You can really taste the quality in the buttery crusts . The key like pie especially deserves the hype! Loved this cute town where I stumbled across this bakery and I saw people lining up to get a piece of pie and coffee. Of course me being curious I must be missing out stood in line and im glad I did. I seen this shop on my way home and looked it up. The reviews were great so I stopped by Sunday afternoon. I'm not sure if it was due to it being the end of the weekend but I was not that impressed with the coffee or my pastry. I ordered a cappuccino, cinnamon bun, a slice of blackberry streusel pie, and the broccoli cheese quiche. I asked for extra cream or sweetener in the cappuccino but they forgot or didn't add it. The cinnamon oatmeal bun was really dry and a little overcooked. The blackberry streusel pie was great, the broccoli cheese quiche was just okay. The restaurant itself is cute and personable. The guy taking my order was nice. The coffee took a long time and it was not that busy. I am planning to give them another try in the morning to see if the other pastries are fresh. My brother and I ordered slices of the banana cream pie and the cranberry key lime pie. The banana cream pie was a bit disappointing. I didn't like the pie crust, which I usually find to be the best part of pies. It was too hard. The banana cream part was good though. The cranberry key lime pie was unique to us! They used fresh cranberry, which was good. I didn't think the key lime taste was overly sweet or tart. The graham cracker crust was better than the crust they used for the banana cream. My brother did find a metal cardholder thingie inside his slice of pie, which we returned and they were very apologetic. read more

Went to celebrate my birthday and we'd heard/read amazing reviews so had high expectations. It was a rainy day so the interior felt extra warm and welcoming. I appreciated that they use real plates and cups instead of disposable ones. The downsides: 1. the line was long, for something that's premade. All they're doing is warming up some slices? Service was pretty much non-existent. We waited so long I thought they forgot our order. 2. The pie was underwhelming, we even got a second slice (waited in line AGAIN) to give them the benefit of the doubt. Slices are TINY for the price, and the crust was meh. The upsides: 1. There's a coffee refill station that's self serve, but they were so busy that no one refilled it once while we visited. 2. The interior is cute and cozy. I can see it being a nice date spot. Okay went back and had some pie and cinnamon rolls. I love the cinnamon rolls and have a hard time not going every weekend to get one. Husband has loved every piece of pie he has tried. Such a nice pie shop. So many pies to choose from!!! My friends and I got 3 to split. In order from my most favorite is the lemon bar, banana cream pie, and apple pie. I'm not a huge fan of pies, but their strawberry short was probably one of the best pies I ever ate. It wasn't overly sweet, the strawberries were perfectly ripe with the right amount of custard, and the crust was oh so flaky. I'm so sad that I'm flying back home tomorrow afternoon and Lauretta's is closed on Tuesdays so I can't go back for one more slice of pie. I was also bummed that they were sold out of biscuits. Best bakery pie I've had in a while. Went here on a whim not realizing how popular it is, but absolutely worth waiting in line for. The French silk pie is heavenly, with a fluffy chocolate mousse in a crunchy, crumbly chocolate cookie crust. The fruit pies had a good balance of tartness from the fruit and sugar, and the pie crust is beautifully laminated, resulting in delicious flakiness. I would probably opt for a sweeter fruit such as the marionberry, as the pluot pie was a little on the tart side for my group's liking. Despite the line there was adequate seating, with a small diner feel to the inside. There was also some outdoor seating. Overall excellent pies with great seasonal options. I ordered a tgiving Heirloom apple pie from Lauretta Jean's. Their coveted pies were on the top of my must try list and tgiving seemed like the most opportune time since I'm not usually one to polish off a pie solo. Picked it up the morning of tgiving. It's served in a glass pie dish with the option to return the dish for I believe $5 back. I like the glass dish idea, however, I'd be hard pressed to drive back there for $5 and would rather have paid less for the pie, however I'll celebrate their sustainability by not using disposable aluminum pies. The pie itself was exceedingly pricey, but I shopped around and that seemed on par with pies purchased from dedicated bakers, rather than the Safeway special. The pie filling itself had a delicious apple flavor with nice warming spices, but the bottom was soggy. Boo! The dreaded soggy bottom. I mean it makes sense. That's a very wet filling, but the pie crust itself was rolled out very thin at the bottom and was really thick around the edges, which made for a super soggy bottom and raw dough around the edges. They've got alot going for them in terms of flavors, but that dough made the pie feel less than stellar and made it hard to justify the cost. Soo kind of disappointing, but feel like I should give it another go with a non fruit based pie. read more

