Why, oh why have I never been to Twisted Croissant before? Located in Irvington on Broadway, this bakery produces some of the most delicious pastries I've had in a long time. Crispy, airy, buttery and oh, so delicate, my raspberry cruffin was the dessert dreams are made of! If you've never had a cruffin... what are you waiting for?! It's croissant dough baked into a muffin shape. And the particular version I ordered today was filled with sweet and creamy vanilla custard and raspberry jelly. My mouth is watering describing this now, a true sign I'll be returning to experience this delicacy time and time again. There are three locations of Twisted Croissant in Portland, and this is the only one I've visited. The interior has a classic Parisian bakery vibe, clad in white subway tile from floor to ceiling. The bakery case in front of the store is beautifully stocked with fresh pastries, perfect for enjoying with a cup of coffee or tea. However, be advised, there are only two tables in the back of their public space, so it's not particularly inviting space to sit and enjoy your breakfast. Pretty expensive but anytime you come to a bakery like this it's a luxurious experience. We visited on a Sunday afternoon; many of the items seem sold out but what was left was still delicious. We tried their chocolate croissant and the seasonal earl grey blueberry cheesecake. The croissant has gorgeous lamination with a delicious thick filling. I had to swat my husband away from the last bite and he's not even a croissant guy! The cheesecake was also excellent, not too sweet which was a surprise. The blueberry flavor came through while the earl grey was more subtle. Both felt decadent. There's limited indoor seating, one long standing table. Talk about amazing crossaints, this place knows what they're doing!!! A super nice employee helped me decide what to order. I ended up with a plain butter croissant and the lemon poppyseed pull apart croissant. The butter corssaint was so incredibly light, flakey and buttery, one of the best butter croissants I've ever had. And the lemon poppy seed one was truly divine, I've never had anything like it. I totally forgot to take a picture because they looked so good I reflexively inhaled them. Overall a 10/10 for flavor, customer service, and overall experience. They have a Cafe in NW portland. This localtion (in NE PDX) is their main bakery to my knowledge. We tried the lemon blueberry pull apart again and it was ridiculously amazing (again!). Nice to see the consistency and a mark of a great, professional bakery. This time we also tried the passion fruit cream puff. WOW!! Also exceptional. Tart passionfruit center with a giant ball of vanilla cream on top and a perfectly baked choux pastry. I can highly recommend both those items! Having tried just 2 items thus far but both being exceedingly good, this bakery has easily risen to the top of the heap in terms of PDX bakeries for me. The experience was horrendous and uninviting. The employee didn't greet me, the store was not kept up, and it was 4pm and the store closes at 6pm and they only had 3 items. I adore Twisted Croissant! I like to come here and order one of almost everything and then share it with the fam. We have lots of favorites. The kids can't get enough of the chocolate croissants and sesame donuts which are much more refined than any croissant or donut they've had prior. I'm obsessed with the Raspberry Rose Cruffin which is easily the best pastry in Portland (sorry JinJu I love you too). The savory pastries are also fantastic! I'm not big on cheesecake but my family is and they'd lay down and die for the basque cheesecake here - watching them eat this you'd think they were starving. The coffee is also outstanding. My sister and I stopped by this croissant spot in the afternoon, around 3 PM, so we knew we might be limited on options and we were. Most items were sold out, so we both went with the s'mores croissant. To be honest, it was more of a chocolate croissant with some light s'mores-inspired toppings. The inside was filled with a rich chocolate mousse, and the only thing that made it "s'mores" was a drizzle of marshmallow on top and a few bits of graham cracker sprinkled over it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't $8-worthy either. Texture-wise, the croissant was flaky but lacked that signature buttery, soft interior you'd expect. Instead, it felt a bit heavy and overbaked. I get that we came later in the day, but I've had croissants from other bakeries close to closing time that still tasted fresh, light, and delicious. If you're going to market something as a s'mores croissant, it would be great to see that theme carried throughout maybe with a marshmallow or graham layer inside, or at least more balanced flavors beyond chocolate. I came here once before a little after 4pm and they were sold out of almost everything so today I came back in the morning. I got the blueberry lemon pull a part-insanely good. It was almost like a croissant bread pudding but you could still taste all the layers. It did have a hair in it that I had to pull out which was unappetizing, but I understand mistakes happen. I want to come back here and try just a plain croissant. They also have great coffee. The pull apart was 6.50$. Something to note is there is no seating. So pretty much