Caveat: We are still working on my front yard landscaping project but I am confident that I can trust Solomon to come through for me. So how can I rate Solomon's company before completion? Because he has promised me 100% satisfaction guaranteed and is fulfilling that promise as he continues to return to my job based on my concerns. Here is the scoop: Solomon thought of and installed a truly unique design that used minimal artificial grass narrowly spaced between irregular pavers to match our current driveway and sidewalk. This was such a great way to bring green yet look NATURAL. A master gardener friend of mine just asked me today, "is that real grass?" because it looked so natural. A++ Solomon! AND his crew is so nice and focused. They adjusted everything to be just right which was really tough with needing to cut the grass turf to fit the irregular pavers! On the other side of the sidewalk, Solomon also created a lovely design. We did not want a bunch of artificial grass. We wanted a drought tolerant landscape with drips to the plantings. He suggested a rock "river" and after assuring me it would not look like a Japanese manicured stream and would not be too long and overbearing, I agreed. I really love it. Photos to follow after I take them. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, we did have a few communication lags around the project timing. But whereas my husband was worried about the timing, I did not mind so much as I really trusted (AND TRUST) Solomon's word even if I needed to remind him a few times just to let me know when more progress was expected. One issue we have run into is the invasion of Bermuda grass in the new planting area. They probably should have solarized the soil before planting so ask about this if dealing with soil that is possibly contaminated with aggressive weeds. Bermuda Grass is almost impossible to eradicate. That said, Solomon is partnering me on a solution. He has already sent his team out twice to pull and spray at my request. We are about to get even more aggressive in finding a longer lasting solution so he doesn't have to keep sending his crew out every month. Anyone who knows Bermuda Grass gets it, right? ugh! I will keep you posted and update this review as Solomon and I work together over the next 2 months. (if you have a Bermuda Grass problem, the best time to eradicate it is in the summer. The before & after pictures pretty much speak for themselves. Our yard was 50% dirt and 50% concrete to start, but after Good Earth Landscape we have the desert oasis we were hoping for! We were recommended GE from our yard designer Yardzen and we were very grateful to be considered customers since so many companies won't even provide an estimate for our townhome's backyard size. I wanted to be fairly hands off and to stick as close to Yardzen's design/material list as possible, and what GE provided is essentially Yardzen's drawings come to life. The only reason for dropping a star was that communication could have been better. Our work was scheduled to take a month to complete (end date was originally April 9th), however, it completed 21 days late on April 30th. As someone who works in the manufacturing business, I understand the ups/downs of schedule, but I've never had a customer be okay with a late delivery of a product so needless to say we were no different in that being a negative for us. Some other minor things that could've been improved were better communication on when Solomon would like to meet to have quick chats about samples for the yard, etc. My husband and I both work full time so I would've preferred a little heads up in a set time or even a window of time for when he wanted to talk. I could've blocked out my work calendar to make sure I was available. That and more communication through text (or even better email) for paper trails and the ability to read the communications while I'm running meetings since I didn't have the ability to answer his calls in the moment would've reduced my stress in worrying whether I'd be able to be free when he needed a word. There was also an instance where a key detail was changed from the original design to something that Solomon preferred more (rock ground covering instead of mulch) that I didn't appreciate being told I was remembering incorrectly. Ultimately I realize Solomon is coming from a place of trying to make it look the best he believes it can be, but having to prove the original design called for mulch and stand my ground was disappointing. I'm glad I did because the mulch ended up giving us the vibe we wanted in a way the rocks wouldn't have. I think if Solomon had presented the rocks as an alternative to the mulch instead of trying to convince me that was what was listed on the material list the whole time, that could've been a more positive, productive conversation. A few bumps to be sure, as all projects have, but the yard is 20x superior to what we had before. We've also toured many townhomes in our neighborhood and we know for a fact ours is easily one of the top backyards in the complex. We can't wait to look out our windows and no longer see an eyesore, but our beautiful modern yard. read more

We have just completed a three months overhaul of our backyard with Solomon and his crew. The project included demolition, drainage, irrigation, retaining wall, travertine patio, vegetable boxes, two lawn areas, trees, plants, pathways, and lighting. As a homeowner that has redone a few yards in my time and worked with many contractors, I have to say my experience with Solomon was first rate. The creativity he brought to the table along with the professionalism and competitive pricing (along with solid yelp reviews) made it easy to choose him. He worked with us to find a solution for our back yard that fit within our budget and we couldn't be happier with the results. While he definitely has stylistic leanings that he favors, he listened to what we liked and didn't like and his choices were always spot on. After finishing a remodel of our house, my wife and I were looking for someone to help us make the front and back yards look as good as the rest of the house. We had hired a landscape