Really clean and aesthetically pleasing business! Parking is tricky; aim for a side street or behind the Regions bank. There isn't any in front of the store and nearby shops have posted signs about using their spaces. There is nice seating inside, but when we were there (10am on a Saturday morning) every spot was taken and the line was to the bathrooms. The employees were incredibly pleasant and cheery though and moved quickly. Now to the best part, the donuts themselves. I tried three: cardamom sugar, brown butter, and salted caramel. Cardamom was a really unique flavor and I could've easily eaten the whole thing without feeling like it was too sweet or I'd over-indulged. The other two were very rich, so I could eat a few bites. Salted caramel tasted straight out of Sweet Pete's candy store (a plus in my book). Brown butter was actually very similar taste wise, although a little more subdued. I preferred it to the salted caramel. I will definitely be back to sample their other flavors and hopefully grab a chair! read more

I've tried not to write this review. You can see by the date that I've put it off for about a year and a half since Good Dough opened and since I first tried them. I have friends who claim to love Good Dough, and even know someone who worked there, and I didn't want to upset any of them. But I can't take it anymore! Every single time I see Good Dough voted "Best Donut in Jax" it grates on my donut-loving nerves, and when I hear people talk about going here I want to yell, "Stop, in the name of all that is good and holey!" (Ahem.) I've eaten a lot of donuts in my 30+ years, both all over the USA and all over the world. My friends call me the donut queen. As the donut queen, I hereby declare: Good Dough is not good doughnuts. To vote for GD as best in Jax when The Donut Shoppe and Cinotti's and America's Donuts and even Mini Bar exist is ridiculous. In fact, I'd go so far as to call GD some of the *worst* donuts in Jax. After giving GD a second chance I was shocked to realize I'd rather eat Dunkin Donuts than give GD a third chance. There *are* some good things about Good Dough: first, their donuts look great. They have the best presentation of any donut in Jacksonville for sure. The people who work there are nice. The location is good and the ambience is cool. The names of the donuts are fun too. But the actual doughnuts? The entire reason you go to a donut shop? They're a mouthful of disappointment. A mouthful of *expensive* disappointment, actually, as they are $3/donut or $32/dozen. Contrasted to, for example, The Donut Shoppe - where one donut is $1.39 and a dozen is less than $9. I've tried two flavors each of Good Dough's raised and cake donuts. All four were essentially flavorless and much too dense; the raised had the texture of chewy bread. The lack of flavor astounds me. How is it even possible to make a flavorless donut? After first trying it I described the raised to a friend as "regular bread with frosting". That's not a donut, and it's definitely not a GOOD donut. Someone recently brought a dozen GD to my husband's office to share. He was very excited because they looked delicious and he hadn't heard of them. (See? I kept quiet about my disdain for a long time.) He messaged me asking, "Have you heard of Good Dough?" I hesitated, lest they be a new client or something, and just replied, "Yes..." He said, "Have you tried them? Someone brought some in to the office. They're terrible! There's no flavor and the texture is all wrong. I didn't even finish the one I took." That opened the floodgates and I ranted like I have in this review. He shares my confusion about why they are so popular. You know when everyone is raving about something and you try it and you just don't get it? You can't understand what people see in it, but you keep trying to because surely all these people must know something you don't, right? That's Good Dough for me. I can't decide if people have just never had a good doughnut before, or if maybe they live close to GD so they give it a lot of leeway because at least it's local? But honestly it kind of seems like The Emperor's New Doughnuts: everyone is just pretending to like it because everyone else does. No one wants to admit there's actually nothing there. read more

