This review is long overdue. Prior to my project I must have interviewed over ten different landscape design companies. Why did I ultimately decide to go with Good Earth Landscaping? It was Solomon's vision and passion that won me over. He knew exactly what I was looking for in my backyard patio pool design. The result was nothing but spectacular. His crew which had been with him from day one knocked it out of the park. Our backyard now feels like a high end resort. If you ever want transform your backyard give Solomon a call. You won't be disappointed.

The before & after pictures pretty much speak for themselves. Our yard was 50% dirt and 50% concrete to start, but after Good Earth Landscape we have the desert oasis we were hoping for! We were recommended GE from our yard designer Yardzen and we were very grateful to be considered customers since so many companies won't even provide an estimate for our townhome's backyard size. I wanted to be fairly hands off and to stick as close to Yardzen's design/material list as possible, and what GE provided is essentially Yardzen's drawings come to life. The only reason for dropping a star was that communication could have been better. Our work was scheduled to take a month to complete (end date was originally April 9th), however, it completed 21 days late on April 30th. As someone who works in the manufacturing business, I understand the ups/downs of schedule, but I've never had a customer be okay with a late delivery of a product so needless to say we were no different in that being a negative for us. Some other minor things that could've been improved were better communication on when Solomon would like to meet to have quick chats about samples for the yard, etc. My husband and I both work full time so I would've preferred a little heads up in a set time or even a window of time for when he wanted to talk. I could've blocked out my work calendar to make sure I was available. That and more communication through text (or even better email) for paper trails and the ability to read the communications while I'm running meetings since I didn't have the ability to answer his calls in the moment would've reduced my stress in worrying whether I'd be able to be free when he needed a word. There was also an instance where a key detail was changed from the original design to something that Solomon preferred more (rock ground covering instead of mulch) that I didn't appreciate being told I was remembering incorrectly. Ultimately I realize Solomon is coming from a place of trying to make it look the best he believes it can be, but having to prove the original design called for mulch and stand my ground was disappointing. I'm glad I did because the mulch ended up giving us the vibe we wanted in a way the rocks wouldn't have. I think if Solomon had presented the rocks as an alternative to the mulch instead of trying to convince me that was what was listed on the material list the whole time, that could've been a more positive, productive conversation. A few bumps to be sure, as all projects have, but the yard is 20x superior to what we had before. We've also toured many townhomes in our neighborhood and we know for a fact ours is easily one of the top backyards in the complex. We can't wait to look out our windows and no longer see an eyesore, but our beautiful modern yard.

We have just completed a three months overhaul of our backyard with Solomon and his crew. The project included demolition, drainage, irrigation, retaining wall, travertine patio, vegetable boxes, two lawn areas, trees, plants, pathways, and lighting. We are extremely happy with the outcome of this project. The way our backyard looks now has exceeded our expectations. Solomon promised that our backyard will look like a postcard and he fully delivered on that. One thing that stood out as soon as the work started is the work ethic of his crew. They always showed up to work on time and worked like they mean it. They seemed happy, highly-motivated and proud of their workmanship. Like in any project, new ideas and change requests popped up mid-way, and Solomon has been very accommodating, flexible and overall very reasonable to work with. Also, Alberto, was always on-site during work hours, and happily answered questions and reassured us on the details of the work. Finally, in the last few days we were so impressed with how the crew left the site clean and verified that all the elements of the project, specifically the irrigation was set up correctly.

As a homeowner that has redone a few yards in my time and worked with many contractors, I have to say my experience with Solomon was first rate. The creativity he brought to the table along with the professionalism and competitive pricing (along with solid yelp reviews) made it easy to choose him. He worked with us to find a solution for our back yard that fit within our budget and we couldn't be happier with the results. While he definitely has stylistic leanings that he favors, he listened to what we liked and didn't like and his choices were always spot on. We felt we could trust him completely and he proved us right every step of the way. His crew was always professional and respectful of our family and property which is very important to us. They always cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day. Their attention to detail was exceptional. I cannot recommend Solomon highly enough.