designer to think through various options we had such as how to deal with the new side patio with the 18" drop off the side, or how best to maximize the backyard lawn area given the large hill back there. She had proposed various walls, planting beds, and lawn areas to meet our needs. We then set out to find a landscaper to implement the plan. We got three bids for the job. Suliman from Good Earth came in as the middle bid. Our concern about the low bid was that the quality of the work might not be there. Suliman described all of the phases of the job, from installing the drainage and retaining walls, to regrading the lawn areas, building the new front porch and patio seating, installing sprinklers and drip systems, building the front fence, and then the final grass sod and mulch. He proposed changing several aspects of the original design which we ultimately agreed to and now are happy that we did. I would prefer to have had a personal recommendation for the landscaper, but absent that, I took the positive review from Dietrich here on Yelp and our experience discussing the job with Suliman as enough evidence that Good Earth was our best option. The price was not low, but I was reasonably confident that he would do a good job for us. I was somewhat mistaken on that front. He did not do just a good job for us. Instead he consistently went beyond our expectations to make sure that things turned out just the way we wanted. He would address any concern we had quickly. When we asked for changes he would generally accommodate them for no extra cost. (This is in contrast to our home remodel where even the smallest change would result in a change order for significant extra cost.) His crew showed up consistently and did high quality work. The final result is impressive. We now feel like our remodel is really done. Please take a look at the attached photos to get an idea for some of the work that Good Earth did. My daughter was getting married in October and I wanted to spruce up my yard for a big BBQ reception for 50+ guests.... Well, Solomon came to the rescue as usual!!! I told Solomon my general thoughts and he got into his usual arm waving, creative and passionate mood and came up with a game plan that was perfect. He suggested that we prune back all our bushes and trees to lighten up the perimeter, cultivate the soil and plant new perennial and annual flowers and plants and cover all dirt with bark to add color, aerate and fertilize the grass, renew the lighting and sprinkler systems, and finally, add a sealer over our flagstone patio and paver driveway to make it sparkle. His men (mostly the same team that did our original work 10 years back) got all the work done in about 3 weeks, and just in time for the wedding. They were friendly and professional as they always have been in the past. The end result was exceptional just as Solomon promised... the color of the new flowers and shrubs against the fresh bark was beautiful, and the newly sealed flagstone and driveway looks great and is now easier to clean. It can be very difficult even to get someone to quote a smallish construction job in the bay area, but Solomon from good earth came right out and gave me a detailed quotation. The work took much longer than I had expected but it Turned out beautifully. Solomon's crew was very friendly And obliging. I had an old patio ripped out and a new paver patio built. I had several old crushed granite paths replaced, and lots of trimming and yard cleanup. They replaced a rotted gate, even patching the stucco around the repair to match the wall. Solomon insisted on adding landscape lighting, which I was skeptical of, but now I love it. Probably the biggest part of the job involved removing a very large overgrown tree with an enormous root ball. If there is a 6 star option, I would give that to Solomon and his team. They are fantastic!!! Both my front and back yard were covered with dirt and weeds. There was no sprinkler system, and the concrete patio in front of my dinning room was cracked. I tried to hire some one from craiglist and he left me a big mess. I had Solomon come and gave us an estimate. I wanted to have child friendly yard so my 10 month baby can enjoy it on daily base. He listened to all my priorities and gave a fresh and amazing design based on our needs. Because we had a tight budget, Solomon accommodated his beautiful design to a level we can afford, and he left space for future improvements. For example, he put dripping systems all over the yard and put different flags where mark different plans we can plant later on. Our highest priority was the drainage, and he leveled the whole yard so the water can flow away from the house and into the catch basins. The whole drainage system were so sophisticate and all the small details were paid attention. For example, he put river rocks around the drain to make them look like peacocks. There are drainage all around the house and the patio. Originally our budget only allowed us to have a patio partially with interlock paver and partially with concrete. Solomon gave me a surprise at the end by building the whole thing with paver. I saw his team measured every stone, at every angle and they made sure every single piece is at the right place. They are like artists. The patio looks gorgeous!! He finished the job one week before the agreement. I can't be happier. It is going to be the best gift for my daughter's first birthday coming on Nov. My whole family was 100% pleased at this project. I am already spreading my words to my neighbors. Solomon redid our front yard + driveway. He installed the following: -retaining wall to level our front lawn -paver driveway and walkway -irrigation system -stone facade and stucco on entrance and chimney -expanded and installed slate tiles on porch The creativity he brought to the table was great. Most other contractors did not offer ideas w/o first paying $1000+ for a design. Timeline-wise we were not impressed, he said the project would take 6 weeks to finish, but it took well over 11 weeks. He did not communicate realistic expectations regarding scheduled milestones, this was frustrating after sometime. Although when we expressed concern about the schedule he did try to accommodate. He provided a flat rate quote per major item and didn't nickel and dime us. For example, our slate tiles porch was a little larger than expected but he didn't charge us more. read more

