Ok, I have to be honest and say I went here thinking I would have given a worse review bc I don't like the long wait, limited menu (only salads, bruschetta, and sandwiches), and high prices ($45 for a sandwich, side salad, and slice of cake?!), but this place TOTALLY lives up to the hype!!! Fortunately, you can avoid some of the wait if you get your food to-go. They have reserved parking spots right next to the entrance and a whole separate area to order to-go food. I came on a Thurs at 1130am and was able to order/leave in 15-20 minutes. What made me fall in love with this place was, believe it or not, the Caesar salad dressing!!! It had so much flavor and was so addicting I ate the salad in 5 minutes. Went for lunch for the first time ever, and as usual there was a slight wait to order. Tried the turkey goat cheese sandwich and the chicken panini (no prosciutto). Both sandwiches were great but just extremely heavy - I definitely was in need of a serious nap after lunch. Had a side of truffle fries, but couldn't get through more than a few. The ambiance inside is somewhat tight and thankfully we were sat at our own table. The servers essentially drop the food off and that's it, so it's interesting as usual that they ask for a tip like we are at a restaurant with a real waiter/waitress. I've only heard good things about The French Pantry, so of course I had to come try it out! We came on a Saturday around 11am and the line honestly wasn't too bad. We did have to wait a little to order for a table to free up, but that's only because we wanted to sit inside. The workers are super friendly and there are so many menu options. I did expect some more drink options/specialized drinks, but it seems like they focus more on food and desserts. Portions are pretty big and I love love love the complimentary bread and olive oil. We fortunately tried The French Pantry recently and came away knowing we had found one of THE premier sandwich shops/bakeries in the Jacksonville area. We arrived early and found that very quickly there was a line that was extending out the door. That was for good reason. This place is excellent. Great staff, impeccable food, fantastic service. Inside is clean, neat with hearty tables. The front features their baked goods as well. All fresh, all look delicious. I tried the Tiramisu for dessert. No pictures. It was that good that it made me forget. We dined in, and to do so, you order at the front, are seated and are served shortly after. When you order, keep in mind that they bring bread to the table. Two types of bread with a delicious mix of oil and balsamic that is ideal for dipping. Shortly after we received our food. We split the sandwiches between us and one order of truffle fries. The muffuletta was so meaty and flavorful. The bread fresh and the perfect accompaniment. The eggplant likewise was so delicious. I was expecting more of historical panini type bread but this bread was perfect and grilled. The truffle fries...crispy, bursting with flavor. Really generous portions here of next level sandwiches. Another Jacksonville staple! I have some friends that grew up here and have moved out of state and insist that we visit French Pantry whenever they come into town, specifically to eat the bruschetta and wedding cake. Their wedding cake is HEAVENLY - it's a must-try 1000%. Their staff is efficient and accommodating, even when the line is out the door and into the parking lot (which happens often!) All of the food was of course, very flavorful, with most everyone raving about it. I would caution that the chicken panini didn't travel well, with condiments having soaked through the toasted bread and made it difficult to hold when picking up to eat. I visited during lunch on a weekday and was surprised to see how busy it was with a line out the door. Got excited as if there's a line, it must be good. We waited about 10-15 minutes before ordering, but the cashier was very nice. I wasn't sure we would find a table, but they place you at a table rather than you finding one yourself, which is nice. I ordered the Kobe Burger, which was $17.50, and it was wild to me. I also ordered a quiche to-go. I can't remember the price, but my total was definitely over $30. I unfortunately did not like the burger. I love a good specialty burger, but this one tasted very strange. The fries were really good, though. I believe I upgraded my fries to truffle fries. Having seen the weekend crowds, we planned an earlier visit on a Saturday. Happily surprised by the lack of a crowd at 10:30am. Still had one in line ahead of us, a few tables full, and a steady number of people coming in for an early meal and at the to-go counter. A few notes, tables are numbered and you are sent to a table after ordering based on your group size and tables available. There is a credit card fee, so cash is best. Most people order dessert at the same time as their meal, but we were able to do it after our meal since it was not yet too crowded. Food was phenomenal. We wanted to try so many things, but settled on two different sandwiches to split along with truffle fries. The muffuletta sandwich was piled high with meat and yummy, I only wished for more olive salad on the sandwich. The eggplant panini was flavorful easily my favorite of the two. Such a random spot for a "French" pantry - it looks like a warehouse pantry from the outside driving in and we almost missed it. The food is delicious though. Order at the counter as soon as you walk in. Their big menu doesn't have prices listed, but if you get to the counter they have small menus with the prices listed. Once you put your order in, they will tell you where to sit, and set your table with the dinks ordered. They will also bring out the food. So service is half service. We opted to leave a cash tip after the meal rather than pay for it when we ordered the food. Breads We ordered a bunch of food and shared, and I must say everything was good. They do give you a basket of bread as starters, and I wasn't