After finishing a remodel of our house, my wife and I were looking for someone to help us make the front and back yards look as good as the rest of the house. We had hired a landscape designer to think through various options we had such as how to deal with the new side patio with the 18" drop off the side, or how best to maximize the backyard lawn area given the large hill back there. She had proposed various walls, planting beds, and lawn areas to meet our needs. We then set out to find a landscaper to implement the plan. We got three bids for the job. Suliman from Good Earth came in as the middle bid. Our concern about the low bid was that the quality of the work might not be there. Suliman described all of the phases of the job, from installing the drainage and retaining walls, to regrading the lawn areas, building the new front porch and patio seating, installing sprinklers and drip systems, building the front fence, and then the final grass sod and mulch. He proposed changing several aspects of the original design which we ultimately agreed to and now are happy that we did. I would prefer to have had a personal recommendation for the landscaper, but absent that, I took the positive review from Dietrich here on Yelp and our experience discussing the job with Suliman as enough evidence that Good Earth was our best option. The price was not low, but I was reasonably confident that he would do a good job for us. I was somewhat mistaken on that front. He did not do just a good job for us. Instead he consistently went beyond our expectations to make sure that things turned out just the way we wanted. He would address any concern we had quickly. When we asked for changes he would generally accommodate them for no extra cost. (This is in contrast to our home remodel where even the smallest change would result in a change order for significant extra cost.) His crew showed up consistently and did high quality work. The final result is impressive. We now feel like our remodel is really done. Please take a look at the attached photos to get an idea for some of the work that Good Earth did. If you're looking for someone to do significant landscaping work, both in hardscaping, land grading, water/drainage, and plantings, I'd highly recommend you talk to Suliman and have him come give you his ideas for what he can do for you.

Another very happy customer of South Bay Design and Landscaping…read more We had South Bay out to do a full demolition of the existing "landscaping" from when we bought our house and the installation of an entirely new plan from our landscape designer (check out Dawn Engel- she's great!), which included a patio space, a pergola, driveway extensions, hogwire fence, raised planter beds, and a side gate added to our existing fence. These guys do not mess around. Demolition went insanely quickly, and our property was kept neat and tidy the entire time. We never once saw dirt tracked anywhere by the crew, which we can't say the same for any of the other contractors we've worked with (and we're actually quite happy with some of them!), and which becomes even more insane to think about when you consider the nature of landscaping work. Installation went as smoothly as South Bay possibly could have made it. Any time we ran into the occasional hiccup, as happens with all nontrivial projects, Matt, Danny, and Marcus offered thoughtful suggestions and made sure to confirm exactly what we wanted before proceeding. (We had either or both of Matt and Danny on-site most days of our project, and interacted with Marcus via email.) We were delayed a smidge by some heavy rain, but the crew worked through all but the worst of it (talking "if you step in that mud, you're going to lose a boot" type of rain). Partway through the install, we discovered that the previous landscapers had managed to make the L-shaped pathway leading from our driveway to our front door square with nothing- which wasn't easily noticed until we had the planter beds in and hogwire fence line chalked out. (South Bay had laid those out properly square to the driveway and house, as per our plan.) Matt, Danny, and crew were thankfully able to accommodate our request to fix our pathway up by picking up each segment and pushing the out-of-square part over by 4-6 inches; this added about a week of extra time to our project, mostly due to the fact that not all of the pavers could be reused, and that the pavers had actually been discontinued (!). The guys worked around this by sourcing very similar pavers in a different size, and basically cutting and grinding them to match our existing pavers. Post-install, the only way you'd know there are two different pavers in our pathway is if you'd seen it being taken apart and rebuilt. Plants, irrigation, and lighting all went in straightforwardly after the hardscaping work was finished, and Danny gave us a complete walkthrough of all our new outdoor systems. It's been about a week since our project was completed; the plants are all thriving, and we're still ecstatic about our new yards (and so are our neighbors!). In short: we had a fantastic experience working with South Bay Design and Landscaping for our landscaping project. They take pride in doing a quality job, and it shows in everything from demolition to day-to-day jobsite management to the finished project. If you're looking for landscapers, these are your guys. (Special thanks to Matt and Danny for graciously handling my incessant "are you sure you didn't forget about such-and-such little detail?" questions and never once forgetting about any of the details, and also to Sergio for spending basically an entire Saturday morning troubleshooting what ultimately turned out to be a manufacturing issue with our pergola.)