My girlfriend and I had just moved into a new place with a front yard that was full of dead grass/plants; very ugly looking. None of the irrigation valves worked either, so trying to revive it was hopeless. I decided to call Good Earth to get an estimate and we eventually settled on a reasonable price. A couple days later Solomon and his crew came out to work on the yard and talk to me about the new irrigation system. I have to say, not only was this guy very knowledgeable, but his crew worked fast as well. They managed to rip out the grass and put fresh sod in before the day was over. The irrigation took a bit longer because they had to dig out trenches, but that was complete quite fast as well. My girlfriend was really pleased when she came home to see the yard looking lush again! If only our water bill wasn't so damn high now! Oh well. I have a unique setting with the yard bordered by the bay. The ground was full of holes and the weeds were overgrown. The wind is constant and made it an uncomfortable space. Hopefully you'll see some pictures (I'll send them to Solomon) but now I have a nice clean paver patio with a glass fence that protects from the wind and still allows the view. They built a beautiful deck that really connects the space to the bay. Its been a uyear now and the plants are growing in. Solomon and his crew did a fantastic job in our backyard. When we moved in several years ago, we had dirt - a blank slate. We now have a wonderful yard, complete with a BBQ island, stone patio, a unique overhang and a pond with waterfalls. As mentioned in the first review, most of the work was done by the same guys, who we got to know pretty well. Got to mention that Solomon did hire a plumber to lay the gas line out to the BBQ island. My wife and I had a basic idea of what we wanted the yard to look like and some of the plants we desired. Solomon, working off our ideas, offered suggestions that enhanced our ideas. He spent a considerable amount of time with us in designing the yard and implementing the design. I must say we got a lot for our money! He even went to Gilroy to get a special faucet for the bar sink in the BBQ island. Solomon made suggestions as to the type of plants to use. He is very good at matching plants with the yard design (color, size, what will grow in a particular area, etc.). He and his crew is very accommodating, rushing projects along when we let him know that a special event was coming up. We have since used Good Earth Landscaping to update the look and design of our front yard. We've added steps to front door that match our patio and the queen palms are wonderful! Pros: Creative concepts, friendly owner, versatile. Willing to make corrections. Cons: Took WAY too long, months and months over estimated completion date. Shoddy workmanship in multiple areas, only one person working at times, multiple mistakes needing correction, finally had to tell them to leave and paid in full. Owner asked for advances on payment twice and the electrical installation failed and learned after having that fixed (partially, due to more problems), it wasn't to code. We still have issues that need correcting in terms of aesthetics that will cost us thousands of dollars but couldn't stand having the work crew at our property any longer. He tried to nickel and dime us on used materials, plant choices, etc. Read the other reviews carefully and see if they didn't come from the same household/source. read more

Well after Good Earth Landscape did such a good job on our backyard, we decided to hire them to come out weekly and maintain our front and backyard. I thought since they are the ones who did all the landscaping in the back and part of the front they would do a good job. Their fee was quite a bit more then the previous person we had taking care of our yards, but figured it would be worth it. They were never proactive if any of the plants started to show a problem with bugs, my husband and to point it out. One of our hedges was dying, they didn't do anything about it, just let it die. Come to find out the sprinkler timer they put in was junk, we just replaced that. They had build a pool equipment room with an attached changing room that on the back side they installed a shower. The lever to turn the water on and off started leaking and they used hinges that were rusting, you would think if its going to be out in the elements they would use something that didn't rust. Well it took several calls to Solomon to get someone out there to fix it. All the guy did was put a new on and off valve. Well come to find out, it started leaking again and I hadn't realized it till my water bill had gone up $70 dollars two months in a row! I thought the first one was my husbands mistake since he filled the pool way too high, but after the 2nd month with a higher then average bill realized it was leaking worse then originally. We just had a plumber come out and told us they did a horrible job and used sub par parts. So $300 dollars later, the job has been done correctly! We canceled our services with Good Earth about 2 months ago due to other issues we were having. Most of the guys that came out couldn't really made decisions, so every time we had to call Solomon it would take at least 2 to 3 phone calls before he ever returned a call. My husband had asked for a face to face for several weeks, he wanted to discuss the issues we were having, we were not happy at all with the service we were receiving. He kept telling my husband he would stop by and never did, just kept blowing us off! So we decided to fire them, of course when my husband called to tell him that we no longer needed their services, he had the nerve to want to argue about it. Guess he should of been more concerned before. It really is a shame that in the beginning I had nothing but praises for the work they did, but over time realized some of the equipment they used is not the top of the line and they didn't really seem to care to give us the time of day. So would I recommend them any longer, in the short term, it seemed great, in the long term, not so much! read more