First off, these donuts are BEAUTIFUL! A feast for the eyes before you take in their fantastic flavor. So many unusual tastes (cardamom, chinese 5 spice!) in both yeast and traditional donut types. Searched for best donuts in Jax while in the area for FL/GA this weekend and Good Dough came up. I was pleasantly surprised they had a full selection of donuts when I arrived on a Sunday afternoon. After looking at all the tasty options and getting some advice from the nice worker I was able to narrow it down to 5 donuts: Poached Wine Fig with whipped honey goat cheese (top left), Butterscotch bacon (top middle), Salted caramel custard with honeycomb (far right), salted caramel (bottom left), and brown butter (bottom middle). Price of the donuts ranged from $2.75-3.25. All the donuts I selected were "raised" being that I'm more of a yeast donut fan, but they offer a few old fashioned or cake donuts if that's your preference. Back to the actual taste - delicious! All the donuts were soft, light, and not overly sweet. My favorite out of the batch was the Fig donut but all of the flavors were great! This bakery is a bright, clean space with a lot of interesting variety in doughnut flavors-- so far I've tried the matcha, which was delicious. It's nice to be able to look at the process through the window into the kitchen as well, although the doughnuts did seem to be disappearing faster than they could keep up. All the same, taking the extra time certainly pays off when it comes to taste and quality. My only objection is the sparse parking: I managed to grab the last spot in the back lot, which was totally full on a Monday morning. Got to attend the Order the Yelp Event tonight. The owners, Logan and Brittany are fantastic and fun to talk with. The doughnuts, which we got to decorate ourselves were great! Plus it was a lot of fun. They have great coffee from Vagabonds. Got to try something new tonight, the Fried Chicken Doughwich. Basically a doughnut sliced in half and a small fried chicken breast placed in between the slices with a little bit of glaze drizzled on top. The fried chicken was spicy which went well with the doughnut and the sweetness of the glaze. They've only been open for about a month and the owners stated that they would be introducing new flavors of doughnuts every month while keeping the best sellers all the time. They have savory donuts as well, and my favorites have been the Everything donut and their grilled cheese dough-wich with House made tomato soup! So, I walked into Good Dough on a Wednesday (after unfortunately struggling to find parking) and it was packed! I thought there couldn't be a better sign. Originally, I planned to get two doughnuts. After waiting in line, I found myself checking out with five different flavors. I couldn't resist. On aesthetics, Good Dough gets so many thumbs up. There store is modern and chic and airy. Their doughnuts, beautifully glazed and decorated and then arranged in tempting, sugary rows. It's almost -- in my opinion -- to walk away with only one. The doughnuts are probably pricier than what one would expect: at least over $2, but sometimes around $3.50 each. Trust me, it's worth it. I sampled the brown sugar doughnut -- and it was amazing. As was the mimosa, a creation of orange juice and champagne. The Nutella, which I gave my friend, was a perfect treat for fans of the hazelnut spread. The lemon poppy was divine, but fans of lemon poppy bread should expect the doughnut to be much sweeter than its close relative. The only doughnut I didn't like: the lavender and honey. While I preferred the old fashioned doughnut, which came with the lavender and honey top, I felt like I was eating bath and body works lotion. It was beautiful crafted and topped with some petals of lavender, but that didn't make up for the aftertaste. Finally, the service was top-notice. I ordered a chai latte to go -- and while I waited, the staff exchanged pleasantries and jokes. They whisked through the line in no time, and I was out the door with my doughnuts and chai in no time at all. For the coffee and five doughnuts: about $20. For my coworkers' expression of thanks: priceless. And that's just glazing the surface! I'll be back to this new San Marco establishment, for sure. read more

Well lit with sunlight that lifts the mood. Surgary, fun, colorful and unique assortment. Decent coffee. An old coworker last day came into work with filled brown paper boxes. She knew how to leave a lasting impression. That morning, we had Good Dough Donuts. They were each customized and individually crafted by the baker's hands. One bite and you are hooked. No other donut could compare. I could even drive by the "hot" sign to get to this "Good Dough". That day I chose a maple bacon donut to devour. The night before National Doughnut day, my close coworker and I had an epiphany @ the same time Good Dough. Wait time for sandwiches and coffee was a bit longer than expected and they forgot to make one of the sandwiches.