wowed. But their bruschetta came on French baguettes that were delicious. The sandwiches came on breads that weren't anything special, and the hot pastrami had a nice looking slice. As for the food, the hot pastrami was really quite delicious. Bruschetta were like a salad in the middle with salsa on top, with 4 pieces of baguettes topped with ordered toppings. I really liked the boom boom shrimp, but not overly excited with the prusciuto and artichokes. Carrot cake was on pint, while the chocolate croissant was so-so. Overall goodness good, but we felt a bit overpriced. Nice they still serve the good bread with spiced oil. Bought some cookies and a croissant to take home. I got a $17 turkey/ Gouda sandwich and there was very little turkey and the bread was too big for it. Jam on it made it good. Served with fries and glad because my husband's French dip was just the sandwich for $15... they need to really clean the chairs... the spaces were packed with crumbs and dried food/ gross. Food looked great, but the front desk experience was disappointing enough that I would not return. Paying $10 for a slice of cake already felt excessive, especially considering the service. What bothered me most was the customer service. The employee was helping my son and me, and our cake was already bagged and ready to go. All we needed to do was pay. Instead of finishing the transaction, she turned her back to us to help a new customer who had just walked into the pickup area. It was our first visit, and I had asked a few questions about the menu items, which seemed to annoy her even though no one else was waiting when we walked up. I mentioned it was our first time. Basic customer service should be finishing with the customer you are already helping before moving on to someone else, especially when the transaction is seconds from complete. The location is also in an industrial area with not much around it, so unfortunately the overall experience just was not worth coming back for. read more

I finally had my first experience dining in The French Pantry after having take-out a few times from a friend. Oh my. Eating it there fresh was even better. We went during Thanksgiving week, so lines weren't an issue which was a nice surprise, but I'd have happily waited. We all ordered a sandwich and a dessert and all took some home. The warm bread and oil plus dessert would have been enough to make me happy, but my Parisian French dip was very good too. My Reuben came out steaming hot on marbled rye toast with thousand island, Swiss, and sauerkraut ($16.00). It was one of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had! The 1/2 Caesar salad was crisp, fresh, and the freshly grated cheese made it amazing ($6.50). For a later snack I ordered their Blueberry Farmers Tart. So here's the deal, the lunch menu is very good, but if nothing else, you need to try their pastries! On the "Wow Scale" of deliciousness, my Blueberry Farmers Tart was a 9.9 out of 10 (and I never give out 10's)! It hit the pocketbook for $8.50 - but worth it. I knew I'd encounter some dissonance in writing up this review for The French Pantry. I had seen the name before on searches and had it filed away in my head to eat here at some point. That has occurred. Before I go into this, this is a very different experience from another French (sounding) place - Le Petit Paris. Let's face it ... all of these places straddle New American and French food. The French part is more of an affect. While Le Petit Paris sits in a manicured newer strip mall with nearby retention ponds with "fountains," The French Pantry is located in a mixed-use industrial area. It's almost like an appendage to a warehouse that has some diagonal parking out front. Being midweek, I did not get treated to a line. I could definitely see that on weekends and holidays. You go up to the counter to order and then pay. The food will be brought to your table. The difficult part is deciding what you'll have with a queue there. It has a tight window of lunch hours and it appears to be popular with locals and area employees. The menu features many paninis and sandwiches, which are generously sized, and there are desserts you can see in the case. They might run out of some things because almost everything is made that day. They had just run out of a turkey lunch special that interested me. The French-dip like sandwich I had was very good. However, with its shredded beef and the shape of the bread, it was a little challenging to dip it. So, some of it was dipped and some of it was eaten with a fork from the plate. There were many "attractive" desserts, but I settled on their very popular wedding cake which features strawberries. It was a large slice and it was delicious. You can't do that too often. Upon leaving, you will feel full. The French Pantry's interior looks like a general purpose dining room. If crowded, you might be sharing different ends of a long table. With its French branding and cafe' aspect, it's just a little bit higher than average in terms of pricing for a lunch locale. The employees are very welcoming. I do recommend The French Pantry. You might have to visit it a few times to narrow down what you like and find your groove here. read more

5 stars - Best birthday tradition ever! For more than 10 years, my official birthday cake is the French Pantry's "Wedding Cake", and it never disappoints. It's this wonderfully most flavorful yellow cake with fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce between the layers, topped with the perfect cream cheese frosting and white chocolate shavings. We get extra strawberry sauce on the side. Looks gorgeous, tastes even better--from the first pretty slice to the very last bite. Seriously, you have to try it to understand how amazing it is. First time visit and it won't be our last. Wonderful food. Had the Special which was a great turkey sandwich that came with fries. Delicious. The dessert were outstanding. Can't wait until we come again . Highly recommend.