Strolling around the Hawthorne area of Portland, we decided to give Lauretta Jean's a try. It was good timing because we were looking for a nice sweet treat before heading back to our Airbnb and we stumbled upon this place. We first read the menu on the wall before looking what they had left in stock and we were pretty interested in a slice of pie with a scoop of ice cream. With only a limited amount of pie options available at the time we walked in, we were down to pick one of the two flavors available and we opted for the Chocolate Chess and wanted a scoop of ice cream with it. The pie was a good amount of flavor without it being overwhelmingly intense with chocolate and very soft&smooth. The vanilla ice cream really balanced out the chocolate as well and was just an overall delicious pair! My group also ordered a few cookies which were closely delicious but we agreed we liked the pie very much more! I hope next time that I ever visit I'll get to try other pie flavors as well! read more

The cowgirl cookie had oats, cornflakes and blueberries, which intrigued me. I like honeycomb, so I had to try the chocolate honeycomb pie, which I found overly sweet. Hubby was happy with the triple chocolate cake, which was dense and a solid choice. After a couple of months, we went back a 2nd time and tried a couple of fruit pies and got chocolate ganache brownie. This place is pretty well known in the Vancouver-portland area. I've had it bookmarked for almost three years. Lol I finally hit it up and I went a little crazy buying all sorts of goodies so that the fam, friends and I could try everything. Next time when we go, we will know our favorites. Next time I definitely want to try a couple cake options but when we went there was only one cake option towards the end of the day. Top picks:lemon bars, chocolate chip cookie, french silken pie and key lime pie. Mixed reviews- 1/3 of the fam liked the honey salt. The rest did not care for it. Kind of a weird texture similar to pumpkin pie with honey notes. If you love pumpkin pie, you'll probably love it as well. I don't have a big sweet tooth so I put my ganache brownie in the freezer to eat it later. I'll be honest, I feel like the key lime was great but not enough tart lime for me. The cream is delicious but ratio is off. I feel like it should at least be 1:1 on tart half and whipped half. The graham cracker crust was delicious but also thicccc. Almost too thick. French silken pie. Super rich and velvety. Choc chips in the chocolate Oreo type crust. I would order it again. I wish I had gotten a slice of cake. The butter cream from other yelp's pix look amazing. Next time I'll have to get it. Overall we went nuts and spent $75 on lots of different slices and such. Line went by relatively quickly and we ordered at the counter, got a number, and took one of the outdoor seats. The interior is pretty small, gave off cozy vibes. And it smelled so. good. We ordered a slice of the coconut cream pie and the raspberry rhubarb pie. Raspberry rhubarb was on the tart side, but I enjoyed it. Adding some whip cream on top definitely helped balance out the sourness. The crust is the best part, I've never had such a thick flaky pie crust. The coconut cream pie was also super yummy. So finally made it to Lauretta Jean's after hearing about it for months. Waited in line trying to figure out what to order. I had originally planned on just buying a whole pie but decided to order 7 slices so we could try a few flavors. Hoping to find a favorite. Once I got to the counter it was rush rush rush, no menu, no list, nothing. Trying to look around and see all the signs when it's so crowded was really difficult. When I asked for a list I received a glare and major attitude like how dare I not be ready and want to see a menu. Then since no menu I tried to ask for recommendations ya that wasn't flying either. So be ready and know what you want because the staff has zero patience and is rude. Then let's get to the pie......I ordered 3 slices of strawberry rhubarb (family fav), 1 coconut cream, 1 strawberry short, 1 lemon meringue and 1 apricot Sour cream. The pieces were boxed with paper on each side of the slices as a barrier. Well the paper absorbs all the juice(moisture) and become a big sloppy mess. Finally decided to try the pie. Absolutely the worst pie I've ever eaten. My whole family thought it was horrible. Honestly inedible. The crust wasn't flakey, had no flavor and had the consistency of a day old croissant that sat on the counter overnight. dried out and chewy. The filling was blah, again no flavor. I hate to be critical of a local business but for the price of a whole pie and individual slices I really expected pie perfection.