a takeout only spot. The tarts here are pretty good, but they sell out so early. We arrived around 11 AM, and all the croissants were already gone. The remaining options were limited, and they had no plans to restock for the rest of the day even though they close at 6 PM. If you want their full selection, get there early. Close but no cigar. (This review is for the slabtown location on Northup.) Can't anyone in Portland make a decent ham & Gruyère croissant? First, this location may be so new that Google maps & Apple Maps show the location to be on the corner of Northrup & 21st, when in reality it is located on Northrup & 18th. The venue is very cool. It's in the lobby of an upscale apartment building and the ambiance is great. So is the staff. Friendly and helpful. Where things go wrong for me is that yet another place does not know how to make a traditional ham & Gruyère croissant. Ken's ham & cheese, while delicious, is too doughy. Paris Baguette has virtually no ham (see my other review), St. Honore Boulangerie slices theirs open like a sandwich, Jinju does ham, bacon, & cheese, Nuvrei adds mustard (sliced open)... Instead of taking a thin slice of ham, a peice of Gruyère, and rolling it up with the croissant dough, they take a big slab of ham (just lazy), and, for some weird reason, they add grain mustard. Yuk! Again, great venue, nice staff, not a great croissant. So sad. If you go, go for coffee, a cappuccino, and something else. Pass on the "ham & cheese." read more

This is the main bakery for all the locations, so the customer area is small and limited seating. However, the customer service and quality are top notch. Pastry price is a bit high with one $8.50 and the other $7.50. However, you won't be disappointed. The raspberry rose cruffin and chocolate croissant were excellent. I was afraid the cruffin would be floral, but you couldn't taste the rose. I was surprised by the custard and raspberry inside the cruffin. Soft and flaky was you would expect a cruffin. My sister and I stumbled on Twisted Croissant on a Friday afternoon while we were in the area getting massages at Zama Massage. I had a full stomach since we recently had lunch, so I wistfully walked away without buying anything. I couldn't stop thinking about the pastries at Twisted Croissant, and it tormented me. On the last day of my trip, I woke up early to beat the morning rush and arrived at Twisted Croissant when it opened at 8am. I got there a few minutes before opening time, and there were already a few people formulating a line out the door. The wait wasn't too bad though. I was served rather quickly as the parties ahead of me didn't hold up the line since they knew what they wanted to order. There were so many goodies to choose from, and there was no way I could narrow down my choices down to just one. Here was my haul: Pecan & Vanilla Tart - This was the dessert that branded its image in the back of my mind when we first stopped by Twisted Croissant. This was what I came back for. Sweetness of the tart was more subtle than prominent. The pecan crushed center was like a gooey butter. Wild Blueberry & Earl Grey Paris Brest - Paris Brest is one of my all-time favorite Parisian pastries, and it's so underrated. I'm bummed that bakeries and patisseries in the USA don't make more of these. When we stopped by Twisted Croissant the first time, this was completely sold out. I was told that the head baker may not make this next time, so I felt fortunate that it was available the second time around. It was exactly what I expected it to be. Great choux pastry, and the blueberry compote in the middle made it very unique. Didn't quite get the taste of earl grey. Maple, Mascarpone, & Pistachio (Seasonal) - Loved this donut. It had a soft brioche crumb, and the marscapone filling was excellent. I was a fan of the maple glaze and crushed pistachio. Raspberry Rose Cruffin - I ate the bottom half of the cruffin, the part that inserts into the cup. The texture of the croissant was buttery and flaky. Whole thing was covered in granulated sugar. Liked the custard filling. Sticky Toffee Basque Cheesecake - Sticky Toffee Pudding is one of my favorite desserts to eat and make. They really captured the essence of the date flavor. The cheesecake was super smooth. White Chocolate & Raspberry Torte w/ Rose & Lychee - I lived in Paris for some time, and this reminded me of a torte that I loved from one of the patisseries there. I got all the flavors in a bite - from the rose, lychee, white chocolate to the raspberry. The cremeux was delicate. read more

The inside is bright and the case of deserts at the front just pulls you in I opted for their cruffin and was delighted by the light fluffiness of it. When we went in there was a person before us and another person that came in after. We ordered the marionberry vanilla brioche donut, butter croissant, and chocolate croissant The marionberry brioche donut was filled with a delicious marionberry filling. The butter and chocolate croissant were so big and had so many layers. The chocolate one had a bit of chocolate filling in it. On the downside they were all out for display so it wasn't very fresh. I would assume heating it up in a toaster/oven for a bit before eating would make it taste way better. Overall this business seems to be doing very well and for a reason.