Suliman is a true artist. There are designers who will put everything on paper for you, and design the placement of every shrub to within an inch. If you want that, look elsewhere. If, instead, you are willing to sit back, relax, and let Suliman work his magic, you will be pleased with the result that grows organically before your eyes. (You will also find his enthusiasm charming and infectious.) Suliman designed and re-landscaped our front yard -- a big job, as it is a corner lot. Our goals were to reduce water usage and maintenance, and to build a small patio outside our kitchen. Constraints included working three existing, very large, mature trees into the design, creating something new that still fit the character of the half-century-old neighborhood, and working within the requirements of the county low-water landscape rebate program. During construction, Suliman was generally receptive to our questions and concerns. However, we felt like it took quite a bit of convincing to adjust his artistic vision to meet some of the city and county requirements, thus the 4-star review. Suliman's workers were courteous, skillful, and professional. They kept noise and clutter to a minimum, and the result is truly beautiful. I found him to be honest and eager to put his crew to work. I believe the estimate was very fair. The work quality was excellent. The crew really cared about details. I was looking for a someone to reduce the size of my lawn, remove old concrete and add a new section of concrete in a modern design, as well change my irrigation system. I called on a Monday afternoon and Solomon told me that his brother Jesse would phone me soon to set up a time to give a bid for me. Later that evening to my surprise Jesse did call me back! I liked that, given the amount of flakey contractors out there! We're off to a good start. Anyway, he came over the next day or so, and was very polite and friendly. We discuss price and I decided to hire him and his crew. They started right away, actually on the 4th of July, busting out concrete! It was like 90 degrees that day, and they work their asses off!! They returned the next day and continued the job as promised. Whenever I had a question I would phone Jesse on his cell phone, in which he ALWAYS answered. HOW NICE IS THATt?! Not only is he extremely patient and kind, his crew are also they same. They always cleaned up after themselves at the end of each work day. They appreciated the many plates of watermelon that I'd leave for them each day! The framing was set for the pour, but it was not exactly how I wanted it. I phoned Jesse on a Friday night , when I got home from work. He was so kind to drive over to my house at 7:00 at night to see what exactly it was that needed adjusting. Now that's customer service!! It was now perfectly framed, and gorgeous fresh concrete was poured into it. They added new irrigation, included generous valve lines, and stakes, etc. Overall, I was VERY pleased with the workmanship and great customer service! Which speaks volumes! I contacted Good Earth in regards to designing and constructing an environmentally friendly and climate appropriate landscape on the acre surrounding my home. We used Good Earth Landscaping for a front and back yard remodel. They did a great job, and we are very happy with the results.

Solomon and his crew completed our yard project a few weeks ago. It was a 2 month project, and they actually finished a week ahead of schedule, so that was nice. They did complete drainage and irrigation, plus installing a large paver patio, seat wall, new lawn, landscaping and lighting. We are very pleased with the results. Solomon and his crew were very nice to work with. The crew was very polite and respectful to me and my young daughters as we were home most of the time they were doing the project. I also appreciated that they left the jobsite clean when the project was finished. We made some minor changes, and added some additional items and Solomon did not charge extra, everything was included in our original price we had agreed upon. We did have a minor issue with the seat wall being installed crooked at first, but when we discussed it with Solomon, he had the crew knock the whole thing down and rebuild it correctly the very next day. Good Earth Landscaping has been maintaining our yard (over 1 acre) for more than 10 years. Soloman, the owner, has always been accessible and responded to any need we have had. We have found his fees very reasonable. Over the years Soloman has designed landscaping, including pavers, slate walkways, two decks, irritation systems, drainage systems and plantings. He pays attention to detail and cares about the work he and his staff provide. We live in the country and often times have problems with people arriving on time and being reliable. We have NEVER encountered a problem with anyone who provides the weekly maintenance for us. They arrive on time, provide the services expected and more. We have found that when we have an emergency (one especially wet winter a mud slide blocked our driveway), Soloman responds immediately. In this instance we found his staff shoveling mud within 30 minutes of our call! And this was on a Sunday! Another time we had a major limb break from our oak tree, breaking a fence and blocking another driveway. He had a crew with chain saws up quickly, stacked the wood, and repaired the fence. In summation, living in the country has major challenges when it comes to reliability of people providing services. Of the 3 companies that I had called so far, Good Earth Landscaping was the only one who returned my phone call. I called them on 8/27 and they setup an appointment for 9/04/14 at 2 pm. They didn't show and NO phone call to reschedule. Basic concept really, if you're to busy to handle any new projects... Say So!! If you tell someone you're going to come by and look at their project, have the decency to show up or CALL and reschedule. It's really that SIMPLE! read more
