top of the pastry is dressed with a cream that has an unmistakably strong bergomot earl grey taste. I wish there was way more cream - there's essentially only a dab on top! The rest of the donut is filled with a custardy light blueberry and vanilla jam. It's not too sweet and has an excellent high quality blueberry fragrance, creating an exceptionally strong blueberry taste. The jam is not too thick and is somewhat syrupy from sugar. The donut itself is really soft and extremely airy. It's the fluffiest donut I've eaten in a long time. (5/5) Raspberry Rose Cruffin ($8.50) - This pastry has some fun dehydrated raspberries sprinkled right on top of a light and fluffy cream that's not too sweet. The cruffin base is buttery in taste and great lamination even when filled with the custard and rose/raspberry cream. This is a heavy cruffin that's very filling. (5/5) Twisted Croissant certainly does some some really delectable treats. It's one of my favorite bakeries in Portland!
